day. there's fog we have patchy dense fog in some of the rural areas. look at the visibility. down to zero in manassas. parts of northern virginia this is down at zero visibility. just a quarter to a half a mile. culpepper down to a half a mile. half mile visibility in frederick. closer to washington though not as much fog as well as around the bay. some of the mountain valleys as well have a little bit of fog around. a little light fog there at the capitol. by 7:00 we'll number the upper 60s. still patchy fog around. then by 9:00 the low 70s, and then late morning we'll be in the upper 70s with increasing clouds as we get into the afternoon. now let's check on the get away traffic this morning. >> we do understand it's on the shoulder. this is near gallos road. the crash is on the shoulder. wide look at the beltway must be good. green. no major problems. a lot of the road you normally

see was all stopped yesterday. 66 here at 95. no issues. let's take a live look at 66. it's not what i wanted show you. we do have a lot of fog there. especially if you are in the manassas area. back in a few minutes. >> thanks melissa. the national park service will hold a full dress rehearsal for tomorrow's capitol celebration. the annual concert brings thousands to the national for d.c.'s world famous fireworks display. singers will begin rehearsals at 9:00 a.m. this morning on the capitol's west lawn. >> while the fourth of july is a time to celebrate our nation's independence and spend time with family, police agencies around our area are on high alert. the big threat this year is a lone wolf terror attack. that's because groups like isis are using social media to call for attacks and to recruit followers. news 4 derek ward live on the national mall with more on how police plan to keep you and your family safe this holiday

weekend. >> well, the increased scrutiny isn't in response to any specific threat, but on thes the minds of everyone who is responsible as preparations get underway. now, again, there is no specific threat. they are more worried about inspiration from isis inspired calls to attack or do something neff airus against u.s. interests both locally and national and internationally. the fbi is actually increasing their emphasis on tracking those so-called home grown actors against some domestic target. now, as the preparation for the concert get underway over on the mall there is new restrictions. glass bottles are on the list of things you cannot bring on to the concert grounds. police have asked leaders in congress to curtail the access to the capitol. a lot of times they have visitors in the capitol and things like that but they're

you can't forget the rain in the forecast this weekend as well. >> you won't have any trouble hitting the roads in wheaton this weekend. crews are done putting georgia avenue back together after a water main break. things went back to normal before 10:00 last night. the southbound lanes had been lossed since wednesday afternoon near arcola avenue when a huge water main broke and flooded the street with 2.5 million gallons of water. developing this morning alexandria police are investigating that city's first homicide of the year. police found a man on north fayette street suffering from a gunshot wound. this is a picture of the scene now where police have been working through the night. police say that someone shot 22-year-old shacon elliott tibz around 11:30 last night. he died at the hospital. call police if you have any information. also new this morning, we're learning about possible shooting in prince georges county. this happened about 10:00 last night in glendale. we saw prince georges police station investigating in the street near fairway court. there were evidence markers in

the street. those are visible in that video. we've got calls into police right now to bring you more information about possible victims in this case. six people being treated at a hospital after a carbon monoxide leak in northeast d.c. d.c. fire and ems tweeted out these pictures last night. crews evacuated people from a building on 22nd street officials say the six people transported to the hospital. we're in serious condition, but it looks like they're going to make it. two people remain in critical condition after a deadly crash at the world police and fire games in virginia. a rider blew a front tire during a cycling competition causing a crash in the prince william county forest yesterday. that started a terrible chain reaction where several riders went down. 48 wrerld brazilian police investigator carlos silva died. this morning his teammates are remembering him as a man who loved police work and his family. >> it's a pleasure to be here. he loved what he do. he loved to be here.

developing right now. a man in the midwest could be in big trouble for threatening president obama. the president was in lacrosse, wisconsin, on wednesday talking about overtime pay. brian dutcher, 55 years old walks up to security there, and police say he told a guard he would take president obama out if he got the chance. he told detectives according to police he was serious. right now mr. dutcher is being held at a mental health facility. back to you. >> kristen, thank you. this is the stuff of nightmares, folks. this video shows a fisherman battling a giant bull shark from a kayak. this video taken off the coast of florida for an on-line fishing show. >> who is tape this? >> the show is called chew on this. >> oh god.

