r: yes, some scary moments for the people here. the capitol police have hauled that gyrocopter off the lawn and federal law enforcement sources tell me they didn't find any explosives or womens on board. let's get you straight there. the pilot coming in. witnesses say he was flying from the west. coming in about 30 feet over the national mall. the faa has restricted that air space for anyone flying under 18,000 feet. the faa said they were not alerted to this flight. the witnesses say they could see the insignia of the u.s. postal service on the side of it. some of them thought this was an official flight. the plane, gyro copter plomd down on that front lawn of the capitol. witnesses say that the man did not come out immediately. the comment police were right there to arrest him. he did not come out until ordered to do so. some of the reasons why perhaps they did not shoot him down a,

tracks around 3:00 this evening. the good news is that no one was on the bridge and a train was passing by at the time. no one was hurt. right now, a lot of commuters are frustrated. they're getting off at college park because of the green line being suspended indefinitely. we talk to someone who works nearby and leader the bridge collapse. >> a big loud noise, boom. then people started coming up. i was like wow! a lot of people come around walk the train. >> now green line service again is suspended indefinitely between green belt and college park. i found out it will most likely be suspended into the night. at 6:00 the spokesperson said he will have an update. he will let us know if this will affect tomorrow morning's commute. he is talking to a lot of crews out here. the experts and trying to figure out what effect this will have on tomorrow morning's commute. we'll bring you the details and continue to follow us on twitter

at nbcwashington. and i'll tell what you is going on out here first hand at shomari stone. live here in berwyn. we have some breaking news in potomac, maryland. several school kids are being treated for injuries after two school buses collided. this happened on river road near bradley boulevard. this is a traffic camera from the scene. traffic is moving at last check. both buses are from the school. two students and two bus drivers taken to the hospital. none of the injuries believed to be serious. a teenager accused of vandalizing the synagogue told news4 he is sorry. so what does the community think? >> reporter: an arrest within days of the incident and then an apology. now we are indeed hearing from the targets of that hateful graffiti.

>> i want to say that i really regret it. and i'm really sorry. >> reporter: what he's sorry about is taking part in this. the 18-year-old was arrested today. he admitted to being one of two people caught on surveillance video last week painting swastikas and kkk on the walls and windows of the synagogue. >> i'm not a racist person. i will never be a racist person in my life. >> reporter: the rabbi said he is thankful to the police for an arrest and he said he will likely speak with espinoza. >> hopefully over time we'll find out more about the folks who were responsible and we'll see what they have to say. and we'll understand a little better what was behind what happened here. >> reporter: police say they would like to speak to others involved. they believe there are at least three others. the investigation led them to some area businesses. >> in fact this group did visit

to the bottom of this. a police officer is talking to one of the homeowners now people are wondering why someone would do this. >> initially, the car was just filled with smoke. >> reporter: an arson right in his driveway. the inside of his wife's honda society fire. >> the flame were shooting up a few feet when it was on the driveway. inside the car it was smoldering. >> reporter: zimmerman discovered the fire when he was out getting the payment at 6:00 a.m. he thought the light was. on he open the door and the fire just went. >> the flames started quickly to ignite. i snuffed out what i could by handle. >> reporter: it wasn't just the zimmerman van. they got the range rover across the street also. the fire burned through the front passenger seat. whoever did it went around the corner to a house on glen brook road and set fire to a lexus suv. came m.o. the zimmermans think they left their car door unlocked. >> they were probably looking

13-miles-per-hour. 67 degrees though. temperatures at or right around the average for this time of year. maybe a little below. 63 gaithersburg. 66 toward fredericksburg and 64 in marnltsburg. not a bad afternoon. and it has been dry all day. storm-team 4 radar not showing any rain around the region. one thing you notice we've got some showers that have tried to move this way all day. the clouds are getting here no problem. but notice the rain moving to the north and east. and then just being shunted right back down. look at this line making its way toward the south. and then the rain shifting to the south. we have an area of high pressure to the north. that area of high pressure bringing in drier air across our region. and the clouds get in but not the rain. even though we've got a good area of low pressure with a lot of moisture, that area of high pressure a little bit stronger. that will keep us dry over the next 24 hours or so. what are we expecting to see in

letters for lawmakers on board, calling for campaign finance reform. police have him in custody tonight. hughes spoke to a florida newspaper about the flight and e-mailed a number of media outlets including news4 shortly before the flight to get message out. the capitol and white house were locked down for a time but both are operating normally now and all streets are also reopen around the area. for a moment she thought she was under attack. bullets hit her walls prompting her to take cover as she called 911. david culver is live with a story you'll only see on news4. >> reporter: behind me this is house that belongs to miss sally thomas. it sits on a relatively quiet corner. late last week the silence interrupted by gunshots. police tell us those bullets came from her neighbor's

