police say wint had help but no one else is behind bars yet. this investigation far from over. >> our work is not done. >> first tonight only here on news 4, an inside look at the fast and furious arrest of the fugitive fugitive daron wint. >> last night live during this broadcast we took you live to the scene and now our first look at wint in handcuffs. >> wint surrendered without incident because u.s. marshals say he had no choice. they surrounded his vehicle with overwhelming manpower. team coverage begins with news 4's darcy spencer back at the spot where a week long chase for a murder suspect came to an end. darcy? >> reporter: well jim, that's right. that takedown happened right here behind me about this time last night, and tonight we are showing you these new exclusive photos of that arrest once he was put in custody, and

officials tell me he showed no emotion. photos obtained exclusively by news 4 show quadruple murder suspect daron dylon wint right after he was arrested on northeast. officers on scene described him as surprisingly calm when he was ordered out of the white chevy cruze at gunpoint. >> he didn't say a word. he was stoic. >> reporter: wint was taken into custody with several others. the car was traveling with a box truck with as much as $10,000 cash inside. wint was wanted for the brutal murders of the sfap loss family and their housekeeper. the chevy was followed from the howard johnson motel in college park by members of the fugitive task force. >> we pinned the sedan with four vehicles. we surrounded the box truck and everybody gave up immediately. >> the prince george's county police helicopter also tracked the car for several miles as it headed south of route 1 into the district providing the exact location to officers on the ground. >> basically what we were doing

was keeping an eye on the vehicle for the marshals in case the suspect decided to -- to flee or run in the vehicle, and i was able to use the flare camera. >> reporter: that's forward looking infrared technology that helped the flight crew track the car until marshals found the moment to make their move. >> pretty difficult due to the level of traffic that we had on baltimore avenue last night and once we got the information from the ground troops we were able to put our eyes on target pretty quick. >> reporter: now the marshal service says wint was not armed when he was taken into custody and there's no evidence at this point that there were any guns in the car. back to you. >> thanks darcy. there is new surveillance video tonight that shows more than a dozen u.s. marshals and new york city police officers searching the home of wint's girlfriend in brooklyn on wednesday. inside that house they found wint's cell phone and the woman. officers questioned her for hours, but she has not been charged. >> this afternoon investigators

returned to the howard johnson hotel in college park where police believe wint may have stayed after brooklyn and before his arrest last night. they searched one room and collected several bags of evidence. tonight investigators hope that evidence will help them figure out who else may have been involved in this in the murders of savvas amy and philip savopoulos and vera figueroa. in charging documents today police make it clear that they think daron wint had help. news 4's shomari stone reports on where the investigation goes from here. shomari? >> right now the investigation is continuing and homicide detectives are still talking to daron wint and other people who are possibly involved in this case. the new allegations in these court documents reveal that daron wint allegedly had help while carrying out this quadruple murder according to the court documents. in court he said nothing but his name. tonight he's in jail. daron wint stood before a judge

wearing handcuffs, shackles on his feet and a white jumpsuit. he's accused of killing savvas stafflous, his wife amy and 10-year-old son philip and their housekeeper. this evening wint did not offer a plea and the judge sent him to jail. acting u.s. attorney vincent cohen. >> mr. wint is now incarcerated and he's held without bond. our work is not done. >> reporter: tonight charging documents paint a picture of unimaginable crime and torture and murder. they reveal one of stafflous' employees delivered $40,000 to the home. that employee also allegedly lied to police about when savopoulos called him with instructions to deliver the cash. court documents also state daron wint had held while he allegedly held the savopoulos family overnight before theyere killed last week. the crime required the presence and assistance of more than one person end quote. i tried to get answers from the acting u.s. attorney.

