morning. a couple found dead at their rockville home on mother's day. montgomery county police are investigating why someone could kill the vilardos. megan mcgrath has more. good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, aaron. if you look behind me here, you can see that police tape still stretches across the front yard of this home on ridge drive. family members say they're heartbroken and they just don't know what happened. relatives had plans to meet dick and jodi vilardo on mother's day. when they didn't show family members came to their house and that's when the grim discovery was made. dick vilardo was found outside the back of the house and jodi vilardo was found inside. both were suffering from trauma to the upper body. the vilardos were a warm and loving couple. we know of no one who would want to harm them who would want to harm them. the vilardos were known for

their work with the children's inn at nih, that's a for sick children participating in clinical trials. police are investigating this as a double murder but they have not said whether they believe the couple was targeted or if this is a random crime. no word on any suspects or arrests at this point. back to you in the studio. >> megan mcgrath live in rockville, thank you. new this morning, bladensburg road in northeast d.c. is back open right now. police closed it for a shooting investigation. someone shot two men between migs place and mountle of avet road. both are expected to be okay. this morning, d.c. police are looking for a man who abducted and tried to sexually assault a woman in the district. the woman entered a car with an uber decal on the window early yesterday morning and then the driver tried to assault the woman before she escaped. it up happened near 11th street

and g street. we're working to find out how a toddler is doing after falling out of a window. this happened at a townhouse on brinkley station drive in oxon hill. the toddler fell from a second story window. a report from the baltimore sun says jails in baltimore refused thousands of people because sometimes -- because of sometimes serious injuries. they turned about 2,600 people over the last three years. the people in the jails turned -- the people the jails turned away had high blood pressure head injuries and broken bones among other things. freddie gray's death deadly injury while in baltimore police custody led to protests riots and a concert called rally for peace. prince asked attendees to wear gray there in honor of freddie gray. >> kudos to prince for doing this. and making this something that's very positive for the community, for them or the continue to

this apartment overwhelmed with flames. that fire trapped a pay by girl and four other people -- baby girl and four others on the balconies. they were pulled to safety. funeral services are now set for a d.c. firefighter who died on the job. lieutenant kevin mcrae will be buried this friday. he collapsed during a call to 7th street northwest last week. several d.c. leaders and firefighters will join mcrae's friends and family at the d.c. armory. there's a public viewing before the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. four people charged in connection with the deaths of two mississippi officers are expected to appear in court. last night, first responders and community leaders honored the memory of two officers from hattiesburg killed in the line of duty. the town's mayor says they were shot and killed during a traffic stop saturday night. >> this is a time for us to pull together. a time for us to love on each other. be the family members of our community. >> a man and woman face charges

of two counts of capital murder. two other suspects face lesser charges. this morning police are what led to the shooting death of a police officer and his son in minnesota. investigators say the officers' other son turned himself into custody. the shooting happened saturday night at a home outside of minneapolis. investigators say this appears to be a domestic dispute. they're not searching for any other suspects. well, news4 your health about your elderly family's safety. >> more are falling and the center says about 25,000 people aged 65 and older died from falls two years ago that's more than half of all accidents -- accident related deaths among the elderly. this next story makes sense. the more active your daily commute is, the more weight you'll lose. move your body. british researchers followed those who usually drive to work,

injured more than 260 others. he was convicted on 30 federal charges in those 2013 bombings. his lawyers are expected to call their last witness today. a former toronto mayor rob ford will have cancer surgery today. he had to drop out of his re-election race last year after being diagnosed with soft tissue cancer. he is undergoing surgery to remove a tumor into his abdomen. the former mayor got a lot of attention after an outburst at a city council meeting and abusing drugs and alcohol. 123450 state farm says rain not snow causes most car crashes. rain makes up more than half of all accidents that happen in bad weather. snow and sleet account for 17%. fog was the cause for 3% of weather related crashes. well two of our areas most prominent female leaders are being honored among those at a gala tonight for women making history.

nbc's tracie potts on capitol hill with a look at how lawmakers and military leaders are looking to stem this problem. >> good morning. they can't really agree on what's the best approach. do you approach or attack isis in iraq and syria and try to defeat them there? do you rely on the muslim community here to make the inroads that the government can't? or do you raise security as we have seen now with 3,000 military bases around the country? state and local police, do they need to help keep an eye on what is believed to be thousands of isis followers, sympathizers in this country compared to the hundreds that the fbi is tracking and now they're revamping that list to make sure they're watching the most dangerous potential terrorists who could be in this country. now, the fbi is keeping an eye on them but again, there's difficulty here on capitol hill determining how to fight them. we do know that the security clearance or security i should say at these 3,000 bases have been raised not because of any

"d" street and indiana avenue from third to sixth streets will close at 6:00 a.m. that service begins at 11:00 a.m.

