guy. and one game away. now the wizards a step closer to sweeping toronto with a win tonight at verizon center. severe weather is roaring through parts of the south tonight, part of a system that's bringing rain our way. >> we've got some new video of some strong wind and hail in a place called stephenville texas, just outside dallas. there's been a couple of tornadoes reported in central texas tonight, and even hail the size of baseballs. >> nothing severe expected here but this system will have an impact on our weekend. meteorologist amelia segal is here to tell us when and how bad -- how we had it's going to do? >> doreen we'll be tracking rain moving into the area during the late afternoon and evening hours tomorrow. now, this system right now impacting parts tennessee, the gulf states arkansas and pulling out of texas. with future weather i'm starting you off at noon.

the clouds already in place. it's another chilly day. it won't be breezy though. so some good news there, but look at what happens at 3:00 p.m. rain is in prince william and fauquier counties. as we work our way into the evening hours, early evening, rain is impacting washington arlington, alexandria and continuing to push into prince george's county. by 9:00 everybody is dealing with light to moderate showers. rain continues overnight. now, before the rain arrives, there will be some frost in spots tomorrow morning. i'll let you know when you can expect as far as that's concerned and when does rain leave the area? doreen. >> right now the biggest coffee chain in the country is giving away free coffee to thousands of customers because of a computer outage. check out this picture from a reporter at our affiliate in seattle. people line up for their free cove and it's like that nationwide. news 4's shomari stone reports

live tonight from one location. >> reporter: this is a first. it's historic. take a look at my cup. it says free for stone. computer down. how often do you see this? i got this in hyattsville, maryland and one of the many starbucks around the country giving out that free coffee tonight. customers at starbucks in dupont circle were surprised when the employee told them their coffee was on the house. starbucks says the computer glitch has disrupted sales at 7,000 company-operated stores in the u.s. in a written statement a starbucks spokesperson says quote, we're actively working to resolve the outage in our stores and will remain open an continue to serve our customers. the outage was caused by a failure during a daily system refresh. we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience or confusion and will update the statement once systems are back online. now we'll hear from a dupont circle starbucks customer. >> we'll check out our wallets and they said you know unless

a dhl package was found to contain a so-called party drug that can be distilled to make ghb often used as a date rape drug. address on the package was this home in the 5700 block of colorado avenue in northwest d.c. when u.s. customs and border protection agents showed up to the house with a search warrant yesterday after finding a quantity of methamphetamines, they arrested the occupant. 49-year-old fred wesly pagan is a top staffer and office manager from mississippi senator thad cochran, chairman of the powerful senate appropriations committee. court documents said pagan told the agency he intended to trade the drugs in exchange for sex favors. he's worked for the senator since he was 16 years old and the senator released a statement saying senator cochran is disturbed and deeply saddened by the arrest of his longtime aide and is suspending him from all duties penned willing outcome of the case. after an initial appearance earlier today, a judge ordered

pagan released on his own recognizance until his next court appearance. >> an arrest tonight in a shooting that injured two teenagers last week. d.c. police arrested 18-year-old jemnani teens ter this morning. he's charged with shooting two teenagers last thursday. police have not said what led to that shooting or when feemster and the two victims know each other. graphic video shows a 69-year-old man beaten on a metro escalator. tonight police want your help finding the attacker. investigators say the man got into a verbal altercation with a teenager at the eastern market station. it happened this afternoon. the teen spit at the man and then started throwing punches at the top of an escalator. the victim fell and hit his head and then the took teen off. man went to the hospital for treatment. if you think you might have any information about this attack call police. >> protesters are planning a

massive demonstration in baltimore tomorrow over the death of freddie gray. as the city prepares for that its leaders are admitting mistakes and they are calling for calm. today the police commissioner said his officers made a number of errors in their handling of gray's arrest. gray suffered a spinal injury and died in police custody after he was arrested earlier this month. the mayor says she wants saturday's demonstration to be peaceful. >> this community and this whole community is committed to seeking justice for mr. gray. if you're going to come here come to help us not to hurt us >> the police commissioner has come under fire. he was asked whether he would resign. his answer was that that quote, is not going to happen. we invite to you stay up to date with everything that happens over the weekend with breaking news alert on our nbc washington app and join chris lawrence tomorrow for news 4 at 6:00 and 11:00. new tonight, alexandria is

making its official recommendation for the site of the proposed potomac yard metro station. the city's preference is the station closer to the potomac yard shopping center near the existing target store. now metro and the alexandria city council will hold a series of public meetings to get input on the plan before moving forward. >> quite a sendoff in cincinnati today as two people are going to washington to appear before the supreme court. they are part -- they are plaintiffs in an historic gay marriage case. the court will hear the case on tuesday. here in d.c. we've got a small preview of what to expect next week. faith leaders gathered to defend traditional marriage. human rights campaign meanwhile discussed marriage equality. the court's ruling this summer could decide whether any state can legally ban gay marriage. fairfax county public schools are confronting the

issue of gender identity and whether to toad to the district's non-discrimination policy. charlie cranford teague is one of the people supporting the movement the south lakes high school junior calls herself gender fluid because on same days she identifies as a girl and on others as a boy. she feels the proposed new language would send a message to cross-gender students that the district cares about them. >> i'm in a dress today because today i identify as female but yesterday i was identifying more as male. >> why would you want to punish somebody for being who they are? >> critics of the proposal say the plan will lead to mixed gender bathrooms and possibly put boys and girls at risk. new tonight, the company for which warren weinstein worked when he was kidnapped by al qaeda is reacting to his death. weinstein lived in rockville. j.e. austin associates released a statement tonight calling him a wonderful human being and then

highlighted his, in their words, tireless dedication to development in pakistan. in the meantime the u.s. drone strike that killed weinstein is putting pressure on the white house to look closely at how it deals with american hostages. >> we're going to review what happened. we're going to identify the lessons that can be learned and any improvements and changes that can be made. >> weinstein's wife called the assistance her family received from the government their words, inconsistent and disappointing. new tonight, hawaii could become the first state to make it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to smoke. lawmakers passed a bill that applies to both tobacco and electronic cigarettes. the governor hasn't said whether he'll sign it yet. new york city raised its legal smoking age to 21 last year. supporters of the bill say 90% of smokers start their habit before age 19. coming up tonight, one of the students injured when the stage collapsed speaks from her hospital bed.

