we start with a student's arrest. he says he is ecstatic that charges against him have been dropped. he was arrested outside of a charlottesville pub in march. pictures and videos showed him pinned to the ground his face bloodied. the commonwealth attorney decided to dismiss the two dis misdemeanor charges.ice investigation. >> thank you. right now d.c. police are searching for the driver who caused a deadly crash. one person died and several for hurt and the cared crashed just after midnight. it happened on first sterling avenue southeast and in the berry farm area. we are live with more on the search for that missing driver.

>> reporter: well, police believe that dreyer was likely hurt in this accident but despite the injuries he was able to get himself out of the car and run away, and he's still on the loose. the mangled cars speak to the violence of the collision. a witness tells police that the striking car, the volvo was traveling very fast. at first sterling slammed into another car turning left. both vehicles ended up in a field of debris in the intersection. several people were trapped but when police arrived the driver of the volvo was nowhere to be found. he ran away. one of the passengers also tried to run but hurt he didn't get far. police found a loaded gun on him. >> the driver of the vehicle is still at large. there was a passenger in the vehicle who tried to flee as well and he didn't make it far

because of his injuries. he was stopped and had a weapon and was police placed under arrest. >> one of the persons hit died at the hospital. police are trying to track the missing driver. there are surveillance cameras at the intersection that may have captured the crash. >> reporter: police have not released the name of the person who was killed. they have still trying to contact the person's next of kin. anyone with information on the driver who ran away you're asked to call police. in southeast, megan mcgrath, news 4. and temperatures in the mid to upper 80s across the area. washington at 86. hazy hot and humid. day two of the heat wave. this is how it feels outside already close to 100 degrees in leesburg. feeling about 94 in washington.

attacking a rider on a metro train. this video is disturbing. police say 52-year-old william nelson is seen punching a man repeatedly. it happened aboard a southbound green line train around 1:00 on sunday morning the co-pilot accused of crashing a german wings flight researched how to get ahold of deadly drugs. we're also learning he visited $41 41 doctors. it's still not clear why he took down that flight. his family says he was spiraling toward a mental disaster. we're learning that some doctors told prosecutors they thought he was too unstable to fly. >> here's a live look now over the capital where a lot of folks who work are concerned about a breech of federal worker's privacy. we're learning all federal workers may have been targeted

in a recent data breach. they say it's worse than the administration wants to admit. they came they stole all personnel data and social security for every federal worker but opm claims the hack affected just over 4 million active and former federal workers. a record outpouring of support for a student who needs a life saving surgery. she needs a bone marrow transplant. we told you about her last week. our friends held a drive to find a match for the 17-year-old. the station says they broke their record for swabs at one event. all of swabs are sent to new york story help someone across the country as well and we'll keep you posted on how they do. >> that's a wonderful great. >> it's great and it's wonderful that so many people came out and volunteered to be that person who would give her the

morning. we're starting to see tweets about president obama's last-minute trip to capitol hill. tracie potts is on the hill with the latest for us. >> reporter: we just got word president obama heads capitol hill this morning to fight for this trade deal with the pacific rim. he's going to be talking to democrats, interestingly they're on the other side on this one. he's been trying to convince democrats to support him. they're worried the trade deal which would open trade ware barriers between the u.s. and other nations could cost american jobs. two critical votes on that this morning. one about fast tracking the deal. . the other is for assistance for the people who lose their jobs. something democrats would support but in this case they and the unions who are lobbying them feel if they can get rid of that the whole deal they don't like will fall apart.

president obama is here making a last ditch attempt to get this done. we'll continue to follow it as the votes unroll today. >> thanks. a rhode island man is due in federal court today in connection with with a foiled terror plot in boston. a man was arrested last night. the specific charges against him are unclear. this is part of the same investigation that led members of a terrorism task force to shoot and kill in boston last week. police say he charged at them with a knife. raheim east family disputes that event. the fbi says he and another man were planning to behead police officers. >> reporter: take a look at this. a huge rock slide happened yesterday. you can see in the top right of your screen, the camera appears to shake. eight boulders each weighing around a ton fell onto the road. the soil became loose after heavy rains.

afternoon showers and thunderstorms that we've become accustomed to in the summer months, today we expect a clarification on maryland free range parents. a maryland was investigated after letting their six and ten-year-old walk home alone and they are at the center of the debate. essentially the maryland child protective services is saying it's not considered neglect. it's a parenting choice. officials clarified the stance saying we see our role as responding when a child is at significant risk of harm or harmed. >> reporter: two d.c. police officers could have to pay the district more than $200,000 for enrollment fraud. the officers claim they lived in the district and sent their children to d.c. public schools between 2003 and 2013. they lived in maryland and virginia. district law says nonresidents have to pay for each student

a second straight day of june heat. it's hot out there. we're also tracking the chance of rain with thunder showers. >> kriswe begin with the intensifying man hunt for two escaped inmates in new york. >> reporter: this morning more officers are moving in to help out with the man hunt and investigators are learning a lot more about what happened in the prison before the escape. for the second straight day the man hunt is focussed on 20 to 30 acres, about three miles from the maximum security prison they escaped. >> everyone has shotguns and rifles and pistols. >> reporter: more than 500 officers and federal agents pushing through the thick brush that could provide countless places to hide.
