"news4 today" starts now. >> and good morning. welcome to "news4 today." i'm david culvert. >> i'm angie goff. thank you for joining us. we want to start with that mercury rising. >> it is hot and humid. amelia segal tracking this forecast. and folks want some relief. what do you think? >> well, unfortunately you won't get it. it is hot and humid through today, right on through tuesday. when you factor in the humidity it will feel like it's 95 degrees or even a little bit higher during these afternoon hours. right now, it is quiet across the area. stepping outside, feeling extremely summer like. i'm keeping an eye on showers and thunderstorms firing back in west virginia. these are going to continue to advance eastward. trying to hold together as they make it over the mountains and past the i-91 corridor and eventually they'll have success

in setting off some scattered showers and thunderstorms later on today. here's the latest futurecast. as we get into the afternoon, especially the later afternoon, showers and thunderstorms start to fire. the best chance of storms though, david is looking like during the early evening hours when heavy rain is possible. i'll have more on this and more storms potentially tomorrow coming up in my full forecast. >> we'll stand by for that. 10:03. two people are dead after a stabbing in fredericksburg. this happened in a fight between jay's lounge and cookout. a third man was stabbed but we're told he survived. police say they're already in large lot. they were there as that fight broke out. police have not arrested anyone in the murders. we're of course going to stay on it. we have new details in a deadly shooter. right now a man is in custody charged with a murder of an ice cream truck driver. larnell tyran lyles was arrested in walkersville.

police say he walked up to and shot brandon brown in the upper chest around 5:00 p.m. yesterday. it happened on vermont cfrederick. brown worked for big daddy ice cream. no word on a motive. more than a year after an 8-year-old d.c. girl went miss, investigators found new evidence. no one has seen relisha rudd since last year. a bag was found in the anacostia river in kenilworth park. they say that bag is consistent with what police are looking for. >> since we are looking for evidence, i was -- i thought, you know, we at least had to get into the water to find it but somebody must have caught on to it with a fishing hook and brought it up. >> that bag is now being processed in a police lab. rudd you might recall was last seen with khalil tatum a janitor at the d.c. homeless shelter. tatum later kill himself in

kenilworth park but relisha was never found. today you have a new way to get down to the d.c. mall. a new d.c. circulator bus will take you to union station. you can get off the buss just steps away from the capitol, the smithsonian museum as well as the lincoln memorial. the cost to ride the circulator is just one buck. all right. you have a few things to look forward to in the week ahead. start with tomorrow. community discussions to add bike lanes to a busy fairfax county street. county leaders looking to hear from you on this issue. so planners want to narrow the driving lanes on franconia road between kraft road and south van dorn. this is in the alexandria section of fairfax county. it's happening tomorrow at edison high school at 7:00 p.m. on tuesday, a former fbi special agent is going to be in court. davis faces assault and resisting arrest charges for allegedly trying to crash a gate

at the cia. this happened last month. investigators say davis tried to reach toward a security officer's gun and threatened to shoot. tomorrow, jeb bush is expected to make a big announcement as to whether he'll run for president. if he enters the race bush becomes the 11th republican running for president in 2016. right now, if you're planning to feast on maryland's famous blue crabs this summer you may have to wait a while. there is a shortage on the crabs this year. this is a story that has a lot of you buzzing on the nbc washington facebook page this morning. news4's derrick ward has more on how much more you could be paying to get your hands on some crabs. >> reporter: well, you'll probably pay more of a premium if you're at a restaurant. that's where the wait comes, if you can even find it on the menu. take a look, what we see down here at the wharf, lots of trucks coming in and delivering. where are they coming from? that's from gloucester,

virginia. that's the issue here. crab population in maryland or at least in the bay is indeed down. now, it's down like i said so much that sometimes you won't find your lump crack cake dishes in restaurants but, you know, from an economic perspective there's an issue from an ecological perspective, the yield is up about 30%. they have been doing things to try to reverse this decline like in virginia. they have outlawed dredging which captures a lot of the females and trying to protect the females because that figure that's the key to the population. but other factors like some of the grasses where the baby crabs hide. if those grasses disappear, the fish -- the crabs don't have anywhere to hide. they end up bein fish. but whatever the factor is, crabbers are having to go farther south to get their crab. take a listen. >> eastern shore of maryland, small island called smith island, and of course that's what they do to make a living. they catch it 3:30, 4:00 in the

morning. yeah, i mean, like i said, we're selling a whole lot of the crabs. there doesn't seem to be enough. >> reporter: sometimes they go as far as louisiana and the gulf. even though there's a 30% increase, last year was the lowest yield on record. that shows you if you're coming from the basement just getting up to the first floor supply and demand are still not meeting. no shortage here though. if you're buying a bushel or two, you won't have an issue down here at the wharf. prices, well they're little bitteady. maybe more, but the size is down, that's what we're hearing from the consumers here too. but fourth of july is d-day for the crab sellers here that's the big weekend. see what happens then. we are live at the wharf. derrick ward, news4, back to you. >> all right. the crab report, thanks. deadly floods in a country of georgia. this is some pretty incredible video and we're learning zoo animals are among the dead.

