fallout for the agency in charge of storing information on employees for the federal government. we have a new revelation. they are shutting down a huge database that it uses to update and store background investigation records. the agency finds a new flaw in the system that left it vulnerable to the hackers. although it's not believed that anyone got to that information. suspected chinese hackers did swipe the records for up to 18 million current and former federal workers and contractors just earlier this spring. we'll continue to follow the story for you at the live desk. first at 4:00, a a guilty plea from a man who was accused of threatening women during the holiday shopping season. christian jordan pled guilty. you may remember in december when a manhunt came to an end at the west field mall. he hid in the parking lot waiting for women to come by.

he would then use a bb gun to force them into a sexual act. >> the bb gun looked so similar to a real gun a that anybody that's not familiar with guns might think that it's a handgun. >> jordan will be sentenced later this year and could face up to 25 years in prison. nerves are on edge in a northwest d.c. neighborhood. the man who sexually a assaulted a woman in her home is still at large. it happened early saturday morning at 41st street near glover park. the man broke a window to get in sexually assaulted the homeowner, stole items from the house and ran off. police are looking for a a white male about 23 years old with a buzz cut and a dark backpack. that house is three blocks from the scene of the mansion murders. students at wooten high in rockville, maryland needed grief counselors to get through the day. two classmates died friday morning.

recent graduates were in the backseat when the vehicle flipped and landed in a neighbor's driveway. police say speed and alcohol were both factors in the crash. two other students in the car were also hurt. he paid thousands of dollars to settle a $30 bill for missed tolls. now he's fighting back to make sure other drivers don't have to do the sasm. news 4 transportation reporter adam tuss has more. >> reporter: what's happening here along the express lanes just isn't adding up for some drivers. we talked to one guy today who says, yeah, he missed a couple tolls here on the express lanes but the bill that he got hit with in response was massive. we're talking about thousands of dollars. and now a class action lawsuit has been filed against the operator of the lanes claiming that they are abusing their power. coming up on news 4 at 5:00 we'll hear how this guy had to settle his claim and what

transurban has to say if you get stuck with the same situation. along the beltway, adam tuss news 4. you'll soon find it easier to identify virginia's express lanes on the beltway and on i-95. the new four-inch purple stripes are being added inside the white and yellow stripes that lead to the express lanes. the idea is to make it clear that you're entering those lanes. a racing boat lost control and ran into some spectator's boats in. maryland and now the coast guard is trying to figure out why. a 7-year-old boy was killed in that crash and several others were injured. it happened over the weekend near kent island at the annual thunder on the narrows races. 5 miles away from there another boat capsized and a man fell in the water. the coast guard is still looking for him. he wasn't wearing a a life jacket and can't swim. >> you have to have it on before

the crash. so you always wear the life jacket and it makes it easier for us to spot you. >> the man is 32 years old and lives in silver spring. his family says a huge wave tossed them into the water. it's been two days and some folks in southern maryland are still cleaning up the mess from saturday's bad weather. this afternoon the national weather service confirmed two tornadoes touched down. the first one cut a a two-mile path through charles county. the second was on the ground for more than 16 miles. peak winds hit 90 miles per hour flattening several buildings and j daing others. let's get to meteorologist veronica johnson. can we absorb anymore rain? >> let's just say it's awfully wet now. we're moving up into the second wettest june on record. depending on where you are it's about the first. it's been very soggy all from the showers and thunderstorms that have been moving through. we have some more coming before

the end of the month. let's take a look at the radar now. i'm tracking a few showers that are show inging up on radar. you can see around morgantown and elkins, west virginia, light showers but the next two hours they will be making their way towards winchester. so part of your evening forecast a a warm one out there and pretty nice. isolated shower could be moving in by around 8:00. 78 your temperature. thn we're going to be dropping down to the 60s. but rain chances are up not only for tomorrow. this is the rain intensity forecast. as we go from showers to some pockets of moderate rain that will be around the area. i'll detail where those are going to hit and when and about our rain chances as we move through our first part of july. now to the major supreme court ruleing on lethal injection. today a divided court ruled that states can continue to execute prisoners with a controversial drug that's been implicated in several botched executions. death row inmates argued the

nbc universal is splitting with donald trump over comments made about immigrants. that means the miss america pageant won't air on nbc. he said they are bringing drugs and crime, they are rapists. nbcuniversal says respect and dignity for all people are corn cornerstones of its values. we're learning terrible new details about a plane that crashed into a house in massachusetts. a child was on that plane and died when the plane went down sunday. the crash also killed the other passenger and the pilot. the aircraft plowed into the top floor of a family's home and crashed in their backyard. a family of four was inside. ahead in our next hour, the homeowner explains how they got out alive. is it a coincidence?

