attempted murder, and adduction related to a 2005 case. the victim says she was abducted in 2005. matthews pleaded not guilty to all chargings. we are tweeting from inside the courtroom. matthews is also charged with the murder of hannah graham. >> we continue following the story in upstate new york. a massive man hunt for two prisoners. the prisoners broke out of a facility in upstate new york about 20 miles from the canadian boarders. officials noted the men were missing during a bed check. both men are serving life sentences for murder. they used power tools to cut through steel pipes smashed through a brick wall and escapes. the governor says this is a crisis situation because these men could be anywhere.

isis. he made these remarks at a news conference marking tend of the meeting of g7 meeting in germany. the president adding that the pentagon is reviewing plans to ramp up training and help iraqi forces. >> a d.c. school is closed because there's no water. a water main broke an alabama avenue near turner elementary. they shut down the road. d.c. water is working to fix the break right now. they have not said when crews will be done. new this hour news four has learned a woman is dead this morning after a kwud rupl stabbing. police say two men and two women were stabbed. police are now searching for any other suspects at this time. this is one of two stabbings in d.c. yesterday. >> this morning crews are wac at it trying to find a missing

swimmer in howard county. the man disappeared yesterday at a state park and did not resurface. his name has not been released. police say signs nearby say no swimming. this comes just a few days after another swimmer in montgomery county disappeared. for now the fire department has suspended its search. two young men were swimming in the potomac river on we understand. one was caught up by the strong current and disappeared. the second man was able to get out okay. >> the rail riders could be in for a new trip today. this is making its red line debut. this happened just a few hours ago. the 7,000 series cars updated. they have updated seating and flooring, a more open layout and digital displays on board. this is the second 7,000 series car in the system. the other one is running on the blue line. and we're waiting to hear what led to a deadly shooting on the

trending online today, everybody is talking about american pharoah's big win. he was the first horse to win the triple crown in 37 years. the jockey who road him says he plans to give his pay all to charity. he said he's donating all the money he won at the belmont stakes to city of hope. that's a cancer research city in california. the center will receive $80,000. and kate moss is making headlines today too. i'm sure you've probably seen this online because she was reportedly kicked off a plane. the airline said the supermodel was being disruptive. she was traveling from turkey to london at the time.

new this morning, oscar pistorius may be leaving prison for home this summer. the south afternoon prison officials recommended that pistorius be released in august. and finish his five-year sentence on house arrest.

this is based on good behavior and that pistorius will have served one sixth of his sentence. the olympic athlete was convicted for killing his girlfriend. prosecutors think pistorius should have been convicted of murder. their appeal goes before a judge in november. >> thank you, christen. new this this morning, the mother of a washington post reporter is on trial -- her son is on trial in iran and she is making a desperate plea for his release. he has been heldhan a year. he's accused of spying in an exclusive interview with the toesht associated press, his mother says he's innocent. she says he's tired and distressed and she has only seen his twice and his case remains shrouded in mystery. >> i have no news. i have no idea how many more sessions there will be. and i was not permitted to go to the first or the second session.

>> her son's trial began today. it is closed to the public. his wife still faces charges but has been released on bail. >> a lot of you are talking about shocking video today. a white police officer in texas pulled his gun on a group of black teenagers. the officer is on leave right now. nbc's jacob rascon tells us how police are investigating today. >> reporter: the video shows a texas police officer throwing down a 14-year-old girl in a bikini and then pulling his service weapon on two boys. three officers initially responded to a disturbance at a party at a community pool. cameras didn't capture what led up to the fistfight or anything else before police arrived but when they did, one officer is seen trying to reason with the

crowd. >> don't take off running when the cops get her. >> reporter: another takes a much more direct approach. >> get on the ground. i told you to stay. get down on the ground. >> reporter: after warning a group of girls to get back, the officer had enough. this person captured a different angle. >> why are you holding her down? >> i was surprised really surprised. i didn't even, i didn't even comprehend it. >> our initial reaction was to put the officer on administrative leave so we can complete an investigation of the incident. >> reporter: internal affairs is now taking the case deciding the fate of an office who's caught on camera antics may have crashed more than just a party. for "today," jacob rascon, nbc news los angeles. >> a bit of a cringe worthy moment for the president today.

watch this. after a group photo the president chatted with the head to the imf and the italian prime minister but iraqi prime minister is completely unnoticed when he sits down to join with them. obama keeps his back to the prime minister of iraq and then gets up. he eventually slugged and walkhrugged and walked away. they sat down for a one on one session a little while ago and maybe if he knew about it he apologized. >> as you have been hearing from us all morning long a threat for strong to severe weather coming our way later this afternoon. here's the threat for the storm prediction senor incenter in norman. this yellow area is light risk and enhanced risk south of town. timing of this between 3:00 and 9:00 this afternoon into the evening. radar right now, nothing out there as of yet.

