cvs that burned down. despite fears of a repeat of monday things were relatively calm overnight. the night didn't start that way though. police argued at least 14 people for looting and curfew violations. now, it took tear gas and pepper balls to get many people inside. now citizens are outside again. some of them continuing their work to fix up the city. people heading back to work. kids going back to school today. baltimore police expected to give us an update on the city's protests at noon. we'll be watching what happens before that curfew starts up again at 10:00 tonight. we are watching the weather for you as well before you leave for work. it's a forecast you are going to want to hear as you look live at the national harbor. we're starting off with fairly mild conditions and it's only getting better. storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein has your weather headlines. good morning, tom. >> #wonderful wednesday, beautiful day underway. cantaloupe sky. the eastern horizon, live view, storm team 4 tower camera. temperatures are cool. just in the 40s.

work day for people and they're out and about and on the move. the curfew ended an hour ago. we started to hear the sound of drilling and we saw men working to build up the burned out cvs. all of this coming after a mostly quiet night in this community. some arrests including four people that we found cuffed at this intersection for breaking curfew. now, police hauled them away in a van. i did have a chance to talk to a young woman this morning, cynthia williams who says she is now forced to catch the bus to work instead of the train. >> so we're going to get it back to order. that's -- we want to get it back to order. that's what we need, order. because people still got -- people got bills to pay. still lives that we have to live. >> reporter: now, as you can see, the national guard troops police are still out in this community. right behind me but no problems

this morning in this community as the curfew ended about an hour ago. as you said later today, this afternoon, we'll get an update from the police commissioner. >> molette green, thank you. and we have learned the baltimore orioles made a big change in reaction to the protests here. the o's will play the next series in tampa bay instead of at home as originally scheduled. today they're playing in front of the empty stadium or inside an empty stadium. the game is closed to fans today. the first ever mlb game with zero fans in the stands. and there is a new campaign online to help rebuild baltimore. the governor larry hogan launching maryland unites.org. it's a one stop shop for information and resources on how you can donate and volunteer time. an architecture firm from indiana offering to help start the process to rebuild a senior center that was burned down as it was under construction. that center -- we understand is going to be the focus of some of the company's efforts.

police are not sure if the fire there was connected though to the riots. 6:05 now. today in d.c. the group d.c. ferguson will rally in support for freddie gray. the rally will start at 7:00 tonight at the gallery place chinatown metro station. the group will march to the white house. there was a protest in the same area last night. demonstrators shut down traffic on seventh street northwest in front of the verizon center during the evening rush. you can get up to the minute information on the state of emergency in baltimore. go to the nbc washington app on your phone and search baltimore riots. there you will find a time line of events and overnight developments. right now, d.c. police looking for a hit and run driver. they say the person hit a woman on southern avenue southeast. that crash happened outside the united medical center. we're working to find out whether that road is still shut down. a deaf man's lawsuit against arlington county sheriff can move forward. a federal judge in alexandria made that ruling.

abreham zemedagegehu sued after he was jailed for six weeks without the ability to communicate. he was arrested and accused of stealing an ipad. the owner later found the ipad. both the sheriff's department and the state department of corrections asked to be dismissed from that lawsuit. the judge ruled that the state is off the hook but the suit will proceed against the sheriff. new money problems for metro. while some -- why some say proposed cuts can put your safety at risk. >> a pleasant start to your morning as we look outside the studios in northwest washington. storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal has your what to wear forecast. plus, tracking the developments out of baltimore as the city gets back to work after riots there. this is a live look outside that cvs store that became sort of a center point of the conflict

you're watching "news4 today." >> it could be late summer before the silver spring transit center opens its doors. the person overseeing the project says repairs to the building are now expected to be complete late next month or june. the building will then be handed over to metro. metro has up to 60 days to accept the building and train its employees. that puts the opening some time in august. the transit center has been perpetual perpetually delayed. and the house committee that oversees the agency released a plan yesterday to cut the federal funding in half to $75 million. metro has to demonstrate what it's doing to fix problems before getting that money. a committee spokesperson says the goal here is to force metro

welcome back. 6:15. developing in baltimore right now, people are heading back to work and for the first time this week kids are going back to school today. protests caused police and national guardsmen to use tear gas as the first curfew took effect there last night. that curfew ended about an hour and a half ago. police still have a major presence on the streets right now.

ray lewis wants to do his part to help calm the tensions in baltimore. >> young kids, you've got to understand something. get off the streets! violence is not the answer. >> we first showed you this video yesterday. he was trying to encourage young people to get off the streets as you heard there. this morning we're learning lies which has decided not to -- lewis has decided not to be part of the espn's broadcast of the nfl draft this week. "the baltimore sun" says he'll stay in baltimore and try to encourage young people to protest peacefully. lewis played for the baltimore ravens for 17 years. a developing story this morning. the death toll from the earthquake in nepal now stands at more than 5,000 people. rescue crews are working around the clock now. this morning we are hearing about a man who survived underneath rubble in nepal for 82 hours. three days plus. he said he kept banging on that

rubble hoping somebody would hear him and rescuers did hear him last night. he survived under a collapsed hotel surrounded by bodies. he said he had to drink his own your on the survive. and the urban search and rescue team is is on the ground. the magnitude 7.8 quake an strong aftershocks again kill more than 5,000 people since saturday. the quake is affecting more than 8 million people. many of them in desperate need of food and shelter. police say alcohol played a factor in a car crash that killed a volunteer firefighter in charles county. maryland state police say a driver crossed the center line on route 425 south of tims lane last night. the driver hit 20-year-old autumn jenkins head on. she died on the scene. jenkins was a five-year firefighter and emt member. police say alcohol did play a

