degree from syracuse university's prestigious newhouse school of communication. her parents are so proud of her accomplishments. >> every night we came home that little girl had that light on. and she would type up story after story after story after story. >> reporter: one week ago, milton was on her way home from covering a meeting, transferring buses in the 2700 block of good hope rope southeast when a teenager on a bike began shooting at a group of men. one reportedly pulled the reporter in front of him to use her as a human shield. >> there are two men who are out there that can do that what is righteous. not what is right in their own eyes, but do what is right in his eyes. and if they would surrender and turn themselves in. >> i'm actually praying for someone who would do something like, this praying for their souls. >> reporter: late this evening, friends of milton's family returned to the scene, handing out flyers, pleading for help to responsible for her death. milton's father says the reason

he keeps talking about his daughter, the reason he wants this information out there is he is hoping to reach one conscience, one person who can give information that will lead to his daughter's killers. jackie bensen news4. hours, we expect police to release more search warrants relating to the mansion murders in northwest d.c. more on all the new details we learned about today. chris? >> reporter: wendy, investigators are telling news4 they plan to release more of the warrants thursday. and if they're anything like the pages we have seen today that. >> could go a long way towards explaining what happened. with know police are looking through jordan wallace's cell phone records and requested another warrant to search his car. he was an assistant to savvas savopoulos and the one who brought $40,000 in cash to his home. another revelation, the killer or killers didn't sneak in. they kicked in a french door. the family had a surveillance at home, but it looks like the

killers tooking the recording device that stores the video. all four victims were held captive overnight, bound and gagged. but three of their cell phones are missing, and since police don't think daron wint pulled this off on his own they're hoping other suspects took the phones and are now using them. read through the warrants online and we expect more tomorrow. firefighters spent this evening handing out smoke detectors and answering questions in a dupont circle neighborhood, where two people died in a row house fire today. news4's shomari stone live now on riggs place northwest. and shomari a lot of those questions still unanswered tonight. >> well that's right. a lot of neighbors have come outside, asking us questions. right now firefighters are trying to determine what caused this fire. look right across the street. you can see the charred debris. the damage is extensive. and tonight neighbors are stunned. the fire was an inferno, flames

heavy smoke shooting out of this row house in northwest d.c. two. people died five hurt. ellen kerry lives next door. what did you hear this morning? >> at 2:30 we woke up to shouting and loud screams. and then ambulances. >> reporter: the fire started on the 1600 block of riggs place between dupont and logan circle. this evening, firefighters passed out safety flyers. >> what we're doing right now is canvassing the neighborhood who has actual smoke detectors. if they're not working or too old, we'll provide them. >> it's good to see them out here, giving the community that support. >> reporter: firefighters are also investigating. if the smoke detectors were working inside the three-story house. a neighbor who didn't want to show her face on camera says she saw the homeowner during the fire. >> jumped out of the window. and he was hurt. he was bleeding. but they took him to an ambulance and took him to the hospital. >> reporter: investigators say

two other people died. we spoke to john mecum. he lives in the bottom of the. his place was destroyed. he was out of town when the fire broke out. >> i woke up this morning to people texting and facebook messaging me saying are you okay, are you okay. >> reporter: and john mecum says he is fortunate to be alive. he says two people lived on the top floor of this three-story apartment. and the homeowner and possibly another person lived on the second floor. officials have not released the names of the victims. they're expected to be released over the next couple of days. live in northwest d.c., i'm shomari stone news4. tonight more than 100 people gathered to remember a woman shot and killed in a target parking lot this week. family and friends hold a vigil for sade at seneca high school. we'll hear from them and the message they have a little later in our newscast. searchers will be back at work in the morning looking for a missing swimmer in the potomac river. two young men were swimming in the river when they ran into

trouble this afternoon. only one of them got out. and today's search went on for about three hours. storm team 4 weather. now another chilly day on the way. doug, how long before it feels like june again? >> i think it's going to be friday maybe saturday. that's when we're going to start to finally see at least some sunshine. and that's going to help turning the temperatures up. high temperatures today, look at the numbers. 64 in d.c. one of the coolest junes we've seen in about nine years. and really one of the coolest we've seen in the last 10 to 15 years in the month of june. 59, culpeper. look at the rain making its way back in. a little lull in the rain, but now it's all coming back down around fredericksburg and quantico, waldorf. some will continue to see more rain right on through the early rush. i'll break it down for you and show you what to expect tomorrow and the next couple of days including the all important weekend. >> thank you, doug. there is new information tonight about the terror suspect who police shot and killed in boston. police say usaama rahim planned

to attack police officers. and tonight nbc news also learned he talked about beheading pamela geller. she is the woman who has been very prominent in the news recently who leads the american freedom defense initiative, the group that puts on those cartoon contests that feature the prophet muhammad. sources say rahim and another man, david wright, plotted these attacks on police in massachusetts, and then considered killing geller. it's not clear whether they even knew where to find her. but police and the fbi killed rahim on tuesday when they confronted him and he refused to drop a knife. wright is now in custody. still no word tonight on what happened to a construction worker who died today down on the national map. we're also working to find out the man's identity. he was a metal panel worker at the national museum of african american history and culture. the general contractor for the museum, clark smoot russell released a statement tonight saying safety is the company's top priority.