from a zoo in wisconsin. one baby kangaroo with was ripped from its mother's pouch. >> dwarf goats and a kangaroo is missing. they were taken from the special memories zoo south of green bay. here's the video of those cute little animals. >> a zookeeper said someone had to remove the animals. >> what they're doing, an injured mom. >> zookeepers say these young animals depend on their mothers. the animals will die if they're not cared for correctly. the zookeepers say the building was not locked at the time. a new racetrack could be coming to spotsylvania county by next year. according to "the free lance-star," you can visit the dominion raceway by next april. crews will build the track along i-95 there and it's expected to cost $16 million. today leaders will visit outdoor pools in the district to make sure they're safe and ready before the opening of the summer

overall. i have to tell you this humidity i feel it here in the studio. so this is a day where we have hair spray in each hand and the boys have their masks on. because they know we're about to spray. >> i'm not allowed to turn up the a.c. in here. >> yes, you are. that is not true. i let you turn it -- >> it does get cold in here. well, self-driving cars are getting into accidents in california. four automated cars have been in crashes since september according to the state's department of motor vehicles that's when the state started to allow them on the road. google and delphi operate the cars. they say the accidents were minor and the cars were not at fault. 5:53, big changes could be on the way for uber and that could mean big bucks. landon dowdy has more on that.

good morning. >> hey, that's right, good morning. uber could be running around with a lot of cash in the trunk. they plan to raise funds from investors that could value it at more than $50 billion. that would make it the most valuable tech start-up ever topping facebook before its ipo in 2012. and the uaw is reportedly considering a plan to encourage the big three automakers to add thousands of positions traditionally held by parts suppliers. it would help boost the union's membership, but there's catch. the new jobs would be for low skilled workers who wouldn't be on the assembly line and would be paid less than other union members. the uaw is holding contract talks with ford gm and chrysler this summer. eun, back over to you. >> thanks landon dowdy. well, if you like to bank online and frequently use your debit card, you might switch to a high yield checking account.

20 checking accounts offered by american banks and credit unions yield 2% or more. 2% return on a $25,000 balance is 500 bucks a year. you usually have to pay the bills online, use direct deposit and make at least ten debit card transactions a month. apparently millennials are twice as likely to challenge the cost on their medical bills. this is according to price waterhouse coopers. 19% of those aged between 19 and 34 have asked for a discount on medical care. that's compared to 8% of the general population. the report finds that millennials are twice as likely to ask for cheaper treatment options. schools in d.c. maryland and virginia are all on a list of the most underrated colleges in the country. buzzfeed put out the list based on imnput from the leaders. melissa mollet's alma mater placed third. howard university came in 18th

in rockville where a couple was found dead in their home. what police are telling us about the crime that has people in that community nervous this morning. but first, what's left of tropical storm ana is nowhere near us this morning but you'll be feeling the effects when you step outside this morning. it is feeling humid out there. storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein is here now with your bus stop forecast. good morning. >> yeah, the depression is sitting over eastern north carolina but giving us a southeast flow. waiting for the bus and in metro this morning, you'll notice it's going to be quite humid. temperatures in the mid 60s between 7:00 and 8:00 and steamy and temperatures around 70 with a little bit of sunshine coming and going for much of the morning. there you see it the circulation of tropical depression ana. thunder and lightning east of nor folk and around the outer banks. that's passing well to our south and east later today. but the northern neck southern maryland eastern shore may get clipped by this. with some showers and maybe some

thunder and lightning. there's a weak front way out here in west virginia. that's going to be moving in to the shenandoah valley. that'll be moving in later this afternoon. metro area we're in between both of those systems. temperatures right now, metro area a steamy 70 degrees in washington and our nearby suburbs. that's dew on the windshields and 70s in montgomery county and much of fairfax county in the upper 60s. the good news for the pollen sufferers, the count has dropped dramatically since last week. in fact it's about half of what it was last week. it's still considered in the high range though. now mostly mulberry. much of the oak tree pollen has begun to dissipate and drop. next weather and traffic on the 1s coming up at 6:11. the hour by hour timing on some of the showers later this afternoon. now melissa is looking at slowdowns on 270. >> of course as soon as tom and i look at the camera and said, we said where is this, 270 at a old hundred road, and as soon as

he starts talking, the backups go away. so start talking. that would be wonderful this morning. 66 west bound, no problems there. and head eastbound to show us a little bit of volume there coming into town. wide look at things overall, beltway is actually looking pretty good. inner and outer loop. we have a slow down here at 295 as you're passing 50 here. that is pretty typical for this time of the morning. it's the only red i'm seeing right now. as we widen back out a little bit, 29, 95 and b.w. parkway northbound and southbound everybody is behaving themselves there. 95 in virginia slow here north would be as you approach dale city. back with travel times in ten minutes. >> thank you, melissa. a
