and sadness on a virginia college campus as students are honoring a young woman who may have been murdered by her own roommate. plus what sparked this apartment fire that left dozens of people homeless and the concert that took over the national mall. news 4 at 6:00 starts now. first, at 6:00 she was in the student senate she was well-known on campus. she was trying to make it a safer place for students but tonight her roommate is in jail, accused of killing the college junior in her bedroom. chris's classmates are shocked. and they are saying as derrick ward reports, they're making sure she's not forgotten. >> reporter: by all appearances, this neighborhood near the campus of mary washington is an idyllic place.

this neighbor, who at any timedidn't want to go on camera, remembers when the coeds moved in. >> i told them what my name was. i was their neighbor. >> reporter: but the peace is a sark contrast to what happened. grace rebecca mann is dead. and this student is in jail on a first degree murder charge. >> this is vein. it this is a quiet neighborhood. >> reporter: they toured the campus on a bright sunny saturday. there's sadness. they're planning a memorial and grief counselor are already among them as a town and campus community rye po make try to make sense of what happened here. there will be a walk in memory

of severe weather in the forecast. he completed his mission, and now the man who landed his gyro craft on the lawn of the wap capitol is headed home. he will have to wear an ankle monitor until he comes back for his next court appearance. he made the protest and his wife call the him a patriot. an apartment fire forced more than two dozen people out of their homes at the oaks on livingston terrace. the fire started on one of the balconies in an air conditioning unit. five apartments were damaged, and the red cross is helping those families with temporary housing. over in alexandria there's been a deadly crash and alcohol may be to blame. a bmw hit a curb and crashed into a fire hydrant and telephone pole.

the passenger died in the crash. paramedics rushed the driver to the hospital. they don't think they were going too fast but they are looking into whether he was drinking. in missouri a man was shot and body cameras caught the entire incident. the officers say the suspect charged at them with a knife, and they had to shoot him. officers were called to the scene when a mother called 911 and said her son was walking around the house with knives and a samurai sword. a little later here on news 4, an ohio police officer's dramatic arrest after double murder suspect was also captured on a body camera. find out how he got the camera that wasn't even issued by his department. all right, raptors, this one had us all sweating. >> the wizards, they didn't win a single game against toronto

a many van, a cage on the roof with several puppies in it. ? an ohio family learned the hard way, this is not how you take your dogs on vacation. four puppies in a cage, strapped to the top of a mini van, cruising down the highway. and when other drivers saw them the calls started pouring into 911. turns out a family of six was headed to pennsylvania some 300 miles away. the family said they didn't have any room in the mini slap. they willingly handed over the puppies to police. >> i didn't see any injuries. they would not leave each other. they were huddled together. they were scared. they did have a tarp that covered three sides of the cage. but they're still experiencing a lot of wind. a lot of noise. >> the family said they weren't aware it was illegal to transport puppies like that wouldn't have done it if they knew. >> tonight, a rookie officer is being praised for holding back. up next, the dramatic video of a

actions are being called as a positive example of policing. some of the other encounters have been captured on police body cameras. others like in ferguson missouri have not. something many protesters and police bosses would like to see changed. officer jesse kidder's body camera was given to him by a relative. the other officers would like to have one. the chief is now seeking funding to equip all of them with one. tonight they are feeling the wrath of a planeful of passengers. a plane had to be diverted because of bad weather. passengers said the airline told them you could get off the plane but you'll forfeit your seat. so some stayed on board and ended up waiting on the tarmac for more than since hours. >> eventually the plane moved to a gate and was canceled.

united got a bus and drove the passengers to denver nearly two hours. if you're counting that's 12 hours for a trip that normally takes less than two. i think we've all got a story similar to that to tell. it was beautiful today, our high 84. it was the warmest day so far this year. it is cooler tomorrow but seasonable 65 66 degrees. tomorrow not bad at all. as we get into the later hours of the day, chance of showers enters the forecast into tomorrow night and monday morning. heavy rain is likely and hen storms are possible late in the day on monday depending on how much sun we get. they could be strong to severe. we're going to keep a close eye on monday the entire day. then as we look to the end of the upcoming week temperatures are going to be feeling cooler. maybe today you're saying it's too warm for me i want more spring.

don't worry, temperatures will be trending downward overall. travel looks good. exercising cooler. if you have plans for your sunday evening, you could be dealing with rain moving into the area. right now we're in the upper 70s and low 80s. 80 is the temperature in washington. for tomorrow night's start, 57 degrees. it's breezy tomorrow afternoon with a high of 66. rain moves in tomorrow evening. future weather keeping us dry by 5:00. about a 30% chance of showers inside of the beltway at that point. by 5:00 rain likely everywhere. even some reds. that's heavy rain. if you travel early to work on monday know you'll be dealing with some heavy rain. we likely get a break around the midday hours. and depending on how much sun we get, that could determine how severe the storms are. more sun stronger storms.