police say a popular d.c. teacher acknowledged that he inappropriately touched one of his students. and according to court documents giovanni pena touched a boy over his clothing in the classroom. he also says he sent an inappropriate picture to the boy on snap chat. that boy is now 11 years old. he was 9 or 10 at the time of this alleged abuse, and described pena as a close family friend who traveled on vacation with his family. many parents at the school say they are in disbelief. >> i'm troubled and disturbed like everybody else in school. my daughter is scared. >> pena was named "the washington post" d.c. teacher of the year in 2011. he was released from jail this afternoon. been following and will be following all day tomorrow. in the morning a judge will decide if the media will be allowed to cover a pretrial hearing for jessi matthew. that is to determine if the

victim of a 2005 rain in fairfax county can identify matthew as her attacker. attorneys for matthew want reporters to be banned from the hearing because they say coverage could taint the jury pool for his upcoming trial. matthew is also charged in the murder of uva student hannah graham. the postal service is taking steps tonight to fire the man who flew that gyrocopter into the nation's capitol. doug hughes says the postal service intends to fire him for, quote, unacceptable conduct after he landed on the lawn of the capitol. hughes landed wearing a postal service uniform in a gyrocopter labelled with the postal service logo. he was carrying letters to congress as part of a political protest. next at 11:00 an assault rifle in an airport and it's perfectly legal? a pick dhaer is setting off a debate abolaws. a half million jewelry heist in virginia. the sophisticated crime that cracked a safe without tripping an alarm. a multimillion-dollar deal

when what is being called a cyclone capsized the ship. rescuers have been cutting holes in the hull in hopes of finding survivors. most of the passengers were elderly tourists enjoying a river cruise. jim? >> thank you, chris. more than 100 people gathered at vigil tonight for the woman shot and killed in a target parking lot tonight. sade adebayo. she was killed by her boyfriend monday night. the vigil was held at seneca valley high school where adebayo graduated. >> we just appreciate all the love that -- that y'all have been showing us and sade and her family. >> bricker is now in jail, charged with first-degree murder. investigators tell us adebayo dated bricker for about six months, but she had recently ended their relationship. well, this picture is generating a lot of discussion on social media about gun laws.

it's a man posing for a picture with his daughter while he carries a loaded semiautomatic rifle, an ar-15 at the terminal of hartsfield jackson airport in atlanta, georgia. that's one of the busiest airports in the country. >> but because it's georgia law and i'm within my right, i'm going to exercise them. >> he is absolutely right. it is legal to carry a rifle in public in georgia. that includes airports, as long as you do not try to get that gun through security. the washington monument is ready for visitors again. it will reopen tomorrow morning 9:00. now, the national park service tells us the problems that plagued the monument for the last few days are now fixed. it closed twice in the past week because of electrical issues with the elevator. a l.a. congressman in the state's national guard are appealing arlington national cemetery's decision to deny burial services to the family of a louisiana guardsman.

staff sergeant thomas florric died in a helicopter crash during a training exercise in march. one of the marines who died in the crash was buried at arlington, but not florric. they say burial plots are only for members who die on active duty. florric's father is a former green beret. he calls the decision a slap in the face. an inch of metal, three inches of concrete still not enough to stop some determined and prepared thieves in stafford, virginia. they got away with half a million dollars from princess jewelry. and to do it they cut down a fence they broke into a vacant business next door, and then they cut strategic holes in the wall to get into the room where the safe was located. they also cut the phone, the internet, and the security lines. it's not clear at this point if this crime is connected to similar break-ins in fairfax

county. it's a deal that could change the way you watch sports. for the first time ever the nfl will broadcast the game exclusively online. the league reached a big deal with yahoo to live stream the october 25th game between the buffalo bills and the jacksonville jaguars. that game will be played in london. the website recode says yahoo! paid at least $20 million for the gaming rights. the company's ceo promised the ultimate football experience designed for the modern fan. so we can watch it on our phones, the entire game. anywhere we want to go. >> the bills and jaguars, yay. >> woo-hoo. >> jacksonville they'll be excited. meanwhile, we have sweater weather and bad hair. what a beautiful combination. come on, on june 3rd. >> i apologize. this is like april weather, exactly right out there. a lot of people. yeah, i know exactly what it does. it does make noises. take a look outside right now. these are the numbers we're

looking at 63 degrees. winds out of the east at 9 miles per hour. and that easterly wind continues to give us that very moist flow. that's why we have the cloud cover. that's why we have the rain out there right now. temperatures 59 in leesburg. 57 in culpeper. these temperatures really have not moved much all day. they have gone up a degree, down a degree. the rain starting to move back in across our region. rain in montgomery county, down to the south. some coming right on through a portion of the beltway and over towards riverdale. towards clinton, maryland quantico fredericksburg, all seeing some rain. we'll zoom into this area right here. this is where some of the heavier rain is right along 17, between fredericksburg and the warrenton area. this will continue up towards warrenton over the next hour or two. look at the wider picture here. you notice we see a lot more rain making our way up across the region. we're not getting that break now. the rain is moving back. look at the clouds. to the north they were up near 70 degrees up near new york and philly today. but for us only around 64

degrees. and look at the low. look at this thing just spinning down here. we've got to get rid of that area of low pressure. that way we get rid of all the clouds moving up from the atlantic that will finally move out on friday. and that will make for some much nicer weather. first off, we've got tonight. tomorrow morning, yeah, i think some shower activity early tomorrow morning around that morning rush. so heads up. give yourself a little extra time. do not forget the umbrellas. do not forget the jackets. it's going to be another cool day tomorrow. the showers will be likely during the day. not everywhere. notice just a couple of them. but watch out for some areas of drizzle too. then they come in and could be more predominant during the evening hours. friday may start off with clouds and showers. watch what happens here. oh we get some break, some sunshine starts to return. and our temperatures get back up into the 70s. tomorrow, though nowhere near that 63 in gaithersburg. 65 in la plata with very cool numbers. as we move on through the next couple of days, say goodbye to the 60s. we may not see the 60s again until september or october.
