what do you think of the timing of this? >> the severe thunderstorm threat starts at 2:00 or 3:00 this afternoon through 8:00 this evening. then extended heavy rain brings a flooding threat through. those are the two types of threats we are looking at today. outside, there's a cloudy start. a picture over northern virginia. all cloud cover out there. you may get a sliver or two of sunshine. that's about it. that won't inhibit the warm up. temperatures already in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. a couple sprinkles here moving inside the capitol heltal beltway. the center of circulation, which was bill is about 15 hours north of us. that's midnight tonight for timing perspective. between now and then is when the worst of the weather for father's day weekend is occurring. we will talk rainfall amounts and how hot it is going to get coming up. >> chuck thank you. a developing story. police are trying to figure out

who stabbed and killed a man in northwest. he was stabbed several times. news 4s derrick ward is in northwest this morning with the latest. derrick? >> reporter: good morning. we are in the 3600 block of calvary at calvary and wisconsin. this is still a crime scene. police are focusing on united methodist church a third of the way down the block. take a look at the scene. this is about 10:30 last night when police were called to the report of a stabbing. they found an adult male who was stabbed and he later died. we have no information on the victim. we know there are facilities here in this block that residents say attract homeless people and people congregate here at the church. we don't know if any of those folks were involved in this. police are holding this as a crime scene. you will not be able to travel

down calvert from wisconsin going east until they complete their investigation. not a lot of information on a victim or suspect. residents in the neighborhood are told they don't have anything to fear. they don't think it was a random act. we are live in northwest, derrick ward, back to you. >> thank you. you can help police in the district if you recognize this man. he's wanted by the fbi after trying to rob a bank yesterday afternoon. he approached the teller, asked for money, didn't get any and took off. if you have information about his where abouts, who he might be, police want to hear from you. we are following a developing story in new york. police are looking into the possible sighting of two prisoners who may have escaped. witnesses saw two people walking near a rail yard five and a half hours away from where they escaped. the next day two men walking along the road a few miles from

the new york/pennsylvania border. they escaped two weeks ago. an officer has been placed on leave as part of the investigation. extra security at the most prominent ame church. a bomb was planted near the metropolitan ame church in northwest. they say it happened last night. nothing was found. terrorism task forces are still investigating. a spokesperson tells us worship will go on as normal this weekend. the church already planned some increased se attack in charleston. we have to change the culture of violence in america and around the world. >> the loss is being felt in our area. people from different backgrounds and religious beliefs came together at the metropolitan ame church in washington yesterday. there were clergy from cross sections of views and faiths. they say this presents an

opportunity to go forward against hate. this morning, the time line of the shooting inside emanuel ame church wednesday night is becoming clearer. police documents say dylann roof shot all of the victims multiple times. and that he stood over a witness and made a racially inflammatory remark after the shooting. roof's father and uncle called the police after seeing the surveillance photos of him. roof's father told investigators his son owned a .45 caliber gun. right now, greenbelt police are asking for your help trying to find this man here. he is suspected in two sex assaults on children. these allegedly happened inside stores in prince george's county. the crimes happened in the past week. jackie bensen has more. >> reporter: police believe these images show the man responsible for two frightening

crimes. the most recent happened at beltway plaza mall on greenbelt road. the victim and her mother were inside the bathroom of a store when a man came in and touched her before she was able to yell for help. >> the child was for the mother. the mother did nothing wrong. the child was six years old and waiting for the mother to be done. at that point, the suspect entered the restroom assaulted the child and then left. >> these security camera images were recorded friday at a cvs pharmacy after a 6-year-old girl was groped by a man in the store. >> physically very close resemblance is very close. again he entered a retail store. they came and exited. >> reporter: shoppers we spoke to were unaware of the crime. >> this world is crazy. you know, that's why a lot of moms have to watch people hold

up your children. don't let them walk behind you. >> it's unfortunate, very unfortunate u. >> jackie bensen reporting there. we want to show you another look at the suspect. if you recognize him, call the police. you can share that photo with others. police are trying to figure out what happened when a woman came home to find her husband dead and her baby unconscious. a neighbor called 911 after they heard her screaming. it appears the father may have shot himself yesterday afternoon. chopper 4 flew over their home in indian head. neighbors performed cpr on the baby until paramedics arrived. it's not clear what happened to the baby who remains in critical condition. the next faze of the body camera program. cathy lanier says 400 cameras will be distributed to the officers in the fifth and seventh districts by the end of the month. by the end of next year, officers in every district will

grabbing for something and ran for the escalator earlier this month. transit police say there have been at least five other robberies on trains and platforms mostly at night and along the orange, blue and silver line. they they all the cases are connected. we have a crime alert for folks. if you are buying or selling one of these an iphone 6 on craigslist, thieves are targeting you in one area. two men and a 15-year-old are in custody in prince george's county. police believe there are more guys out there preying on craigslist users. >> talk to them on the phone. we found a lot of the meetings that are arranged, they happen without a verbal conversation. it's done through text or e-mail. you can find out a lot of information about a person by talking to them on the phone. they may give you ideas of who you are dealing with. >> they are serious criminals. they pull out a gun to carry out the crimes, according to police.

