right now in texas and arkansas, the severity of storms last night becoming clear. at least 10 people unaccounted for and three confirmed dead at this hour. i'm aaron gilchrist with the problems still facing people in that area. >> severe weather will be focused again across parts of the midwest for today but we'll deal with our own chances for rain maybe a few rumbles of thunder before today is done. we'll time out your best chances of getting wet. with the chaos on metro this morning, people giving up on catching a train and deciding to walk into the city. news 4 east kristen wright is live with what happened and where things stand right now.

kristen, good morning. >> reporter: large crowds at the rosalyn station this morning. this is one of the shuttle buses trying to get people where they're going. shuttle buses throughout the morning. i talked to a woman here in this line getting on the shuttle bus to foggy bottom who says she has been dealing with this for over two hours. it's been a long morning for everybody here. major delays this morning. we met a lot of frustrated riders who can't get where they're going. the orange blue and silver lines are suspended between foggy bottom and arlington cemetery and foggy boss tom and clarendon. metro tells me there was no fire just smoke. also from metro, no passengers were in darchger near the problem. huge crowds trying to get on shuttle buses and figure out which ones are going exactly where. i'm hearing from people it's difficult to get information at times.

adding to the delays today. blue and silver lines are single tracking between edison road and stadium armory for an unrelated problem. metro tells us that maintenance crews are working on the situation right now but they can not give us an idea of just how long people are going to be waiting. barbara, back to you. breaking news just into the newsroom. a fatal police shooting overnight in prince george's county. we're being told a sheriff's deputy was involved in the shooting in the 900 block inally road just down the street from fedex field. more information as we get it. back to you. we're following a developing story in montgomery county. police are trying to solve a mystery behind who killed this couple. it happened at their home on ridge drive. megan mcgrath spoke with the couple's neighbor this is

morning and joins us live with how the community is reacting. megan, good morning. >> good morning, barbara. investigators returned to the house on ridge drive just a little over an hour ago and they are actually still inside. neighbors say they can't believe it. they say dick and jodi velardo were well known and well liked and some are nervous about the fact that no arrests have been made. okay we apparently are having problems with that tape, but this began to unfold over the weekend the weekend. when the children's parents didn't show up as planned and the family members were unable to get ahold of them that's when the concern was raised. family members came here to the home you see behind me on ridge

drive. that's when they made the grim discovery, dick and jodi were found dead at the home. we're told by police that dick velardo was found slightly backside and that jodi was actually found inside the home. all police are saying is that they were suffering from trauma to the upper body. no information about motive. we don't know if they were targeted or weather that was a random act of violence. no information about suspects. so still active. they are inside continuing to collect physical evidence we are hoping to learn more as the day progresses as you would imagine, people in this neighborhood nervous about what happened. a developing story now to our south.

way of severe weather around here. this show you storm team 4 radar and give you an idea of futurecast when the rain moves in and out of your neighborhood. >> thank you, chuck. several charities will benefit from prince's big rally for peace concert in baltimore. prince played the royal farms arena in baltimore. the concert drew thousands of people. many attendees wore gray to honor freddie gray who died in police custody last month. and gray's death sparked protests in baltimore you'll remember now. six police officers are facing charges because of his death. according to prosecutors, the officers didn't buckle gray into a police van which led to the spinal injury that killed him. the baltimore "sun" says an investigation revealed several nearby police departments use vans without any seat belts. the "sun" says howard and anne arundel county police are on that list. both departments told the paper suspects have strapped in the vans -- they are strapped. howard police said it's considering adding belts or

padded safety bars to its vans. don't be surprise if the phrase "reopening day" is trending on twitter later today. orioles fans are using it to rally the city ahead of the orioles game. the orioles will play at camden yards for the first time since the violent protests in baltimore ended. the last time the orioles played, the team beat the white sox without any fans in the stand. that was back on april 29. the orioles take on the toronto blue jays tonight. >> at the live desk, i want to show you a problem on the inner loop of the beltway. right now we have a dump truck that has overturned. we have the three right lanes blocked. looks like one may have just reopened in the last second here. two left lanes getting by. no doubt, this is going to take time to clean up again.

