mother nature take it easy on us this holiday weekend from a weather perspective. high pressure is built in. it's off to an almost chilly start first thing this morning. here's our nearby neighbor. the washington national cathedral. early morning sunshine already out there. sun came up almost ten minutes ago before 6:00 a.m. and boy is it chilly. 41 in gaithersburg in frederick right now. mid-50s around downtown. low 50s alongside the chesapeake bay. a quick warm-up coming our way. mid-50s by 9:00 a.m. mid-60s by 11:00 a.m. out and about this afternoon, if you find something to complain about with a day like this there may be something wrong with you. sunshine and temperatures in the low 70s for today. and another clear, quiet, cool night coming up as well. tomorrow looks even nicer as well. and then we'll start talking about holiday monday. see you in a few more minutes.

>> thanks. right now prince george's county police need your help finding this boy. he was last seen in the 2600 block of southern avenue. he was wearing a burgundy shirt and khaki pants. and new this morning, police looking into a double shooting that killed one man and hurt a woman in southeast d.c. now, the shooting happened late last night on irving street not far away from suitland parkway. the man died at the hospital. the woman was shot in the stomach. no word on her condition. this morning only news4 can show you the capture of fugitive daron wint. look at these pictures. they were taken just after handcuffs were slapped on wint late thursday night. he is now charged with murdering a d.c. family and their housekeeper. wint's capture took a coordinated effort between federal, state, and district law enforcement. u.s. marshals say this case was priority one. they were committed to taking

wint off the streets. news4's darcy spencer has an inside look at how officers closed in on the quadruple murder suspect. >> reporter: these photos obtained exclusively by news4 show quadruple murder suspect daron wint just after he was arrested in northeast. officers on scene described him as surprisingly calm when he was ordered out of the white chevy cruze at gun point. >> he was stoic. >> reporter: wint was taken into custody with several others. the car was traveling with a box truck that had as much as $10,000 in cash inside. wint was wanted for the brutal murders of the savopoulos family and their housekeeper. the car was followed by members of the fugitive task force. >> we pinned the sedan with four vehicles. we surrounded the box truck. everybody gave up immediately. >> reporter: the prince george's county helicopter also tracked the car for several miles into

the district providing the exact location to officers on the ground. >> basically what we were doing was keeping an eye on the vehicle for the marshals in case the suspect decided to flee or run in the vehicle. >> i was able to use the flir looking cam. >> reporter: that's forward looking infrared technology that they used to track until officers made their move. >> once we got the information from the ground troops we were able to put our eyes on target pretty quickly. >> reporter: darcy spencer, news4 today. >> marshals say wint was not armed when he was taken into custody. there's no evidence at this point there were any guns in the car. >> daron wint was said to have an accomplice as he held the family and housekeeper hostage. that came yesterday during the first court appearance. the crime required the presence and assistance of more than one person. the captors held the family

until someone delivered $40,000 in cash to the home. during the hearing the judge ordered wint to serve a dna swap and be held without bond. >> though mr. wint is now incarcerated without bond our work is not done. >> i'm proud of our work with the police department and the partnership we had with our federal agencies who helped us in the investigation. >> now, wint did not enter a plea during the hearing. he's due back in court on june 23rd. >> it was a collaborated law enforcement attempt. look at t surveillance video here of more than a dozen marshals and officers searching wint's girlfriend's home in brooklyn. inside the apartment investigators found his cell phone. wint's girlfriend has not been charged. meanwhile, back in our region investigators returned to the howard johnson hotel.

that is where it's believed wint stayed before his arrest. text we're keeping you updated on every step of this investigation on air as well as online. check out our nbc washington app. and today, rolling thunder will kick off its annual thunder alley in the district. hundreds of thousands of bikers will drive into the district this weekend to honor our military men and women who sacrificed serving our country. 22nd street will be closed between c street and constitution avenue northwest. there will be a wreath presentation at 11 this morning at the u.s. navy memorial. it's on pennsylvania avenue northwest. yesterday the washington national cathedral remembered the fallen service members. they held their annual blessing of the bikes which is a super cool event.

ride to freedom from the pentagon to the national mall. the group's goal is to call attention to the prisoners of war and those missing in action. and at arlington international cemetery they are placing american flags at the grave sites of our fallen heroes. members of the old guard began that mission on thursday. they are placing those flags exactly one foot in front of each grave marker. it is a tradition that has happened for more than 65 years. right now you might be packing up to head to the beach. why not? here's a look at the bay bridge this morning. looks pretty clear. you can call 1-to check traffic before you head out. and the 95 express lanes in virginia are running southbound. they'll stay southbound until 2:00 this afternoon. tomorrow morning the express lanes will shut down for six hours for the rolling thunder freedom ride. it will happen from 7:00 in the morning to 1:00 in the

