county, virginia shutting down roads throughout the area. plus american pharoah races into history. the sports world pays tribute to the fantastic finish. tonight an urgent public health warning on the growing danger of synthetic marijuana. more people are suffering in the drug overdose outbreak. news 4's darcy spencer spoke to a teen who says he lost his brother to the drug. >> reporter: the young man i spoke to tonight is 17 years old, but he was 15 years old when he started smoking fake pot. it almost cost him his life. >> it's like marijuana times ten. like, it's crazy. >> stefan eichler talks about the reaction he had when he smoked synthetic marijuanament. >> i passed out in my room. i woke up and i was drenched in

sweat. >> reporter: he spoked the drug for about a month. he ended up addicted and in the hospital for days. >> yeah. i thought i was going to die. >> reporter: he quit using the synthetic drug not just because of what happened to him but because of what happened to his 22-year-old brother charlie. he took his own life after abusing k2. >> the first couple times he was like, okay. this is all right. i can do this. then before you know, it it's too late. >> reporter: in d.c. a spike in synthetic marijuana overdoses caused the mayor to issue a warning. dozens of people have been taken to the hospital after overdosing. health officials say the drugs are being marketed towards young people. >> it's very serious because essentially you have something that comes in a pretty package, but can be deadly. >> reporter: stefan james warns young people to stay away from the drugs they can kill you.

>> a lot of people are still very oblivious to what it could do to them. >> reporter: the good news for him, he did get a second chance. he's been able to make a full recovery. he also tells me -- i asked him why are so many people using synthetic marijuana? he says quite a number of people are using it because it doesn't show up on drug tests for people who are on probation. that explains it. a lot of young people may have been in trouble with the law and are now using it because it doesn't show up on tests. now to some breaking news. a two alarm fire in leesburg virginia. virginia that just came in shows heavy flames shooting out of this commercial building on sing street south of market. roads in the area have been blocked off. no word on what started the fire. it was a night of violence in the district. nine people were either stabbed or shot friday night into saturday morning. d.c. krc. police reported five

shootings and two stabbings overnight. three people were shot near martin luther king avenue in southwest washington. all three victims are expected to be okay. friends and family said a final good-bye to a local reporter gunned down in the district. the funeral for sharnice milt chbmilt dominguezon was held today. police released this surveillance video of 14 people they want to talk to in connection with the death. >> all of our childrens lives matter. >> mothers from across the country came here to washington today to draw attend shin to the human cost of violence in their communities. many sat on the steps of the lincoln memorial holding pictures of their sons brothers and sisters all lost to

violence. organizers say that homicide is now a public health epidemic. they want better victim services for families who lost a loved one. right now we've all enjoyed the weather today and tonight, will the warming trend continue? storm team 4 meteorologist amelia siegel joins us. >> high temperatures across the area today were in the upper 70s to low to mid 80s. washington today hit a high temperature of 85 degrees. here's a look at the high temperature today in your neighborhood. tomorrow widespread highs for the most part will be in the upper 70s. a high in washington of 79 degrees. our average high now about 83. after tomorrow every single day out of the next seven will be above our normal high which is about 83. we could see our first heat wave of the year. i'll have more on the numbers

a first of its kind training class in northern virginia will teach people how to administer a life saving drug when they're with someone who overdoses. training was held today at northern virginia community college. it is possible thanks to a new law that would make the drug available to anyone, even without a prescription. the drug is used to counter act the potential fatal impact of heroin during an overdose. >> it is not just for people who overdosed on heroin, but for your grandma who took percocet for a hip replacement and forgot she took a dose that morning and takes another one and is having signs of overdose. >> so far at least 25 people signed up for the state's pilot training program. some of our nation's bravest heroes and veterans took over