it's the eve of the big night and celebrities and

journalists have been pouring into town. hollywood on the potomac. some call it the nerd prom. officially it's known as the white house correspondents' dinner. it's now become a three-day affair. ten parties tonight. the dinner seven parties before and after that tomorrow night. then several brunches to decompress on sunday. singer and no stranger to town john legend arrived tonight for a big bash held by politico. he arrived on the red carpet at the longview gallery to kick off the weekend with a live performance and a panel discussion on civil rights. the toughest ticket of course is the dinner itself. 26,000 seats, 260 tables. already 1,200 requests have been turned away. at $3,000 a table, it is an expensive room. it can be a rough room too especially if you're on the receiving end of a barb or if you're dishing out a roast. will you take the gloves off, going to go easy on people or worried about offending anybody? >> i don't want to be too harsh,

"don't stop believing." the accident left many students hospitalized and in shock. >> it's a great theater department and they work really hard on it and stuff, so everyone was just -- it was just a shock to everyone. no one expected it. students were treated for torn ligaments, broken bones and possible concussions, but everyone is home from the hospital tonight. the investigation is still under way. thousands of people have already shelled out between $350 and $10,000 for the apple watch. "consumer reports" already is putting that much hyped smartwatch to the test. our consumer reporter erica gonzalez has the initial results. >> the apple watch has spent all day in the "consumer reports" facility so how well did it do before you go and spend big bucks on it? let's take a look. apple announced the release date of its watch in march with great hoop loo. deliveries have begun and "consumer reports" has the watches in its test labs.

the apple watch comes in a variety of styles. the sport is made of lightweight aluminum with hardened glass and the stainless steel has crystal. they fac the same test that all smartwatches face. >> durability is an important feature for your christ, it will be exposed to the elements and will get banged up. >> reporter: this test tests how hard a scratch it can endure. the apple's screen is you have toer and the caf fire is even better. >> you want to know that a smartwatch can handle abuse. >> reporter: both versions were dunked in a pressurized tank for 30 minutes to check apple's water resistant claim. the watches survived the initial test but they won't officially past until testers make sure they still work 24 hours later. one of the apple watches key functions is a fitness device this. test is assessing its accuracy in measuring your heart rate

while moving. still, other panelists are checking usability. how easy it is to do various functions, how itive, what's the learning curve. "consumer reports" final ratings on the apple watch are expected in about a week or so. >> erica gonzalez reporting. amelia is here now with more about our weekend weather. anything outside i guess we better hurry up and get it in in the morning. >> yeah, exactly. an okay weekend. temperatures on the chilly side and only near 60 degrees both days. the one good thing about the weekend. we won't be dealing with the winds. it's been breezy to windy at times. not an issue this weekend, but here's what will be an issue. frost and freeze concerns overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning, mainly for those of you north and west of the district. i'll be showing you the map in just a second. rain moves into the area later in the day tomorrow and likely holds off in washington until 5:00 p.m. and then it will continue into sunday. exactly when it comes to an end, that's a little bit tricky. i'll be showing you that on future weather.

temperatures overall not just this weekend but on into next week remain on cool side. we should be talking about highs in the 70s at this point of the year. right now we're in the 40s and 50s. manassas is all the way down to 35 and washington down to 54. there is a freeze warning for the areas here in purple. this includes frederick and parts of loudon county and a frost advisory for the counties here in light blue. this includes prince williams, fauquier fairfax, all of montgomery county. if you have sensitive plants in these areas, either want to cover them bring them indoors as temperatures dip into the low 30s. if you don't have sensitive plants what, it means, it's just going to be downright cold when you step out early tomorrow morning. right at freezing in gaithersburg and frederick and washington dips to 38. leesburg at 33. areas by the water not as bad. 41 for a low in annapolis. your impacts tomorrow travel looking good and dry for the day. exercise cooler and low humidity and a great day to go for a run and go play some tennis golf whatever your plans are and heading out and about if you

have dinner plans for saturday night. you do want to bring the umbrella and the jacket. it's going to be chilly. temperatures will only warm to near 60 degrees. our high of 59 will hit at about 3:00. we can't draw an isolated shower and for the most part mainly dry. won't be until they get into the evening hours. 6:00 a.m. still tracking showers across the area. once we hit the mid-morning hours, only the chance of showers future weather keeping some rain around but there's just a chance at that point. getting into the afternoon hours, we will have sunshine making an appearance and with that we'll warm to a high temperature near 60 degrees once again. monday it's breezy. it's dry. partly to mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 60. some sprinkles are possible monday afternoon. on tuesday plenty of clouds in the forecast. our temperatures try to warm up a little bit. a high temperature on tuesday of 62. chance of showers returns to the forecast on thursday with a high of 64. and, again, this weekend, i think the best time if you need