ruling favoring the owners of reston national. the northern virginia bureau chief says the group battling redevelopment is not giving up. >> reporter: this view from the back deck is what sold kathy six years ago when she bought this townhouse right next to the reston golf course. >> i said this is perfect. >> reporter: now she and many others fear this open space could be in jeopardy. that the fairways could become asphalt streets dotted with homes. >> it goes against what reston is. it is a planned community. and for 50 years, it has been a planned community. >> reporter: the course travis began when the owners asked fairfax county zoning administrator whether the property was subject to development restrictions. he said yes. but today zoning board of appeals made a different finaling that could create a smoother path to development. they would have to use normal county procedures to seek

development. >> the thousands of homeowners that bought on the golf course bought with open space in their backyard. no one ever dreamed it would be anything else. >> reporter: a lawyer for the golf course owners responded with this statement. this was only an effort to confirm property rights. this was not an effort to rezone or change anything. but they say they might not wait to find out what they have in mine. they might go straight to court to challenge the ruling. in reston virginia. news4. 150 years in prison for a man convicted of preying on other men after drinking events in maryland. the judge handed down that sentence today to joey poindexter who was convicted of sex assaults on five men that he met at beer pong tournaments. prosecutors say there could be at least two dozen other victims based on videos and photographs that they say poindexter took of these assaults.

new details on last month's death of a 5-year-old virginia boy. prosecutors say noah thomas was left unassume advised at his pulaski county home with his 6-month-old sister on the day he disappeared. his body was found in a septic tank four days later. the child's mother originally told police the child left the house while she was napping. but it turns out she was actually driving the boy's father to his job. the couple faces child abuse and neglect charges. stop the silence. end sexual violence. the message tonight from the first annual walk in support of victims of sexual assault in fairfax county. many walkers wore badges with numbers representing the estimated 264th sex assault victims in the county last year. a man left in a coma after a struggle with baltimore police. only the, the new legal action his family is taking. and a starting police tactic

prison. sentenced after seven days of deliberations to life without parole for the murder of odin lloyd. prosecutors said he killed lloyd and then left his body in a vacant lot. in court, the victim's relatives talked about it. his mother spoke about burying her first born child. >> i felt like i wanted to go into the home with my son. >> we have to relive the fact that we are here. i see his picture on the news. i see my mom's tears. my family. and i can't. i can't console them. >> despite no murder weapon, no motive, prosecutors managed to tie him to the murder through

his cell phone. he still faces other charges. ? one officer's unorthodox methods are being defended now. take a look. a man on foot taken down by a police cruiser moving 40-miles-per-hour. the man survived his attorney calls it excessive forceful but the police chief there says the man had gone on a crime spree that included stealing a high powered rifle that he fired off. he says without that action it could have been a more tragic situation. and we are hearing from the man who was riding with walter scott in the moments before a police officer fatally shot scott. pierre fulton was seen on dash cam video getting out of the same car that he ran from during a traffic stop last week in south carolina. today his lawyer told our sister station in charleston that he

>> we don't really know what to do. i guess sit here. >> the guy says he was driving in the northern part of the state when he spotted the funnel cloud. he says in the video he's never been that close to one. he couldn't tell which direction he was headed or how he should move to get to safety. eventually it was right on top of him. >> oh my gosh. holy smokes! >> the man along with other drivers managed to find shelter under a bridge overpass. he says the tornado's passing was more vile than the video actually indicates. >> it looks like he could roll down his window and touch it. >> they had a couple of f-4s that day. i'm not sure which one that was. that underpass may have helped a little. they say you don't want to go under those but it might have helped him a little bit there.

fairfax county police just announced the arrest of their own office order child pornography charges. officer bud walker faces two counts of possession of child porn. he's been a spoke person for fairfax county police for the past six years. he's been relieved of duty but he is on administrative leave with pay.

investigators were led to walker by a tip from a blogging site. according to police it said child porn had been uploaded from a house in fairfax county. police determined that home was own by officer walker. he is now being held without bond. i'm pat lawson muse. there are new questions the actions of baltimore city police while handling a suspect in critical condition. and friends say on life support. as jane miller reports, this isn't the first time the city's officers have come under fire for possible excessive force. >> reporter: video shows the man identified as freddy gray after he had been arrested by police in west baltimore. this is how gray appeared as officers put him in a police wagon and took him out of view. he is talking, able to move his legs. he lifts his head. video in a different locations shows he had been taken out of the van. for additional restraint.

here he is seen on the pavement on his knees. this is the way gray appeared later. after. while still in police custody he was taken to a hospital. friends say he was suffering from a broken neck. the most severe spinal cord injury which can cause paralysis. wham to lead to the injury is now under investigation. the department's questionable handling of prisonerser previously has led to expensive investigation. jeffrey was left paralyzed and in need of constant nursing care after his arrest in 1997. he argued city police threw him head first into a police van after being stopped for a speeding ticket. he suffered a broken neck. the city settled his lawsuit for $6 million. in december 2005 a suspect died of a fractured spine. his flame argued city police fail to secure him with a seatbelt inside the van.
