murder of a d.c. family and their housekeeper. now police are on an all-out man hunt to find him. that started in lannan, maryland overnight. good morning. i'm aaron gilchrist. >> i'm angie goff in for eun yang. our cameras were rolling as police detectives searched wint's home high and low looking for clues. our megan mcgrath is working the story and will bring you up to speed with all the overnight developments in a few minutes. but first, some major changes in the weather this morning. the temperatures are going down. you can see on storm team 4 radar the rain is starting to come down as well. let's get right to tom kierein with what's happening right now. >> if you're about to what it the road for the memorial day weekend, traveling up 95 north and south you'll be running into rain as well as west heading out 270, out 66. and along 81 as well from hagerstown through the shenandoah valley. it is wet this morning. all this area in green is light rain. inside the beltway and right around the immediate metro area a few scattered sprinkles are beginning to show up. but the traffic tracker driving

on 95 south of washington and seeing the road getting a bit of a sheen, getting a bit wet there. as the light rain is beginning to down a little bit heavier. in the mid to upper 50s most of the metro area fairfax county right near of 60 in the district of columbia. a cool damp morning, then a warmer pattern moving in for the memorial weekend. next weather and traffic on the 1s coming up at 6:11. a look at your try time forecast. amelia segal will join us live. now melissa has chopper up over an accident. where's this? >> this is b.w. parkway, look at chopper 4 over this crash. b.w. parkway southbound here at 32. you can see it's actually still in the left lane. that explains why we have that one-mile backup this morning. and chopper sort of pans back, you can see that volume. you can take 95 i hope this is out of the way shortly here. check back with us once more on first 4 traffic on twitter to see if cleared out of the

way. another traffic camera shot southbound at 32. 270 at montrose, nice and light here. no major problems here. yesterday was nasty. today, lighter volume at least right now. 66 headed into town 40 miles per hour. and right now, 95 north in virginia at dale city, really starting to see some pretty good slowdowns. 6:02. breaking news d.c. police detectives are working around the clock looking for the man wanted for the murders of three d.c. family members and their housekeeper. take a look here. on the left new video of police searching the last known address of their suspect. his name is daron wint. his picture on the right side of your screen here. take a good look at him. police believe wint is on the run at this hour. there are three scenes linked to this crime. detectives canvassed the area around his home in lannan, maryland. less than three miles from where police found the savopoulos' family car torched.

megan mcgrath with the new dna link that helped crack this case. >> reporter: well, that's right. there are several new developments in this quadruple murder involving dna evidence. a pizza delivery as well as a search of a home in suburban maryland and now police have released the name of the person they believe is responsible. they have also released three photos of the suspect. take a look. police are looking for 34-year-old daron wint. he's been charged with first degree murder while armed. they searched his last known address in maryland. they could be seen going in and out of the home. we're also learn about a pizza delivery that was made to the home here in northwest washington on may the 13th. that's the day when the savopoulos family and the housekeeper were believed to have been taken captive inside the home. law enforcement officials tell "the washington post" that dna

found on a pizza crust matched that of daron wint. their now prime suspect. now wint has a criminal record that includes assault, carrying a concealed weapon and theft. he is now on the loose. police saying that they don't believe he's in the immediate area they're him. butelp from the public. if you want to take a closer look at those photos you can go to our website. go to our app and take a closer look. anyone with information you are asked to call police. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. blood evidence from inside that home is helping investigators paint a picture of what happened. last night detectives used the chemical luminol to search for clues. it creates a blue glow in the presence of blood. it can help to establish exactly when and how savvas and amy savopoulos and housekeeper veralicia figurera were killed. we know that two deliveries to the home are play -- we know that two are playing a role in this. the first is that pizza delivery that megan just mentioned.

the second a cash drop. a source close to the family tells news4 savvas savopoulos called his office in hyattsville. he asked an assistant to bring the $40,000 to the house thursday morning. police believe that the family was taken captive several hours earlier on wednesday night. we learned from sources that three adults killed in the house were found in a second floor bedroom. the adults showed signs of being beaten and stabbed. 10-year-old philip was found in his own bedroom. the police are naming one suspect and releasing the pictures on your screen. they want to find 34-year-old daron dylon wint. get a closer look at the pictures on our nbc washington app. you can share it with people you know. remember to turn on the breaking news alert so that you can get updates throughout the morning. coming up on six minutes

after the hour. today the man who flew his gyrocopter across d.c. and landed at the u.s. capitol is due in court. douglas hughes is charged with violating restricted air space and operating a vehicle falsely labeled as a postal carrier. we expect him to address his supporters after the arraignment today. it left lawmakers livid about him crossing the three no fly zones. we'll have a closer look at the hearing today and break down what we know at that point. also today, charles severance will make his first appearance in a courtroom. follow julie carey on twitter to find out first about his hearing today. severance is charged with tilling three -- killing three people in alexandria over the course of a decade. police moved the proceeding to fairfax. you might want the avoid driving near the university of maryland today because it's graduation today. more than 8,100 students are a part of the graduating class. the processional starts at the

