right now on news 4 today that breaking news out of dallas, texas. look at this dramatic video. a man on the upper left of your screen ran into a police vehicle. a community is being evacuated because of the stand off. in iowa, police are looking at what led to a deadly mall shooting. another hot and humid day with the chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. i'll have the latest timing in my forecast. pride weekend takes over the district. good morning, everyone.

obviously a very busy morning already on this saturday. i'm angels of anaheim. >> i eem david culver. when do we get a break from the heat? >> into the upcoming week it is going to remain hot and humid. temperatures a touch cooler than they were yesterday. the humidity still high and feeling muggy outside. we are already in the 70s right now. low to mid-70s across the area and we are dry. you can see 75 in washington. 78 in gaithersburg as well as manassas. washington hit 90. most other spots, mid to upper 80s. when i say only, it is cooler than yesterday. when you factor in the humidity in the afternoon hours, it will feel like temperatures are in the mid to upper 90s. 87 for a high in leesburg. 85 for a high in annapolis and scattered mid afternoon showers.

storm team 4 radar dry. some activity making its way through western maryland. as it continues through, it is going to fizzle out. i will show you future weather in a bit tracking scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. and a better chance actually, for rain on sunday. >> we'll check in with you then. as the heat and humidity linger. several cooler centers are popping up. we have more information on our nbc washington app. breaking news right now out of texas. a bag exploded following a shooting at the dallas police headquarters. police are working two separate scenes. we are going to break it down for you. first, look at the dramatic video. a driver ramming a police car.

[ gunfire ] >> you heard what followed, several shots of gunfire. the driver of the van then taking off. police following him. >> police have evacuated a neighborhood where they have the suspect surrounded. this is just outside dallas. police found at least one pipe bomb in a bag left at the police headquarters. four suspicious bags were left there in total. the dallas police chief says no officers were hurt in this shooting. he say this is is the first time his department has been under attack. >> staying on top of that story and following breaking news out of iowa. one woman is dead and one in custody following a shooting outside iowa city. this shooting happened at the coral ridge mall. iowa state patrol arrested one person on interstate 80 in connection with the shooting. police are looking into what led to up to it.

two people being treated after an accident at california's great amusement park. it happened at the park in santa clara. it happened on the flight deck roller coaster. a witness told our nbc bay area affiliate, it was hit by a train. guests are being treated for an injured hand. we are following a developing story out of new york. a prison worker pleaded not guilty in connection with the big jailbreak. joyce mitchell is accused of providing material assistance to two killers who escaped. she faces eight years in prison if convicted. she works at the clinton correctional facility. sweat and matt are still on the run. jay gray reports on the arrest and manhunt. >> reporter: almost a week after investigators say she helped two convicted killers break out of the maximum security prison

where she worked joyce mitchell was formally charged in the escape. >> promoting contraband and facilitation, fourth degree a class a misdemeanor. >> the 51-year-old was a supervisor in the tailor shop in fact prison where she met and developed a relationship. mitchell was supposed to drive the get away car instead drove to a hospital suffering from a panic attack. she's provided key information as the manhunt continues. >> we are getting closer every step we take. >> reporter: choppers outfitted with infrared equipment hover over the zone while 800 officers and agents work through the rugged forest three miles from the prison. police commanders spoke directly to the men they think may be hiding there. we have a message for david

welcome back. trending this morning online, bad news for jennie's ice cream t. ohio based ice cream maker found another listeria contamination. they just reopened may 22nd after an april listeria contamination. they shut down all shops and said in the statement, it is trying to trace that contamination. also new this morning, this is making the rounds online. l.a. police arresting former "full house" star john stamos for a dui in beverly hills. they got several calls the

51-year-old was driving erratically. he was admitted to a hospital for a medical condition. finally this is the big story. the internet fired up this morning over this washington state civil rights leader who apparently lied about being black. rachel is the head of the naacp in spokane. her parents say she's been lying about her racial background telling people she's black when she's, in fact, a white woman. david, i know you have more on this. >> we are hearing from the naacp on this. it stands behind her saying racial identity doesn't qualify as leadership. the controversy raced difficult questions about lying about race and identity. ron allen has more on how her parents say she's reinventing reality. >> she's the head of the naacp in spokane. an outspoken civil rights activist, part time instructor of african-american studies.