aaron. tonight the wizards are playing in a game that could put them aahead in their playoff series. the team playing the atlanta hawks as the verizon center. the wiz could give themselves a 3-1 series lead with a win. if they lose it's tied up at that point. the caps fell into a tie in their playoff series too, now they're headed to a crucial game seven in new york. they're playing the rangers this wednesday. captain alex ovechkin already predicting the caps will win that game. if they do it will be their first visit to the playoffs third round in 17 years. as they say, go caps. unexpected and terrifying. singers tumble to the ground as a stage collapses under them and it's all caught on camera. plus it was once the king of all reality shows. the final season of the popular

it looks like "american idol" is coming to an end. fox confirmed it's cancelling the show at 15 years on the air. idol launched the careers of kelly clarkson carrie underwood and, of course ryan seacrest too. now, this is just one ax in what's known as up front week networks announcing whether they're keeping or cancelling different washington post" put up the list of everything coming back or going away. you can see some of the nbc shows here for example. we learned the blacklist and the voice as well as "law and order svu" are coming back next year. in less than an hour, a community in mississippi will gather to honor two police officers killed in the line of duty. last night, a group of first responders held a candlelight vigil in hattiesburg. they offered prayers and support for the officers' families. also today, four people charged in connection with the deaths of the officers will make their first appearance in court. the town's mayor says the officers were shot and killed during a traffic stop on saturday night. the officers pulled over a car for speeding. >> called for backup. as he called for backup the assailant actually entered the car and started shooting. >> a man and woman face charges of two counts of capital murder. two other suspects face lesser charges. starting today, if you take the fredericksburg line on vre, you'll wait longer for your

train. you'll see delays between 30 and 45 minutes in each direction through may 21. after the 21st delays will be 10 to 20 minutes. vre is building a third track between db.c. and richmond. csx will do upgrades throughout the month. we have a mostly cloudy skies overhead and what's left of tropical storm ana now down across parts of southeastern virginia northeastern parts of north carolina and the clouds that you see outside here in the moat roe metro, those are the outer edge clouds related to that storm. no rain in the metro area just yet. you can see clouds are moving from east to northwest, an unusual movement of clouds. as far as rain chances, there are a few showers already. these showers are coming northbound up the bay so they'll reach up towards edgewater and annapolis here over the next little while. eventually our rain chances in the metro will go up as well.

i'm melissa mollet at the live desk. breaking news we want to update you on this deputy-involved shooting in landover from last night. this was at 10:00 last night. apparently prince george's deputies got a call for a domestic violence incident. they found the suspect related to this incident in the 900 block inaof naally road. two deputies killed the suspect after he fierped at their car. one deputy we understand has been on the job for five years, the other for six years, both of them on administrative leave pending this investigation, that area right near fedex field. prosecutors in boston in the marathon bombing trial rl calling rebuttal witnesses. the defense rested its case less than an hour ago.

lawyers for dzhokhar tsarnaev called more than 40 witnesses during this penalty phase of the trial. after closing arguments jurors will decide whether tsarnaev should spend the rest of his life in prison or be executed for those attacks that happened in 2013. three people died more than 260 were hurt. right now, the 36th annual washington-area law enforcement memorial service is going on here in the district. this is part of national police week. officials are honoring two law enforcement officers from our area who died on duty. now, because of this service, d street and indiana from 3rd to 6th streets northwest are closed until 2:00 this afternoon. police week started with a motorcycle ride. you can see here dozens of officers and supporters participated in the 20th annual law ride yesterday. they road from rfk stadium to the national law enforcement officers' memorial and a lot of them told us they're remembering their own colleagues who died. >> we get an opportunity for the family the law enforcement family, to come together again, we see a lot of old friends and

