we have some construction on the outer loop near b.w. parkway and the inner loop after the b.w. parkway. a bit of road work. this is the outer loop portion between landover road and one leap getting by. river road eat wilson lane, the inbound lane is partially blocked because of roadblock in the area. they have the outbound work happening last week and now the inbound work. hopefully it will wrap up soon. back in ten minutes. new this morning out of waco, texas, after nine bikers are killed in a rival gang shooting. we are hearing from the restaurant where it happened. twin peeks posting, we are horrified by the criminal violent acts that occurred outside the restaurant today. we'll continue to work with police as they investigate this terrible crime. now nine motorcycle gang members were killed and 18 others were hurt following the fight that involved guns and knives. nor than a hundred people are in -- more than a hundred people are in custody and they were

meeting to discuss turf and recruitment. back to you aaron. >> thank you. right now, fairfax county police officers trying to find at least two people they say killed a man in reston. the victor was day. and five men burst into the condo yesterday. those men got into a fight inside and someone shot and killed day. at least one other person was hurt. also right now, police need your help identifying a person of interest in a murder mystery near the vice president's house in the district. d.c. police released surveillance video of man running through a parking lot. they want to question him in connection with a quadruple homicide. on thursday, someone killed satisfy vas savopoulos, his wife amy and the housekeeper and the house was also set on fire. if you recognize the person in the video, call d.c. police. 4:32. police say a rockville man confessed to killing his long-time neighbors. he's waking up in jail in

alaska. police arrested scott tomaszewski. he's charged in the deaths of the vilardos. investigators found money with possible blood on tomaszewski's wallet at the time of his arrest and they found evidence linking him to their murder. police tracked him down while investigating a separate burglary last month. neighbors are stunned. >> to think that, you know, you know someone down the road could do something so horrific. >> montgomery county police say tomaszewski had been given access to the couple's home. they were found dead in their pajamas on mother's day. the vilardo family said quote, for the past week we have known the where, the when and the how. now we know who. and while we may never truly understand why as a result of the work of the police department and the prosecutor's office, we can take the first step on the long road to healing.

happening today, a group of people will rally in support of the purple line in maryland. they'll gather at 6:15 this morning at the new library at wayne avenue and fenton street in silver spring. a light rail stop is planned in front of the library. the protest follows maryland governor larry hogan saying the project's $2 billion price tag is unacceptable. "the washington post" reported first that hogan is reluctant to go forward because of the project's current cost. that 16-mile light rail line would connect new carrollton and bethesda. plan ahead if you're taking vre and heading south. crews will perform track work south of the fredericksburg station. you can see 45 minute delays for the next two weeks. this is all part of the project of a new track. no school in fredericksburg. the principal said there's a problem with the electrical power there. the school will post any updates on the website. well he was expected to head montgomery county schools. >> but this morning, the top

county. report of a shooting and car crash on reed street. news4's megan mcgrath is gathering information. megan? >> reporter: you can see the police activity and we have a number of road closures in the area. not a lot of information available at this point, but this is what we know so far. around 2:30 this morning, police got a call for a car crash. in the 3200 block of reed street in prince george's county. when officers went up to that car, that's when they discovered a dead person inside. not much other information being made available at this point. we do have a road closure. i'm on reed street. we have got a section of that the 3200 block is closed at this point. and there's also a larger closure on mlk, martin luther king is closed between johnson avenue and ardwick/ardmore. i spoke to police a short time ago and they believe that investigators will be out here for another hour, perhaps two hours.

so that closure will be in place for a little while. maybe during the start of this morning's rush hour. no other information about exactly who this person is who is found in this car dead early this morning, but certainly early in the investigation. back to you guys in the studio. >> megan mcgrath live for us thank you. another developing story right now. the marine corps is looking into what caused a deadly hard landing of an osprey aircraft. an eyewitness said that osprey, quote, just literally just appeared to drop out of the sky. this happened yesterday morning in hawaii. you can see dark plumes of smoke in the video of the aftermath here. one marine guydied on impact. a bus driver in georgia may pay a big fine for causing a crash after stopping on train tracks. take a look at this video here. it shows the csx train slamming into the back of a bus. it happened yesterday near atlanta. six people were hurt when they trained to get off the bus and run to safety. they are all expected to be

