outside the center right now. >> reporter: commuters on metro hoping for a much better day today and actually things are back to normal here at metro center. a little bit after 5:00 this morning, take a look at this video. they have reopened the station. they had big problems here last night. there was a power outage just as the wizards game was letting out. power outage they actually had to close down the metro center station and they had to do some repair work overnight, getting things back up and running. metro center reopened this morning, but boy, did metro have a rough day yesterday. from the beginning of the commute all the way through the evening hours, just a variety of problems at a variety of different spots, affecting the orange blue and silver lines. it was a real mess particularly in the morning. they had some issues with smoke and one of the tunnels between foggy bottom and rosalyn. they suspended service during

political influence for more than $165,000 in gifts. a decision could take weeks. montgomery county police say they know how a killer got into a well-known rockville couple's home. dick and jodi vilardo were found dead in their home on mother's day. the window latch may not have been locked. police have not said whether they believe the couple was targeted or victims of a random act. lawyers for four of the six accused gang members on trial for killing a virginia volunteer police officer asked the judge to declare a mistrial. the group is charge with killing him last february. yesterday, the fbi ago told the court that one of the defendants obtained a list of jurors. that person allegedly contacted at least one of the jurors relatives. we'll find out if the judge declares that mistrial shortly after court resumes at 8:30 this morning. doctors of a patient at the

the woers performer was the dodge journey. we are in the process of putting these results on the nabs washington page so that you can take a closer look at them. in baltimore, new challenges to the curfew that took place after violent protests last month. baltimore mayor stephanie rawlings ordered the curfew for five days. there's now a program for people in baltimore who lost homes and businesses, the u.s. small business administration is providing small interest loans. the loans are for buildings that were burned or destroyed in the protests two weeks ago. governor larry hogan is expected to sign new bills about police accountability into law today. one of the bills is about police

body cameras. it will put a group in charge of developing a policy for those cameras to deal with privacy concerns and those other sorts of issues. another bill requires police to tell the governor's office about deaths in police custody. those bills were approved before freddie gray's death and the protests last month. four dui cases in fairfax county have been thrown out because of problems with the patrol car video. it's an update to a story you saw here first. take a look at the dashcam video. an officer pulled over a man for a field sobriety test. there is no audio on the recording and the officer conducted the test off camera. the man who was pulled over said he was shocked when the officer handcuffed him last december. >> i was speaking properly. i wasn't falling, you know and i did all the field sobriety tests well. i completed them well. so basically at that point it was my word against his and i had nothing to show. >> if you are not going to utilize the equipment, then you

are effectively putting yourself as an officer at risk. >> the man's lawyer says three similar stops were conducted by the same officer and a judge threw out those cases as well. a police spokesman said while officers are urged to get video of field sobriety tests, it's not required. today, we're expected to learn whether a wisconsin police officer will face charges for shooting an unarmed man. officer matt kinney shot 19-year-old tony robinson at an apartment in march after robinson attacked him. that shooting sparked several nonviolent protests. opsy this morning on a 19-year-old who died in the back of a police transport van in indiana. that man was arrested south of indianapolis on sunday. police say a nurse saw the man after he was booked and asked officers to take him to the hospital yesterday. investigators say the man was able to walk into that van on his own but was found

unconscious when arrived at the hospital. a d.c. rabbi who secretly recorded dozens of women in a ritual bath wants community service instead of prison time. his attorney filed a motion saying putting his client in jail isn't necessary. he pled guilty to 52 counts of voyeurism. each count carries up to a year sentence. he will be sentenced on friday. we're following a developing story out of northern california right now. two men were shot and another hurt a block away from the university of california santa barbara. we're told all three are in the hospital now. police believe one of them is their suspect. right now, detectives are calling this a domestic dispute. right now, secretary of state john kerry is in russia ahead of his meeting with president vladimir putin. there is skepticism about what can come from this meeting. the state department says it's important to keep lines of

communication open with russia's senior decision maker. the number of americans who don't belong to a particular religion is growing. we're going through the results of a new survey released overnight. it found that 56 million americans don't have a specific religion. that's about 23%. just over 70% of people say they are christian. that's down from almost 80% in 2007. about 46% of americans identify as prot test tant. the owner of a colorado barbecue join is feeling the eat is feeling the heat after offering a discount to white customers only for white appreciation day. the promotion quickly went viral and a lot of people were outraged. he says everyone will get that discount. your time now on that tuesday morning. that's a live picture back

rise. this quake comes less than 3 weeks after that massive tremor that killed more than 8,100 people. we're monitoring the situation in nepal and we'll bring you an update in 15 minutes. here at home we're bracing for the hottest day of the year so far. that is our hash tag for the day. we're already seeing temperatures in the 70s here in d.c. and the temperatures are expected to quickly climb. you are already seeing the signs for a really hot day. >> it's really more like a morning in july, not in mid may as our temperatures around the metro area are hovering in the low 70s right inside the beltway and right near the bay. it's in the upper 60s. farther outside the beltway we're in the upper 60s, prince george's and the rest of fairfax, virginia many places are in the 60s, near 70 degrees. at the bus top, you'll be comfortable in the 60s and 70s between 7:00 and 8:00 and the winds will pick up between 8:00

chopper was over a crash over fairfax county parkway. it looks like that's cleared. buckey's town pike one lane blocked. it is 6:32. we're learning new details to an update for a plan to make your commute easier on 66. new tolls and more lanes could be coming to the highway between hey market and the beltway. kristen wright is on with more on the changes. >> reporter: this morning, we are finding out a little bit more. the plan has been revised and so fewer homes will be lost because of the project. right now, we're driving on interstate 66 east. we are just past the fairfax county parkway. traffic starting to pick up of course 6:30 in the morning. that's what this whole project

is about. v dot's plan to ease congestion is to widen the 25-mile stretch between the beltway and route 15 and haymarket and add toll lanes. the latest plan announced last night reduces that number to 18 at most. wtop is reporting that. from 35 to 18. v dot says they were able to make some adjustments to the project and they do say that more changes are likely and that this is just the beginning. v dot is telling us that they would like to hear from people. public hearings are scheduled for the end of may, swl the beginning of june. if you go to our website or the nbc washington app, we have those dates and locations for you. also in virginia you can expect a lot of construction on another road many of you use to get to work. take a look at this scene. this is a crew at route 28 yesterday. they kick off a series of

anxious about your commute today. metro is trying to rebound from a pretty rough day with a number of problems throughout the day yesterday. news 4 is live outside the metro center station which is back open this morning. megan. >> reporter: well, yeah a lot of people who ride metro hoping that things are going to go better today than they did yesterday, and so far it's looking good. we're here at metro center where a little after 5:00 this morning, they opened the gates and they got back to normal service. take a look at this video. this was shot a short time ago inside the metro center station. trains coming and going. people doing their normal thing and they say that everything really does appear to be back to normal here this morning. no problems to report. that however, was not the case last night. metro center was closed for a time because they had a power outage. this happened at a really terrible time just as the wizards game was letting out, so people had to detour to other stations and make other arrangements as the station was completely closed and that was just the icing on the cake of a