that would extend the nsa collections program. they worked in the wee hours of the morning. a live look at the capitol there. the vote was 57-42. that's short of the 60-vote threshold to move ahead. key provisions in the patriot act are expressed to expire june 1st if they do not extend them. the house overwhelmingly passed the freedom act last week. it also would extend two other provisions used frequently by the fbi. maryland governor larry hogan vetoed several bills includeingeing those that would have allowed people on probation or parole to vote. he also vetoed a bill that would allow travel companies to pay

welcome back to california. state beaches closed this memorial day weekend because of a huge oil spill. take a look. the oil is leaking from an underground pipe near santa barbara. vets in the area say one dolphin and five pelicans have been found dead. that is gorgeous coastline out there. the vote is unanimous. even the worst golfers among us everybody at this desk could probably sink this hole. take a look at this. it's a massive sinkhole that opened up on this golf course in branson, missouri. this happened yesterday morning. get this. that thing is 100 feet deep and it's growing. officials say the recent heavy rain may have caused a cave below the course to actually cave in.

>> would improve my short game. >> that's right. okay. so tlc has pulled all episodes of its popular show "19 kids & counting" after a revelation of a member of the family. >> josh duggar allegedly molested several young girls as a teenager. erica hill has more on how the decades' old allegation is now coming to light. >> we're the duggars. >> reporter: the network tlc has now pulled the show effective immediately. allegations involving the high-profile family were first revealed by "in touch" magazine in a police report. at the request of one of the alleged minor victims with b a court ordered that report expunged. it says josh duggar was accused of repeatedly molesting five underage girls while they slept.

on tuesday josh duggar now a married father of three said in a statement, 12 years ago as a young teenager i acted inexcusebly for which i am extremely story and regret. i hurt others. according to the report josh's father jim bob duggar first learned about the allegations in 2002. after an incident in 2003 he sought help from church elders but did not call the police. the report says josh duggar was sent away for four months for counseling and his father later asked a state trouper to speak to his son. no report was filed at that time. an investigation was opened in 2006 after someone contacted the oprah winfrey show which passed along the information. but the statute of limitations had been run out and no charges were filed. before this surfaced i interviewed the family. tlc has not responded to

questions about whether it was aware of the allegations. but now says it is saddened and troubled. in a statement jim bob and michelle duggar said their son made some very bad mistakes and we were shocked. josh duggar resigned from the family resurgeon council, a conservative christian lobbying group. mike huckabee posted his support. janet and i want to affirm our support for the duggar family. josh's actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself. inexcusable but that doesn't mean unforgivable. whether the one-time fans of this family agree remains to be seen. erica hill, nbc news, new york. well this weekend you can now take uber to the beach. the baltimore sun reports uber will offer rides to beachgoers in ocean city and st. michaels this memorial day weekend. they will also provide service in 20 other beach towns along the coast. uber said it will constantly evaluate demand to determine whether its services this summer

would be just seasonal or year round. well today the outdoor pools, they are opening up pretty much everywhere. especially in montgomery county. the kouncounty's seven outdoor pools will open up today. for adult this cost is $8 on the weekends and $6 during the week. you can get your summer pool passes now, but you've got to buy them. you can enjoy swimming at other outdoor pools in the district. spray park it officially opens today. free to all d.c. residents. if you live outside the district you have to pay a small fee. >> come on mayor. do the canon ball. >> you're out of state. it's like college. >> for those who don't know there was a canon ball, the mayor used to do it in when they opened. >> i like the old fashioned

students graduating high school on the campus of prince george's community college are finishing with two degrees. they completed the dual enrollment program. news4's zachary kiesch has our story. >> she's a single mother. she's never been to college. so she's always wanted better for me and my sister and brother. >> reporter: toia hawkins and her mother. a two-year college degree. mom wanted better and it's happened. >> i've been crying all morning. >> reporter: this is the academy

not act alone when he held the savopoulos family and their housekeeper hostage. the crime required the presence and assistance of more than one person. the captors held the family until someone delivered $40,000 in cash to the home. mark segraves has more on the horrific scene that played out inside the savopoulos family home. >> reporter: documents revealed a home invasion gan wednesday about 6:00 p.m. the day before the fire. there was a flurry of phone calls and text messages between the father savvas savopoulos and his assistant and one other person about the delivery of the money. the assistant changed his story about when he was first called by savopoulos and how he delivered the money. >> though mr. wint is now incarcerated and he's held without bond, our work is not done. we will continue to investigate this case and bring all charges that are appropriate in the coming weeks. >> reporter: mark segraves

news4. well the week-long manhunt and arrest of daron wint offers some closure, but there are still a whole lot of questions. we've put together a timeline of what we know so far on our nbc washington app. the man convicted of killing a congressional intern will not seek a retrial. he was convicted of killing chandra levy back in 2001. that was based off the testimony of a former cell mate. testimony they say was false and misleading. prosecutors say they're still confident in his conviction and they're preparing for a new trial. new this morning, both sides say ireland is on track to legalize same-sex marriage making it the first country to do so at the ballot box. election workers are counting the votes in ireland concerning same-sex marriage right now. a ballot measure would confirm