meet new friends. >> this week there will also be a bike ride, a wreath laying and a candlelight vigil to honor fallen officers. >> we now know when a d.c. firefighter who died on duty will be laid to rest. lieutenant kevin mcrae's funeral is on friday. he collapsed during a call to 7th street northwest last week. several d.c. leaders and firefighters will join mcrae's friends and family at the d.c. armory friday morning. anyone can attend his viewing at 9:00 there before the funeral service which begins at 11:00 a.m. >> good morning once again, everybody. here's the way future weather is breaking down our rain chances as we go forward through the afternoon and into this evening. rain creeping its way up across parts of southern maryland and i'm not 100% convinced futurecast has a good handle on what will be going on here. i think those showers are going to make their way into annapolis and the inner harbor of baltimore and may creep on to the eastern sides of the beltway. so those areas of green are where it will be raining but i

think those rain chances may extend farther than that. by 8:00 9:00, that cold front coming in from the west may wring out a few late evening showers or a rumble of two or thunder out west of town but on the whole rain chances are not a guarantee for everybody but they are a bit of a likelihood. on the hole we'll call it 40% chance for rain today, highs low to mid-80s. near 90 tomorrow. cooler before the weekend gets here more about that coming up. >> chuck, thank you. new today, d.c. has some of the nation's highest pre-k enrollment levels in the country. more than 75% of four-year-olds in d.c. have access according to the national institute for early education research. the group crunched the numbers for every state and found big disparities in enrollment and quality. they say family income levels and state funding are both big factors. nationwide 29% of all fourth graders are enrolled in a state-funded pre-k program. that's more than a million kids. hitting home runs may not be bryce harper's only

dead. police say it appears to be a homicide. megan mt. groth spoke to their neighbors. >> reporter: police kept watch over the crime scene through the night. investigators returned just before 10:00 a.m. to continue collecting physical evidence in the neighborhood there's a sense of unease. >> i'm concerned because two people have been murdered in our neighborhood, we don't know what happened and it's frightening. >> dick and jodi vilardo were supposed to get together with family for mothers day. when they didn't show relatives came to the house and found them dead. tamm faulkner lives in the neighborhood and received the e-mail update alerting members of the garden club to the murders. >> they told the people they were out with that they were meeting their kids at great falls, it was something they did every year and when they didn't show up at the appointed time and couldn't reach them by phone they came back here and it was the daughter, i believe, that found the family.

>> 67-year-old jody vilardo was found inside the home on ridge driver. her 65-year-old husband was found just outside the back of the house. police say both suffered trauma to the upper body. in a written statement, the family expressed their heart break saying "dick and jodiville already a doe were a warm and loving couple. we know of know one that would wish them harm. ". now to a developing story in arkansas. a young couple in their 20s died when a twister whipped through a mobile home park in -- this is in nashville. police there just announced that somehow their one-year-old baby survived. another storm nearly destroyed a town in east texas. nbc's jeff smith shows us the damage in van. >> reporter: this morning, police dogs will be searching for those ten unaccounted adults in these fields behind me. you can see all of the debris and devastation left behind after this tornado ripped through. trees completely uprooted. shingling from houses that are no longer standing littering

we are watching with the stories beginning with the news elizabeth wilson has died. she was in "the birds" and "the graduate." she won a tony award 4-3 years ago. she was 94 years old. a sad story turned into a happy one in puerto rico. this guy won a vacation to puerto rico but he couldn't take his wife and daughter. he took pictures showing what a bad time he was having so the hotel gave him a do-over where his wife and baby got to come along. they're doing a comparison if you will. the happy picture versus the sad picture. the three of them were able to create their own photo album of course with images just like that to show what a happy time they had. you have to see this video out of hong kong. a wild bore somehow got stuck inside a shopping mall. special officers had to tranquilize the boar but not

police in wisconsin are looking for a missing five-month-old kangaroo and four baby goats that vanished from a zoo south of green bay last wednesday. nbc's john yang reports on the growing mystery. >> reporter: these cute little animals -- >> there's no way for them to get out on their own. >> reporter: -- may make you want to take them home. and apparently somebody did. authorities are desperately searching for the culprits who stole five baby animals from this zoo. >> nothing like this has ever happened before. >> reporter: this red kangaroo apparently had her pouch picked of her five-month-old. >> the kangaroo needs to be with its mom where it was. it doesn't even have harriet. >> also missing, four nigerian dwarf goats only a month and a half old. the babies were bottle fed tuesday night but gone wednesday.