since the church pass -- massacre, there have been six fires. the cause of the other three fires is undetermined. the fbi is investigating but have not said the fires are all linked. in the meantime the congregation from the church hit most recently is trying to pick up the pieces. but they will have to start from scratch. only a few charred pews remain at the glover grove church in warrenville, south carolina. nearby churches have reached out and their generosity lifts his spirits. >> god always provides and we know that. i feel encouraged. i don't feel low. i cry sometimes but it's not tears of sadness. it's tears of joy. >> there is no word on the official cause of the fire at that church. a local d.c. firefighter

there are still lots of questions about that horrible case of a mother and daughter lek cuted during weekend storms. the fire marshal and detectives returned to the house today where a portable sump pump was running when the electrocutions happened. >> reporter: police detectives and fire marble are trying to figure out how a portable sump pump similar to this one may have led to the death of a mother and 4-year-old child.

investigators say this woman used the same sump pump in the past. a portable sump pump was nearby and lekically charged the standing water. lilly and crystal were electrocuted. an electrician will be working with detectives and the fire marshal on this investigation. at 5:00 what our experts say about how this pump could have turned deadly. today mayor kicked off the summer youth employment program. it's the first time that training and jobs will go off without the late marion barry started the program in 1979. we spoke with a few students to hear what they want to get out of it. thousands of people have spread out for the first day of the d.c. summer youth program. we caught up with two very nervous and excited young people down at the wilson building. the 23-year-old sits at her desk

space station. >> the crew has enough food and water to last until the fall. over pressurization in and an oxygen tank is the likely cause. investigators are on the ground in alaska trying to figure out why a sight-seeing plane slammed into a cliff. eight cruise ship passengers and the pilot died in the crash. two of them were a dad and daughter from montgomery county. the plane went down in southeastern alaska where the terrain is steep, mountainous and a lot of times sees strong winds and rain. the tour was an excursion from a holland america cruise. if bobbi kristina brown's family was feuding you wouldn't know it. for the first time this morning two of her aunts visited brown together sharing a long embrace outside the facility. tyler perry stopped by to visit the daughter of whitney houston. bobbi kristina brown was found unconscious in a bathtub at

home. she's been taken off life support and moved to hospice. officials in maryland confirm 62-year-old died when his pontoon boat went over a dam. eight others survived without injuries. this is video of four of them who were trapped on the rocks and who had to be rescued. no one on the boat was wearing a life jacket at the time. officials say a dog that was reportedly on board is still missing. if we g can bottle up days like this i don't think people would be complain inging. >> that it would, but we're looking a ahead to the rain chances we have coming up for the end of the month. the rainfall total for the month of june is close to 12 inches. these are going to make their way into the d.c. area. but they could hold together enough that by the time they get to spots like winchester,

now to a developing story vovming the greece financial crisis. stocks plunged to the worst day of the year. . the dow fell 350 points over growing tensions with greece and its creditors. this comes as greek citizens rushed to atms and lined up outside gas stations. standard and poors cut their credit rating over their financial crisis. the country put a $67 limit on atm withdrawals after closing banks for the week. it's meant to keep money in the

financial system and push the cred creditors to offer concessions before a bailout program expires tomorrow. foreign banks are not restricting money to terrorists, but the long lines are making it very challenging for visitors there. some big news for a silver spring based company. discovery communications secured the european broadcast rights for four olympics games. it's a landmark deal worth more than $1 billion. they will broadcast in 2018 through 2024 in europe. discovery has also agreed to collaborate with the olympic committee on its new year round olympics channel. a federal agency and google are teaming up to bring another alert for your cell phone. the federal railroad administration asked to develop an alert that lets you know when you're approaching railroad crossings. the alert will include audio and visual clues. so far google is the only

the extra time is there to make up and adjust for the earth's rotation, which has been slowing down and is now about 2 milliseconds too long every day. stock markets are concerned about how the extra seconds will impact their computers because electronic trading can happen in less than a second. the last was in 2012 but that fell on a a saturday. new numbers make it clear that americans are more of working mothers than ever before. researchers at san diego state university looked at attitudes towards working mom and family roles. between 1976 and 2013 recent surveys show 22% of high school seniors think a young child suffers if their mother works. that number is down from 59% back in the '70s. adults feel the same as the high school seniors. >> this is just an amazing story out in nevada. a woman in labor got lost. she ran out of gas and had had

to give birth all alone in a national forest. amber was driving to her mom and dad's house when she started having contractions so she took a shortcut through the forest but her car ran out of gas and there was no cell service. she had no choice but to give birth on her own. for the next three days she protected her daughter from mosquitoes and bees and to hope for someone to rescue her. on saturday she had to start a signal fire and then within two hours a fire helicopter spotted the stranded pair and they sent help. >> i was crying because i thought we were going to die. i was so glad someone had had seen us and we were going to be okay. >> that baby better give her mom a break after all that. they were both rushed to the nearest hospital. they are both going to be okay but what a story. >> that is a story. a crash and the house that

my wife and my boys were upstairs when the plane hit. the boys' rooms are the ones burnt behind me. >> talk about a close call. it was just a quiet sunday evening at home until a plane came crashing into their roof. a doctor from tennessee and his wife and daughter were killed. they were flying to boston for a college visit. the fire chief says it's a miracle anyone made it out of the house alive. for the first time the homeowner tells us what it was like. ed. >> reporter: a family escapes after a plane crashes into their

