news out of new york city. take a look at this live video we are getting. two buses collided inside the lincoln tunnel. at this point we don't have video of thet you are looking outside the center tube as we take this live look. we've been watching as passengers and buses like this have been slowly making their way out of the tunnel. some people have been taken out of that tunnel by foot. also on stretchers. traffic, meanwhile, paralyzed in this area as crews, numerous crews continue to clear the reck and help some of victims. sources say a transit bus was rear ended by a private bus. >> take a look. chopper four threw over theflew over a crash in maryland. it happened on the southbound ramp en route 301 at shortcut

attack. christy davis of alabama died. the department of defense says someone fired on an bashs where davis worked. the strike was indirect and not tarting anyone in particular. it's not clear who's responsible for the attack. we are at the live deck. right now transportation experts are talking about ways to prevent future tragedies on the rails. this as we get our hands on a new report from the ntsb on the deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia. they are now saying the engineer was not using his phone at the time of the crash. they say no indications of calls, text messages or data usage or an attempt to access the train's wifi. they investigated the phone and data records following the derailment lastment. eight people died and hundreds were hurt.

caitlyn jenner. she gave an autographed copy of her "vanity fair" cover. the daily mail reports the 65-year-old jenner underwent interest augmentation and other procedures to her face and body. jenner has made headlines since she said she was a woman in a man's body. the caitlyn jenner story is changing the conversation about transgender people and joining us is a doctor to talk about this. can you first explain the difference between gender identity and sexual identity? >> sure. gender identity the what you feel like psychologically. somebody who's transgender feels like they're one gender when they're another gender. sexual identity is who you're attracted to. >> do most people who become transgender eventually identify themselves as that feel these things from early childhood.

>> a lot of them do. they've looked at studies looking at children and they found that only 25% of the children when you follow them through into adulthood will continue to identify as transgender. so for the majority of them it's like a phase that they will change and they will start to identify more as their own buy logical gender. >> if parents have a child who doesn't want to wear a dress a little girl who wants to wear boy clothes or does tomboy things, should they worry, i don't want to say worry should they be sensitive that it could be the beginning of a gender identity question? >> it could be. you need to know your child. you need to be senseitive to your child. it's possible that may end up being gavey. you just need to be aware of this stuff. i wouldn't freak out if i were a parent and my child were saying something like that but if it

matthews in uva's. we're in close contact with david cull ver right now and we'll continue to bring you anything that is significant throughout the hour. >> we're staying on top of a developing story. in upstate new york, police retracing their steps athey search for two killers who escaped from a prison. they are searching homes in the area. we have the report on the investigation inside the prison. >> reporter: on the run five days now, investigators are on the trail of murders dav sweat and richard matt following leads not just here but also here. 51-year-old joyce mitchel, a soup vier who worked with sweat and matt has been identified as a person of interest. on the day the inmates were reported missing.

>> stay on the look out for two escapees. >> mitchel complained of a panic attack. could the inmates have used here. >> reporter: we spoke by phone to a convicted murder. we agreed to disguise his voice because he fears for his safety. >> people that that are close to me, this is a very psychotic individual. >> reporter: 40 miles from the prison wall they cut through in the manhole they escaped from they were found running into these fields. an intense man hunt. with hundreds of tips pouring in investigators are search tale teams across the region but these are the conditions they face. thick terrain all across the area. authorities are reaching out to those who knew the fugitives,

including richard matt's 23-year-old son. this morning police say there's no word or sign of the inmates. but in communities like this there's fear they could kill again. right now on capitol hill, senators are looking into passenger rail safety. that follows amtrak's trailment. and this morning a second report released saying the train's engineer was not using his cell phone at the time of the derailment. eight people died and hundreds were hurt in the accident. that hearing took place as the they voted to cut funding for amtrak. the massive transportation and housing bill cuts amtrak's budget by $242 million but the bill includes $9 million for cameras inside cabs. president obama has threatened to veto the bill.

a man's death being investigated. last night officers found the man unconscious on saint claire drive. they say he was involved with a fight with a group of people and someone fired a gun during the altercation altercation. not a lot of great memories today from a graduation ceremony out west. take a look at this scene. you can see they were throwing punches at a high school graduation in las vegas. it breaks out into an all outbrawl. you can see some adults are trying to break it up. university of las vegas say the fight started with a disagreement over seats. wild fires in central can raada are spreading fast. smoke is blowing in the u.s. you're not supposed to be able to smell it but you may see it

a developing story this morning. a police officer in texas caught on camera using what some are calling excessive force may be facing charges. we have a latest. >> reporter: this morning the texas police officer shown in this video is off the force. the 40-year-old officer seen pushing a 15-year-old girl to the ground. and pointing his gun at other teens turned in his badge late tuesday. according to the police chief. >> the actions of case bolt as seen on the video are indefensive. >> reporter: the cell phone video has been viewed more than 15 million people. >> i was in the middle of a group of black people and they

jenner and all of the conversation that's been generated about that. are we seeing more people identify as transgender now than ten years ago? >> i think time will tell. it's about one in 30,000 buy logical men will identify as transgender and one in 100,000 women. i can tell you my experience as a psychiatrist for 14 years in practice, up until this year i never treated somebody who was identifying as transgender but in the last year i've had four patients. >> what's making the difrs in. >> i don't know. i think it could be that people are feeling more comfortable with this and feeling like they can talk about it a little bit more. i talked to one of my patients and i said i explained the statistic and asked why i'm seeing more of it. >> they said they've always felt something was wrong but they were able to figure out what might the term to identify how they're feeling. >> i guess caitlyn jenner coming

it was no thunder. it was lightning bolt and crash and out of the blue. >> a young boy hit by lightning is alive thanks to quick thinking by a surf instructor. it happened in daytona beach. the instructor jumped in and started cpr on the boy who was unconscious. the boy remains in serious condition today. twin girls who were once conjoined are at home in texas. they went through a series of complicated operations in february to separate them. natalie headed home from the hospital last month, the sister joined them at home yesterday. this is the first time in 14 months the entire family all are living together. great news for them. this morning a dog is being called a hero for helping save his owner. the service dog jumped in front of a bus to protect his owner

this truck overturned at the height of rush hour in southern new jersey. cartens of apple juice spilled all over the roadway. a car was also involved. no one was hurt but it took hours to get it cleaned up and get the road reopened. >> a man was driving an a suspended license when he lost control of his car. he ran off the road, hit several trees and the car burst into flames. the trooper said the car doors were locked so he had to punch through a window to get the trapped man. >> at that time i could feel the fire on my face. i just swung. >> both men are okay today. the trooper was just hoping the car would not explode explode. a nice june day today. hazy sun shine. the haze for the reminder of the day that will clear out overnight tonight.
