we're following three big stories developing tonight. you just watched the caps go down to the wire against the islanders. we're talking to the players right now and bring you highlights in a few minutes. and hundreds of protestors are gathering with plans to shut down the city of baltimore. and we're live at the rally for freddie gray. and an unbelievable tragedy in nepal. an earthquake kills 1400 people sand a after ladies and gentlemen on mt. everest. we'll have more. we're staying on top of the story in nappal where they have severed the -- suffered the worst earthquake in years. the number of victims have gone

up. some were crushed by an avalanche on mt. everest. it was centered 50 miles outside of kathmandu and the tremors rippled into china and india. and some climbers are hanging on in fear. they are worried about the after shocks after an avalanche thundered down the mun and crashed into base camp. the rush to save survivors. >> tonight the rescues continue through nepal. people buried under the buildings that have collapsed and some people have been able to post updates on twitter. >> the ground shook quite hard for about 30 seconds. looking around i happened to be outdoors at the time. trees were waving like it was a hurricane or something. it was a great deal of alarm and panic and looking over the square where i was, where the car was parked people fled out of their homes. >> and on mt. everest an

avalanche followed the earthquake. ten people were killed there. an unknown number of missing hikers. some 1,000 hikers and climbers and sherpas were on the mountain when the earthquake and subsequent avalanche hit. >> along the base it is covered in two cloudsment we had big avalanches come down over the bases and from here we had rock fall and most of our team is okay. >> the red cross director for asia-pacific is mounting a relief effort and haven't been able to reach the staff in remote villages let alone the people who live there. access roads are damaged or blocked by landslides and communication lines are down. one man who lives close to the epicenter, about 50 miles from kathmandu told the associated press our village has been almost wiped out. most of the houses are buried by landslide or damaged by shaking. he said half of the village

folks are missing or dead and all of the rest have gathered in the open area afraid to go back inside. at least four countries affected. nepal, india, tibet and bangladesh. back to you. >> thanks kelly. there is a nepal community here in our area and this has been especially tough on them. we spoke to the nepal embassy in d.c. and they still have loved ones there and consider themselves lucky because their families are still alive. they are worried about friends and others in their native country. >> i have a few friends over there and they called me here in the morning about the situation. and it made us very worried and we started calling to our relatives and friends, whether they are safe or not. >> another man we spoke with said nepal is in desperate need of medical assistance and food. go to nbcwashington.com for links on how to help. right now local search and

rescue teams are gearing up to head to nepal. we're in fairfax county with crews as they mobilize a recovery effort. we'll have a live report in ten minutes. now developing right now, nearly a thousand protesters are marching through baltimore and demanding to no what happened -- to know what happened to freddie gray. he died a week ago after suffering dramatic spinal cord injury in police customer. derrick is live outside of city hall. what are you see tlg. >> reporter: we are seeing the remnants of a crowd that at the height numbered at 4,000. it started at the police department and near the scene of the arrest and they converged on city hall. they had a spirited rally and now they haven't left and they have gone to other part of the city. the crowd covered this grassy area here. and we spoke to a malik shabazz

one of the organizers about what their intent was with today's action. >> to make sure that the voice of the baltimore residents and those that are suffering are heard clearly and professionally. we want their demands, their feelings and their pain and suffering to be heard by all and i'm leading demonstrators from the western pacific down to there. their intention is to make their demands heard and to make sure that life as normal is not going through as ieshl on a -- usual on saturday. we have achieved that purpose as there is a major police presence in the city and things are going to slow down and get shut down on the way here. >> reporter: now to that end, protesters have moved and we are told they may head to camden yard. we understand there is a game there tonight and they are trying to make their presence known there. but the questions that remain unanswered is how -- i'm sorry

freddie gray obtained the injuries that put him into a coma and led to his death. six of the officers involved in this have been pus on suspension -- put on suspension but the people here say that is a paid vacation. and there are questions whether efforts like this make a difference and sadly people say we have been here before and here we are again. >> and we'll closely watch the protests all weekend and send you breaking news alerts on your nbc washington app. right now 85 manufacturers aren at a fire -- are at a fire at lindsay ford dealership. now they are checking for hot spots to make sure it doesn't flare-up and spread. nobody has been hurt but police have blocked off the road between university boulevard and newport mill. all right, let's get a live look outside where it is still

about a dozen families were jolt add wake in -- jolted awake in the middle of the night in burtensville on blackburn lane. someone was spoking in their bedroom on the third floor.

