begin the notification process via e-mail. >> thanks, erika. this is the second time this year opm has dealt with a data breach. in january, a glitch exposed the personal information of retirees. opm screens and hires federal workers and provides security clearances for 90% of federal employees. we've also posted information for anyone impacted by this latest breach. just pull up the nbc washington app. there are new allegations against former house speaker dennis hastert. a montana woman telz abc news that hastert sexually abused her brother stephen reinboldt there on the left when reinboldt was a student and hastert was a teacher and wrestling coach before hastert was elected to congress. she told the associated press that the fbi interviewed her about the allegations last month. she says her brother told her before he died of aids in 1995 that his first homosexual contact was with hastert and the

abuse lasted through all of reinboldt's high school years. nbc news has not independently confirmed the story and has tried repeatedly to reach hastert with no success. these allegations are separate from the federal indictment that alleges hastert agreed to pay more than 3 million$3 million to someone to cover up prior sexual misconduct. >> three weeks after the house caught on fire, we're learning what police found when they arrested the suspect in the d.c. mansion murders. but there are still a lot more questions as investigators try to put this case together. news4's meagan fitzgerald is live at the victims' home in northwest. meagan, what are you hearing? >> reporter: oh, chris, at this point, police tell us the home is no longer considered a crime scene. it's been turned over to the family. but this case is far from over. we're learning more about the night police arrested 34-year-old daron wint. court documents say investigators found money orders, two knives, an iphone a verizon samsung phone along with other items inside the car wint

was riding in. the ford truck that was with wint was also searched. police seized money money orders, and a galaxy cell phone. hours after the mansion went up in flames, police got you a warrant to search the car of jordan wallace, the assistant to savvas savopoulos. they also took wallace's cell phone. savvas told wallace to deliver the $40,000 in cash but police say he lied to them about how and when the money was delivered. meanwhile, police say they're still looking for more evidence to include digital cameras weapons, and the shoe that matches this print. investigators say they found it on the back door of the house which suggests someone forced their way in. now jordan wallace has not been named a suspect or a person of interest in this case. police have not said if those cell phones they recovered are that of savvas, amy and the housekeeper. they said they are missing but no confirmation those cell

phones belong to them. >> meagan fitzgerald. thank you. tonight we're learning more about the victims killed in a row house fire in dupont circle. nina breckelman reese emtly graduated, a full bright scholar and avid runner. michael mclaughlin was an economics grand watt from the university of mareyland. they died in the fire. three firefightors are still trying to figure out what caused this fire. he will always be in their heart. that's what mourners said today about a little boy who was found dead on a maryland playground. he was only 3 years old and last month when police found him, his mother was still pushing him on a swing. she's still undergoing a medical emotion, but today was about saying good-bye. a lot of people what happen. >> reporter: we still don't know what killed jyier lee. the toddler was found lifeless on this playground last month. his mother had been pushing him

in the swing for hours and no one knows just how long. it was daybreak when someone noticed and called authorities. the questions stilllinger. so does the family's grief over the loss of a child. ♪ family and friends said good-bye at first baptist church of highland park in landover. there were nearly life-size pictures of jyier. there's a particular sadness of at the sight of a child-size coffin. >> people get used to older people dying. >> reporter: a kield who likes to dance who watched his favorite cartoons and aid child just months away from his fourth birthday, now grieved by an older brother, himself a child, seemingly too young to know this kind of sadness. >> he will be in my heart. >> reporter: it was obvious that in his short time he touched many hearts the way children do. a life of purity at its beginning. all those things folded into the eulogy delivered by first baptist reverend dr. henry davis. >> let's really just talk about the pureness of life when you

