morning. still a tad slow because we had two lanes blocked there. right now, going there at 33 miles per hour. beltway at route 50, everything is rolling along fine. then b.w. parkway, 95 and 29 into and out of town, everything looking quite good. back in ten minutes. good morning. i'm angie goff at the liven desk. a daring rescue saves lives out in illinois. this after a tornado touches down in the area. take a look. five people trapped in a camp ground were rescued. one person is in the hospital right now. they are in serious condition. we're learning that several others were hurt. now the storms and high winds trapped people in their rvs and campers. the problem is there are lots of downed trees and with it being so dark this morning, it's hard for rescuers to see the flooded roadways. back to you. it's time to remove the flag from the capitol grounds.

>> many are cheering south carolina governor nikki haley's call for lawmakers in her state to remove the confederate flag from the state house. it comes less than a week after a 21-year-old white man gunned down nine black people inside a church service. the "usa today" reports religious and political leaders are flocking to columbia to keep the lawmakers in session next week and vote on the flag. debate over the flag and what it means is reaching a fever pitch. now retailer walmart has eliminated all of the merchandise with the confederate flag on it from the stores. page after page of confederate themed goods are now gone from walmart store shelves and the website as well. one shopper we spoke with said she's happy to see the items go. >> it was just terrible, so i'm glad that they have made that decision. >> walmart is the nation's largest retailer. however, confederate flag

merchandise is still for sale on sites including amazon.com and ebay. today the loudoun county school board will reconsider the name of a middle school. they agreed to name it after john f. ryan. the local naacp wants the school renamed. the civil rights group says ryan's contributions to virginia's history may have included supporting racial segregation. the school board now has to decide if it will rescind the name and consider previously rejected options or submit new names. that vote will take place today. in montgomery county, the council will vote to -- vote on a bill that will require paid time off. it requires the employees a collapse to earn up to seven paid sick leave days a year. workers could also be allowed safe time to handle legal services for domestic violence, victim services and kounssling -- counseling. that vote is expected to happen in rockville today.

a man accused of beating a metro passenger may soon accept a plea deal. according to our news partner wtop, william nelson was granted a continuance yesterday after appearing in court. nelson was caught on camera beating the metro passenger earlier this month. this happened on a green line train. the video went viral and it was viewed by millions of people. nelson will now head back to court next tuesday. 4:36. the d.c. police union says more needs to be done to stop crime with people using illegal all terrain vehicles and dirt bikes. police are looking for 14 persons of interest in the shooting death of reporter charnice milton. surveillance video shows the people riding dirt bikes and atvs. the union says d.c. officers arrested 147 people for dirt bike or atv related charges in the past year and a half, but more than half have the charges dismissed. 33 were found guilty and all had

we are following a developing story this morning. an air strike killed an isis leader suspected in the attack that killed u.s. ambassador chris stephens and three others in libya. ali ani al harzi was killed in mosul, iraq, last week and he worked closely with extremists in north africa and the middle east. if you had contact with a stray orange tabby cat in spotsylvania county health workers want to hear from you. an orange tabby has tested positive for rabies. health officials know the cat travelled in and around level road and salem station boulevard. they know a young male between the ages of 12 and 15 and a woman driving a silver or gray suv helped rescue that cat. they may need to seek medical treatment right away. anyone with information on this cat should call the rappahannock district offices. we are anticipating

approaching 4:45 now. new details about the search for two missing prisoners in upstate new york. state police there say they found items in a hunting cabin they believe are linked to david sweat and richard matt. the men are both convicted murderers. they escaped a maximum security prison earlier this month. that cabin is 20 miles from the prison and police say they don't know where the men are right now. nbc has brand new 2016 poll numbers and these are the kind of polls that play a big roll in determines who gets to step on the debate statements in the -- stages in the coming months. let's get to tracie potts. >> who's on top, let's start with the democrats. hillary clinton with 75%, 60% more than senator bernie sanders. her closest competitor. more than nine out of ten democrats could support her. but when it comes to the huge field of 16 republican candidates and counting, jeb bush is on top for now in our

congress wants answers about how hackers stole information from the federal government. the senate will hold a hearing about federal security today. the office of personnel management says hackers stole information from millions of current and former federal workers. including some people who applied for but never got a job. also in the senate today we could learn how long it will take to replace tens of millions of faulty air bags in cars all over the world. takata recalled millions of air bags because they can explode rather than inflate. just last week, the government said that the air bags have been linked to eight deaths so far in the u.s. and today, senate democrats are on the spot. the white house watching a procedural vote closely to see if democrats will go along with it. if today's measure passes, that could ultimately give president obama a victory in his hard fought trade bill. senate republicans are hoping to draw enough pro trade democrats to their side today. several democrats have said that

they will vote for this measure. a retaining wall that collapsed and caused water to rush into the cemetery and wash up several coffins will be repaired today. this is what visitors at cedar hill cemetery in suitland saw on father's day. severe flooding caused a wall to give way. news4's chris gordon tried to get an interview with the cemetery manager. >> ever since 2000, july 8 -- 20 -- >> i have to ask you to leave the property. i'm the cemetery manager and i have to ask you to leave the property. >> these people are concerned that some coffins were floating. >> the cemetery manager eventually told news4 it was only one family who was affected and the problem had been taken care of. a state oversight committee will look into the complaints. it says affected families will have the plots moved at no cost. and fairfax county may make

changes when training police officers. they reviewed the use of force policy and had 71 recommendations. they included crisis intervention strategies to give people more time to assess a situation and call for help. this report comes two years after a fairfax county police officer shot and killed john geer. he was unarmed at the time. and the police department settled the wrongful death lawsuit with his family for $3 million. the montgomery county police department testing the body cameras and running into language barriers. they're having a hard time telling people when they're being recorded. chief major says he still supports the use of body cameras. today, tom brady is asking the nfl to undue a four-game suspension. he is supposed to sit out the games without pay because of the deflategate scandal from earlier

this year. and an investigation found brady was quote at least generally aware of several underinflated footballs during the team's afc championship win. nfl commissioner roger goodell will make that final decision in this case. oscar winning composer james horner has died in a plane crash. the single engine plane went down yesterday in the national forest in los angeles. aviation officials are now trying to figure out what caused that crash. hollywood has taken to social media to share their condolences. russell crowe sent out a tweet saying my sincere condolences to the family, loved ones and friends of james horner. horner wrote many prominent movie scores including those for "titanic," "avatar" and "braveheart." heads up for stargazers. a severe solar storm slammed into earth yesterday. that's increasing the chances for some of us to see the northern lights.