home. >> e we heard a loud bang. some of the neighbors said you're used to explosions here and the house shaking. when i saw the fireball go down the back of the house, we realized it was more serious. >> reporter: his two boys r were upstairs in their bedrooms. when they saw the flames they rushed outside. >> i don't know how the plane hit. what i know is that the house above my kids' rooms was on fire when i came outside. >> reporter: a small single engine craft reported having engine problems and couldn't make a safe emergency landing. three people on board including a child died in the crash. neighbors in the quiet cul-de-sac heard the plane and knew something was wrong. >> the engine was sputtering, but it wasn't gliding. >> it flew right over the rooftop. and it was very low over the trees. it hit the back of the house.

>> reporter: the home e erupted in flames with no hydrants in town, firefighters had a tough job. the plane broken in pieces, the tail still in the yard. investigators now on scene trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. >> we need to have support for that family. they are in far graver circumstances than we are. >> beach goers in north carolina are on high alert after two more shark attacks. take a look at the youtube video. it shows a 7-foot shark being reeled in by three fisherman on friday. the woman who shot the video says this happened an hour's drive from where a shark attacked a man the same day. the next day an 18-year-old boy nearly died during an attack. north carolina usually sees about five shark bites a year. there's already been six this month. but experts say warmer waters and more swimmers play a role and so does all the cell phone video we're watching.

>> the reality is that we're not under siege by sharks. what we have is a change in perception as opposed to a change in reality. >> in fact, experts say you're more likely to be hurt in a car accident on the way to the beach than actually bitten by a a shark once you get there. the solar plane derailed by bad weather is now back in the air and headed for hawaii. the pilots took off from their expected stop after that stop in japan this morning. they are expected to reach hawaii by the end of the week. after that they plan to head to arizona, new york city. if the plane makes it, it would be the first wing eded aircraft to fly around the world fuelled only by the sun. you can see the flames as firefighters in washington state battle a blaze that's already destroyed two dozen homes and two businesses. the blaze began sunday afternoon. fed by high temperatures and

strong winds it spread quickly to more than 3,000 acres. homes and two wholesale fruit packing companies burned and. people are under evacuation orders. the greater phoenix area is back online after dust storms knocked out power to 50,000 people over the weekend. the storms carried winds more than 40 miles an hour. sand storms are caused by strong winds in arid regions. chuck, when's our next storm? >> our next storm chance comes as early as tomorrow, but this is not going to be the same kind of storm chance we had had on saturday. saturday was crazy inundated with rainfall. tomorrow we go back to just the usual scattered showers and thunderstorms around primarily during the daytime heating during the peak of the afternoon. temperatures for today are very tolerable indeed. 80 in charlottesville. 8 82 downtown.

79 in annapolis. seven-day forecast time, the next couple days, tomorrow warm front goes by tonight. that brings the more humid air back in the picture for tomorrow. that's the reason thunderstorm chances are back as well. the front brings an enhancement in the rain chance and once we're in place in the warm air tuesday, lower rain chance and higher temperatures. 89 tomorrow, 90 on wednesday. the second half of the week, a better rain chance for thursday and friday. highs cooler in the 80s. that's all right because all anyone is looking forward to is the end of the week and on into 4th of july weekend. that's where we have some of our best weather of the next seven coming. saturday, 4th itself, can't rule out an ice lalted shower, but rain chances are less than 30%. sunday looks like it's going to be a dry day. that's also welcome news. a lot of folks already thinking i could leave for the beach early. if you do that, not bad beach weather. thursday and friday a shower chance there.

we have been hearing a lot about shark attacks lately, but a different creature has folks on edge in texas. a 13-year-old boy wasplaying along the banks of lake charlotte over the weekend when a gi tor latched on to his arm. the boy's family all jumped in to help and manage edd to pry the boy's arm out of the jaws but not before the gator bit the boy's father in the leg. wildlife officials say the rains have gators lurking in place thas usually are not seen. >> we have a lot of back waters. especially with the recent flooding we have seen, there's gators in areas you might not find them. >> both the dad and son are out of surgery and are going to be okay. >> that's good news. just weeks before his appeal, former boston crime boss is publicly expressing remorse. >> his words of regret come not

hit-and-run accident this weekend. >> donna clark was 56 and she loved hitting the road on her bicycle but friday night she was struck and killed on her bike in capital heights. tracee wilkins is live on the scene. >> reporter: they still have markings here on the roadway. you can see the impact of the accident. where it first happened and where she was thrown here on the roadway. now prince georges county police are looking for the driver of the vehicle responsible and the family is looking for answers. >> she wasn't too far away. less than two miles. >> reporter: just before 11:00 p.m. friday, 56-year-old donna clark was riding her bike home when tragedy struck. >> they hit her so hard that she died. >> reporter: according to a witness who called an ambulance -- >> two cars were racing going south on richie road and at the
