grandstanding and what needs to get done today. news 4 midday begins right now. we begin with that developing story. d.c. police detectives are working around the clock looking for the man wanted for the murders of three d.c. family members and their housekeeper. take a look on the left side of your screen is video of police searching the last known address of the suspect. his name the daron dylon wint. his picture is on the right side of your screen. police believe wint is on the right. megan mcgrath joins us live from outside the home in the woodley park neighborhood. megan, good morning again. >> reporter: good morning, barbara, it's a big development for sure police have a suspect. he is daron wint and they're getting his photo out to the public in the hope that someone could help them locate wint. as an investigator, you never know where your best lead will come from. this in this case it came from a pizza crust.

34-year-old daron wind the prime suspect in the murder of the savopoulos family and their housekeeper vera figueroa. sources close to the investigation tell news 4 wint has been linked to the brutal murders through dna. on wednesday, may 13, the day the victims were taken captive inside the northwest mansion, pizza was delivered to the home. sources say dna found on a pizza crust led them to daron wint. another delivery a day later has led to another development -- a possible motive. on thursday may 14 sources close to the family say savvas savopoulos had his personal assistant deliver $40,000 in cash to the home. hours after that delivery, the house was set on fire and four bodies were discovered. three victims had been beaten and stabbed to death. some of the bodies smelled of gasoline. the search for daron wint brought investigators to this home in maryland last night, the last known address for wint.

neighbors say his father lives here. the house is located near the spot where the savopoulos family car was found torched. and daron wint is still on the loose. police are asking for help locating him. we'll be getting an update from the chief of police as well as the mayor. we'll stream that live so stay with news 4 all day long for the very latest. back to you in the studio. >> we've moved into the newsroom to talk to news 4's pat collins who has been following this story from the beginning. it seems at every turn the more information we get the more bizarre and gruesome this gets. let me ask you about a couple of deliveries that have become significant to that house. >> two mysterious deliveries that happened during this incident. the first according to a source close to the family, mr. savvas savopoulos had his assistant bring $40,000 in cash to that

big crude oil spill in california. an underground pipeline there burst off the coast of santa barbara. if you look you can see the oil stretching across nine miles in the water now. crews are still trying to contain it all. california's governor declared a state of emergency there and investigators are working to figure out how, why that pipe broke transocean will pay $200 million for damages. oil poured into the gulf for nearly three months. it's chilly with temperatures in the low to mid-50s. 54 in washington and leesburg gaithersburg at 50. as we head into the afternoon hours. we're not going to warm up too much more from where we're at right now. notice temperatures are only warm ago few more degrees. these temperatures more common in march rather than late may.

>> i don't think we have to be that fearful of terrorism that we have to give up who we are in the process. >> reporter: that is kentucky senator and 2016 presidential hopeful fulful rand paul during a ten and a half hour speech on the senate floor. he wants reforms to the patriot act that the white house uses to justify collecting massive amounts of your phone data. that expires june 1 if congress doesn't renew it. this was a high profile move for paul who's running for president but it brings a lot of attention to a big issue, americans are skittish about their privacy.

pew research crunched numbers on this for us. what you'll see is that about 93% of adults say that it's important to them to control who can get that information about them. we move forward now. you'll see 90% say they think it's important to control what is collected about them. then an 88% number we get out of the question about people who don't want to be observed without their permission. at the same time people don't have a lot of faith their data will be secure. just 38% think credit card companies can keep their investigation secure and only 31% think the government can keep their data secure. we want to know what you have to say. . should there be more limits on what data the government collects on americans. you can shoot us a text tweet or head to our web side. we'll have the results later in the broadcast. barbara? >> it looks like any way you slice it aaron, a handful of

august 5 next year. today you can register for the 2016 rock 'n roll marathon in the district. thousands expected to sign up for that annual race. the rock 'n roll marathon series is known for its musical performances along the route. you can register for the marathon, a half marathon or a 5k. the race takes place on march 12 2016. red nose day is finally here. the charity fund-raising event is making its u.s. debut on nbc. more than 100 of hollywood's biggest stars like will farrell anna kendrick will come together to raise some money. the annual comedy and music event started in england. the benefit event will help 12 charity organizations lift children out of poverty around the world. matt lauer finished his tour de red nose. it took him two days to bike the 230 miles from boston to new york city.

detectives went back to the woodley park home to look for blood evidence that can help establish exactly when and how the four victims, asavvas and amy savopoulos and their housekeeper vera figueroa were killed. news 4's megan mcgrath is outside the family's house with information about the search for wint. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, barbara, it's an unusual place to find a key piece of evidence on a pizza crust. but that's what happened. before i get to the that. we are seeing developments unfold very quickly here and we are learning that the prime suspect in this case daron wint, that he may be in new york city. our sister station in new york has confirmed through multiple sources that u.s. marshals and the nypd are tracking leads in new york. in addition to releasing the

suspect's name police have released these photographs. there are three of them take a look here. daron wint was identified as a suspect through an unusual piece of evidence, a pizza crust. a pizza was delivered to the mansion the night of may 13, the day the savopoulos family and their housekeeper vera figueroa were taken captive. a source close to the investigation says dna found on a pizza crust matches daron wint. the 34-year-old is wanted for first degree murder while armed. last night, look at this video, investigators came to this home in lanham maryland neighborhoods say that's where wint's father lives. they talked to people inside the home, we saw them taking pictures and collecting evidence in and around the house but they did not find wint at that location and he is still at large. we are expecting an update at 12:15 so just in a short time from now we're expecting to hear

today the third u.s. infantry regiment will honor our fallen military heroes with the annual flags in. more than a thousand soldiers will plant a thousand american flags at 200 grave markers. that starts today at 4:00 p.m. and starting today, a competition kicks off for the final national world war i memorial design. . this is a two-stage international design competition. you can submit your proposal regardless of whether you're a design professional, a student or just want to participate. . submissions are due july 21. finalists will be named in august. the winning design will be announced in january. the memorial will be built at pershing park along pennsylvania avenue near the white house. amelia? >> it's chilly outside right now. temperatures coming in at 48 manassas and washington coming in at 54. memorial day weekend if you're heading to the beach, here's your forecast.

>> i will not let the patriot act -- the most unpatriotic of acts -- go unchallenged. that's kentucky senator and 2016 presidential hopeful rand paul during a ten and a half hour speech on the senate floor. it was a high-profile challenge to the patriot act which is up for renewal right now. nbc's tracyie potts has reports on what paul said and what. cos now. >> reporter: barbara, after what turned out to be a very long night in the senate it almost went to midnight. today lawmakers are going to be looking at how they can move this forward. what can they do about replacing the patriot act or extending the patriot act before they go on break. on monday the house already voted on that they sent over the usa freedom act allowing phone records to stay with the phone companies and not the