you're watching "news4 today." >> welcome back. 4:44. a woman remains in serious condition after jumping in front of a metro train. this happened at the silver spring metro station yesterday morning. police say she intentionally jumped on to the track. trains had to single track for several years. no delays expected this morning. firefighters say the location of a smoke alarm may have delayed its warning in a fire at a prince george's county apartment. a woman died in that fire. neighbors called 911 when smoke started filling up the hallway at an apartment building on audrey lane in oxon hill early sunday morning. firefighters found the smoke alarm located in a hallway

closet. 15 before the hour now and lawmakers are praising the special forces mission that led to the death of an isis commander in syria. the operation put u.s. troops on the ground deep inside isis territory and the raid comes as isis is claiming a huge victory in iraq. nbc's edward lawrence is live in capitol hill with more. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. that setback was the taking of ramadi that isis is now in control of. now with that setback the u.s. still had the weekend operation that was successful against the top leadership of isis. and secretary of state john kerry does say still that ramadi will be taken back in the next few weeks. ramadi is the thoseclosest city next to baghdad. residents could be seen leaving ramadi by the hundreds for fear of brutal retaliation by isis. kerry said there was not enough security forces to hold the city and the set back was a move of opportunity by isis.

on a positive note in the war as you mentioned over the weekend, continued air strikes were happening along with u.s. forces go deep in syria and killing the top money man. he was very close to their top leader. his wife was also captured. u.s. forces say that she helped manage hostages kept by isis. a dozen others died in the raid but no u.s. casualties. iraq is expected to be a 2016 campaign issue. the candidates have praised the operation that went on inside iraq or inside syria there against isis. the republicans though did say that there should have been more done to capture, not kill the top leader. reporting live in washington, edward lawrence. back to you. 4:46 now. a man in columbia heights woke up to the sound of a knife being pulled from his knife set and

found two burglars in his apartment. he asked them to leave and they did. >> i said i know you're here, get out, take whatever you want. just leave. >> and just when he thought he was safe, the burglars returned. they had forgotten a bag filled with items. >> i opened the door, threw it out and they left. >> an off duty officer at nearby giant noticed something suspicious and called it in. at least some of stolen items are back with their owners. well it's back to the drawing board for montgomery county schools as it tries to find a new superintendent. just days ago, the board of education announced its quote preferred candidate was dr. andrew houlihan from texas. a statement was released saying he no longer wants to be considered for the job. a college campus now an endangered historic site. there's a slave cemetery at sweet briar college and it's closing in august and alumni are fighting to keep it open.

preservation virginia added it to the list of the endangered locations. it's meant to save landmarks and not the school itself. hillary clinton is headed to iowa among growing criticism she doesn't take enough questions from the press. many republicans piled on with jabs at clinton this weekend in iowa. the former senior adviser david axelrod said he thinks it would be a terrible mistake if clinton doesn't open up more when she's campaigning. this is clinton's second campaign stop iniowa. you may have seen d.c. mayor muriel bowser on national television. fox news sunday named her its power player of the week. >> this schoolhouse is in order. our city is in order. our ethical house is in order. and we can take care of our own business. >> that was mayor bowser saying congressional oversight interferes with her ability to run the city. she also talked about supporting low income neighborhoods and

encouraging citywide growth. your memorial day road trip got more expensive. gas prices skyrocketing as we head toward the unofficial start of summer. the national average at $2.70. that's up four cents from last week. in virginia people are paying an average of $2.47 for regular unleaded. maryland's average is up to $2.66 right now. in west virginia $2.67 and in d.c. the average is $2.79 per gallon. if you're looking for a silver lining though, gas prices at this time last year were almost a dollar higher than they are right now. puts it all in perspective. chances are somebody will be sitting next to you if you're taking a flight. more than 220 million passengers are expected to fly within the u.s. between august and -- rather june and august. that's up 4.5% from last year. u.s. airlines are trying to meet that demand by increasing the number of available seats. the industry says the improving economy is likely responsible