she raised a lot of eyebrows with this answer to her question about race from a local reporter. >> is that your dad? >> yeah that's my dad. >> this man is your father? right there? >> you have a question about that? >> yes, ma'am. i was wondering if your dad is an african-american man? >> that's a very -- i don't know what you are implying. >> are you african-american? >> i don't understand the question. i did tell you, yes, that's my dad. he was unable to come in january. >> are your parents, are they white? >> now, her parents have come forward to say she's white. >> she wants to recreate reality. she wants to invent it herself. >> they say their ancestry is czech, swedish and german. for years, her daughter has been misleading people.

it trapped two vehicles near bethesda chevy chase high school. a 74-year-old ten-inch water main broke and forced the road to close. some customers left without water. fortunately, no one hurt. this morning, a university of virginia student wants to move on with his life after charges were dropped against him. they did not have a reason to stop him. >> that was the most appalling moment for me, being able to look back and see the blood dripping down my face. all my peers standing around to watch. >> johnson does not think the officers should face charges because he doesn't think it would benefit society. he's going to intern on capitol hill this summer. hillary clinton's first campaign rally in new york will

thunderstorms developing across the area. everybody has the chance of rain today. not everybody gets rain. 7:00 p.m. notice the yellows the oranges, the red. that is heavy rain. because of the humidity, heavy rain is possible today and tomorrow. now, here is future weather for tomorrow. sunday, 7:00 a.m. we are going to have more clouds around tomorrow than sunshine as we get into the afternoon and evening hours, tracking scattered showers and thunderstorms. more widespread tomorrow. notice the bright color showing up once again. heavy rain in the forecast for tomorrow. also, you can't rule out strong winds tomorrow and potentially areas of isolated flash flooding. high temperatures tomorrow, similar to today. a high in washington of 89 for sunday. 84 in hagerstown and 87 for a high temperature in culpeper. again, mostly cloudy skies tomorrow and a 60% chance you are dealing with rain for your sunday. on monday, a high temperature of 92 degrees, mostly cloudy skies

with a chance of scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. tuesday, much of the same, a high temperature of 93 degrees. if we do hit 90 today it would be the second heat wave of the year. the weather threat, a better chance we are tracking some, not widespread, but some severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. the biggest concern is heavy rain that leads to flash flood, reduced visibility. some storms contain high wind that is contain wind damage and hail as well. after tuesday, the humidity will drop a little bit wednesday through friday. you can see temperatures also fall a little bit. still remain in the upper 80s. the chance of showers and thunderstorms returns to the forecast thursday and friday. >> thanks amelia. raising a glass in their honor. how a wine company paid tribute to veterans one bottle at a time. >> a powerful story.

[ gunfire ] >> reporter: on october 3rd 2009, 400 taliban fighters attacked a small outpost of 53 u.s. soldiers in afghanistan. 21-year-old army specialist stefan mace from virginia just finished duty, but ran back to his post to help his fellow soldiers. he died that day. the next day, his mother vanessa, received a knock on her door. >> i don't remember whether i fell to the ground or fell into my husband's arms, but i remember going outside and screaming on the front porch. >> reporter: she says her son was the kid everyone loved. he was funny and fun loving. he also had a strong sense of duty and wanted to serve the military to make a difference in his country. >> you are trying to not only remember your child, but for

breaking news out of texas. there has been an explosion following a shooting at the dallas police department headquarters overnight. police found another package under a police truck in the parking lot as well. there are three scenes for us to break down for you. take a look at this dramatic video. >> very dramatic. a driver rammed a police car. you may be able to hear some of the several shots that were fired. at the second scene, a neighborhood evacuated. the third scene, police looking into a suspicious package in dallas. this weekend, in other news, the 40th anniversary of capitol pride. it steps off at 4:30 this

rain that could impact the end of the parade. right now we are already in the low to mid-70s. 75 in washington. the mugginess is in the air. coming up in the full forecast, i'll have more on the potential for thunderstorms later today. >> thanks, amelia. new this morning, passengers forced to leave a plane following a fuel leak. it happened on this allegiant flight from los angeles to boise, idaho. investigators say there was a fuel leak on the auxiliary motor used for taxiing. as you can tell from the picture, it is not photo shopped, folks they are standing on the wings. >> incredible. this morning a local family grieving the loss of a loved one for the second time in less than a year. the woman who died in a hit and family that lost two relatives in a crash last year.

darcy spencer has more on this family's tragedy. >> reporter: she cannot hold back her tears as she talks about losing her sister in a car crash. >> as i spoke to her last night through facebook. we were talking about father's day. >> reporter: octavia was a passenger in a car struck by a hit and run driver. she was heading home from washington hospital center with some co-workers. >> my sister was sweet. she was loving. she always worked all the time. >> reporter: the loss is hard for this family. tillman was cousins with tameka curtis and wilkinson, sisters who died in a crash last october. that crash claimed five lives and left ten children without their moms. >> in a car crash, it makes me not want to get in the car.

