now both were small. the one that hit just after 9:00 last night was a magnitude 3.5. it could be felt as -- through a large swath of the area from san fernando valley. no immediate reports of injury or damage from this tremor that was centered north of inglewood. another small earthquake was reported a few hours earlier. back to you. every day americans need a champion, and i want to be that champion. >> right now, hillary clinton is on a 1,000 mile road trip headed to first in the nation caucus state iowa to begin meeting with voters. by now we have seen her announcing her 2016 bid. in that clip she talks about helping american families quote get ahead and stay ahead. >> hillary clinton represents

"the washington post" reports florida senator marco rubio will formally announce his bid for the presidency this evening. he is speaking at miami freedom tower that back drops his cuban heritage. he has slammed president obama's foreign policy for years now. rubio's announcement comes days after the president held the first meeting in decades with the cuban president. the murder trial of a d.c. department of corrections official is set to begin today. carolyn cross was found dead inside of her alexandria apartment. this was back in september of 2014.

police say 29-year-old dewitt seen brutally murdered cross. he said he was hearing voices at the time of the murder. there will be grief counselors at howard university to help the community remember a former student who died. d.c. police found him unconscious around michigan avenue and franklin street. bowie high schoolers are mourning a classmate. he was coming back from a field trip with the rotc when he started feeling ill. he then stopped breathing. maryland state police are now working to find out just what happened. he was 16 years old. new information this morning about a "washington post" journalist being held in iran. an iranian news agency says he is accused of spying and acting against national security.

he sold economic and industrial information from iran to the u.s. he will stand trial before the revolutionary court which handles cases involving national security. "the washington post" calls the spying allegations absurd. and he has been held in tie ran for more than eight months. we are still working right now to learn why a maryland police chief is stepping down this morning. the delmarva daily times reports that the princess ann chief scott keller has decided to retire. princess ann county is where eight people died of carbon monoxide poisoning less than a week ago and keller has led the department for the past eight years. city officials are not commenting. in a few hours the d.c. mayor will face questions over her spending plans for the district. she's testifying at a budget oversight hearing. and bowser is calling for the sales tax and parking tax increases. her plan cuts higher education

watch yourself, watch yourself! >> heads up! >> take a look at that video. a man hole explodes sending the cover flying 100 feet into the air. you see it way above the buildings. it was caught on camera while a reporter was interviewing a man in buffalo, new york. an underground electrical fire started around noon yesterday. witnesses say smoke was pouring out of man holing causes three explosions. no one was hurt, but the cover -- police had evacuated by the time the cover was blown, wow. well a new report card about your experience up in the air comes out today. the 25th annual airline quality rating will be released. we already know some of those

numbers. and they say you're asking for improvement. customer complaints increased 22% last year. not a total surprise because airlines lost more bags last year. about one for every 275 passengers to be exact. the report also says fewer flights arrived on time last year than back in 2013. well this afternoon, spacex launching another rocket into space. it's headed for the international space station and it's carrying a whole lot of supplies. well we are going to be watching nasa's twitter feed to make sure the launch goes out without any problems. among the supplies an espresso machine. >> wow. an espresso machine. i guess they have their priorities, you know, they need that boost of energy. >> well, the italian astronaut says she's been up there since january and she's getting sick of the instant coffee. >> leave it to the italians to make a coffee demand. all right, we are talking attack forecast today and just hoping for more of the same. just a spectacular weekend.

her quadriplegic son in the park. her boyfriend then turned her in to police. parler's 21-year-old son was found lying in the leaves covered with a blanket, next to a wheelchair and a bible. >> and a lot of things could have happened out in. i mean, obviously he's in the wooded area. you have wild animals out there. you never know what's going to happen. he cannot defend himself. he does not function at all. >> the son was hospitalized with dehydration, malnutrition and cuts to his body. parler was hospitalized after being arrested to receive treatment for an unknown reason. she is facing several charges including kidnapping and assault. police are still looking for a man who opened fire on a group of people headed to party in wood bridge, virginia. it happened near dale boulevard. the party was advertised on social media and someone pulled up in the suv and opened fire

and hit one man and two teenagers. all three are expected to be okay. come and take a look at your screen right now, if you can. a maryland family now hoping you can help them find their teenage daughter. jennifer castillo was last seen saturday on university boulevard and new hampshire avenue. well that's where she was dropped off to catch a bus to the mall. castillo was wearing a black shirt and white sneakers. the owners of a fairfax county bakery have a lot more cleaning up to do from a car that crashed into their store. look at this scene here. six people were hurt. none seriously. fairfax county police released these pictures of the car. you can see it ended up completely inside the napoleon bakery in annandale. the store is closed right now, it's not clear yet when it will reopen. and this dramatic video from another crash in northern virginia. a firefighter is working to save a driver who was ejected in a

crash on the claire barton parkway. he may have discovered that the road was closed because of this. three cars crashed near the exit. in addition to the man who was ejected, two other people were hurt. they're all expected to survive. i have started a new career recently. this is a fifth generation company which means a lot to me. >> that's one of many speakers in the video launching hillary clinton's campaign for president. and right now, clinton is on the road headed for iowa. clinton is clearly hoping to reintroduce herself to voters in that critical state, but the latest poll numbers there show it won't be easy. let's bring in nbc's tracie potts live on capitol hill with a look at how iowa voters can see clinton. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. her national numbers look good

in our latest "wall street journal" and nbc poll. last week quinnipiac issued a poll that found her likability numbers, whether people trust her, whether they think she's honest 49-43 in iowa. she has some work to do there and that's why she's in a van right now headed to iowa. she's expected to land there some time there. she'll speak at a community college tomorrow with lots of other smaller roundtable events. then she's going to tour a business on wednesday. the strategy seems to be not big rallies, but go small. get her out there, seen, with a lot of individuals and families families and the middle class is going to be the focus. but her opponents, rand paul jeb bush ted cruz, they're already out there pouncing with videos and ads. >> not surprised about that. tracie potts live on capitol hill for us. thank you. former maryland governor martin o'malley promising to bring a quote, robust debate

end quote, to the democratic primary if he decides to challenge clinton. his spokesperson released a statement saying that the democratic party would benefit from that debate. o'malley is one of the handful of democrats who appear likely to challenge clinton. including jim webb and also vermont senator bernie sanders who are publicly eyeing bids for the nomination. congress returns to work. they're already up against the clock with a lot on their plate today. they have two days to make a deal on how doctors are paid by medicare. the white house is waiting for action on the president's attorney general nominee. and lawmakers will push again for more say over nuclear negotiations with iran. house and senate budget negotiators could meet this week. democrats return to the hill for the first time since minority leader harry reid announced he won't run again. everything is back to normal you would side the white house this morning after a false alarm. a 4-year-old climbed under a

"the washington post" obtained an incident report over the weekend that says natasha mckenna initially cooperated with police and agreed to be handcuffed. but then she tried to fight her way out. six officers in bio hazard suits placed mckenna's hands and legs into restraints and used a stun gun four times. today in fairfax county you can learn how community leaders are fighting drug abuse in your community. the forum begins at 7:00 p.m. at the public schools administration center. that's on gate house road in falls church. health officials will present a