we're staying on top of breaking news connected to the quadruple murder in d.c. police releasing the pictures of a suspect late last night. his name is daron wint. police are still looking for him. they were out overnight searching his home in lannan. we're working to learn more about mr. wint right now. we're bring you updates throughout the morning and push any information on the washington app. was know now the name of the second marine killed in a training exercise in hawaii. lance corporal matthew determan died from his injuries yesterday. sunday's accident involved an osprey which can fly like a helicopter or a fixed wing plane as well. 24-year-old marine from washington state died in the accident as well. two other marines are still in the hospital this morning. and today, former new england patriots player aaron hernandez will be in court. a jury convicted him of murder last month for killing odin lloyd. today he'll be arraigned in a

different murder case and investigation. he's charged with shooting a murder witness in the face. today even more clean-up crews will join hundreds of first responders working on a big crude oil spill out in california. an underground pipeline burst off the coast of santa barbara. you can see just how see the oil is stretching across nine miles in the water. a huge area. crews are still trying to contain it all. california's governor declaring a state of emergency there. investigators are working to learn why the pipeline broke. sides have reached a settlement about a deadly oil spill that happened five years ago. the company transocean will pay $211 million for damages from the bp oil spill in the gulf of mexico. the oil rig exploded. 11 workers died. oil poured into the gulf for nearly three months. 6:17 your time now. lawmakers grilled the u.s. capitol police chief about the gyrocopter that landed and caused a security issue and

other lapses that were part of this hearing as well. at that hearing on capitol hill yesterday, lawmakers wanted to know how douglas hughes was able to fly right up to the capitol even though police had been wark wark -- warned about his stunt. >> you did get the e-mail half an hour before that gyrocopter landed along with a live stream that this guy was live streaming his flight. maybe somebody else wants to follow up on that. it would seem that somebody would tune in. >> we attempted to tune in but we had no luck immediately. >> as for the other security concerns, the chief told the house committee his officers are getting extra training after three incidents in which they left guns inside restaurants. the american pharoah is accused of owing more than $1.6 million. he's accused of owing the money for gambling debts placed at off shore casinos. zayat said it's a total fiction

and it was filed in march in florida and zayat has asked a judge to discuss the case. this comes as american pharoah tries to become the first horse since 1978 to win horse racing's triple crown. and any way you slice it a handful of presidential hopefuls will be left out of the first presidential debate. that's because fox news has decided it will only allow ten participants. candidates must place in the top ten of an average of fox approved polls around the time of the debate. about 18 people are already running or seriously considering it. that debate is set for august 6th in cleveland. the memorial placed at the site of michael brown shooting is gone. volunteers removed the stuffed animals, flowers and mementoes yesterday. they had been there since last august when darren wilson shot him while responding to reports of after robbery.

yesterday would have been brown's 19th birthday. the city officials plan to put a permanent memorial plaque at the site where he died. barbara mikulski went to the white house for helping baltimore to recover from the violence after the death of freddie gray. she tweeted this photo yesterday as she arrived at the white house with the meeting with valerie jarrett. the violence last month caused $9 million in damage to businesses in baltimore. roughly 350 businesses have requested aid. we're working today -- rather today charles county deputies will be questioning someone who shot people in waldorf. and it's near the st. charlestown center mall. the county sheriff's office says that shooting appears to be a domestic incident. the victims are a man and a woman. we're working to learn what

condition they're in this morning. a 17-year-old is facing charges for shooting another teenager. they were trying to solve that shooting off government center parkway. officers say the teens started to fight at the victim's house and one of them shot the other. police charged him with a felony use of a firearm. the 17-year-old is expected to survive. alexandria is a step closer to getting a metro station. and the vote clears the way for the next step in the design process. and mayor bill yule says the project would create 26,000 jobs along with new housing, office and retail space. the station is expected to open late 2018 or early 2019. new this morning a government survey finds that public schools have beefed up security measures with safety drills and parent notification systems. the findings come from a principle survey in the 2013-14

school year. 88% of the public schools had a written plan of how to respond to an active shooter. 7 out of 10 had drills to practice that plan. about three-quarters of schools say they use security cameras now. well we have been saying it all morning, feels like we walked into march rather than may. >> and tom kierein will tell us how cool it will stay for a few hours, right? >> yeah, it's a damp, penetrating chill. make sure you have your umbrella with you. because it likely become raining over the next hour or so as a broad view of the of the of the radar shows this area of moving green, mostly light rain, west virginia, pennsylvania. much of virginia now moving into the metro area. from the west the closeup view of the local radar, very light rain, sprinkles south of washington. charles county, west of there along 95 from prince william into stafford and spotsylvania.

