was entered in this case. you're looking at some video that shows him hitting and shoving a 15-year-old who was handcuffed. the boy's mother says thomas hit her son so hard his right eye was swollen shut. the incident happened in 2012. thomas has been placed on paid suspension. 4:30 now and in the day ahead, former illinois congressman jesse jackson jr. is expected to be he's from -- released from a halfway house. he will likely finish the prison sentence in home confinement here in washington. jackson has a home in the dupont circle neighborhood. he has a home also in chicago. he spent 17 months in an alabama prison for spending $750,000 in campaign money on personal items. his wife will serve a year in prison on related charge. looking at 4:30 on the dot. another hot start to a workweek. >> that's right. storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell with more on what we can expect in the day ahead. good morning. >> good morning, angie and eun.

very mild start to the day for sure. we haven't even dropped below 80 degrees at national airport yet. obviously cooler once you bet out the beltway. 78 in annapolis, 72 in dumfries and triangle. a warm one for sure. we'll have 100% sunshine today so temperatures will jump very, very quickly. commuter walk forecast, temperatures in the upper 70s for the walk in this morning. and into the low 90s by later on this afternoon. it will be a sticky day to be outside but tomorrow the heat and the humidity increase even more. uncomfortable uncomfortable, borders on oppressive for tuesday. we'll talk about the seven-day forecast and unfortunately rain chances may be going up as we head to the weekend. let's hope they get all that overnight road work done. >> let's hope but i don't think

so, unfortunately. we'd be very rich if we could get rid of all the road work early in the morning. randolph road, still have that left lane blocked here this morning. that's going to last probably for the next hour or so. and of course this is that on going project we have been talking about for quite some time. taking a look in lanham, lanham severn road we are shut down for road work that popped up an hour and a half and fell. and mine road no problems northbound or southbound. top of the beltway is nice and green. you can see 29, 95, b.w. parkway into and out of town everything rolling along quite well this morning. 6 66 into and out of town rolling along nicely. we are getting in new information right now on an attack at the afghan parliament. the taliban is responsible. 25 people are hurt, some of them hit by flying glass. three of those wounded are children.

explosives near the entrance of the compound. gunman tried to storm in, security forces pushed them back. the attack unfolding as lawmakers were meeting at parliament to confirm the appointment of a defense minister. members of parliament are safe and were not hurt in the attack. angie? >> kristin, thank you. we continue to follow this developing story out of new york. state police there will hold a news conference at noon about the ongoing search for these two prison escapees. investigators say david sweat and richard matt could be hitching rides on trains. teams searched two areas and a woman reported seeing them by rail road tracks near the new york and pennsylvania border. police searched an area 30 miles west of the clinton correctional facility. the men escaped more than two weeks ago. a prison worker has been charged in the escape and a corrections officer was placed on leave. we now know that the funeral for the state senator killed in the charleston massacre will be held on tuesday.

against a couple of zoo owners in florida who used to own a zoo here. eric mogensen and his daughter once owned the reston zoo. they were accused of mistreating animals and now the family is facing charges about the gulf breeze zoo. the u.s. department of agriculture said the zoo had exposed nails on fences and that zookeepers once shot a animal. and police are looking for someone who crashed a stolen car in southeast washington. you can see it busted the front of this black sedan on the left side you have screen. these pictures are from the news partner, wtop. park police say the driver hit a different car near anacostia high school, but no one in the second car was seriously hurt. today we're expected to find out if sweet briar college will stay open for another year. the plan to keep the women's college from shutting down is headed to the bedford county

judge for review today. the passionate group of alumni fighting to keep it open says it's an answer to their prayers. the school is in serious debt and faces falling enrollment. more supreme court rulings can come down today. we're watching closely for a ruling on the health care. the case looks at if people are eligible for health care subsidies because they have to buy on the federal exchange instead of the state exchange. we are watching for a ruling that can legalize same-sex marriage. we have a traffic alert for you this morning. expect delays going south on the g.w. parkway. crews are expected to begin inspecting the windy run bridge on the parkway in arlington. a single southbound lane will be closed between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 this afternoon. the federal highway administration moved up the inspection because of severe potholes.

engineers will determine whether water is getting in and whether there are other factors that are causing these potholes. tomorrow, federal investigators will hold their final hearing in metro's deadly underground smoke emergency. leaders from metro and d.c. fire and ems will be in hot seat. one woman died when smoke filled the plaza near l'enfant in january. the national transportation safety board will talk about ventilation, communication and training issues. in the day ahead, a park to remember the victims of the 2009 metro train crash will open. the legacy memorial park is located at new hampshire and north dakota avenues in northeast. it honors the lives of the nine people who died when two trains crashed near the fort totten station. d.c. leaders will hold a ceremony this morning and news4's megan mcgrath will have a report coming up in the next half hour. the so called free range parents are back in the

home alone. according to "the washington post," the agency says the my fives did not neglect their children. the police picked up their kids when they walked home from a park. they have been investigated multiple times but have not been charged. 15,000 students can retake their s.a.t.s. that's how many were affected by the reprint version. the booklets told students they had 25 minutes to finish a reading portion of the test, but the proctor only gave them 20 minutes. students affected will be able to retake it for free. they can do that do over if they choose -- i don't know how many want to. >> hard enough to take it the first time around. >> this won't affect the test scores either way. >> all right. weather and traffic on the 1s at 4:41. chuck bell, good morning. >> all about practice, practice, practice on those tests i would have taken it over again.