crime. . >> announcer: you're watching news4 at 6. he's accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend outside a target store. tonight we found out he wasn't allowed to have a gun because of his criminal record. news4's chris gordon is in rockville tonight with the plea from the victim's mother who says her daughter never really knew the man she dated. chris? >> reporter: well today here in court prosecutors called donald bricker a danger to the community, and the judge ordered him to remain in jail. and today, for the first time, the victim's mother spoke publicly. i spoke with her at her germantown home about bricker and her daughter. >> i never met the guy. i almost did, but it never happened. when they broke up she came to me and she told me that it was all over. >> reporter: cassandra atken

said the last time she spoke to her daughter was monday morning, but shade adebayo didn't tell her mother that evening she was going to go to target in germantown at the request of her ex-boyfriend donald bricker jr. bricker is charged with first degree murder for allegedly shooting adebayo in the parking lot. in court today, bricker was denied bond. he has a rape conviction from 2008 and is a reblged sex offender. cassandra atken said her daughter didn't know fw his past. >> i just want everybody to know all the children that if you meet anybody, it doesn't matter where you meet them please go and check on their background because you don't know. >> reporter: the shooting occurred the same day bricker received a gun he ordered by mail, a gun the prosecutor's office says he bought illegally. >> he circumvented the way the system has been set up for registered sex offenders. he ordered a replica antique firearm to use in the crime, and

he received that firearm on monday, and that night killed his estranged girlfriend. >> in my opinion, i think they should put him away, that he would never come out to hurt a soul. all the children that he had just messed up with he just don't need to be in society anymore. >> reporter: today here in court prosecutors said bricker made a statement to police, admitting that he shot his ex-girlfriend twice. that's the latest live in montgomery county. back to you. >> thanks, chris. there's still no sign of a swimmer who's been missing in the potomac river that authorities have called off the search for marco reyes sanchez for now. they'll head out again in the morning, but they think he got caught in a strong current wednesday and drowned near great falls park. >> we saw something today we haven't seen in quite a while. i had to search around to find the sunglasses. it made an appearance. >> i didn't get a chance. >> you didn't see it? >> did you see it?

that's where they'll stay. overnight tonight we'll see the potential for fog to develop. that could be an issue early tomorrow morning. i think we'll be okay, by around 9:00, 10:00, the fog will get out of here and we'll just be dealing with clouds. yes, we'll have clouds but also some sunshine mixed in. notice a couple of showers but that's it. light showers if any develop most of the day tomorrow on the dry side. really not worried about rain. then by 4:00 p.m., look at the clearing taking place. by tomorrow night we're in for a beautiful, beautiful saturday evening. i really think it will be quite nice no matter where you are. this is what's happening right now. the storm system that's been hanging down to the southwest is now finally to our east. you can see the clearing skies just to the west. also some thunderstorm activity back toward pittsburgh, but for us we're not seeing any of that during the next 24 hours. what we will see is a little bit of sunshine tomorrow, not a lot. still some clouds but we will see some sun. 81 in fredericksburg tomorrow

a faster way to travel could be coming to maryland and we're not talking about the purple line. governor larry hogan is getting an up-close look at high-speed rail. he gave this maglev train a test drive in central japan. governor hogan says he's interested in bringing a similar train to run between d.c. and baltimore. his office just applied for nearly $28 million in federal funds to bank role the project. jim handly is here with a closer

look. >> maglev is short for magnetic leviation. today there are systems in china japan and south korea. the trains travel at speeds of more than 300 miles an hour. that's double the speed of an acela. the train works by suspending, propelling and guiding vehicles using electromagnetic force. because there is no contact with the rails and no friction, vehicles can move pretty darn fast. the current world record by the way, 375 miles an hour. >> wow. that would change the way we get back and forth to baltimore. but not everyone is sold on this idea. we asked viewers to weigh in on the high-speed train proposal and the purple line. as you can see a lot of residents don't care much for either one. there are drivers who know where speed cameras are out there. they slow down for them and then take off again. so tonight prince george's county police are taking action. it's called the dragon cam a hand held cross between a radar

