facing. and firefighters in need of rescue themselves after their truck spins out of control and flips over. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. off the top at 11:00, desperation and despair in nepal. here are the latest developments. violent aftershocks are still rattling the region, including one of them a magnitude 6.7. the earthquake has killed more than 3,200 people including three americans. that earthquake injured thousands more. an american military plane carrying a disaster assistance response team and 45 tons of cargo is on its way. a lot of people in our area have relatives who live in the quake zone. tonight they feel anxious and helpless as they watch what's happening a news of the world away. darcy spencer just spoke with a woman who rockville who is

worried about her loved ones. >> she has been able to speak to her mom, her dad and her sister. phone calls are sporadic but she feels helpless because there's nothing that she can do. >> it was an unbearable moment for me. >> reporter: she's at work at a local sandwich shop, but her mind is thousands of miles away back home in nepal, where her family has lost everything. >> it's a really emotional moment for me. >> reporter: she got a frantic call in the middle of the night saturday. and from the background i heard somebody shouting, they were yelling, they were crying. i asked her what happened. >> reporter: she spoke to her younger sister and her father. they told her about the devastating earthquake the family was safe but the family home and all their belongings were gone. >> i asked, dad, what happened? he said that our house is no more. and that was the moment you know i couldn't control myself and i was with all tears, and i

couldn't speak a word. >> reporter: she came to the united states on a student visa a year and a half ago. she would like nothing more than to go home to see her family but she knows for now that is not going to happen. >> right now, i cannot think of going back home because what will i do if i'm there? >> reporter: she hopes people will pray for her country and donate to help the thousands of people just like her family, with their basic needs, as they try to put their lives back together. >> they need your help. they need your support. they need your blessings. >> a fund-raiser is planned for next weekend, she said she is planning to send the money she would have spent on airfare back home. they need that money for food, clothing and blankets. back to you. >> earlier tonight people came to the reflecting pool to pray for the victims. you could see a lot of local families with ties to nepal

holding flags to their homeland. they told us they are stunned from the images coming out of the area and promising to lend financial support to the survivors back home. >> we from nepal are coming together to show solidarity have lives that have been lost and really remember you know come together for our country. >> the vigil was organized by the washington nepal forum, an all-volunteer organization based here in d.c. a search and rescue team from fairfax county is on its way to nepal. they flew out around noon and should arrive a few hours from now. they're specially trained to deal with structural collapses. they'll be on the ground searching for survivors and trying to help any way they can. stay with news 4 for continuing coverage of the situation in nepal. we'll keep you up to date and send you breaking news alerts on our nbc washington app. right now, freddie gray's family and preparing to hold his funeral tomorrow.

tonight the white house sent word that head of president obama's initiative for minority males will attend. gray died last week after being injured in police custody. the protests were peaceful until last night. baltimore police plan to put more officers on the street this week. [ horn honks ] >> reporter: honks for freddie gray as mourners attend the man's wake in north baltimore. >> i'm sorry for their loss and i will have them in my prayers continually. >> reporter: the small group of protesters on a sunny sunday is a stark contrast to the violence that broke out in baltimore city streets saturday night after a peaceful protest. glass door fronts smashed. cars damaged. objects, hurled at police officers. >> many of the people who weren't from our community were in essence trying to hijack the raw emotions of some of those who live in baltimore.

>> reporter: mayor stephanie rawlings blake says outsiders incited the shut the city down message. she said some baltimore natives worked with police to stop the destruction. >> they were saying very clearly that this violence and this the destruction, did not represent baltimore. >> reporter: what does represent baltimore is change according to congressman elijah cummings. he said a stronger baltimore and a model police department will emerge. >> a new normal which shouldn't be a new normal but it will be, for when somebody hollers out and screams for medical assistance, that they get it. >> that's right. >> even if they're being arrested. >> gray's family has asked for protests to stop as they prepare to lay him to rest. >> we need the whole city of baltimore to say a prayer for the family. they're going to need it. new at 11 baltimore police

