off of massachusetts avenue. this very sad news was shared nationally within the last hour or so that the vice president's son lost his battle with cancer. he was surrounded by his entire family when he passed away this evening, that includes his wife halle and their two young children. he battled cancer a couple years ago, sought treatment and had beat it. as we understand at some point this spring he had a relapse and was at some point transferred to walter reed just this month. the vice president issued a statement earlier today saying beau's life was defined by service to others. as a young lawyer he worked to establish the rule of law in war torn kosovo a major in the delaware national guard, he was an iraq war veteran. he fought for the powerless and made it his mission to ro tektprotect

children from abuse. the president and first lady say they are saddened they are grieving saying he was a friend and devoted to his family. >> well wishes and prayers are poring in from well wishes delaware residents and others to offer condolences. we have a look back at beau biden's life. >> beau biden, former delaware attorney general and eldest son of joe biden died saturday from breast cancer. the 46-year-old bronze star recipient was first diagnosed in august of 2013. following treatment he was given a clean bill of health and returned to work as delaware attorney general months later. he announced last year ef would plan a run for governor in 2016. >> please join me in welcoming

george's county. the shooting happened this afternoon in what's described as a cut through near the martin luther king junior highway. when police got there they found a man dead. he had been shot multiple times. late this evening police towed a chrysler from the scene. people who live in the neighborhood say it's usually a quiet neighborhood. >> i've been here a long time. we don't usually have -- we haven't had any murders or any shootings. shootings. >> right now police are talking to witnesses. the man accused of killing his neighbors on mother's day will be in court on monday. scott tomaszewski is scheduled for a bond review. detectives brought him back from alaska late last night. police say he stabbed joe

vilardo and his wife to death. former governor martin o'malley did not waste any time getting on the campaign trail. after announcing he's running for president in baltimore, o'malley travelled to davenport, iowa. earlier in the city where he was once mayor, he promised to rebuild the economy and reform wall street. o'malley pledged to raise the minimum wage and invest in education. he also took some not so subtle jabs at other presidential hopefuls. >> i got news for the bullies of wall street the presidency is not a crown to be passed back and forth by you between two royal families. it is a sacred trust. >> o'malley is the third democrat with significant backing to jump into the race. his rivals former secretary of state hillary clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders. right now the temperatures are still in the 70s. what can we expect tomorrow

new at 11:00, the death toll is rising from those devastating floods in texas and oklahoma. three more bodies were pulled out of the water today bringing the total to 31 people dead. tonight we know the flooding is not over. all eyes are now on houston. floodwaters up north are moving downstream threatening the city. parts of the area are expected to get up to five inches of rain this weekend. developing tonight at 11:00, the countdown is on. if congress doesn't act, the patriot act will expire in a little more than 24 hours. that means that at the stroke of midnight tomorrow night the national security agency will no longer be allowed to collect phone records without a warrant. mitch mcconnell is calling the senate back early for a rare sunday night session. it's not clear if they have a solution. kentucky republican rand paul says he will disrupt any efforts