that way the nerves are down. you're ready to go the next time. outside in your weather headline, high summer heat today. it will be wet into the 90s. tomorrow, heat indexes probably over 100 degrees. very limited in the way of rain chances here for today. and i'm already getting a little worried about the weekend. it's monday already time to start thinking about the weekend. temperatures outside, 70s in most of the suburbs. holding on to near 80 inside the urban centers and along the chesapeake bay. and temperatures mid 70s at 7:00 a.m. 80s by 9:00 just about everywhere. close to 90 by noon. highs today easily getting into the low 90s in most areas. a few spots in northern montgomery county might be a touch cooler. but it will be a hot one for sure. then tomorrow, probably going to be our hottest day so far. up near about 97 degrees in washington. most everybody well into the 9 09s tomorrow.

doing the work of god here in metropolitan ame church. >> someone called in a bomb threat to the church on friday following a vigil. bomb sniffing dogs went through the church before police gave the all clear. prince william police are looking for three people possibly connected to a shooting at a shopping center. police say someone shot a man several times at the triangle shopping plaza in dumfries yesterday. the shooter and two other people then ran away. a medevac helicopter flew the victim to the hospital. if you know about what happened, call prince william county police. we are working to find out how the person who was burned at a home in northwest washington is doing this morning. d.c. firefighters say the fire broke out on first and "o" street northwest yesterday. they believe it started because someone left some food on the stove. this morning the man charged with killing an officer while in custody is waking up in jail. police arrested travis boys yesterday morning. at they say he was spotted trying to get on a bus in new

orleans. he was still wearing his handcuffs at the time. he appeared dehydrated and he was taken to the hospital. the manhunt began saturday morning when boys was handcuffed in a patrol call. he somehow escaped and shot and killed an officer. boys is charged with first degree murder and aggravated escape. he is being held without bond. this morning the bodies of four irish students killed in the balcony collapse in california are back in ireland. the bodies and the victims' families arrived in dublin. they attended a private prayer service yesterday. six people died when the balcony collapsed in berkeley last week. this morning the fairfax county race is getting heated. wolf said a 37-year-old woman would be alive if the sheriff stacey kincaid provided more training for the deputies. wolf said they should have

received more training in handling people with mental illness. police tased the woman while in custody. she later died. sheriff kinkade is running for re-election. a new wrinkle in the effort to move a baseball team to spotsylvania county. the owner of the hagerstown suns wants to move them to the new stadium off route 1. well, if it was not available they aimed under a separate lawsuit filed last year. 4:51. time for weather and traffic on the 1s. we are in the middle of a heat wave. my goodness gracious. roasting out there chuck bell. >> it was hot out there yesterday afternoon and saturday ahead of the thunderstorms is another 90 degree day as well. so we're only going to string four or five days in a row, 90 or higher. the 90 degree count is way ahead of schedule, twice as many 90 degree days as would be average. out there we go. indeed, did -- you probably won't notice it but today we'll

degree mark. by later today though, heat indexes back up into the mid 90s across most areas. and that tells you that the humidity isn't so bad. rain chances today not a chance. tomorrow, 30% chance. dry on wednesday. and thursday, friday and the weekend looks like rain chances will be starting to increase. satellite and radar over the last 12 hours not much going on. off to a mostly sunny start today. no threat for rain, no threat for severe weather today. if you're traveling back towards detroit or chicago, you'll run into some storm chances there. those thunderstorm chances come our way for tomorrow. afternoon into the evening time frame but tomorrow, high up near 97 degrees. and near 90 degrees on wednesday and thursday. cooling down but coming with better rain chances as we head towards friday. unfortunately both days this weekend look like they'll have a chance for a shower. not good news. let's hope melissa has good news over in first 4 traffic. >> i can tell you that overall we have very light volume because nobody is on the roads

you're watching "news4 today." >> police are still trying to find the driver of a stolen car who slammed into another car in anacostia and then ran from the scene. these pictures were sent to us with the cars involved. it happened near anacostia high school yesterday. the driver who was hit did go to the hospital. she is expected to be okay. we don't know how long a starbucks in alexandria could be closed after someone drove into the front window. take a look. you can see the driver shattered

at least one window at the starbucks in the bradley shopping center on king street yesterday. alexandria police tweet ed these pictures. no one was hurt. well, this morning a young boy is safe after a massive tree came crashing down near him. this is in northern virginia. take a look. the family was about to leave the drive in fairfax when the mom heard the popping sound. she saw the tree falling in slow-mo and her son was in the tryway. >> i was standing by the door of the house. i could just yell run run run. he looked around stunned and then took off running towards the garage. thank goodness because he would have been hit by the tree. >> it landed on the neighbor's car. and they're thanking the fairfax county police for the quick response. it was what friday night that we saw all that thunder and the damage and the next morning high water. roads were closed in fact.
