top of the beltway starting to see some slouw downs, so a warning there. prince george's county, looking good here. a little yellow in some spots. no major problems. not the same situation coming down 270 out of frederick. going about 23 miles per hour, until you get down to the damascus area and then it opens up down to the spur. back with travel times in ten minutes. >> thank you. we are getting a better idea of what led up to the deadly mansion murders in northwest d.c. later today, police are expected to release more search warrants. some of those details came out yesterday. news4's megan mcgrath with what we know right now. good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, aaron. you can see the police cruisers behind me here. police continue to watch over this house around the clock. now investigators have been going over the crime scene now for weeks and we are learning more about the kind of evidence they have found and what they are still looking for. according to search warrants just unsealed, police are looking at phone records for

jordan wallace. savvas savopoulos's personal assistant and driver. he delivered the $40,000 to the houses in the hours before the fire was set. now, wallace's movements are being looked at and they're looking at his text records. he is cooperating and has not been charged or named as a suspect. we have also learned that there was forced entry into the home. the french door was kicked in. a boot print or shoe print found on that door. and we are learning now that the victim's cell phones were stolen and are still missing. three cell phones still unknown exactly where they are. also stolen, the recording device for the security system at the home. now, daron wint, a former employee at the savopoulos's business, he is the only one charged in connection with this crime. however, police have said that they believe others are responsible and so the search for suspects continues. we are expecting to learn more

later on today when additional search warrants are unsealed. back to you in the studio. >> all right, megan, thank you. a lot of details we have seen so far. if you'd like to read them, we have posted them on the website nbcwashington.com. developing later this morning a judge will decide whether the media will be banned from covering a pretrial hearing for jesse matthew. the victim of a 2005 rape in fairfax is expected to testify today. the hearing is to determine if the victim can identify matthew as her attacker. attorneys for matthew say media coverage of her testimony today could taint the jury pool for his upcoming trial. matthew is of course also charged in the murder of uva student hannah graham. d.c. police this morning are investigating a sexual assault and kidnapping. a man attacked a woman walking in the 5100 block of ninth street in northwest. police say he forced the woman

inside of his car around midnight tuesday. then drove to an alley and raped her. police say the man was last seen driving an older model four-door red car. call police if you have any information. i'm molette green at the live desk with breaking news. new info just in about a shooting in bowie. take a look at the video there. police just told us a man shot multiple times is now in surgery. they found him in the backyard of a home in the 13000 block of 6th street just after 1:00 a.m. this is near old laurel bowie road. now police are still on the scene as you can see. there is no suspect description just yet. we'll bring you updates as we get them. back to you. 6:04 right now and we're working to learn whether a row house had working smoke

detectors. you first heard about this fire yesterday on "news4 today." well, last night firefighters canvassed the neighborhood around riggs place northwest and they passed out smoke detectors. five people were hurt and two died. firefighters are reminding you to contact them if you don't have a working smoke detector. >> what we're doing right now is canvassing the neighborhood to see who has actual working smoke detectors. if yours aren't working or too old, we'll give them out to you. >> it's good to see them out here. giving the community that support. >> now, the homeowner jumped out of the window to try to save his life. he is recovering at the hospital now and is expected to be okay. today, the search continues for a swimmer last seen in the potomac in fairfax county. two young men were swimming in the river yesterday afternoon in the sandy landing park. now one of the men was caught up by the strong current and disappeared. the second man got out okay. the search yesterday went on for about three hours. well, today rockville high school students will begin

he was carrying letters to congress as part of a political protest. the second highest ranking episcopal leader is headed to court today. heather cook is on trial for a drunk driving accident that killed a man on a bike. prosecutors say cook was drunk and texting when she hit 41-year-old tom poe her mow. her credentials have been revoked. and we just learned the death toll in china's cruise ship disaster is up. in the last hour, rescuers recovered ten more bodies. hiking their count to 75. china says bad weather forced them to call off today's desperate cutting operation on the ship's hull. the two portions opened so far turned up no survivors. the ship turned over after a tornado hit in central china. >> molette, thank you. in a few hours lawyers will tell a judge how long they need

to prepare for a retrial. in the case of a man convicted of killing chandra levy. the lawyers are pushing for a new trial. they say his old cell mate lied on the witness stand and that that testimony led to his conviction. her remains were found in rock creek park one year after disappearing. "the washington post" reporter held in iran heading back to court for another closed door hearing. the iranian government thinks that jason rezaian was a spy. the trial comes as the u.s. is in talks with iran over its nuclear program. some fear that if a nuclear deal is reached before this case is resolved the u.s. will have less leverage in pushing for rezaian's release. a well known d.c. teacher admits he sexually abused one of his students in the courtroom. giovanni pena confessed to touching the boy multiple times.