one of these people on these bikes may know who shot and killed a d.c. journalist. police say everyone on these dirt bikes is considered a person of interest. 27-year-old charnice milton was shot last week off good hope road southeast. tonight a family friend has a message for the bikers. >> the hope that i have is that one of the young ladies who is riding with these men will really have a crisis of conscience and you know, she'll come forward and she'll say something. >> right now friends and family are holding a wake for charnice milton. >> news4's darcy spencer just spoke to her dad. she's in southwest washington with his friend and what's happening now. >> reporter: well, chris that wake got under way at 6:00 here this evening at living word churchment you look here, people

are tipping to show up. i did speak to her father here within the last several minutes. he had a message for those people on dirt bikes. >> these are not strangers. these are not aliens saliens. these are individuals who live in this area who have a produced fear in this area. so the right thing to do is to bring them to justice. >> reporter: a plea from the parents of charnice milton for anyone who knows the persons of interest in their daughter's murder shown here on dirt bikes to come forward. >> if you know anything, to pick up the phone call 911. >> reporter: d.c. police are planning a new enforcement strategy to deal with dirt bikes, four-wheelers and other motorized bikes on the streets of d.c. they are illegal in the district, but many of the drivers know d.c. has a no-chance policy so they don't worry about getting pulled over. police say the gunman who shot and killed reporter charnice milton was on a dirt bike. they released surveillance video

of seven bikes and 14 people who are considered persons of interest in the murder. >> i hate them. they have most of the riders have no regard for children in the community. they ride on the sidewalks. so the bikes are a menace. >> reporter: milton's funeral will be held saturday at living word church in southwest d.c. >> her father called me to give me the tragic news. >> reporter: reverend eugene pastor of the church where milton and her family have worshipped for the past 15 years. >> she was such a wonderful young lady. i've never seen such innocence in my life. >> reporter: the tragic news was that milton had been murdered. now reverend sheppard will deliver the message at her funeral, a message to stop the violence and hate in the community. that wake again, got under way at 6:00. it wraps up is the 9:00 this evening. what could become a long legal drama starts monday in fairfax county. the prime suspect in hannah graham's murder wilin tried for

a separate crime a decade old. new at 6, david culver will be in court for jesse matthew's trial. he's here now. what can we expect? >> a pretrial hearing is any indication, this could be an emotional, passionate trial. one filled with riveting testimony. arguments also between some of the counsel, prosecution april the defense. yesterday the judge gave permission for the woman who accused matthew of sexual assault to identify him in front of a jury. this was a big setback for the defense who keeps telling the judge they need more time to prepare for this case. but monday's trial date has been set for months. now, the alleged victim already flew in thursday from india. she was not there for the start of yesterday's hearing. prosecutors told the judge she was too tired to testify yesterday. but the judge ordered she be woken up from her nap in a hotel room and be brought to court. on the stand, the victim told the judge she was attacked while walking home from a grocery store in fairfax. that happened back in 2005.

>> and that trial starts next week. >> that's right on monday. >> and we know that this case is related to the hannah graham case. this is in some ways a preview of that trial. >> there's some question as to how this is all connected. well, hannah's abduction and murder in charlottesville is really what gave police that forensic evidence to bring charges in this case. from the prosecution's perspective here, it took one tragedy, hannah's death and disappearance to solve another. upper marlboro county prosecutors will wait until after this trial to move on to the capital murder case. they could set a trial date for this by the end of the month. for right now, all eyes are going to be on what starts monday solely that fairfax case. and, if convicted, matthew could get three life sentences here before even going to trial in the hannah graham case. >> you'll be there monday. >> we will. >> david culver, thank you. she was just 15 days old when her father died. but a school trip to d.c. is helping this young girl keep his

memory alive. megan morales' father died in 2004. investigators say that officer marlon morales was at the u street metro station when he confronted someone who didn't pay the fare. the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him and officer morales died three days later. >> kids grew up without a mother. megan grew up without a father. she recently graduated from eighth grade, you know. he wasn't there to see that. >> a special ceremony was held at the national law enforcement officers' memorial. all of megan morales' classmates were able to attend. they traveled from illinois to d.c. for a class trip. elizabeth seton high school in prince george's county took time out to help one of their own today. carly carly nguyen learned she has a deadly form of leukemia. her doctors say she needs a bone

