nded service. there was a situation for about three hours where just platforms were crowded, stations were crowded. people had long waits on trains. it was just a very very inconvenient situation as they dealt with smoke in this tunnel and it dragged on for hours right during the height of the rush hour. we also saw some problems during the evening rush hour as well which were unrelated, so three different trouble spots at three different times during the course of the day, and the situation here at metro center happened just as the wizards game was letting out, compounding the problems here. we've got fingers crossed here. we're awaiting another update this morning from metro to find out exactly what's happening and we're going to let you know all about that as soon as we get it. everything here at metro center seems to be normal. back to you in the studio. 4:30 your time now. new information about the murders of a well-known rockville couple. the montgomery police said the

killer accessed the home through the window. police have not said whether they believe the vilardos were targeted or the victims of a random act. >> you would hate to think it was targeted but in a way it could make more sense in the situation. >> they were known for the work they had done at nih. former virginia governor bob mcdonnell heads to federal court to appeal his conviction. the hearing is expected to last about an hour. he was sentenced to two years in prison for trading political influence for gifts. a decision could take weeks.

we're getting word that two smaller ones followed. video that we've been going through this morning shows scared people in kathmandu scrambling outside. so far, we also have some damage reports, but given the destruction from april, it's going to be hard for people to tell what damage is new. this comes less than a month after a major tremor killed more than 8,000 people in nepal. it's 4:34 now. two persons of interest are being sought by d.c. police. they are calling this assault with intent to kill. a reward is being offered for information about the people in this video. lawyers for the six accused gang members on trial for killing a virginia volunteer officer. the group is charged with killing kevin quick yesterday.

one of the defendants got a list of the jurors. if convicted, all of the accused could get life in pretty much. a d.c. rabbi who secretly recorded women in a ritual bath wants community service instead of prison time. the lawyer says putting his client behind bars is not necessary. he pled guilty to 52 counts of voyeurism. he will be sentenced on friday. a big conference about keeping your community safe starts in arlington this morning, the national forum on youth violence prevention will focus on reduceing violence among kids. that forum starts at 8:00 a.m. in baltimore, there's now a program in place to help repair

4:45 is your time now. police say two men lured two girls away from school with promises of drugs and alcohol, and had sex with them. this happened last month at a hotel in route 1 in the alexanderia section of fairfax county. julio velazquez is charged with rape. a woman in the area asked us not to identify her. she says she's disturb by these allegations. >> i've never heard of this happening here in this neighborhood. i'm very upset about it and i hope something will get done about it. >> fairfax county public schools alerted the girls' parents that

police say a woman killed by a csx train in prince george's county was trying to cross the tracks. this happened yesterday morning at about 11:00 a.m. in college

toll numbers coming straight ahead. metro meltdown mayhem or metro mess we're standing by to see what you'll face this morning after a late night closure. take a look at temperatures for what could be the hottest day of the year so far. let's hand things over to tom. we're setting the stage for that. we have temperatures right now that are more like july than may and it's still kind of humid in the wake of some showers that came through overnight. now we have dried out around the metro area. no more rain around. the pavement is beginning to dry out. there's some wet pavement around where we had those showers passing through. metro area we're in the you upper 60s to near 70. near 70 in washington by the bay. mid 60s in the rural areas, near virginia and including shenandoah valley and into the mountains of west virginia. here's where it will be hottest right near washington near 90 degrees.

frederick burg cull pepper, me -- manassas too. the cooler spot will be in annapolis at 82 degrees. through the rest of the day we will have our temperatures in the morning in the 60s to low 70s for another couple of hours jumping into the 80s by noon then near 90 metro area by mid afternoon. so quite a warming today and the hottest day so far. a look at traffic early this tuesday. are we doing all right so far? overall, we're looking just fine this morning. first 4 traffic tracker is headed 95 southbound here in virginia. no problems here. everything looking quite good. flip around quite a bit to head northbound to see if we have any volume there. wide look over all, no major problems as you are t look here at the beltway. nice and green. a lot of that earlier roadwork