role in that crash. anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to come forward. it is now 6:18 today. a tow truck driver plans to sue the driver who hit him. gloria allred will announce that suit this afternoon. hakem najid died after he was hit on the outer loop near tyson's corner in december of last year. the lawsuit alleges that he violated the move over law. a mentally ill woman died accidentally in the fairfax county jail. that is the ruling from the state medical examiner. natasha mckenna died this past february. the medical examiner says her cause of death was excited delirium associated with physical restraint and the use of a stun gun. schizophrenia and bipolar disorder listed as contributing factors too. a report of that understand dent reveals fairfax county sheriff's deputies shocked mckenna four times while she was restrained. she died five days later.

you can hear the first interview from a man hit by an arizona police cruiser. this video shows that cruiser hitting the man. police defended the move saying they needed to end his day long crime spree. mario valencia spent two days in the hospital after being hit by the cruiser. he says he doesn't even remember it. >> do you remember anything that happened to you on thursday? >> honestly, i don't even know how i got ended up in here. >> the officer driving the car says he hit him to prevent him from going to the nearby businesses. 6:19 your time now. hillary clinton will soon will have some competition in the race to become the next president. bernie sanders will announce tomorrow he's running for the democratic nomination. sanders is an outspoken independent from vermont. he says he wants to be a voice for working families as president. he's likely to appeal to voters

on. outer loop at wisconsin avenue, because we have got an couple of reports of a problem there. 66 eastbound, live picture this morning. showing just a little bit of volume. nothing happening. that normal volume headed into town. you can see 395 headed into town and 66 headed into town also a little bit slow. taking a look at 95 in virginia. slowest spot is dale city going 21 miles per hour as you're headed northbound there. prince george's county no major problems there right now. and 95 in maryland w.b. parkway and 29 looking good at this point. chopper 4 should be over that crash in wisconsin in ten minutes. here is something to consider before you go for a run on a smoggy day or buy a house near a busy highway. nearly half of americans are living in communities where the air can be dangerous to breathe. that's according to the american lung association. we checked and even though the

d.c. area didn't make the top ten most ozone polluted cities, we didn't do so well either. most of the counties failed. one of the biggest beer companies is apologizing for a new tag line. look at this bud light label. it says the perfect beer for removing no from your vocabulary for the night. critics say that phrase raised concerns about alcohol fueled rape culture. the brewer said it intended the label to be a fun way of invoking its own on going up for whatever advertising campaign. anheuser-busch tweeted out this apologize, we missed the mark on the new bud light bottle and we regret it. we know a lot of you are ready to rock the red this week. the caps are heading to round two of the stanley cup playoffs. they'll play the new york rangers, the team is holding practice today at ket her. the first game is tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. game two is saturday at 12:30.

clean-up efforts under way in baltimore today in the same location. officers fired tear gas at protesters less than 12 hours ago. the curfew in the city is now over. we watched some people being arrested for violating that before 5:00 a.m. officers arrested 14 people overnight. the police commissioner will give us an update on the numbers at noon. baltimore just tweeted that schools will be open today for the first time this week. we received confirmation the orioles will play without a crowd for the first time in major league history. they decided to close the stadium to fans today because of the protests. take a look at this we want to show you the cover of "the baltimore sun." the local people paper there, tweeted just after midnight. you can see the headline reads unsettled peace. we'll have much more from baltimore in about 15 minutes.

the state police say they set fire to the vacant elementary school last january. no one was hurt in the fire but the 100-year-old building was completely destroyed. investigators said tips from people who live in that area helped solve the case. today a judge can rule on a lawsuit brought against the loudoun county school board. a parent said that the school system concealed information that should be made public. that includes employee salaries and e-mails that have to do with student performance. the school system says it provided a tull information -- all the information the parent requested. students at the university of maryland college park will see the movie "american sniper." the screening was cancelled last week because the muslim student association said the movie is anti-muslim. students who were not happy with the decision posted racist messages on social media. after a long discussion about the first amendment, it will be shown on monday. it is now 6:36. new this morning we're learning

cvs right here at this corner and now we also ran into four people who were sitting on the street in handcuffs, just about an hour before the curfew was lifted. they were arrested for violating the curfew here. early this morning, i talked to cynthia williams who was frustrated about having to catch an early bus to get to work today. normally you catch the subway, but that's not doing to happen today. >> no. it's not. because the train's closed. and that's an inconvenience, so i have to wait for the bus. then i had just missed one. >> reporter: behind me you can see police still here, very present. very visible in this community. as they try to return to a sense of normalcy here. later this morning we expect to get an update from the police commissioner about how it went.

we're still working to learn how badly the woman was hurt. a judge ruled a deaf man's lawsuit against arlington county's sheriff can go forward. abreham zemedagegehu sued after he was jailed for six weeks without the ability to communicate. he was arrested and accused is of stealing an ipad. both the sheriff's department and the state department of corrections asked to be dismissed from the lawsuit. the judge ruled that the state is off the hook but the suit will proceed against the sheriff. i'm kristin wright at the live desk. four days after the devastating earthquake in nepal, help is arriving to people in dire need. they are getting food they are medicine. this first delivery of aid is going to survivors near the epicenter of the quake. it will take time though. see how desperate they are. they're getting water there. it will take time for help to reach people in remote areas. people left waiting are