pena now in jail ahead of a bond hearing tomorrow. he was "the washington post" d.c. teacher of the year in 2011 and many of the parents are in disbelief. >> i'm troubled and disturbed like everybody else in school. my daughter here is scared. she says to me she's scared and i'm picking her up early today because of this incident. >> the victim was 9 and 10 years old as the abuse was happening. he described pena as a close family friend who went on vacation with his family. a louisiana congressman and a state's national guard are appealing arlington national cemetery's decision to deny burial services to a louisiana guardsman. staff sergeant florich died in a training exercise in march and the cemetery said space is limited and that he cannot be buried in arlington because the plots are only for service members who died on active duty.

florich's father is a former green beret and he calls it a slap in face. senator ted cruz is apologizing after making a joke about joe biden. he made the joke last night in michigan. the presidential hopeful put out a statement on twitter saying it was a mistake to use an old joke about the vice president during his time of grief. a developing story this morning. a former fifa executive now says he can prove a link between soccer's governing body and his nation's elections in 2010. jack warner spoke in trinidad and tobago last night. warner says he has documents and checks that implicate fifa officials including its president sepp blatter. warner says in his own 30 years with fifa, he was quote a heart beat away from blatter. >> i also will give them my knowledge of transactions at

95 a little slow in dale city. wide look at the beltway, looking normal for this time of the morning and the beltway overall looking pretty good and pretty green with the exception of the top of the beltway. i want to share something with you very special right now. i met some real heroes yesterday as i emceed the 26th annual rockville chamber of commerce public safety awards. i had about 300 people there at lakewood country club. those awards are given for bravery. i had a great time honoring 52 winners from rockville's police force, the volunteer fire department, montgomery county sheriff's office and department of correction. also had some civilians honored for helping a man after he was attacked last year in rockville. i was so honored to be there. a really wonderful group of people and very happy to share in their happiness yesterday. >> we appreciate the work they do for sure. melissa, thank you. hey, this morning you may have an e-mail or two from some of the nonprofits you supported in the past. today is united way's do more

about an isis inspired terror plot. sources tell nbc news two massachusetts men wanted to behead a blogger who encouraged people to draw the prophet muhammad. instead, the men then decided to attack the police officers and they discussed that plan last weekend apparently. 25-year-old david wright of everett, massachusetts, now behind bars. 26-year-old usaama rahim of boston was shot and killed after police -- after he lunged with a knife at a police officer and an fbi agent. rahim was under 4 hour a day surveillance when he bought knives with long blades online. the fbi confronted rahim just before he was to board a bus with one of those knives. and some other new details about the anthrax scare we have been telling you about. a military lab shipped out twice as many samples as was previously thought. they reached labs in 17 different states and three different countries and the pentagon says that number could grow. as many as 51 labs are affected

here. they're still trying to track down more than 400 anthrax samples. some lab workers are being treated right now as a precaution. officials say that there is no risk to the public. the cdc expected to stop all anthrax shipments until it's figured out what happened. police are trying to figure out what happened to a woman in frederick county maryland. officers were called to heather ridge drive in frederick yesterday afternoon. they found a woman's body inside an apartment. we did speak with police this morning and right now we are working to bring you more about what may have happened to her. the parents of a d.c. reporter are asking anyone for help finding their daughter's killer. yesterday, family members, co-workers and loved ones held a vigil for charnice milton. she wrote for the publication's hill rag and east of the river. well, last week, police say a man pulled milton in front of him to use as a human shield

during a shoot-out in the 2700 block. and friends happened out flyers to find out who's responsible for her death. representative jerry conley of virginia tried to amend the appropriations bill last night. the original bill calls for slashing funding for metro in half next year. connolly wanted to increase metro funding by $50 million. he was ruled out of order though. his moves were supported by another virginia and maryland lawmakers. time now is 6:35. today muriel bowser is headed to capitol hill. she's meeting with democratic leader harry reid. afterwards, she'll sit down with republican oklahoma senator james langford. he sits on two committees that deal with d.c.'s budget. bowser is also meeting with maryland senator barbara mikulski. starting today, thousands of d.c. residents will get a knock on the door from tax man.
