him but he escaped. she told police about a tattoo on his neck that read blessed. if you know where he is, police want to hear from you. right now the search is on to find the person who killed a young mother in prince george's county and police are asking the question why? firefighters found the 21-year-old latiqua cherry dead in her burned out oxon hill apartment on sunday. prince george's county police say someone killed her before setting that fire. officers canvassed the neighborhood with flyers in search of answers yesterday. the mother of a 2-year-old died from trauma inside a third floor apartment. court documents show the victim got a stay away order against a man she was dating. the victim's mother believes he had something to do with her death. >> to think that he or whoever would betray like this, would make them want to react and do such a horrible act like this to her. >> now, police have not named a person of interest or suspect at

this point. there is a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. a traffic alert this morning. there's still no word on when the westbound lane on the arlington memorial bridge will reopen. you may face some delays if you're using the bridge today. the national park service closed the westbound lane closest to the curb more than 24 hours ago. engineers found an area of corrosion during a routine inspection. rescuers saved a woman stranded in the potomac river. look at this scene from chopper 4. montgomery county rescue crews helped the woman and at least two dogs to the virginia side of the river last night. they say the woman was hiking. we're told she and the dogs will be okay. new this morning, the central texas marketplace is back open. it is the scene of that deadly shoot-out involving rival motorcycle gangs in waco over the weekend. police say a parking dispute escalated into a gun fire inside of a restaurant. the violence spilled out side.

nine people were killed. 18 wounded. 170 bikers arrested. police this morning are still working the crime scene inside of the restaurant. so it will not be back open today. eun? >> kristin wright thanks. 5:04 is your time. the son of the late marion barry is due in court. christopher barry's trial was supposed to begin today for assault assault charges but he reached a plea deal on monday. barry threw a trash can at a downtown bank teller and threatened her. if the judge approves the plea deal it would prevent the surveillance video of the january incident from ever becoming public. also happening today, only is hosting the fourth annual ride of silence. it's to honor people killed or hurt while riding and raises awareness about sharing the road with the cyclists. that begins tonight. and in the district transportation officials plan to discuss how to make it easier to bike and walk to and from metro,

marc and vre stations. it's a study that shows more than 3,000 potential bicycle and pedestrian improvements to handle more riders. metro will update us on how it's prioritizing walk/bike access projects near the metro 91 stations. folks here in d.c. have been waiting for streetcars. we're here at third and "h" northeast. in the interim, while they're doing the test runs, d-dot officials aren't just sitting around. they'll do an informational campaign to get people ready for the streetcars once they take to the roads in earnest. later today for the morning rush from 7:00 to 9:30 d-dot officials will be here at the intersection as well as others along "h" street corridor as an -- part of an informational campaign to get people ready. to let them know what they can expect. to let them know there's new equipment out on the street. it can't change lanes or stop on a dime.

murder mystery in the district. investigators say a couple and their housekeeper were beaten and stabbed in a house not far from the vice president's residence. the couple's 10-year-old boy was burned so badly that investigators don't know how he died. investigators told news4 the security cameras around the home were disarmed. there is no surveillance video. the four people were found dead on thursday at a home along wood lawn drive in northwest. take a look this is video reported in a parking lot where the porsche was found torched. if you recognize this person, call the d.c. police. there's a $100,000 reward in this place. a man accused of murder will be in maryland next weeks. scott tomaszewski killed an elderly couple two weekends ago. in the picture, you can see him at a hearing in juneau alaska yesterday.

they say he confessed to killing dick and jody vilardo. that couple and tomaszewski lived next door to each other. the news4 i-team has learned that montgomery county school superintendent will stay on the job for another year. last week the board of education announced they had selected a top candidate to replace starr. but that candidate has now backed out. today, the board will formally ask bowers to stay on as interim superintendent for one more year. bowers had planned to retire this year. arlington taking a stance on the redskins name. a resolution was passed supporting a potential move to virginia. the resolution also called on owner dan schneider to change the team's name. the board said the word redskins is quote objectionable to many because it's considered a racial slur. next season teams will not

snap balls from the 15 yard line. it will be snapped from the 2 yard line. it's designed to make extra points more difficult. last year teams scored on 99% of the kicks. it's 5:18. news for your health now, women who have c section deliveries may face postnatal complications that's according to the study from the center for health statistics. the risk of intensive care admissions is higher among women after the first c-section. women facing multiple c-sections are at risk of unplanned hysterectomies. doctors stress for most women, c-section is safe and the risks are low. we are learning that there may be a link between hearing loss and dementia. that's according to researchers at the university of colorado. researchers say there is a portion of the brain used for hearing that can become reorganized and shrink possibly playing a role in memory loss. one in three adults over the age of 60 has reported age related

hearing problems. today in alexandria you'll be able to use the potomac yard station in 2018. julie carey says that the council wants to put it east of the potomac yard shopping center. vice president joe biden's son is being treated at walter reed army medical center. we don't know why he is in the hospital right now. he's the former attorney general of delaware. he's had medical issues in recent years including a mild stroke and surgery to remove what doctors described as a small lesion. we are working to learn more about his condition now. a major project to clean up the anacostia river is underway. they're investigating how dirty the water is. and they're mapping the toxins in the dirt and figuring out how to remedy the water.

