looking at the stories making headlines at 5:30. another white house fence jumper is facing charges. the incident happened around 10:30 last night. this time on the south side of the white house complex. secret service tells us the individual was immediately arrested. police trying to identify suspects who robbed the house while people were inside it in montgomery county. officers say several men arrangemed with guns kicked in a house in germantown. that happened before 11:00 has night. no one was hurt.

under way in a few hours. jay, good morning to you. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you, aaron. just before the sunrise here and before the start of the race at 8:00 in boston, you know in many ways this run on patriots day is really at the core of what makes boston boston. this community determined to make sure it stays that way. extra security out as you might expect and as you talked about. they know not they hope, they know that everything will be safe here. they feel like lessons have been learned and that they've carried off one race since the bombing. this will be the second 119th running of the boston marathon and they're very confident about security here today. more than 100,000 people expected to pour out and be a part of the fans that cheer on these runners throughout the day and celebrate patriots day and that's the one thing that officials here say needs to be the case. that the celebration needs to continue. it needs to be an exciting and fun day for everyone involved. that's what this day is all about. they don't want the terrorists to take that away.

about the private lodging today. it's making that at the end of this fiscal year. many have switched to private operations with the company west east. and an important reminder to keep your eyes on the road. the city of annapolis is in the midst of a major driving while distracted driving campaign. the police say most of the arrests were for people talking on their phone. the effort is part of a distracted driving awareness month. the maryland highway safety office says more than 28,000 people are injured every year as a result of distracted driving. well, the amount of time you spend this morning trying to get ready -- trying to get to work was just compiled into a national study. aaa says most of you spend about 46 minutes in the car every day trying to travel 29 miles. those of you trying to and from work drive on average 13,000 miles a year. women take more trips but men are behind the wheel more often and drive farther. you'll get a chance to weigh in on the name of a new high

school in prince william county. the high school is still being built right now near benton middle school. and the board is expected to have a final vote on the name by may 20th. a puppy is safe this morning after firefighters rescued him from a pipe in montgomery county. look at that guy. firefighters pulled that 9 week old pomeranian named blue from the pipe early yesterday morning. he is tiny. pomeranians, they're tiny. the dog was trapped for about 12 feet under ground for seven hours. crews fed him gave him some oxygen while he was still there. he'll be exokay though. well, the caps are facing a must win situation on the road tomorrow night. they rocked game three against the islanders in overtime. one more loss and they'll have to win three in a row. to move on. players say they're not letting the pressure get to them.

one person is dead after a powerful earthquake struck off the coast of okinawa. the quake caused buildings in the taiwanese capital of taipei to sway. a warning for a tsunami up to three feet high was issued, but was cancelled after one hour. we now know an unattended cooking flame sparked this fire that is threatening homes in southern california. apologize for the incorrect video here. we can tell you this fire happened saturday night that forced hundreds from their homes outside of los angeles. they have been allowed to return to their homes.

years later. the blowout happened five years ago today. the scientists tracking bottle nosed dolphins have seen far fewer birds and 95% of the dolphins died. coastal erosion is a problem as well. the associated press reports deep sea oil drilling continues to expand into further depths and the number of deep water drilling rigs is up to 48 from 35 at the time of the spill. well, this next morning about actor ben affleck has more than 200 lines on the facebook page. during the filming of a pbs tv show he discovered his ancestors owned slaves. according to e-mails on wikileaks he asked them not to include the ancestors who owned slaves in the story. be that bad of a day. you have to be weather ready for the afternoon and evening hours with the potential for strong to severe storms in the forecast. because of that, it's a weather alert day. and the weather is having a moderate impact on your day today. storms move into the area around i-91 in the d.c. metro area, about 5:00 p.m. before that, it's warm and it's a bit humid outside. here's the latest on storm team 4 radar. you can see this heavy activity over the eastern shore. the yellows and oranges here on the radar. some light showers now across the area. you could head out this morning and leave the umbrella at home at this point. temperatures coming in the 50s and 60s. 66 degrees right now in washington. and we will warm up quickly. by the midday hours, temperatures in the low 70s. 3:00 we hit 80 degrees. partly to mostly sunny skies and humid. as we get into the evening hours this is when the storms are likely in the d.c. metro area.