caused a stir saturday when they sent a tweet suggesting the violent protesters were from out of town. a lot of people on social media accused of department of jumping to conclusions. so news 4 did some digging to find out if they were right. we analyzed the documents which show 34 people were arrested and the vast majority of them are from baltimore. one person is from d.c. they're all facing various charges from assaulting a police officer to disorderly conduct and destruction of property. in annapolis, another group rallied in support of law enforcement. they carried signs that said blue lives matter. and people honked their horns and clapped as about 100 marchers walked by. a group called united for blue organized the march and said it's trying to rally support for law enforcement. they're also using education to unite officers with the communities they actually patrol. here in d.c. a man is in critical condition after being

shot multiple times. it happened about 6:00 tonight, a couple of blocks from the university. it's been nearly 24 hours since a man of thewas murdered in northwest. this incident happened in the tacoma neighborhood. someone shot darryn conte and another man near 4th and butter net streets. conte died but the other man is expected to survive. a fire truck overturned and now seven firefighters are recovering at home. this is a picture. the truck was heading to a fire when it swerved to avoid hitting a car. it hit a telephone pole and flipped over. all the firefighters had to go to the hospital. >> right now, take a live look at some current temperatures. some of you are down into the 40s. what does this mean for tomorrow morning? >> well chris, it's going to be a chilly start tomorrow morning. you'll definitely want to grab

middle of a psychotic episode. >> we're learning startling new details about a recent cyber attack on the white house. "the new york times" report when is russian hackers got into an archive system in october, they were able to access some of president obama's old e-mails. the hackers only saw unclassified communications but that doesn't tell the whole story because even those files can contain sensitive information, like the president's schedule. mr. obama's personal e-mail account was not breached. on tuesday the supreme court will hear arguments on whether state bans on gay marriage are constitutional. earlier tonight, people of all different faiths came together in arlington at a synagog to embrace the lgbt community. faith leaders invited people to sign a banner with the names of friends and loved ones who could be affected by the court's decision. on tuesday they plan to carry that banner to the steps of the supreme court. well this one got a lot of you talking on our facebook

overturned and burst into flames, shutting down a highway near los angeles and people saw the fireball from miles away. repair crews will have to inspect the road before it can re-open. this gopro video shows the waters off the coast of alabama. this boat was part of a regatta. at least two people are dead and five others are still missing, although these people are okay. the coast guard said not all of the victims were participating in the regatta, a sailor on the boat said some waves were as high as 14 feet. investigators have a lot of questions about a puzzling case in prince george's county. they're trying to identify a body found inside a burning car. a grounds keeper saw the car this morning at the enterprise golf course in buoy. as derrick ward discovered the fire was so intense, it's

difficult to identify the car and the victim. >> a scorched section of the green, just off the fairway. ground zero for a mystery. police are calling it a suspicious death investigation. >> we're asking if you're missing a loved one, if you know anything about this case to contact as soon as you can about it. >> started to unfold when a grounds keeper came upon a burning car, he dialed 911. >> when police and fire personnel arrived on the scene, they discovered a burning car, but also a body associated with the burning car. >> reporter: police say the car was so thorly burned that the usual identifiers had melted away. they couldn't even tell what kind of car it was. the body inside burned beyond recognition. the scene stands in stark contrast to the pastoral settings here. it's not the kind of place you stumble upon. >> this mansion was built in the late 30s by a former naval captain who served on the enterprise. hence the name of the root that gets you here.

these days it's a popular spot for events. >> there was a wedding here before the grisly discovers was made. investigators don't think there was a connection. the police tape was reason for pause for some golfers. >> seems like a sign of the times. >> never heard of any problems out here. so i don't think it's a reflection of the golf course or the area it's just one of those things that happens. >> reporter: with only silent witnesses to what might have happened, investigators will rely on what's left of the burned out car. hotel guests heard several loud booms in the middle of the night. smoke and flames from a fire that started on the first floor. a group of air force cadets were visiting from new york and helped evacuate every guests. but almost everyone lost what was in their rooms.