right now, zoo animals are on the loose in the country of georgia after a flood destroyed the enclosures. look at this video that hippo on the loose on the streets. other animals too out in the open. tigers, lions bears also pigs and foxes. all together 30 animals got out. helicopters now circling the city this morning trying to get an overhead visual on how many are still roaming around. floodwaters also destroyed homes leaving dozens homeless this

morning. we know that eight people have been confirmed killed and they died from the flooding and this includes three zookeepers. another developing story we're watching this morning. a building used to investigate crimes is now a crime scene itself. now, this morning it's full of bullet holes. a gunman opened fire on the dallas police headquarters yesterday. this after leaving bags filled with explosives. nbc's dan schenamen has the latest. >> reporter: it was a brazen attack on dallas police headquarters. >> we're getting shot at at headquarters. >> reporter: just after midnight, a man opened fire with an automatic weapon. the armored van rammed the police car before leading police on the 12-mile chase. coming to a stop in a restaurant parking lot. >> we didn't know what was going on. and next thing you know we're locked in. and they're telling us to get down. >> reporter: fearing the suspect may try to flee, a police sniper shot the engine, disabling the

vehicle. >> our snipers shot at the suspect through the front windshield of the van, striking the suspect. >> reporter: killed -- 35-year-old james boulware from dallas. back at police headquarters, police found suspicious bags. one carrying pipe bombs that exploded when a police robot tried to move it. then they used small explosives to make sure the van was not rigged as well. boulware's father says when his son lost custody of his child, he blamed police. >> every one of us has a breaking point. some is one point, some it's another. but we all have one. >> reporter: his father says boulware bought the van last week. police say they discovered more pipe bombs packed with screws and nails. dan schenamen, nbc news. new this morning there's a new millionaire in northern virginia and it could be you. >> we know it's not us that's

and here to talk more about it, moderator of "meet the press," chuck todd. we know with big speeches like this they're judged not only on the substance and meat of what they sere they're saying but the cosmetics of it all. how did she do? >> look, she's not barack obama he had a style, an oratory and the sense of huge crowds -- look, she had a big crowd. look, she's not bill clinton she's not barack obama when it comes to speech making. i thought it was better than most of the speeches i have seen her give. i think it's the substance though that does matter. that should be the big take away from the speech. she is hugging the president's economic agenda. it sounded to me like a retelling of president obama's last two state of the unions and she' making it clear the only subtle contrast all those ideas that you like of president obama's i'll -- my goal would be to implement them in my four years. >> chuck, you're going to look at dynasty candidates.

obviously -- >> yeah. with jeb. the jeb announcement on monday. >> right. >> what's interesting is both have the same issue, right? they're both trying to reintroduce -- both campaigns will always tell me, the hillary and the jeb campaign, they don't know the real john ellis bush, they don't know the real hillary. she spent a lot of time on rodham, dorothy rodham. you will hear from jeb a lot about his days at florida, as governor. all about cementing him as the floridian and cementing him in many ways as someone who lives the hispanic experience. married to a mexican wife. his family is hispanic-american. he got grief when he checked that box. he's the only member of his immediate family not an hispanic person, but he feels like one. >> trying to find ways to connect. we know you have a lot of ground to cover. you'll be talking about the more troops that are going overseas,

83 degrees in camp springs. hazy sunshine right now the heat index when you factor in the humidity feeling like 94 already in washington. 90 in leesburg, 86 back in winchester. the latest on storm team 4 radar, our immediate area is dry for the most part. it's been dry all morning. we did have some thunderstorms move through overnight. in parts of frederick, montgomery counties, fairfax and prince william, this is firing up back over west virginia. we'll keep an eye on this as it moves through the area. we could see storms bubble up on their own later on today. here's the latest timing. noon, notice most of us are still dry. clouds/sun mix starting to develop. tracking thunderstorms over the mountains. 2:00 this activity starts to leave that i-91 corridor. it's 4:00 or 5:00 when storms

are more likely for loudoun, montgomery, anne arundel counties. the d.c. metro area. heavy rain is possible and any storms today, even tonight notice at 8:00 p.m. this line of heavy rain potentially containing a lot of lightning. typically when the sun goes down, the storms will become less intense. but it is so humid outside, that that's not going to be the case tonight. so even at 10:00 p.m., trying to go to bed to get up for work tomorrow morning, you could be dealing with some heavy rain moving thousand your neighborhood. potentially lots of lightning. the biggest concern is heavy rain. tomorrow, concern of some hail and heavy rain. highs in the 90s again tomorrow. partly sunny skies. the morning commute shouldn't be impacted by the wet. temperatures in the 70s. 90s though headed home for work on monday, with areas of rain slowing that commute. tuesday, a high of 93. once again the chance of showers and thunderstorms later on in
