where the water comes up over the road and p witnesses said that they saw a car go down into the road into the water area and didn't necessarily see it come back out. so they called the police just to let them know that they saw a car go down there. the police have been doing a search to see if they have able to find the car. the car may have made it all the way through. nonetheless, they have got the road closed here and we've got the dive rescue team out here in case they become needed and reports are also that we're going to be using a helicopter to see if they can spot anything from the air now that we have daylight here upon us. heavy rain here late last night. this is one of places that always floods so people are very familiar with it and as a result somebody said they saw a car go down into the low spot. they may have made it out on the other side. they just don't know. they call the police and they are doing a search hopefully to find nothing. nonetheless, they are keeping a look around here for the next

little bit. more with melissa. >> other spots with some standing water and issues massachusetts avenue in here at mccomb street. you can see the right lane is completely covered. just a warning you are going to see some shots shut down because of this. this is one of them. westbound 108 at olley mill road. they are closed there because of high water. wide look overall beltway looking pretty good. prince george's county moving along quite nicely. a little bit slow here inbound indian head highway. 13th and missouri westbound lane closed because of a crash. those heavy showers that may have kept you up overnight moved out of the area but as chuck and melissa mentioned there are a number of problems lingering now. tom kierein here with more on the flood concerns and the storms you'll see later today.

>> here's the radar history over the last 12 hours. we had those heavy downpours with lots of lightning rolling right through the metro area overnight last night. it cleared the metro area. now on the eerp shore it's breaking up and clearing the atlantic beaches and the storm team 4 radar all clear around the metro area. right along the patapsco river there and prince george's county line and howard county line watch out for the high water there. here's hour by hour timing with more storms today. we'll be fine. during the afternoon, it looks like mainly in northern virginia between 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. to as late as 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. moving into southern maryland that's where most of the thunder and storm activity will be. the rest of the region much more settled. back to you. you may be delayed this morning if you are using the

argue -- arlington memory oral bridge. one of the westboundanes is temporarily closed. megan, how is this affecting traffic? >> right now, take a look for yourself here. we're seeing traffic moving across the bridge at speed, but then again volume is very light. we are just starting to see the beginning of rush hour here but we are expecting things to slow down because of this lane closure. you can see the electronic signs there, the arrows telling people to get to the left. that's because in the westbound direction, going from d.c. into virginia they have closed that right-hand curbside lane. the reason they did it concerns about a spot of corrosion that they found yesterday during just a routine inspection. we're told out of an abundance of caution, they have decided to close that right-hand lane until they can get inspectors back out here later on today, take a closer look and decide what if anything needs to be done.

we're talking about the westbound direction here. that right lane closed until further notice. this is a very busy bridge a choke point for many people when all of the lanes are open. so with one lane gone you can expect to see some traffic tie-ups. back to you in the studio. today, the man police say kill his neighbors in rockville will be in court on the other side of the country. montgomery county police picked up scott tomaszewski on a cruise ship in alaska. he confessed on saturday to killing the vilardos. we told you that police tracked him down by connecting him to a burglary and a fire at the vilardos' home back in 1998. we spoke to the officer who remembered him from the first crime. >> it seemed so familiar to me in terms of a burglary that was emotional in nature from back in 1998 when i investigated.

and i felt that it was really important. >> sergeant preis is retired from police work right now. tomaszewski was a teenager back then. investigators say he pawned items from a burglary that happened across the street from the vilardos last month. new information about the derailment from the amtrak train last month. they are looking into a grapefruit sized crash in the windshield. investigators say a projectile may have struck the train but it was not a gunshot. the ntsb says it could be a year before we find out exactly what caused the train to derail. one thing making it difficult is there's no video inside the train. it was recommended to put cameras in there five years ago.

the ntsb concluded the engineer was texting and proposed cameras five years ago in a crash in california. six minutes after the hour and today the man who used a bike rack to launch himself over a white house fence is due in d.c. superior court. jerome hunt says he didn't want to hurt anybody or end the residence when he jumped the fence back on april 19th. it was his 54th pittsburgh day and he said there's a reason why he did that. he has not shared the reason. he pled not guilty. he's been out on bail wearing a morning device. with months just left before the popular pope arrives in washington today, they are asking a zoning board to put up a perimeter fence. pope francis arrives in d.c. in late september and will

police are looking for a driver who may be in the river. brock ridge road is closed between whiskey road and brock bridge road. there is a flash flood warning in effect in that area until 6:30 this morning. chuck bell is on the scene. it is 6:16 the u.s. coast guard is working to find out how a 10-year-old girl drowned in a pool in a cruise ship.