5:16. by 6:00 tonight the son of the late d.c. councilman marion barry is due to report to square. christopher barry was stinsed to 15 days after he was caught driving with a remote license. that's a violation of his probation. barry will serve that time on the weekend. there is no evidence the irs told employees to hide information from congress. some lawmakers accuse the agency

of erasing emails related to the irs's tea party scandal. invest erased computer backup tapes by mistake. a lost e-mail investigation is part of a larger probe into the treatment of conservative groups when they applied for tax exempt status during the 2010 and 2012 elections. a group that wanted to plaster ads of the prophet mohammed on buss and trains has sued metro. the american freedom defense initiative says the transit agency violated its free speech after refusing to post the ad. after the mohammed submission metro dieded to ban all religious advertising for the remainder of the we're. another former lawmaker from the dmv jumping into the race for the white house. former virginia senator jim webb running for the democratic presidential nomination. that makes him the fourth candidate to challenge hillary clinton. webb is a naval academy

graduate. the latest cnn-orc poll has -- tell you we're going to work on this story for you and try to bring it back a little later in the newscast. could insulin pills prevent diabetes? scientists are testing the idea in children and adults in a big study funded by the national institutes of health. to qualify patients must prove that they are at risk of developing type i diabetes. that's the time usually diagnosed in childhood and affects over a million americans. for decades insulin shots have been a life saving treatment. moms to be in the u.s. are gaining more weight during pregnancy than they should. a recent constituted where i in berlin shows that many pregnant women in the u.s. are overweight at the start of their pregnancies. according to the study that compared swrerman and american women, 15 to 25 pounds is the recommended weight gain during pregnancy. medical experts recommend getting to a healthy weight before deciding to have a baby.

5:19 your time here. most don't think that tuberculosis is -- it's taken thousands of people in this country every year. door even has more on how devastating this disease can be and the rockville lab that's working to eradicate this. >> don't think that people actually get tb but that's what they said i had. >> it was the fall of 2013, and shocka said he had a little cough. there was a bit of a cold and fooer. sounds like symptoms of the flu maybe. not so much to worry about. when weeks went by and things had gotten even worse, his doctor sent him to the emergency room. >> my eyes -- i was seeing weird, walking weird. i was going deaf in one ear. >> doctors diagnosed brown with disseminated tubberculosis. it was not just in his lungs. it was all over his body, including his liver brain, and prostate. he spent months in the hospital

where doctors gave him massive doses of antibiotics. >> i remember sitting there and looking, and i had a cable and it was 27 pills in front of me, and it wasn't like the 27 pills that day. it was 27 pills at that time. >> weeks after he was released from the hospital doctors found lesions in his brain that were getting bigger. the tb bacteria was still wreaking havoc in his body. his doctors didn't want to take a chance, so he underwent brain surgery to remove the growth. >> we say tb and there's tb everywhere, and it's true because it spreads through the air. >> ann ginsburg is working to create a tb vaccine. she says their focus is preventing the disease in young adults who are the ones that most likely are to spread the bacteria. right now there's a vaccine for newborns, but it doesn't last very long, and typically babies don't spread tb because it doesn't attack their longs. sfloob it clearly isn't

controlling the epidemic. even though 90% of newborns get vaccinated with it. >> about 10,000 people are diagnosed with tuberculosis every year. more than half of them are foreign-born citizens. look at this on a gleebl scale, and you can see how devastating it really is. each year more than 9 million people are diagnosis around the world. 1.5 million will die. adding to the problem tb bacteria continues to mutate making it tougher to treat. that includes the recent case of a woman being held in isolation at nih. >> the ultimate game changer here is a vaccine. >> shocka brown was finally sent home from the hospital march 2013, but he had to keep taking antibiotics until last may. 18 months after he was first admitted to the hospital. >> that was a sense of relief but it's just a big sense of freedom. >> door even ginslor, news 4. only 10% of people infected

