the district, southern avenue and southeast back open after this serious crash. take a look at this. these are the cars that slided just after 1:00 this morning. the black car flipped over right there. we know that six adults were involved in this accident. two were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. we're working to find out what led up to this crash. we're following a developing story in fredericksburg virginia. mary washington is mourning the loss of a student. grace mann died at the hands of her own roommate. this morning police are trying to figure out why. shomari stone has reaction from neighbors in the quiet community college. >> reporter: friends remember her as an intelligent 20-year-old who uplifted the student body at mary washington. they arrested her roommate for allegedly killing her inside the house they rented with two other roommates. >> definitely is scary. the fact that we didn't hear anything no altercation that's

the scary part. >> reporter: she lives across the street. >> they were good at school. >> reporter: two of the other roommates came home and found her unconscious. police say they called 911, tried cpr and steven took off running before officers showed up. police found him at this church parking lot on the other side of town. >> any reason why had he would do this? >> don't have information about this at this time. >> reporter: they were both students at university of mary washington. police believe they were not in a romantic relationship. grace was an executive board member of feminist united, a member of the student government, a history and american studies major who also served on the university president's task force on sexual assault. tonight a university spokesperson released a statement saying, quote, it is with great sadness that we report the death of one of our students grace r.manna junior

from falls church virginia. >> i hope she gets justice for what happened. it's a shame, it really is. >> reporter: shomari stone, news 4. today pligs are trying to figure out how a pedestrian was hit and killed in prince georges county. it happened on brinkley road near the shopping center in temple hills. the driver did stay on the scene. a montgomery county karate teach teacher is on the run from police on charges he collected child porn. he worked at a karate studio. police say they have been investigating him since last year. he confessed he received and traded child porn. investigators seized his computers and found several videos of him having sex with young boys. police say some of the videos were filmed at the karate studio. police believe he fled to the nation of georgia. property tax rates may not go up next year if you live in

fairfax county. the board of supervisors put in place a proposed budget for 2016 yesterday, but not everyone will get what they want. schools will fall $14 million short of what they asked for. county employees will not get the raise they were promised. they were expecting a raise of 1.7%. that's now down to 1.1%. that could all change the final vote for the budget. a tuition hike could be coming to the university of mary washington. the cfo says budget cuts make a hike necessary. he's proposed in-state students pay $820 more per year while out of state students would pay $1600 per year. another option would be using $500,000 of reserve funds and that would result in a greater tuition hike. the cottage in northwest d.c. will be draped in black. the tribute is to mark 150 years since president lincoln was assassinated.

new this morning, an l.a. kings hockey player is waking up in jail accused of being in possession of cocaine and ecstasy. he was arrested at the wet republic pool at the mgm grand on the vegas strip. his hearing will be held today. that's the sound of frustrated passengers on board a united plane. the flight was supposed to be headed from kansas city to denver. severe weather diverted that plane to an hour outside of denver in colorado springs. that is where passengers say they were kept on the tarmac for six hours. people were told if they got off the plane, they wouldn't be able to make it to their final destination. >> they ran out of supplies in the bathroom, it smelled foul, it was just bad circumstances.

we got half a cup of water, little crackers, nothing. >> the airport says it's not sure why united did not dock the plane at one of the several open gates. the plane eventually unloaded and told the rest of the flight was cancelled and they'd have to take a bus an hour to book another flight. take a look at this video here. spring storms are bringing heavy rain, snow and hail across parts of the country. a massive pileup involving two semis, a motor home and two buss in denver left a dozen people injured. some seriously. snow and dense fog making treacherous driving conditions. heavy, wet snow caused carports to collapse damaging more than a dozen cars and heavy snow is to blame for another pileup in wyoming.

more incredible video a tornado touching down in texas. this video was shot north of amarillo. the storm brought large hail and several tornadoes reported in the area. luckily, no one was hurt. heavy rain left parts of southeast texas under water. drivers were stranded south of houston with thunder and lightning. hundreds of people were stranded at the fairground. they were wet, muddy and without power. dr. oz is responding to accusations that he promotes so so-called quack treatments. he posted on his facebook i bring the public information that will help them on their path to be their best selves. we provide multiple points of view. this week ten doctors wrote a letter to the health sciences dean at columbia saying the tv doctor misleads and endangers the public. he's the vice chair of the department of surgery at columbia.

developing this morning, gunfights broke out in one of mexico's biggest cities along the u.s. border. this after mexican authorities arrested the leader of a cartel, which is one of the main drug gangs in the area. vehicles, as you can see, were torched. and then shootout began. three people were killed and two state police were hurt. it's been one of the most violent cities in mexico over the past year racked by turf wars. isis claiming responsibility for a suicide bombing at a popular market this morning. afghanistan's president just made that announcement. the bomb went off in jalalabad, afghanistan. 36 people were killed and 100 others were hurt. >>. today five men are waking up in custody accused of plotting terrorist attacks on police officers in australia. the suspects including two 18-year-olds are accused of preparing the attack.