was afraid of. >> the things going on the kids, all theactivities, the interruption. you know, i wasn't sure how long it was going to put me out for. >> reporter: but what robert didn't realize at the time was that his doctor was using a new approach to help him recover more quickly. something called enhanced recovery after surgery. >> we're not doing this for cost savings or hospitals per se. we're doing this to make the patient feel better, get home and recover quicker. >> enhanced recovery involves a series of steps before, during and after surgery. it includes anesthesia drugs, making sure patients are up and walking around after surgery, and, most importantly, loading up on carbohydrates before the procedure. dr. robert sha sinski is a colon and recollect al surgeon. >> well, we just again looked at all the problems, why people were staying in hospital for a prolonged period of time. we looked at electrolytes and

starvation and nutrition and we found there's an impact by zaving the body by inhibiting it from receiving glucose or cash height draits. >> the doctor now has his patients drink 20 ounces of a sports drink about two hours before the surgery. that combined with the other measures, is helping many parents to leave the hospital faster. for example, those who have abdominal surgery typically spent five to seven days in the hospital. with this new kol protocol, they're leaving after two days. >> there's no reason to starve before surgery. it might not be as appetizing in that you're not going to have a large meal, but you'll be able to drink a carbohydrate drink that will satiate your appetite and make you feel better. >> the doctor says robert friess left the hospital about three days after surgery, and a few days later he was up and walking and even back to work. >> just like any other day. obviously i'm just happy to get out of there quicker. >> who wouldn't be? right now doctors at georgetown

d.c. police have set up a mobile command center downtown after a massive drug overdose at the district's largest homeless shelter. at least ten people overdosed today at the community for creative nonviolence. seven people had to be rushed to the hospital after using a synthetic marijuana. selling synthetic marijuana is illegal in the district maryland and virginia. soon anyone in virginia will have access to a drug that can save the life of someone who has overdosed on heroin. the first training class about narcan in our area is set for tomorrow. but as northern virginia bureau chief julie carey discovered, tracking down the drug at

pharmacies may take work. >> reporter: ginny atwood didn't know about naloxone in 2013 when she came home and discovered her brother christopher had overdosed on heroin. the 21-year-old died soon after. she and her parent created the chris atwood foundation, its goal helping to save others by making naloxone, narcan, more available. >> the sad fact is that overdoses have tripled in the last five years in northern virginia, and the reality of that is that people are going to die and this medication can do something about it. so we need to get it to as many people as possible. >> reporter: a state pilot program to get naloxone in the hands of parents, brothers sisters, laypeople just expanded to northern virginia. atwood will help provide instruction in the first training class this weekend. >> and you spray that half into one nostril and half in the other. >> reporter: these are the revive kit that's will be provided. all the equipment needed to administer the narcan to counteract the heroin or opioid

overdose. >> before too long it should be simple to walk up to the counter and get naloxone as you get sudafed. >> reporter: but as atwood discovered, not quite yet. she's been visiting pharmacies. we went along today as she discovered this pharmacy which told her last week it didn't have access to the drug now says it can order it in a day. >> oh, so it comes up when you search for naloxone. >> reporter: they are still requiring a prescription, though. >> i think that's just going to take a little time for word to trickle down to all the pharmacies. >> reporter: ginny atwood says the state pharmacy board is meeting in the coming weeks. after that, she'll expect guidelines to bring pharmacies up to speed and make sure they have naloxone on hand. julie carey, news4. when we all get a look at the sun, that grass is going to look greener than it did. >> aloft people will try to get out and cut the lawn later today or maybe tomorrow. but it will be kind of tough to do. the grass so wet it will be so