no one has been hurt. a woman may spend six years in pri liquid cocaine in her breast implants in columbia. the airport authorities spotted the woman when she began acting strangely in the security line. she was taken to a medical clinic. they found three pounds of cocaine inside the implants. they were removed. she remains in the hospital after the implants caused an infection. >> i think there's a three ounce maximum, anyway. >> that is an incredible story. >> it is. two people hide inside a jet wheel on an 8,000 mile plane ride. one of them survived. >> yeah. what we are learning now about the investigation into what happened to the second man. also, more problems for general motors. why gm is asking over 200,000 drivers to bring in their cars. yours could be one of them. chuck bell says it could hit

that's a lot of paper. you should not bring batteries, e electronic cds or binders. 9:17. new this morning, people in parts of chile are cleaning up after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit the region. no serious injuries. it caused quite a shake for those folks. the navy says it did not cause a tsunami off the coastline. one man is dead and a second in critical condition after falling from a jet as it approached london. the stow away died after falling from the jet and landing on a london rooftop near heathrow airport. the second man remains in the hospital in critical condition. the flight took off from johannesburg johannesburg. no word how they got on the plane. >> this is cool to see as a

video you don't want to see it in person. severe storms in the area. they appeared on the sea as it rained. impressive video there. we back here at home, chuck bell tracking the possibility of severe weather today. >> a couple different threats. we were talking about this at the top of the show. a severe threat at the beginning of the event. heavy rain could cause a flash flooding concern. two different things we are keeping an eye on today. you can stay ahead of the latest forecast. we'll push an alert for severe weather when we are not on the air. for now, a cloudy start for a saturday morning. sunshine poking through from spot to spot. on the hole, the skies are mostly cloudy at this point in time. we are starting off with so much warmth and humidity in the area. already 80 degrees at 9:00 in the morning and a heat index to cope with as well, indicative of how much humidity is stuck in

the atmosphere. outside, rain chances are climbing as we go through the afternoon and the evening. a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms before the sun goes down. after sunset, the opportunity for prolonged periods of heavy rain cause localized flash flooding. temperatures up to 90 degrees before the showers and thunderstorms get going. here is the timing for the heavy rain. before 5:00, i-81. 3:00, 4:00 5:00. the heart of the metro heavy rain arriving. this is severe weather as well between 5:00 and 8:00. here is our high resolution model. the first chances for sprinkles here early this morning. by 2:00 this afternoon winchester, martinsburg, charlestown, firing up thunderstorms by 4:00, a possibility of storms here in the western side of the metro and southern maryland. the real organized chance for severe weather comes out of the blue ridge between 4:00 and

6:00. here is 6:00 p.m. tonight. there's the line of strong to severe thunderstorms from frederick to culpeper. by 8:00 coming through the heart of the metro. this is the time when everyone is going out to dinner or starting saturday night plans. be on the lookout. rainfall amounts could be one to two inches of rain per hour. if we get an hour or two or more of that, flash flooding is a real threat for the after sundown hours tonight. if you are headed to the nationals and pirates game, warm and humid. storms possible by the later innings of the game. may have to call the game early. if you are going to the ballpark to cheer the teams you may have a rain chance to deal with. nothing more than a few sprinkles. a couple showers and rain drops in the metro area. thunderstorms are already going in the mountains of west virginia. that's the leading edge of the plume of tropical moisture and the heavy rain potential that arrives overnight. rain should be over before the

make a difference in somebody's life. >> reporter: she retired this summer after making a difference as a firefighter paramedic in the county 21 years. she and her crew station 846 were honored for saving a woman's life after a bad crash last year. >> it is nice to be recognized for the team effort and everything going right but you know, for the most part you know, that's what i signed on to do. >> reporter: on the job, she isn't looking for glory. off the job, maybe a dichbt story. >> a nice, quick, easy lap. >> reporter: we caught up with them on a morning run. she will present prince george's county in the world police and firefighters. >> i run between a 5k and half marathon at least once a month. >> reporter: she makes a showing in what's dubbed the games of heroes. her training is running of some sort three to four times a week.