>> reporter: the crash that took tillman's life happened before midnight near the entrance to the suitland parkway in southeast. the driver of the striking car ran away. >> i just hope that they catch them because it was not right. he took my sister's life. now a news 4 i-team investigation. this summer a catholic priest will be sentenced for sexually assaulting a woman on an airplane. it happened on a flight from philadelphia to los angeles. the priest is the latest in a series of men who were convicted of touching other passengers on flight. there have been several cases of sexual assault aboard flights to dulles international and reagan. the man convicted in the case out of california is a catholic priest. the feds say he touched a fellow

passenger's buttocks, breast and grain. the passenger was asleep when the assault began and woke up to find the priest's hands on her body. police arrested a man for molesting a 15-year-old girl in a flight to dulles. these cases are a challenge because the victims and witnesses are strangers to quickly leave the scene. >> if we don't find our witnesses or victims or suspects now, an hour from now they will be at the four corners of the earth. >> while the i-team's investigation into these crimes found another problem no federal agency was keeping count to see the i-team's full investigation into the airborne assaults, go to www.nbcwashington.com and search investigations. >> we want to alert you of a scam affecting property owners in montgomery county. neighbors may have received letters telling them for $99

they can have it reviewed. the letters are fake. the office of consumer protection says there is no charge to petition for a tax review. if you received a letter and sent a check or provided credit card information contact the office of consumer protection immediately. republicannovations could be coming to your child's school. a bond was approved for the school construction. it will appear on the election ballot. it would fund renovations at two high schools, two middle schools and nine elementary schools. a traffic alert for you. the southbound lanes of wisconsin avenue in bethesda are going to close for construction. at 7:00 this morning, less than 20 minutes from now, it will close between commerce lane and georgetown. you may want to take an alternate route. it should be open by 4:00 this afternoon. 700 jobs coming to virginia.

secretary of state, john kerry is back home this morning from the hospital. kerry spent ten days in a boston hospital after having surnlry for a broken leg. he left on crutches saying he will be home before headed back here to washington. kerry broke his leg after crashing his bike in france last sunday. we can count on sanitation workers to pick up trash, right? in virginia, they can step in to

save a life. julie carey explains how mandatory first aid training paid off in a big way for one resident. >> reporter: trash workers on the move, winding up and down vienna neighborhoods. last week, this worker was on a trash truck when something caught his eye, a woman outside her house seeming upset. >> i seen the woman. >> reporter: we'll let jay pick up the story. she was alone in home and took a pill. it didn't go down. >> i panicked. i was thinking i cannot die on a pill. how am i going to explain it to my son. she was trying to get to her neighbor's for help. she saw him and gestured for him to come over. stand-up, put your hands up and went -- and i was alive. >> reporter: he dislodged the pill with the heimlich maneuver.

columbia, thousands are going to come together to build an enormous map of the u.s. the group is celebrating the maker's fair and putting on the event. the map will use nearly 1 million bricks. the sale must go on. he broke his leg and still finished the concert. this video was posted on youtube. it's been seen more than 20,000 times. the band has only two songs into the set when he fell off the stage in sweden. after hurting his leg, he told the crowd he thought it was broken. the band kept playing cover songs while he went backstage. sure enough he came back sitting on a chair, singing with his leg in a cast. he grew up in springfield. they are headlining at rfk on the fourth of july. >> wow. performers are like athletes. they know people and pay good money to see them perform.

here. i'm keeping a close eye on this batch of rain in west virginia. as it continues to move toward the east, it's going to fizzle out, not impacting the area maybe bringing sprinkles to areas like la ray. elsewhere, we are dry for morning and midday hours. 75 degrees with sunshine over washington. here is the dew point. 70 as we get into the afternoon hours, we warm into the mid-80s to around 90 degrees. 90 for a high today in washington. 88 in manassas. 89 in la play da. more cloud cover around today. when you far tor in the humidity it feels oppressive. tomorrow feeling oppressive with dew points in the 70s. not much change monday or tuesday. by the end of the week, the humidity drop as little bit. noontime today, cloudiness throughout the area. 3:00, most of us still mainly dry. after that notice areas of rain starting to develop here with