it sailed back to port ka 1/2 ral florida yesterday. at least 170 bikers are charge in a shoot-out that killed nine people and hurt 18 others in texas. a judge set the bail at $1 million each. the bikers argued over one group's plan to include a reference to texas in the lower section of its official jacket patch. the argument started in a bathroom at a restaurant in waco spilled out to the bar and the parking lot. they are getting threats from other biker groups following this shootout. prosecutors are crying foul over how the defense attorneys are handling the freddie gray case. prosecutors want a gag order. prosecutors say defense

attorneys public remarks could influence potential jurors. they also say defense attorneys leaked court documents to the media before prosecutors could review them. freddie gray died a week after he was fatally injured during his arrest by baltimore police. it looks like some of you may be getting some money back from the state of maryland. here's what we understand happened here. the u.s. supreme court struck down one of maryland's tax laws yesterday. the court said the law led to double taxing income residents earned in other states. they may have to refund $120 million. it turns out many people double taxed live in montgomery county. this could mean more scrutiny for other maryland laws seen as zournling business across state lines. >> there are concerns that a new fee structure for the state's e-z pass program could be

unconstitutional. the fee would still be charged to out of state residents who pay tolls less than three times per month. according post state lawyers say the state could violate the state's interstate commerce laws. maryland republican business leader chris cafalas says he will run in 2016. he was once a deputy legal counsel to former mayor. he also supported gay marriage in maryland. he is running for the seat left open by u.s. senator barbara mikulski. chris roberts told the fbi he managed to hack into several jets through the inflight entertainment system and take control of the plane's engines.

boeing says that's not possible because the two systems are completely separate. roberts stands by his story saying he is just trying to bring a potential security risk to everyone's attention. >> definitely possible to manipulate the electronics through the inflight entertainment system and satellite communications to get to the avionics of an airplane. >> airbus says it's planes also have closed secure cockpit system. a recent warning says any cockpit linked to the outside work could be hacked. there is a lengthy to do list. the state public service commission voted to approve a $70 billion merger if the companies meet some conditions. d.c. has yet so sign off on the merger. you are going of to to bring some extra change to park on the street in arlington.

at 6:30 we begin with breaking news in the laurel area. >> we're learning new information about a search for a car in high water. chuck bell is live on the scene. what's happening? >> reporter: well, we were the first ones on the scene here on brock bridge road. it is still closed. over the hill here anne arundel police have the road closed. the water is still over the road. police have done a pretty thorough search over here and they have not been able to find any car in the water. they have used all the swift boat rescue teams. they have all been released now. so they are going on the

he's been charged with embezzlement and misuse of public funds. fairfax county members are raising new concerns over their interactions with county police officers. one woman said police drag her down the stairs of her home after her 11-year-old son called police saying she wouldn't let him use the internet. they have been criticized in other cases as well including the john gear shooting. this afternoon, a u.s. senator will make a case to his fellow lawmakers that police should wear body cameras. senator tim scott of south carolina testifying before the senate judiciary committee. scott says body worn cameras can restore trust as well as protect police and citizens they serve. it comes amid a national debate about police tactics and

tech a little later on today. it comes as we're learning that it could take the state department until january 2016 to review and release more than 50,000 pages of her emails. all of that is reigniting the controversy about her use of a private email account when she served as secretary of state. other mounting questions during this two-day trip to iowa including her finances. we learned she and bill netted more than $30 million over the past 16 months largely from speaking fees that they got from speaking to large corporations. a lot of questions about that as well. republicans say that raises a whole range of ethical questions. clinton campaign officials denny ethical breaches but it does raise questions about her ability to cast herself as a champion for the working class. that's a message she is selling here in iowa. she might be wealthy but her

for you this morning, you might be delayed if you use the memorial bridge. one of the westbound lanes temporarily closed now. news 4 megan mcgrath live on the bridge this morning. how are things looking right now? >> reporter: actually right now, not too bad. we still have pretty light volume going across the bridge but we have lost a westbound lane on the memorial bridge. there was a routine inspection that happened. they found an area of corrosion that caused some concern and out of an abundance of caution, they decided to close the westbound curb lane of the bridge. they are going to be out inspecting today. they are going to have some engineers take a look. make a decision as to whether or not it's okay or whether some repair work needs to be done. for the moment that curb lane headed west is closed and we don't have a timeline in terms of when it's going to reopen. that could cause some problems for folks who use the memorial bridge. back to you guys in the studio. new this morning, some news that may want you to run out the door. a new report out this morning