who are others involved? prosecutors told investigators they saw a man driving savopoulos' porsche on new york avenue here before it was set on fire behind a church in new carlton. now that witness allegedly told investigators that man was a black male with well-groomed hair. that doesn't fit the description of daron wint because he has dread locks. while police continue to interview witnesses and search for clues, d.c. mayor muriel bowser applauds the department for arresting the suspect. >> i'm proud of the work of our police department and the partnership that we have with our federal agencies who helped us in the investigation. >> reporter: now today we also know that police found a plastic water bottle with fingerprints at the crime scene. they will take that water bottle back to the lab and run dna tests on it. coincidentally the judge here in d.c. superior court asked for daron wint to provide a dna

sense of calm and security to our neighborhood and to our city. we hope you'll stay with us for any new developments in this story throughout the holiday weekend. look for updates on air and on the nbc washington app. new at 11:00 tonight, a navy pilot was pulled out of the water near san diego after his t-45 training jet went off the end of a runway and he ejected. the pile was training to prepare to qualify for carrier landings when this all happened. after local boaters pulled the pilot out of the water, he was taken to a hospital for evaluation. no word on his condition right now, nor do we know why he crashed. >> there is new video of the fire we told you about last night at 11:00, a $400,000 home was engulfed in flames when fire fighters arrived. there wasn't much of a chance of saving the place. the fire chief on the scene told his fire fighters to stay out of the house. he was worried that the roof would collapse and by the time chopper 4 got there the whole roof had collapsed. this house was a total loss.

nobody was inside. it is going to take some time for investigators to figure out what causeded this. >> a man convicted of killing a congressional intern will likely get a new trial. federal prosecutors said today they will not try to stop the man from seeking a retrial. he was convicted in 2010 of killing the intern chandra levy back in 2001 but his lawyers say that conviction was based on the testimony of a former cellmate testimony that they say was both false and misleading. prosecutors say they are still confident in the conviction and they are prepared for a new trial. they are in for another long night on capitol hill. senator rand paul has promised another filibuster to hold up a bill that would extend the national security agency's data collection program. his speech wednesday night, it went for more than ten hours. senators are considering two options, renew a section of the

patriot act that allows the nsa to collect telephone and business rds without a warrant or vote or a bipartisan house bill that would end the collection program but would still allow the feds to get the data from phone companies. the patriot act is set to expire june 1st. the house is already on a week long break, so it's up to the senate to keep the surveillance program from ending along with it. >> the state department today released a first batch of hillary clinton's private e-mails from her time as secretary of state. one of those e-mails about the 2012 benghazi libya attacks which had not been classified before was classified by the fbi before it could be released today. clinton was campaigning in new hampshire. she insists she has always wanted those e-mails made public. next at 11:00, a reality tv show taken off the air amid allegations against one of its stars. what the network is saying tonight. >> if your weekend drive

josh duggar. in a statement the network said it was deeply troubled by what it calls, quote, a heartbreaking situation. according to a report obtained by "in touch weekly" the alleged misconduct happened between 2002 and 2003. a week ago amtrak service was shut down because of that deadly derailment outside of philadelphia. this weekend thousands of people will ride that train to get to and from their holiday destinations and as deanna durante from our sister station in philadelphia reports, the northeasttill be closed were it not for some hardworking iron workers. >> we are the prime example of -- of craftsmen, united states craftsmen making things in america. >> reporter: mike buxton talk about his company with pride and again he's talking about the steel fabrication workers with such pride. >> we worked around the clock.

>> reporter: they fixed two major beams that support electrical wires over amtrak's northeast corridor didn't have weeks but hour. the two major beams were toppled when train 188 derailed last week pulling all the wires needed to pour septa and amtrak trains two or three men watched each other's backs asled beams were drilled, welded and delivered to the scene of the crash. >> we delivered the first steel on saturday at 1:00 a.m. that was the vertical columns, and then the whole rest of the job was by 12:00 noon on saturday. >> we have had a number of emergency jobs rail jobs and other jobs. this is by far the biggest, the most important and frankly because it happened in our own backyard. it was the most important for us to get it back up and operational. >> that was deanna durante reporting from philadelphia. hey, every golf course has to have at least a few hazards but very few have one like this.

it was in june of 1969 that i had my first exposure on this 11:00 news broadcast. i was 27 years old, terrified, my first experience would be my last. i was ainge is his to get on the 11:00 because back then reporters got $10 for every story we got on the 6:00 show and $5 for the 11:00, i wanted the money but here's what i never told my employers. would i have done it for free. i had already fallen in love with this business and couldn't wait for the next assignment. fast forward 46 years. i'm still scared to death half the time trying desperately not to mess it up and still madly in love with what i do every day to make a living. i sincerely thank every one of you and your parents, too, probably for putting up with me