and then running into rain from haymarket west into the central shenandoah valley. scattered light sprinkles in the panhandle of west virginia and north and west of washington 270 meets 70 running into rain there right around frederick. as we look at the storm team 4 hour by hour timing on this rain the short range model is showing the rain moving in most of the region by 10:00. everything is wet. maybe a few moderate showers. the pockets in yellow south of the metro area by noontime. elsewhere, light rain. and then in the afternoon around 2:00 some moderate showers eastern shore. light rain metro area. then it starts to taper off west to east and by 4:00 much of the rain ending western northern suburbs and then along i-95. pretty much is ending by 6:00 p.m. some lingering showers on the eastern shore. downpours there along the atlantic beaches. sky clears out hovering in the 50s and near 60s in the day. quite a chill in the air, but sun back, breezy, back into the

70s tomorrow. beautiful pattern into the memorial day weekend. and then feeling like summer for memorial day, but not too high. and getting hot and a little more humid. back to work and school on tuesday, wednesday next week with highs right around 90 degrees. now melissa has breaking news on the roads. what's happening? >> breaking news, b.w. parkway southbound at route 32, the crash is out of the way, delays remain. at 3.7 miles as you head southbound on b.w. parkway approaching 32. you can take 95 of course as an alternate. don't have any delays 95 headed southbound. two eastbound lanes blocked at florida avenue because of a crash. right now, first 4 traffic tracker 95 north headed to the outer look going to get over to 66 to show us how things are looking right now. looking good right now. wide look at things overall, no major problems on the beltway. outer loop getting slow as inbound 395. that is quite typical but of course lots of people headed out of town early this weekend for

memorial day. 66 at 50 a little bit of volume headed inbound, just past 50. 270 headed southbound slow out of frederick and clarksburg and then it opens up. back in ten minutes. a new warning about lyme disease. it is more common than you might think. in maryland alone more than 1,300 lyme cases were reported last year. advocates say people and sometimes doctors don't know enough about lyme. they say often that leads to delayed diagnosis and treatment for this agonizing disease. >> at least 300,000 people a year and probably closer to a million. it's a bigger epidemic than aids. >> a lot of people become infected with lyme after a tick bite. maryland governor hogan is trying to increase awareness in our area as we head into summer and are spending more time outside. he is calling may tick borne disease awareness month. ticks can be found in brushy fields high grass and your own

back yard. as your kids look for a summer job, finding a job that pays well may be easier this year. an annual survey finds that 53% of employers have openings that pay above $15 or more an hour. the survey found that 77% of employers will consider summer hires for permanent positions. red nose day is finally here. they're making the u.s. debut tonight on nbc. more than 100 of hollywood's biggest stars like will ferrell and julia roberts and anna kendrick and more will tell a few jokes and raise a lot of money. the annual comedy and music event started in england. the benefit here will help 12 charity organizations lift children out of poverty. that's going to impact children around the world. matt lauer is just about to finish his two-day tour to red nose bike tour.

finally giving back the senate floor after ten hours, 30 minutes and 18 seconds of speaking against the patriot act. paul was calling for more debate over renewing a controversial part of that law. nbc's tracie potts is live now at capitol hill with more on what paul accomplished. what happens now? >> reporter: well the senate has to take some action or hopefully will take some action to try to resolve this. rand paul brought attention to himself. keep in mind he's a presidential candidate. do we renew the patriot act, let it expire or replace it with something else? he was talking about what the house has passed the usa freedom act. they have passed it. they voted and frankly they're planning on doing a few more votes and leaving in the middle of the day. it's really in the senate's court now. there are some senators who do not want this replacement that would allow phone companies and not the government to hold on to your phone records. it would restrict how the

government could search those files at the phone companies. senator mcconnell wants it to go another five years but that's unlikely to happen. their break is supposed to start on monday to do something. meantime the justice department is telling the nsa you may have to shut this down quickly if they do nothing and leaves it in limbo. they're suggesting that bulk collection of phone records ends after tomorrow if they have to shut it down. >> all right, tracie potts breaking it all down for us this morning. thanks. 6:34. a developing story this morning, isis gaining ground in the western an bar providence. the iraqi forces are fighting in the region as they have seized the city of ramadi. iraqi forces fought off the attack overnight. it's not clear if they'll try to retake the city of ramadi. there's 16 air strikes in the

fast 24 hours there. u.s. and cuban negotiators could be on the verge of history as they resume talks today. this morning diplomats are in washington to discuss reopening embassies. prep ranks are already being made in washington and havana for the day that diplomatic relations are completely restored. today, chuck schumer will funds amtrak. the company is coming under close scrutiny for the deadly derailment in philadelphia last week. eight people died and as of this morning, two people are still in critical condition. a congressional committee also scheduled an oversight hearing about what happened. today the montgomery county council will finalize the budget plan for the year. they plan to approve that $5 billion budget this morning. the budget includes money for body cameras for police officers and more funding for montgomery college. the council decided not to increase property taxes this year. parents in loudoun county are voicing their concerns about
