9:46 am
>> yes. that is him. that's correct. i'm going to work my way back around again. i'm going to start from the right and go back around, okay? yes, sir. you didn't ask on the first round. >> how was contact initiated. did he call the police? if you called him, you had to have a number. how did you get the number? >> initially, he called 911 and left a long rant on our 911 tape. and from that 911 call we got a phone number because we can get the numbers that's calling into 911. then, our negotiators call that number and that began our negotiations. >> you identified him by the number? >> no we have to get id on his person, fingerprints at this point. yes, sir. >> was there a threat to --
9:47 am
[ inaudible ] >> yes. >> what was the rant about in short form? >> the rant was about what we mentioned in the first briefing. first of all, police caused him to lose custody of his child. secondly, we accused him of being a terrorist and he, as a result, was going to blow us up. that was the extent of the threat. there was no mention of the gunshots on the police facility or the attempt of killing the officer that pulled up in front of him ramming the car doing the rant. that had already happened when he called 911. so again, he was rambling quite a bit. you could tell quite a bit of anger. >> speaking of officers, was anybody injured? >> no. that's been the saving grace of this, where, you know, you see bullet holes in the doors that
9:48 am
officers were standing behind. no officers were injured. it's been a blessing. no civilians at all. this area, if you are familiar with the area it's a nightclub or bar nearby a hotel nearby, people coming and going. pretty much all night long most nights. no one injured at this point other than the suspect. yes, sir? >> keeping in mind that he may have been hyperbolic. what was he saying he had? >> you are listening in live to a press conference from dallas' police chief following what was a gunshots fired down the street. several unknown packages left around. one of them a pipe bomb that is detonated. we were listening to this this morning. it sounded like four people were behind this. i'm looking at the twitter feed.
9:49 am
they said initially, there was that call. they believe that one suspect shot from various locations. >> at this point we just heard from the chief not confirming the identity of the suspect, but we have been able to learn a little bit about him. they say the suspect was in a custody dispute involving a child. right now, no apparent violent history between the individual and police. the video you are looking at right now pay attention to the van that is taking off. this was early this morning when the suspect rammed the police cruiser right there. then you hear the gunshots that follow. there was a series of gunshots. if you look at the pictures posted on twitter, you can see how much damage was done. the cruisers riddled the bullets. after this they discovered four bags left in front of police headquarters. one of those containing explosives is when they called in the bomb techs. they sent the robot in.
9:50 am
one of the bags detonated and exploded. amazingly, nobody was hurt in any of this. they went on pursuit of this van. that is where the second scene happened and the stand off began. that's when they actually brought in the snipers. they ended up shooting one of the engine blocks and then around i believe around 5:30 or 5:06 -- 5:07. that is when they shot through the window. at this point, they don't know if the suspect is deceased. >> they are not approaching the vehicle. they told them they have explosives in that van. it's a situation we are continuing to monitor. big story. another story we are continuing to follow is the scorcher we are dealing with. amelia, you said it's not going to be as bad as yesterday. >> not as bad but still muggy. the temperatures aren't as hot. highs today will warm into the
