the morning when i was leaving the property. >> how one local county could change the way towing companies do business. and the newest claim from a woman under fire over her racial identity. >> there has been no biological proof that larry and anne are my biological parents. >> "news4 at 11" starts now. >> our first look inside the church classroom tonight where a motorcycle crashed right through a 101. >> the driver is in critical condition tonight for several young children and their teacher were all able to walk away. >> news4 shomari stone live at the scene off quaker lane in alexandria. he spoke to the church pastor tonight. shomari? >> reporter: good evening. the church pastor invited us inside his office. we sat down and talked about what happened. he is amazed that no one was seriously hurt. you look right over there that is boarded up that is where the motorcycle entered. and there were kids in that classroom. people at this church are calling this a miracle.

>> we're so blessed that no one was hurt. >> right here. >> reporter: reverend john hortum thanks god no one was hurt when this motorcycle crashes through a window at st. clements episcopal school. >> we're praying for the man on the motorcycle. his machine came right through the 101, the majority of it. and right over the heads of little children and their teacher. >> reporter: around ten kids between 2 and 5 years old were in the classroom. suddenly the motorcycle hit a car at the intersection of quaker lane in dogwood drive in alexandria, sending the rider and his motorcycle airborne. >> glass is all over. children were touched by glass. but it wasn't serious injuries at all. i talked to everybody who went with the kids to the hospital. >> reporter: the rider landed on the ground outside the church.

>> i couldn't believe it. >> reporter: linda oliver has been a church member for nearly 50 years. the school was built in 1963. what is your reaction when you look around this room? >> i just think we had a guardian angel. what if the children had been in that corner and the motorcycle flew through the window? it would have really hurt people. >> reporter: which is why reverend john hortum is thankful. >> it's a gift for all of us to breathe and say we have another day and god has blessed us in a very, very special and wonderful way. >> reporter: and tonight the motorcyclist is in critical condition. and as for the people who were in the car, they're going to be okay. some folks are asking who caused this crash. why did it happen? well, alexandria police are investigating. and as soon as we find out that answer, we will tweet it at nbc washington and post it on our facebook page. live in alexandria shomari stone news4. now to breaking news out of prince george's county tonight. we just got word the council

voted to override county executive baker's veto on a budget. now this means the council's budget goes forward with no double-digit property tax increase. baker had wanted the money to pay for education. the next step could be a court battle. in a statement tonight, the council chair said it would be, quote stunning for the county executive to essentially sue for property tax revenue. a crowd of protesters stopped traffic in downtown d.c. tonight. they marched against police brutality in places like mckinney, texas. that's where a white police officer pinned a black teenaged girl to the ground at a pool party two weeks ago, and later pulled his gun. he has since resigned. some streets were closed for tonight's march. but the protest was peaceful. chris lawrence here with some new information on a balcony that collapsed and killed six people in california. we've learned that about an hour before, berkeley police got a noise complaint about a loud party there. but they were too busy with

other calls to check it out. tonight the consul general of ireland led a vigil for the students who died. five of them were from ireland, 21-year-olds here for the summer to work and study. a young irish american woman from the bay area died and seven others were seriously injured. they were all at the apartment building for someone's birthday. and a structural engineer now says the fourth floor balcony was too small to hold 13 people jumping and dancing would have put additional strain on it. the balcony or the away from the building and crashed on to the sidewalk four stories down. inspectors have been inside to assist the damage, and the city has red tagged the other balconies to make sure the building is safe for other residents. the victims' families are expected to arrive in the bay area tonight. >> chris, thank you. new tonight drivers and tow truck operators are speaking their mind about a bill in the works to curb predatory towing in montgomery county. it would band the tow spotters. the bill would reform towing

practices on private property and set a flat rate for certain services. both sides were vocal tonight about the pros and the cons. >> the cases involving community members calling a violation are understood. however, when up to 11 cars are removed in one single evening, something is not right. >> this law is protecting the violators. i know of no other law in any other county that protects the people that break the law. >> you can read more about the bill right now on nbcwashington.com. just click on investigations. concerns tonight at a d.c. homeless shelter after paramedics had to treat four people for overdoses. police responded to the community for creative nonviolence this afternoon. we don't know what the patients used, but investigators say it looked similar to an incident earlier this month at the same shelter when 11 people apparently overdosed on a form of synthetic marijuana. before today, there were already 140 overdoses in d.c. in the month of june so far.

mayor bowser vowed to crack down on the problems. she announced emergency legislation on monday that would allow police to shut down businesses that sell synthetic drugs. stores would also face a $10,000 fine. the police chief says synthetic drugs have become a danger to the community. >> we have had homicides that were carried out by persons high on those synthetic drugs and didn't recall what happened. >> police also plan to change the way they target illegal drugs like focusing on suppliers who use the internet. metro now says it will take a month to get all of its 4,000 series rail cars back on the track and get ready. those crowded commutes will last a little longer. metro engineers checked all 100 of the 4,000 series cars taken out of service last week. they found no evidence of a safety hazard. but some door components were at the low level of metro standards. so they'll make adjustments and bradley get the cars back on the

tracks. the agency took those cars out of service after some doors on the trains came open while the train was moving. after the highest temperatures so far this year finally some relief is in sight. doug we need a break. >> you see the flag blowing in the wind. even the flags blowing gives us a little relief. look at the numbers today. highest temperature we have seen so far this year, 96 degrees. 92346 fredericksburg. 90 winchester, leesburg and the heat index at one point 103. the record high is 99. so we were fairly close to that during the afternoon. and look what is going on. we've got a cold front. it brings a few light showers around. but that cold front drifting on down to the south. clear skies out ahead of it and behind it. we've got much cooler air. the heatwave is over. cooler pattern. but some rain could be moving in. plus, we'll talk about that weekend weather in just a minute. >> thank you, doug. developing tonight, managers