as one police officer put it, the thief has no heart. someone stole a little boy's wheelchair last weekend. thanks to an enormous show of support, he got a new one yesterday and chris gordon was there when it was delivered. >> reporter: prince georges county police delivered a replacement wheelchair to the 4-year-old youngster who had his wheelchair stolen. this surveillance video showing the thief rolling it across the parking lot outside the family's apartment resulted in the donation. >> from the bottom of my heart, i'm very grateful. >> reporter: police announced that the wheelchair was donated by the mother of 11-year-old emanuel marshal, who had outgrown it and wanted to help by donating it to joshua. >> i honestly shed a tear. it was because the situation was

was found murdered in her home. the kids are young and a neighbor found them sitting in their pajamas in front of their house yesterday. investigator a 42-year-old psychologist who does contract work for the fbi. dr. black is separated from her husband and the couple is in the middle of a divorce. police say he is talking, the ex-husband, to detectives and is cooperating with the investigation. the man at the center of a crime spree that left a u.s. census bureau guard dead has been charged with murder. ronald anderson is facing new kidnapping charges. documents reveal he was chasing a car with his ex-girlfriend and another person inside. the driver of that car decided to go to the census bureau because they knew there would be armed guards. he shot a guard who later died and anderson got into a shootout with d.c. police. he faces life in prison or the death penalty if convicted. a fairfax county police officer is no longer on the job today after bonding out of jail on child pornography charges.

bud walker resigned yesterday. he walked out of jail late yesterday morning after posting a $15,000 bond. he can't use a computer or have unsupervised contact with children. walker was a public information officer when the investigation began. we are following a developing story in iraq. isis claiming responsibility for a car bombing outside the u.s. consulate in irbil. the city is in the northern section of iraq. the explosion killed three people, but no one inside the consulate. a medical official told nbc news a dozen others were hurt including an american woman who taught at a local primary school. more than a dozen people recovering in a hospital this morning after an explosion in california. a work crew was using heavy equipment at the fresno county sheriffs gun range and hit a pipeline carrying natural gas. you can see that line burst.

witnesses saw a huge fireball. shoot 200 feet in the air and the explosion shut down a major highway for hours. at least three people were severely burned. do you feel good about your job? so i could be a college dropout and do the same thing? >> reaction is still coming into to those comments from espn reporter britt mchenry. her vehicle had just been towed. she said she allowed her emotions to get the best of her and said insulting and regrettable things. she is not the first driver to express anger about advanced towing practices. they were looked into. the numbers of official complaints. >> reporter: carlos martinez and his son had an expensive lunch, $135. the bill they paid to the towing company that hauled their van away after they parked here to eat. he parked in this lot, but when

he realized he was short in cash he went across the street to the bank of america. >> it took seven minutes. >> reporter: when he returned, his van was gone. he accused advanced towing of predatory practices. >> they are like thieves and immediately they stole our cars and have to pay a reward to get our cars back. >> reporter: advanced towing is a company we have reported on several times in recent months. in december this woman called us to complain when her vehicle was towed with her dog inside. earlier this month this dad was outraged when he was inside a cvs and a tow truck driver hooked his car with two kids inside. the kids yelled and the driver unhooked and took off. >> when i started crying, he said i'm sorry for freaking out you. >> reporter: the i-team gathered statistics to see if there are more complaints.

police investigate towing complaints. their records show from 2012 to 2014 advanced towing was the target of 155 complaints. that's far more than any of the other companies that do business in arlington. in fact, more than all the others combined. police determined advanced towing committed 15 violations in that time. now carlos plans to let police know what happened in his case. >> after the vud owe was released espn suspended mchenry for a week. advanced towing said, mchenry is our neighbor and as she said, made remarks out of line. she's human and errors in judgment can be made in the heat of the moment. you'll soon be paying more to travel on the vre. fare fares will increase on july 1st. the amtrak cost of step up

it appears former arkansas governor is getting very close to another run for president. mike huckabee told fox news he will unveil his plans about the 2016 race on may 5th in hope ar arkansas. so far three republicans have officially declared ted cruz rand paul and marco rubio. a new bill was passed to make it harder for lobbyists to wine and dine them. it limits gifts to $100 a year. that includes meals and entertainment. the reform legislation was prompted by a corruption scandal involving bob mcdonnell and his wife. a jury convicted the couple for accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and loans. with today's nice weather, many way head down to the canal.

we're learning about a new way to enjoy the canal overnight. zachary kiesch has more on the historical lock houses. >> this is you spend a lot of time hanging out. >> reporter: it was george washington's vision to see an old canal from georgetown to cumberland. along the route, 20-some lock houses. >> this is the first lock house i stayed in. we have been in three others. we have one booked for end of august. >> reporter: today the old lock houses are a sort of retreat for people. >> we actually help raise the funds to refurbish a number of the lock houses and furnish them. >> reporter: mike mitchell runs canal quarters. six lock houses have been renovated. all built in the 1830s they range from no plumbing or electricity like this to full amenities. >> then they have firewood so then they have the fire circle.
