dieing in a fiery crash and the woman driving the car is in the hospital with burns. police have not said if she is the little boy's mother. the pair were in a car that crashed on the high about 3:30 this morning. news 4 has a report from the crash scene that is coming up. new and chilling tmt. grace's own roommate is accused of strangling her. today one of the other roommates took the stand. one of her house mates sent text messages on the day that she dies in april. the roommate says he texted that he was in mann's room and made a mess. now that the man accused of killing a mother, father, little boy and their housekeeper in a mansion in northwest dc. tonight he has not one but two

new attorneys. the change came during a court hearing today. >> the dc superior court where wint the only suspect charged made an appearance before a judge today asking the judge to replace his lawyer which had been represented by the public defender's office and now he has a private attorney and an immigration attorney. his attorney said at some point during the trial his immigration status will become an issue so now they have hired an immigration attorney. wint's sister, brother and mother are paying for the new attorneys. >> reporter: today a group of local senators blasted metro for lacking leadership mismanagement and basically a host of safety issues that the transit issue has been dealing with lately. we know about problems on the track. smoke and fire incidents

seemingly non-stop day after day. today these senators basically said enough is enough. coming up on news 4 at 5:00 and 6:00, going to tell you about an upcoming safety report that is going to point to big problems. >> and a judge today sentenced omar gonzalez to 17 months in jail for jumping the white house fence and running into the mansion. he made it all the way into the east room with a knife. gonzalez nodded as the judge said no more nods, guns or machetes. the federal court judge recommended he be transferred to a prison in california where his father lives. with the time already served gonzalez could be released in december. >> this afternoon we have learned the name of a woman who was pulled out of huntsman lake hchlt she was 22-year-olds old from fairfax and found by kayakers in springfield. right now police are awaiting

an ambulance and droef away. we are at the homeless shelter. four to five people have been transported to the hospital. fire ems tells us they do not know if they are under the influence of synthetic marijuana but this looks similar to what happened on june 5 when 11 people overdosed on synthetic marijuana. we don't know if these folks used synthetic marijuana but right now police are still investigating and trying to figure out what is going on. synthetic marijuana can cause aggressive behavior. it's similar to what can happen if you smoked or dipped pcp. officials are really trying to get a handle on this. the city is trying to crack down on this at different convenience

died in the backseat. we're not sure where the car was headed but there is more on that investigation. >> the passenger and the area was consumed in fire. >> this was the charred area where the young boy's -- >> it was a pretty significant fire. >> the driver of this toyota corollo crossed the center median. the car then caught fire. the woman who was behind the wheel survived. but the boy in the back passenger seat never made it out. >> we have no information of speeds or how fast the vehicle was going or the direction of travel. we're still trying to piece that together. >> on the way back from a different call spotted the fire. rescuers used fire extinguishers to put it out. >> they were unable to reach the

as tom reports the food and drug administration is banning transfats from the nation's food supply. >> for years cardiologists have warned that artificial transfats are killers. manufacturers have been required to list transfats on their labels but with the fda accused of reaching into american's kitchens. . you scrape some out of my cold dead heart. >> but dietitian and mom is always watching the labels. >> if you see partially high droj nated soybean or cotton seed oil or that word high droj nated there's a good chance that that's transfat. >> since 2003 food manufacturers have voluntarily lowered the

we're following all of today's big stories for you. >> we will start with jay gray life in texas as tropical storm bill comes ashore. jay? >> reporter: hey there. we're on the west side of houston. take a look behind me. three weeks ago it was filled with debris and water. the reason is buffalo bayou here. it had overflowed and still up to the banks right now. they're expecting five to six inches of rain. a foot of rain in some areas. can't take it right here. so that's the big concern. the storm came ashore around noontime. that's not the issue. . they see the flooding here three weeks ago. everything still saturated. most of the rivers bonds, lake, still filled with water so there's a very big concern about

flooding. the problem here the rain is going to continue. we could see rain over the next couple of days. definitely what they don't need. emergency management centers they're up and running not only here but in key parts across the stay. >>. >> with we could see rem innocents. storm team four is tracking not only rain but of course what bill is doing right now. as you heard it's making its way right on in through areas of texas. that system will start to bear off to the north and east. we do have a few areas.

no thunderstorm bus there are pockets of some light moderate rain showing up. we could still see some storms filling in. some scattered storms as we get into the evening hour s hours more clouds will start filling back into if area tomorrow. i will take that compared to the 100 degree heat index values that we have had today. it will not be as hot and dry until we get into the evening hours. let me show you what i'm talking about. here is 7:00 a.m. here are the clouds. we have an east northeasterly wind. you can see a few showers will start to show up by around lunchtime. for the most part it's during the late afternoon, evening

montgomery county blams was driving, returning from a run to shady grove hospital. the crew of emergency medical technicians inside saw the vehicle fire and responded. >> a woman was indicating that there was somebody still in the vehicle. the car was locked or the doors that they initially tried to enter were locked so they were able to get tools, break out the window and pretty quickly knock down the bulk of the fire. >> reporter: they used fire extinguishers but were unable to save the boy in the backseat. a fire engine arrived as calls came in. the woman driver suffered burns and smoke inhalation. she was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. the accident reconstruction team will determine how it happened. they believe she was driving east on 370 when she veered left over the concrete median. >> for reasons still under investigation, crossed over to the westbound lanes and even