for both the st. louis cardinals and the astros won't let an fbi investigation distract them from the game. looking into hacked information on secured databases used by the astros. the teams are former rivals, and a former cardinals executive is now the gm in houston. the stolen information includes scouting reports trade discussions, and player stats. both teams and major league baseball say they're cooperating with the investigation. doreen? the woman at the center of a cultural firestorm now says she is not sure her white parents are even her real parents. rachel dolezal said today she identifies as black, but she has been accused of lying about her race for her own benefit. here is what she said about her parents in an exclusive interview on "nbc nightly news." >> i haven't had a dna test. there has been no biological

contest in texas. prosecutors say he gave two men the guns they used to shoot up the event last month. kareem's attorney says those charges are all trumped up. the super bowl is in san francisco in february then houston the following year. but prosecutors didn't give any details on that part of the plan. doreen? >> bruce. some new video just into our newsroom. it shows what police call persons of interest in a shooting in southeast washington. police say they want to talk to the three men seen on this bus. somebody shot a 16-year-old boy seconds after he stopped off a bus near 28th and nail nor road. new tonight police go undercover to catch a bike thief selling his stolen wheels on craigslist. the bike owner's dad spotted the ad. tonight jackie bensen talks to him and the local police department working to keep you safe from shady deals online.

>> hey, that's my bike. that's what michael katz of bethesda thought when he saw this craigslist ad. a few hours earlier his 18-year-old son's not inexpensive bicycle briefly left unattended in front of the house had been stolen. >> where else would you go get rid of a bike, right? i live in the technology world. and i think a lot of people don't appreciate how much bad stuff goes on craigslist. >> reporter: as the popularity of bicycles increases both as a form of recreation and transportation thieves have step upped their game, cherry picking the best. by late sunday, montgomery police officers had set up a sting at the white flint metro station, some coming in on their own time. the craigslist seller showed up with cats's son's bike only to learn the eager buyer was actually a cop. >> he actually told the officer hey, to seal this deal, i need a ride back to the metro. sure enough, he did get a ride back, but it wasn't to the

of this sign on pennsylvania avenue that reads trump coming 2016. the sign actually promotes his new hotel down at the old post office pavilion. but some question whether it also promotes his campaign. federal officials tell news4 the sign is legal because it's temporary and refers only to the hotel. dozens of washington news women and men from all of the tv stations came together for one cause tonight, fighting breast cancer. the annual d.c. news bash event was held this evening at the warner building. this year all proceeds benefit the prevent cancer foundation. >> this turnout was supposed to be out on the roof outside. glad they moved it indoor. >> it was a little warm. and earlier a chance for some showers. >> you know what it really was? >> what? >> all of you the women that i talked to said it's much better for our hair to be inside. >> well, there was that too. you all did say that. much better for our hair to be inside. it was great seeing all of the ladies there tonight. a great event of course.

and a very hot day today. how hot? the hottest day we've seen so far this year. 96 degrees the high temperature. right now 83. now we still have a little bit of a heat index. so yes, still a little humid in spots. especially around town. but notice the temperatures. notice 75 in leesburg. 72 in gaithersburg. but here is the number i really like. 68 in cumberland. that's the cool air that is going to make its way down by early tomorrow morning. most of you will be in the low to mid-60s. you will notice a big change when you walk out the door tomorrow morning. storm team 4 radar showing all clear for the most part. a few showers around charlottesville. that's about it. those coming with a cold front that front, you can see it clearly defined here. look at the clearing behind the front. that's the cool air that will continue to sink on down across our region. we'll see that tonight and into early tomorrow. a very nice wednesday, at least early. but we will see more clouds coming in. i want to show you this. this is tropical storm bill making its way just out of houston in towards dallas. flooding a major threat here.

and notice once again the train of moisture all the way around this area. high pressure right over to us that will eventually bring bill our way this weekend. now, it will no longer be tropical, but it will bring us some showers and a few storms saturdaying into it into the day sunday. future weather for tomorrow. starting off notice the cloud cover first off. and notice the clouds much of the afternoon. a few showers developing during the day tomorrow. i'm not expecting much in the way of rain during the day. i do not think you'll need the umbrella. you may want to take it just in case. but any showers tomorrow should be brief and should be light. tomorrow night at 8:00 notice some rain back towards the west. and by 11:00, we start to notice the rain coming in across our region as the warm front moves back to the north. i do think we'll see some fairly heavy rain overnight tomorrow night. should be out of here by thursday. but tomorrow night, don't be surprised if you're woken up by thunder and lightning around 1:00 2:003:00 in the morning. 86 in was 82 in martinsburg. now this is still above average. but when you go from 96 to 86 i

his second home run of the game. fifth career multihome run game for him. the birds just starting to get started here with the home run party. second inning three home runs later, khris davis. this is his seventh career home run on to utah street. fourth homer of the season for crush. and the birds are running -- are rolling here. they're not done yet, though. chris parma making his oral debut. second home run of the night for him. the o's set a new club record with eight home runs in the ball game. they go on to win by a final score of 19-3. that's not a typo. 19-3. to the world cup. this world cup needs more cowbells. usa taking on nigeria. the united states with a win. they move on from group -- megan in the corner kick. abby wambach kicks it home. the united states wins 1-nil.
