>> tonight the fairfax county school board voted in favor of teaching gender identity and sec shah orientation in the family life education program which eventually is an elective class as opposed to putting in health classes they are mandatory. >> this means parents can opt out of classes if they want. tonight the fax county school board meeting was packed. the board in favor of adding gender identity and sexual orientation to the. if a life curriculum for 7 through 10th graderers. this after a heated public meeting last month when the school board voted in favor of gender identity protection to the district's off and on discrimination policy. parents and members of the lgbt community are pleased they have a choice to opt out if they want to. >> i'm happy for that. >> the right decision was made. parents deserve to have the right to opt out.

we want to make sure students who want and feed to bej indicate fd are in the right position. >> not everyone is happy. in fact some people walked out of the door there in front of the school. because they are upset that they say that this curriculum is not clear. they want to know exactly what the teachers would teach their students in terms of gender identity and sexual orientation. safe to say this issue is not over. for some it's only the beginning. >> thanks. new at # 11:00 the prince georges county school board approved the ceo's budget plan. it wasn't easy. the vote was 7-5. during the night's meeting parents complained about budget cuts to the school. system. the county council recorrect add plan to raise money by raising property taxes system we have breaking news now. a sightseeing plane carrying people including eight passengers from a cruise ship crashed in alaska.

le it went down near catchcan an hour's plane ride south of juneau. the plane is resting against a granite rock face. it was part of an excursion are from holland america's ship on a seven-day cruise from seattle. this is the type of plane. it's a sea plane that can carry up to ten people. it is commonly used in alaska. right now we do not foe if anyone survived this. the ntsb is monitoring the rescue efforts this alaska. >> back close to home and new tonight prince georges county executive baker says he'll work to help keep the purple line on track. baker responded to maryland gov author larry gan's conditional sport for the project. hogan said today the state will only offer up $170 million on the purple line. he wants prince georges and montgomery county taxpayers to

pony up the rest of the cash. the plan will cut costs by lengthening the time between stops. taxpayers we talked to in silver springs tonight were split on the plan. >> the traffic has increased. even in the middle of the day. tremendously. the purpose line would be really helpful. >> not spend the money . >> it could be used for shg else. getting the parking garage by the station would be great. >> governor gan announced nearly $2 billion today in funding for road projects all over maryland. it includes congestion rerelief on i-270, making route one safer for pedestrians between college avenue and university boulevard and a new interchange on the belt it is way at the green belt metro station. part of the effort to lure the fbi to prince georges county. darcy spencer has been working that part of the story fors. she's live in green belt with the latest. >> jim, we are live at the green belt metro station. this is a possible future site

of the new fbi headquarters. today's announcement shows the governor is willing to put up serious money to paycheck this a more attractive sight. thousands of commuters use the green belt metro in prince georges county every day. driving in and out can be a challenge. coming from the belt way you can only access it from the interloop going south. the only ramp is to the outer going out. >> you can learn it the hard way but you will never do it again. >> there is a back way. ty phoenix is new to the area. >> getting here can be challenging, especially if there is traffic. trying to get around the loop is challenging because it is mostly neighborhoods.

bans on gay marriage. that's expected on monday. the court upheld a key segment of the affordable care act -- tax subsidies for americans who get health care from federal exchanges. republican presidential candidates criticized the ruling. president obama said the law has become part of the fabric of america. >> democratic front runnerer hillary clinton will make her first campaign stop in virginia tomorrow. she'll attend a democratic party event at the patriots center in fairfax. it is an effort to help build energy for local elections this november. >> new tonight, a maryland man accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from unsuspecting atm users is now in jail. state police say raphael co rtero was using an atm skimmer and hidden camera to steal card numbers and pens. at least one skimmer was discovered at a sandy spring bank. investigators say he stole more

the beach today in ocean city. the beach patrol there says it's more worried about her safety than yours. the captain of the beach patrol tells us it's likely the shark is either sick or hurt. hammererheads are harmless to humans. the shark can grow to be more than 1,000 pounds. any time a shark swims on shore it will draw attention. the beach patrol said it will clear the water of swimmers if the shark returns. >> an investigator is trying to track down a serial killerer who was working in connecticut back in 2003. ended up in virginia. they went to the home of welcome david howell. he used to live in the home that officers searched today. looking for evidence in and around the home. >> we have begun a grid search of the ground where we are starting the tedious process of starting to dig through different areas on the ground. >> howell is a key suspect in the murderers of seven people in

new briton, connecticut. he was charged in only one of the cases. >> two men are under arrest accused of following and rob people after they walked out of a casino. according to the indictment they stalked at least four people leaving maryland live. he'd follow them times as far as virginia and rob them at gun point. stealing their winnings and credit cardser cell phones and in one case, even an ex pensive jacket. the incidents date back to 2013. >> well, a family in washington state came home from a game to find a giant ice chunk had crashed through their roof and landed in their closet. today think the ice came from an airplane -- yeah. that family is just glad no one was hurt. >>. >> the park is half a mile away. it could have fall thn a soccer game and someone could have been hurt. >> officials from the airport nearby are trying to figure out

dufkirk and prince frederick. mechanicsville to colonial beach seeing heavy rain. we have seen a lot of flooding as far as ponding on roadways. no real flooding issues. upwards of half an inch to an inch in less than an hour in some locations getting you flooding. this is part of the storm system we were watching before. we told you tonight we were not expecting much severe weather this evening. it would be after 8:00, 10:00. that's what we saw. you can see now behind us we are clearing. few more showers but the bulk of heavy stuff is out and will be for the night. temperatures now 74 degrees. dewpoint at 68. still moist. you can walk outside and feel what we are talking about. 71 in culpepper. 69 degrees. a mild night. waking up tomorrow. cloud cover. maybe some areas of fog. you think see the clouds, no showers. tomorrow afternoon. isolated shower here or there. 5:00 or 6:00 you may see one.

a good idea to take the umbrella with you just in case. most of us should remain dry. not a bad day on friday. saturday a different story. at 8:00 we already have showered through the region. off and on showers. most of this on saturday afternoon. should be on the moderate side. i don't think anything heavy but we could see heavier downs. it's saturday night. if you have plans saturday night, this is not good. gathersburg at 6:00. look what's happening around the region. everybody getting in on the action. we could see one, two, three inches of rain in parts of the area on saturday night. again, saturday fight is when the heaviest rain moves in. tomorrow, a slight chance of heavy rain. 85 degrees in d.c. 86 in fredricksburg. what are we going to see? 85 tomorrow. 78 on saturday. once again that's the day we are talking about the heavy rain in here during the evening hours. that's what we'll see. 80 on sunday. not bad. we'll see clouds early and