they toss add side some smoking materials and that set a mattress on fire. one resident told us her dog alerted her that the building was on fire. >> one of my dogs barked so i got up and looked out of the window and i saw emergency vehicles everywhere. i didn't know what was happened and i got dressed and brought them out and my building had been vaticaned and the firefighters were -- had been evacuated and the firefighters were putting out the fire next door. >> one person was hurt and 12 families were burnt out of their apartment and it will cost half a million dollars to repair the damage. next week the supreme court will hear arguments on whether it is constitutional to ban gay marriage. today on the national mall there was one last rally in support of traditional marriage. they want the high court to recognize marriage as solely between a man and a woman. the court will hear orl arguments on tuesday and expected to issue a ruling by the end of the term in june. we're days away from may but

tonight we're in northern virginia continuing our team coverage of the deadly earthquake in nepal.

fairfax crews are on stand by ready to go the moment they are called. darcy is there with the latest. >> we're at the urban search and rescue warehouse in chantilly. and if you look around you can see the bags are packed and the people are here on stand-by waiting for the word go. if you take a back look over here each person has her own set of supply and equipment and rations, enough to last them for 14 days. now ironically they were already doing an international training exercise today when they got that call. that was right around 2:00 this morning. that set this process in motion to get ready to go to nepal for the real thing. they are heading there to help with the search for survivors. about 60 members of the team are part of the task force to head out. this is not the first assignment. they are highly trained in these type of missions. >> we are trained in everything from structural collapse to

trench rescue water rescue. we can perform rope rescue. they train us any way they can think of so we can help. >> reporter: and back out live this is a waiting game. people are hanging out on their phones getting a little bit of relaxation and waiting for the call to head out. they hope it happens sometime tonight. chris, back to you. >> thanks darcy. good to see they are ready to go. school kids in the district come back to a much better looking school on monday thanks to elbow grease from comcast. it is comcast cares day and we rolled up our sleeves at houston elementary. our parent company comcast, and our project was painting murals and painting gardens. that is me doing a bad job, i couldn't get it. and that is our partnership with our nonprofit group city year d.c. >> we want this school to be a place that kids show up to every

tomorrow we'll start off with the chance of rain. into the afternoon and evening it is looking nice. it is the best part of the weekend. and temperatures for the upcoming week will begin to warm. wait until you see the potential high next saturday. tomorrow the weather having a low to maybe moderate impact on the day because of the threat of showers during the early morning hours but i can't stress enough by the afternoon hours, especially the late afternoon hours, relatively speaking it will be pretty nice. here is the latest on storm team 4 radar, everybody seeing rain except for frederick county and up toward baltimore. this rain will not spread across the line i'm drawing here to baltimore but most of us will see rain overnight. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. not going to fall too much overnight. the rain and the clouds helping keep the teams pretty much near steady. regardless though it will be a chilly and damp start tomorrow morning. 7:00 a.m. a temperature around 46 degrees. the chance of showers at that

point, clouds will break up around the midday hours. we're dry for the afternoon and evening and a high temperature tomorrow of 64. so future weather, 3:00 a.m. still tracking rain across the area. but look at what happened at 6:00 a.m. future weather wants to dry us out. chilly for those of you south of washington prince william and fauquier. otherwise, by 9:00 a.m. it comes to an end for everybody. but notice on sky cast 4, still plenty of clouds around. and they break up into the midday hours tomorrow afternoon and evening. great for grilling walking the dog, getting the jog in. tomorrow morning, maybe an early morning tee time keep it but be ready to bundle up for this time of year. on monday a high of 62. it is breezy. partly sunny. there is the chance of an afternoon shower or some sprinkles. and then we start to see