police trying to figure out who killed a man in the district. it happened at wisconsin and calvert street in the northwest neighborhood. the man was stabbed several times. greenbelt police need help finding this man. he's accused of touching girls inside stores in prince george's county. >> heavy rain moving through bismarck north dakota. you can see a look at the radar see the line of showers in the midwest. time now for a check of the forecast, which could include possible severe weather. >> we need to get ready for what is to come. >> you bet. >> could be really really severe stuff? >> we have daytime heating ahead of this whole thing with a lot of moisture. we are facing the usual threat of strong thunderstorms then follow it up with a plume of tropical moisture of what was bill. that has the potential to keep the heavy rain going well into

the late night hours tonight. that means a flood threat starts as soon as the sun goes down tonight. cloudy skies outside right now. this yellow area is a slight risk for severe weather coming from the storm prediction center. in addition to that the threat for storms this afternoon into the evening. late tonight, flood watches are up. flooding poszsiblepossible. rain comes down at one to two inches per hour. be careful if you are drives late tonight. turn around and don't drown. this is part of bill that is bringing the threat in here. when we come back i will tell you how father's day looks compared to today. right now, a disturbing story out of fairfax county. a search is on for a man who raped a teen. he was on robert's parkway in burke. a man offered to give her a

ride. she initially said no, then got into the car. he drove her to premier court, bound her and raped her then left her there and took off. ♪ neighbors and friends continue to pay their respects in charleston after nine lives were lost in a shooting at a black church. throughout the day yesterday, mourners visited a memorial site outside ame emanuel church. they hugged and prayed for the families of the victims. charleston continues to mourn the loss of life. thousands of people attended a vigil in downtown charleston last night. jay gray has the latest. >> to lead ourselves in a vigil of prayer and healing. >> reporter: grief spilled over again tonight in charleston. don't mistake the emotion for

weakness. >> from this night forward we will translate our prayers into action. >> reporter: action to honor the nine lost and offer hope and strength to their families. just hours after dylann roof stood before a judge -- >> i'm setting your bond, young man, at $1 million. >> reporter: the words from family members of the victims filled with grace and faith that delivered the strongest message. >> you hurt me. you hurt all our people. god forgives you and i forgive you. >> reporter: as they spoke the 21-year-old accused in the massacred emanuel ame church stood with no emotion. his family said in a written statement words cannot express our shock, grief and disbelief. they reached out offering prayers and condolences to the victims and families.

they were touched by family members offering god's fore giveness and love in the face of horrible suffering. suffering that's rocked those families and this community to its core. but, still, cannot break them. jay gray, nbc news, charleston, south carolina. back here, d.c. police have arrested a 22-year-old man for shooting a 15-year-old boy. the boy was shot and critically injured after he stepped off a bus near the intersection of 28th and nailer road in southeast tuesday night. police say they arrested derek decure after tips from the community. looking at decision 2016. republican presidential candidate, donald trump will stop by maryland. he's going to attend the red, white and blue dinner on tuesday. organizers say trump agreed to go to this event before he announced his candidacy for president.

tickets, by the way $150, starting. democratic presidential candidate, hillary clinton, will visit virginia on friday. the former secretary of state will speak at the jefferson jackson dinner. tickets start at $30. the dinner is organized by the virginia democratic party. prince george's county your tax rate is going up 4%. baker wanted to raise your taxes higher to pay for public school education. the tax hike is the first one in more than 30 years. the budget includes a 1.5 cent increase in the park and planning tax. that new budget goes into effect july 1st. big names are heading to d.c. for the july 4th concert on the national mall. country band alabama joining the lineup. the concert sets the stage for we all know it and love it, the huge fireworks display on the mall. will headline.

back now at 9:40. a minor league team in iowa is cancelling a caucasian heritage night. in light of the events the intentions are misconstrued. this morning a unique perspective on the church massacre in charleston, south carolina. we are hearing from a man who's been studying racism and hate for years. darrel davis is a black man who's maintained contact with the kkk for decades. he invited shomari stone into his home. >> i think it's tragic, but i'm not surprised. >> reporter: he is not shocked fwi charleston ame church massacre. he says the alleged hatred is the same displayed by kkk members. >> we know some of the symbols on his jacket were hate symbols.

>> reporter: david recognized the patches on roof's jacket in this well publicized photo. >> inside with a south african apartheid. >> reporter: he knows a thing or two about racist groups. he's collected ku klux klan paraphernalia and wrote a book about the kkk. >> a shameful part of our history, but it is the history. >> reporter: kkk members gave him the hate symbol. he talks to some members every day. >> you are a black man. why would you talk to somebody affiliated with the kkk, a hate group? >> to find out, how can you hate me when you don't even know me? >> reporter: there is no evidence linking roof to kkk, davis wouldn't be surprised if there was. we asked why people join hate groups, he said some do it

would hurt local businesses. a work group is looking into the transportation needs in that area. it's prompted in part to moving the preakness to laurel park. not clear when a decision will be made on the move. twitter is making it easier to buy stuff on its site. it collects tweets video and product information. twitter is rolling out more than 40 product pages. this follows a social media trend, facebook, twitter, pinterest and snap chat are looking into buy button features. >> speaking of a social media story getting a lot of attention. npr may lose listeners after a recent appearance by kim kardashian. they have thousands of complaints after the humorous quiz show not my job. she was asked questions about north korean leader, kim jong-un. it wasn't the topic it was the