still waiting on the showers to get going. a couple of showers north of hagerstown and more organized bans across ohio and kentucky. that's part of the weather front coming our way. next -- it's going to be a hot one. >> tropical storm blanca has made land fall. the storm started as a category four hurricane. it was downgraded to a tropical depression. there were winds up to 45 miles per hour. high surf expected throughout today and tomorrow. this is the earliest land fall on the baja california peninsula. >> apple is poised to make a huge move into the world of streaming music today. the tech giant is hosting its worldwide developers conference in san francisco. apple expected to unveil a new subscription music streaming service. it would be a challenge to

spotify. this is a rapidly expanding market. more people are streaming songs instead of down loading them. we could also see new operating systems for your iphone or ipad and enhancements for apple pay. one source saying we're not going to see an apple tv today informal we'll have to wait and see. one other important element to watch for today, will apple have a female keynote speaker in the ceo is hinting as much in an interview with mashable, cook says you'll see a change tomorrow. that was yesterday, the comment comes as companies like apple face scrutiny over a lack of female leadership. and the women's world cup is underway. this is the germany. germany won the match 10-0. germany is ranked number one. the u.s. is ranked number 2. today the u.s. will take on australia.

you might have noticed the google doodle in honor of the women's world cup in soccer for 2015. >> in some graduations, all graduates are wearing the same robes. some high schools chose to have gender neutral graduation robes color wise. men and female usually wear two different colors. five other high schools plan to make the changes next year. it's left up to each high school. young people have been flocking to the nation's capitol but they're not the only ones. a new survey says arlington and aleck alexandria rank number two on the best place to retire. the two northern virginia communities are the only places on the east coast to make the top five. phoenix came in at number one.

breaking news, a police officer in south carolina charged in the murder of a man who had a broken talt has been indicted by a grand jury. north charleston police officer makel michael slager. slager was pulling scott over for the broken day light when scott got out of the car and ran. again, the officer indicted for murder. >> thank you, christen. crews in california say they are nearly halfway done cleaning up parts of the coastline affected by an oil spill. that comes amid new questions from lawmakers for the company that built the pipeline.

the last week of may was 11 degrees warmer than the first week of june. not to mention we had only.01 inches of rain in june. temperatures right now on their way up into the 70s and 80s across the area. in the upper 80s for the highs today. 60% of thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening and then getting warm. mid 90s warm toward thursdays and friday. >> a little too warm if you ask me but we'll take it. a 27-year-old man in serious condition after his car slammed into a tree. this may have happened after an altercation between that man and a group of people. police say they've spoken to the people who may have been involved in the incident. as you can see, the car hit so hard the engine completely separated from the car. investigators will look into whether speed or alcohol played

the morning the december trat around the clock man hunt for two killers. >> they could be anywhere. >> reporter: some 250 heavily armed officers with canines combing the woods, searching cemeteries and schools for convicts david sweat and richard matt. sweat was serving life after killing a sheriff's deputy shooting him 22 times. matt serving 25 to life for killing and dismembering his bos. they were discovered missing early saturday morning breaking out of prison with power tools. >> we did not recover smis sophisticateing cutting tools. >> the escape, 25 miles from canada retraced by the new york governor who called it elaborate and sophisticated. he says the prisoners in sidely

matthews is charged with attempted murder an wux and sexual assault in this case. a woman was walking home from a grocery store in fair faction. he is accused of dragging her into a wooded area and raining her. he was charged in the cold case after he was arrested in uva student hannah grapham's disappearance. he could face the death penalty in that case. today's jury selection could take all day and go into tomorrow. make sure to follow us on twitter. it was a violent end to the weekend in the district. police say one woman is today and seven other people injured in two quadruple stabbings. a man is under arrest today for one attack. late last night two men and two women were stabbed a few blocks from u street.

this man is serving life in prison right now and we're learning more about why. he pleaded guilty to killing 16 civilians in afghanistan. that was three years ago. a newspaper in washington has learned that he asked for a reduced sentence last year. bails said he lost compassion for civilians on his fourth combat tour. he said his mind was, quote, consumed by war. you're also talking about bart simpson online today as well. his greatest enemy is finally going to win out this year. the producers said side show bob will finally kill bart which he's been trying to do for

a developing story. the northern colorado serial shooter may have struck again. a woman was driving on the interstate when her car windows shattered out of nowhere. several cars have had their windows shattered in that same stretch of road. police in colorado say they don't have any physical evidence to tie the reports together, but they say the same person could be behind the incidents.

right now we are waiting to see whether dennis hastert says anything about the accusations he's facing today. he's accused of lying of the fbi and trying to cover up a relationship with a student years ago. the former students are also talking. we have more on what they're saying. >> reporter: he was once at the pinnacle of hour but this morning former house speaker dennis hastert is in hiding. his long time chief of staff isn't saying much about his former boss's indictment. >> i don't know anything about it. i haven't worked for the man in nine years. >> reporter: today the question remains, what is individual a., the person he agreed to pay $3.5 million to hide past misconduct. he's charged with lying to the fbi. >> did you have any indication