act in connecticut. you know who it is. it's nik wallenda. he tiptoed his way to the roof of an outlet mall. he walked about 70 feet up in the air. okay. so the olsen twins will not appear on the "full house" reboot coming to netflix called "fuller house." the twins shared that role as michelle tanner when they were young. the show's executive producer says -- excuse me -- the 28-year-old twins want to focus on their fashion brand. so they are not going to participate. news4's chris gordon recently visited the city formerly known as saigon. >> reporter: vietnam was my generation's war. tens of thousands of americans were killed or wounded. there were supporters of the war and vocal opponents. large numbers of protesters participating in demonstrations demanding the u.s. get out of vietnam. it has been 40 years since the fall of saigon. i came with a camera to see what vietnam is like under communism now. and to find out what the vietnamese think of americans. >> they understand that american people not make the war in vietnam. just some people like some the government that time like nixon. >> reporter: u.s. veterans visiting vietnam try to come to grips with the past. >> i found myself to be more

emotional than i would expect being here. >> reporter: the united states fought to stop the spread of communism in southeast asia. it was the first war the u.s. lost. the vietnamese don't call it the vietnam war. they call it the american war. u.s. military superiority was out-maneuvered by guerrilla warfare. small groups of vietcong fighters would ambush u.s. troops and then disappear through rabbit hole entrances into tunnels like those here just outside of saigon. it's a real jungle battlefield that now attracts u.s. veterans who once fought here. >> i felt the war shouldn't have been fought. we had no business being there. and it's just the way it is. a lot of people died for nothing. >> reporter: i experienced how hard a time u.s. troops had trying to clear these tunnels. i took a camera as i crawled through a small, hot, dark

section of 20 meters of the tunnel. i was soon disoriented. by the time i got out, my shirt was soaked with sweat and i was losing my voice. more than 12 million people now live and work in ho chi minh city. roads are crowded with scooters. everywhere you look people are doing business. they sell food fruit, vegetables clothes, jewelry. small businesses competing with the biggest designer name stores. my guide calls it red capitalism. >> vietnam come mist country. but we going on cap list way. it's more freedom, more free market in vietnam. so it's very easy to do business in vietnam now. >> reporter: in my next report the story of reconciliation. how an american flier and the vietnamese pilot who shot him down have become the closest of friends. reporting from ho chi minh city in vietnam, chris gordon, news4.

36 degrees in sharpsburg. 44 in hagerstown. so there are pockets of real chill out there this morning. but on the whole, this is not the kind of chill that is going to mess up your plans. a cool start turning into a wonderfully mild afternoon today. temperatures a couple degrees cooler than average later on this afternoon. here's your hourly temperatures out of the 40s. this is at reagan national. 55 now becomes 57 next hour. up to about 70 degrees by 1:00. so our cooler suburbs where you're starting in the 30s and 40s, the warm-up will take a little bit longer but you'll still make 70 or better this afternoon. when you're going to boston new york philly atlanta today, great weather along the i-95 corridor. unsettled across the great plains states. but for us mostly sunny for the remainder of your saturday. seasonably cool again overnight tonight. if you're headed out, first

pitch, nationals playing the phillies today. 74 degrees at first pitch time. seventh inning stretch right around 70 degrees. just as the put the lights out, i'm going to go 5-3 for a final score forecast for today in favor of the nationals. forecast the next couple of days mid-70s today. right around 80, 82 degrees coming up tomorrow. noticeably warmer and turning quite a bit more humid as we get into monday itself. now, by the time you wake up tomorrow morning, plan on temperatures mostly in the upper 40s to low 50s. not quite as chilly as it's been the last couple of mornings out here. and the seven-day forecast calls for real summer weather to be here. starting on monday as the warmth and humidity come back. but real summer weather arrives tuesday, wednesday, thursday friday of next week. high temperatures should be 90 or better. all of those days. and the chances of afternoon thunderstorms really starts kicking back in on tuesday and wednesday and takes us on into the end of next week.

around at school because of cerebral palsy. >> she was born preemie. she wasn't even supposed to be born. >> reporter: juanita wasn't the only student offended. >> why would you hurt somebody? why? just because you didn't like them? >> reporter: below other pictures there were sexual innuendos. under one, the only negativity around here should be a pregnancy test. outraged parents like monty walker -- >> i'm a graduate of wty and it tarnished the reputation of my high school and alma mater and his soon to be alma mater. >> reporter: he confronted the principal who in the book is listed as the adviser to the group. the yearbook staff acknowledged her help proofreading the book. >> somebody had to proof it and proof it again, proof it ten times. you don't make this mistake. >> reporter: but dallas isd says the district is in the process of reviewing the complete contents of the book.
