at the king street station. >> and report that will be released tomorrow show that we still have work to be done. >> and back here now live on capital hill this report is going be highly critical. metro welcomes the entire report as it continues to work on its safety culture. >> thank you. tonight a woman is at a local burn unit after this fiery car accident. she and an ambulance crew tried desperately to get inside to rescue a little boy. we are live along the highway. >> the car crashed into that embankment right across 370. it's been 14 hours but police have not yet released the name of the victims or their relationship. is it a mother and a son? so this crash is raisinge inging questions that tonight still must be answered. the biggest question is what

caused this one car crash. it resulted in fire and the death of a young boy believed to be just 10 years old. the woman who was driving tonight is being treated at a burn center. she has life threatening injuries. police say investigators are unable to talk to her. the accident reconstruction team has tracked and photographed her path from the eastbound lane veering left into the westbound lanes to the point of impact. >> breakneck speed, any mechanism that may have broke within the vehicle itself and her condition as well. >> the car crashed around 3:30 this morning closing the highway in both directions. montgomery county ambulance was returning from a run to shady grove hospital. the emergency medical technicians inside saw the vehicle fire and responded, finding the driver outside the vehicle. >> a woman was indicating that there was somebody still in the vehicle. the car was locked or at least

the doors that they initially tried to enter were locked so they were able to get some tools and break out the window and pretty quickly knock down the bulk of the fire. >> they used fire extinguishers but were unable to save the young boy in the backseat. police have not said why he was in the car at 3:30 in the morning. investigators are focusing on facts. >> right now we're looking at it as strictly a collision. and as more information comes forward we will be able to release more details. >> and police need more information. they are asking anyone that might might have been driving along the highway at 3:30 in the morning to give them a call. that's the latest. >> thanks chris. we are following breaking news now.

two children there were just taken to a hospital after a motorcycle and a car collided and then the motorcycle skidded into a church. this happened at quaker lane and dogwood drive. police tell us the bike skidded into the window. . >> good. >> it is there. a couple of days near 95. 95 in fredericksburg.

and an overdose at a dc homeless shelter. paramedics treated a handful of patients outside of a homeless shelter. it happened this afternoon. called it an apparent overdose of an unknown substance. investigators say it is similar to an incident earlier this month at the same shelter when 11 people may have overdosed on a synthetic marijuana product. >> alarming new details coming out on the government data breach revealed after a three-hour hearing on the hill. office of personnel management director confirmed more than 4 million federal employees were affected. she refused to say how many had been affected in the other

the judge is moving that case forward. >> steven briel is charged with killing his house mate. his mental health may be an issue at trial. left court without comment. his attorney calls the case a tragedy for two families. >> it's a very distressing situation for his entire family as well as it is for grace's family. >> the key testimony came from grace's close friends and house mates who spoke at her funeral and for the first time today told the chilling story of the afternoon of april 17th. >> i went in holly's room and i made a mess. when they got back, briel emerged from that room and he asked what would you do if grace didn't come back? what would you do if she wasn't here any more? he went on to say grace lunged at him and he went to defend

himself. he said she'd bitten him and showed him. on the floor, under a purple comforter, mann's body. there was a plastic bag over her head. other bags were stuffed into mann's mouth. er win remembers briel describing this. we had a disagreement she slapped me. i strangled her. briel was sweat soaked that day, eyes darting back and forth breathing heavy. it is suggested that briel's mental health might be an issue. >> it's premature to talk about. >> there is still no clear motive for the alleged murder. they knew of no disagreement between the two except for the insistence that mann return a borrowed blanket.

>> a former cheer leader for the ravens could spend up to 19 years in prison. molly shaddock entered the plea. the 48-year-old mother of three will be sentenced in august and will have to register as a sex offender. she met the 15-year-old in maryland last summer. the two engaged in sexual activity in a beach house in delaware. >> people in the neighborhood say they hear gunfire often but they just keep walking. had just gotten off the bus. pat collins is at the scene now. pat? >> a teenager was shot and seriously wounded here. a woman who lives here says that gunfire is a way of life.

state senator went on record before congress about the day his son's untreated mental illness resulted in tragedy. he did it to bring attention to a landmark bill that would help families in a similar situation. >> i think parents have a right to make sure their child has a chance to live and succeed and blossom and they have a right to prevent their child if they can from miring down in mental illness and dying. >> senator's son stabbed his father two years ago and then took his own life this new bill wod break down barriers so that families can work with doctors to provide urgent care when it's needed. the bill focuses on fixing the shortages of beds at mental health facilities. we're committed to providing education and hope to people dealing with mental health challenges. we call our project changing minds. for more information visit our

maryland state troopers arrested more than 08 impaired drivers and one was pulled over twice in the same night. they arrested and charged him and released him to his wife. he then got back behind the wheel and was stopped in the same area a couple of hours later. his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit both times

he was arrested. >> we do have those that feel they were not that impaired and that they can drive their own vehicle. they should know if they're going to try to do that we will be out there waiting for them. we will give you a ride home. >> the troopers couldn't legally keep him by custody. the custody has to be released to a sober driver. >> if you drive through one area you are three times more likely to be caught by a speeding camera than anywhere else in the county. in olney there is a higher concentration of cameras than anywhere else in the county. the cameras brought in more than a million dollars.

back now to breaking news in alexandria. we are getting word of a car and motorcycle collided and the motorcycle skidded right into a church. the motorcycle hit a window shattering the glass and children were in the room where the window shattered. there is no word on the person on the motorcycle. >> in downtown leesburg, virginia, there was a terrible fire about a week and a half ago. but far openly destroyed. the businesses in that hour holding a benefit to help the