santa barbara, california. about 21,000 gallons of crude oil spilled there. the leak came from the ruptured pipeline on shore. that pipe has since been turned off. and this morning several families could find out when they'll be able to return to their homes after a train derailment in louisiana. take a look here you can see the train that was carrying hazardous chemicals derailed outside baton rouge not far from the mississippi river. the tankers do not appear to be damaged at this point. they did evacuate the area as a precaution though. they suspect the damaged track caused it to derail. ten young people in canada are under arrest. the people wanted to travel to iraq and syria to join isis. the charps -- no-- no charges have been brought. but police are meeting with the families. almost $200 million raised for cancer patients was spent on concert tickets and lavish

government center parkway in fairfax. police at first thought it happened a it will county government center. but they soon found the crime scene. we were on the scene as technicians examined bullet holes in front of the townhouse. a white car was seen speeding following that shooting. one neighbor describes what he heard during dinner time. he asked us not to show his face. >> i was inside my house and all of a sudden i heard bang-bang. which sounded to me like it could have been gunshots. you never know for sure, but it certainly sounded like gunshots. >> the 17-year-old shot is expected to survive. police say this does not appear to be a random crime. this morning, a 54-year-old man is dead. arlington county police shot and killed alfredo rials-torres while responding to a domestic dispute. it happened yesterday at the gates of ballston apartment complex. when the officers arrived they heard screaming coming from the second story apartment unit and

police say rials-torres was fighting with his 88-year-old mother. he say he attacked the officers and police opened fire. one of the officers suffered a severe cut to his face and another hurt by a laser. and republican lawmakers are facing off against each other on whether to renew a part of a patriots acts. the part of the law expires in less than two weeks. the house passed an alternative law that restricts government searches and lets phone companies keep their data. senate republican leaders want to keep the patriot act just as it is. but a republican presidential candidate says he will filibuster. >> shouldn't be doing this. i don't want to replace it with another system. >> the senate is supposed to be on break starting monday but senators have been warned not to firm up travel plans just yet. it's 5:35. the u.s. coast guard academy class of 2015 will receive a sendoff from their commander in

chief. president obama will deliver the keynote speech. the president spoke at the academy's 2011 commencement. congratulations to all the graduates. this afternoon, the first lady and former senator elizabeth dole will honor the people who care for our service members and veterans. more than 70 caregivers will be welcomed. dole's foundation is calling them hidden heroes and highlighting the enormous responsibility the caregivers take on every day. the guests will meet with members of congress about what can be done to make sure service members and veterans have the support they need. more severe storms expected today in texas. tornadoes hurt at least one person and destroyed buildings in two small towns. the tornadoes came up under ominous black clouds. debris flew off a roof from a hotel. part of a fence hit someone in the head. university of mary washington officials have taken the first steps to finding a new president. president rick hurley is retiring at the end of june in 2016. right now, they're interviewing

it is now 5:40. a train workers union is urging amtrak to make changes to avoid another deadly crash.

the brotherhood of locomotive engineers and trainman wants a second engineer on trains. engineer brandon bostian was alone in the train when amtrak 188 derailed last week. he says he doesn't remember when the train flew off the tracks and it was traveling more than 100 miles an hour in the 50 mile zone. having a second engineer could have prevented the accident. health officials are looking for people in d.c. and fairfax county who might have had contact with a measles patient. they say the person recently returned from traveling internationally. this person visited several places while contagious between may 10th and may 16th. you can see a full list on our app. search the word measles. that patient is it of on the hospital. we're waking up to a much more comfortable morning. you can feel it really the humidity is just gone. just like that.

bogan. we're here in the 1900 block of brooks drive in forestville. police are asking for the community's help as they try to find bogan. again, this man they say is responsible for assaulting a 12-year-old girl here last week. reporting live in prince george's county i'm zachary kiesch. 13 before the hour now. a new former substitute teacher could face charges for what you see in this video. he taught at gwen park middle school in brandywine. that video shows him hitting students with a belt. a seventh grader said it started with a fight. we spoke with her with the permission of her grandmother. >> to take the action is for parents and i don't think it was his job or duty to even put his hands or beat a child for any reason. >> the prince george's county school district fired that substitute teacher. the district told us it notified child protective services and prince george's county police. for the third year, the number of heroin overdose deaths

is up in maryland. the state health department reports 578 people died from a heroin overdose. that's up 25% from 2013. maryland governor larry hogan declared it a health crisis. he signed a bill expanding access to the drug which can be used in emergencies to reverse heroin overdoses. cathy lanier says she won't make people explain why they want a permit to carry a concealed handgun. d.c. restrictions on guns outside the home are unconstitutional. and d.c. attorney general karl racine disagrees with the decision. about a hundred people have applied for permits and very few have been denied. hillary clinton is fielding direct questions now from the media for the first time in weeks. clinton trying to focus on the

middle class issues central to her campaign but she is dogged about questions about private e-mail while secretary of state. >> well they're not mine. they belong to the state department. as much as they can expedite the process, that's what i'm asking them to do. >> the state department said it would try to release the e-mail in january just as the primaries kick off. a federal judge ordered them released in patches over the coming months. her republican rivals continue to take jabs over her using private e-mail. new jersey governor chris christie called it incredible. muriel bowser is expected to make an announcement about bringing green jobs to the city. she'll be joined by the members of the epa. it will be an update on the plan to reduce sewage from polluting the rivers. holy cross health is expanding the health centers in montgomery county.