right now we have just past full moon in the western sky thanks to our photographer for grabbing that live picture there of the moon. on the eastern sky we take a look now at the live towercam are a. it's glowing as we have sun now beginning to light up the upper atmosphere. sunrise not until 5:37. for the morning we'll have that sun with a little bit of haze in the air and a little bit of fog around. then just a few clouds by noontime. then after you may get a bit of a blue sky, but then clouds close back in tonight. look at our temperatures. just a cool morning. it's only around 60 degrees. shenandoah valley all the way to the bay. right near the waters. upper 60s. out of the mountains right now, it's just in the 50s with the patchy fog around. we will have a little bit of haze in the air. temperatures upper 60s to near 70 by 8:00 a.m. by noon, upper 70s. then during the afternoon into the low 80s. increasing clouds and those clouds closing in and bringing

liftoff. >> the ship should arrive at the international space station on sunday. that rocket is carrying water, food spare parts and experimental equipment too to anxiously awaiting its arrival after two previous supply missions failed. this morning we're hearing from passengers who were on board a flight from dulles airport. we're learning that a woman started making threats on the united express flight. that flight left st. louis en route to dulles when the pilot was forced to land a plane in columbus, ohio. >> i was told to put my tray up, my computer away, and we were only about halfway through the flight. then we just took a nosedive right towards the ground and just did a really quick landing. this isn't dulles airport. >> officers arrested the woman. the remaining passengers were isolated with luggage and a far corner of the airport while bomb sniffing dogs checked them all out. they didn't find anything and we still don't have any word on what exactly the threats were on that plane. a lot of people are reacting to a new plan to transform part

friday edition of news 4 today. i'm erika. >> your weather and traffic on the ones. of course, everyone wants to know what to expect going into the holiday weekend. >> exactly right. folks are getting ready to hit the road let's go to storm team 4 meteorologist and let you know what you are up against. >> it may be running into patchy fog this morning. watch out for that. definitely use beams and slow down as the fog is patchy. maybe driving along and it's nice and clear. you are coming into a wall of fog that will quickly reduce your visibility. down to maybe near zero like it is now in frederick and manassas. only four miles visibility in culpepper. zero visibility in martinsburg. shenandoah valley mountains it's mostly a mile or with better visibility and it's really not much fog around the bay or the metro area. this morning we'll have that will sunshine with pass patchy fog. then in the afternoon mostly dry. isolated shower. small chance of that during the

afternoon. we'll be up into the low 80s by later this afternoon. then overnight tonight that's when we'll likely see some of that rain begin to move in. right now the main problem on the roads weather-wise, anyway is that fog. it's pretty damp. you're seeing that on 66, right? >> you are seeing a lot of fog on 66. our weather caused this problem here just to the left of 95. northbound dumfries road shut down after springggs road because of a bad crash. you can work around it once you get. bay bridge looking good no matter which way you're headed. teaing a lack at principal prince georges county. also everything rolling along quite nicely here. >> thank you. 5:32 right now. this july 4th is shaping up to be a more challenging one for law enforcement. authorities are on heightened alert for possible lone wolf

arrested the mother's boyfriend and chashlged him with first degree assault. robert wilson got mad because the 9 wrerld ate the cake without permission. the charging documents say wilson handcuffed the boy while he beat him. >> a wildfire is under control after destroying almost 30 homes. firefighters say the sleep where i hollow wildfire is almost 100% the fire was fueled by high temperatures and strong winds. almost 3,000 acres have burned. more than 300 firefighters saw the blaze that started on sunday. we're learning that 300 people had to evacuate the homes. the u.s. drone strike killed a senior isis leader in syria. his name is tariq bin zahar. he coordinated the use of suicide bombing attacking in iraq and helped with the movement of foreign fighters and forth across the syrian border. officials say his death will hurt the state's ability to move

foreign fighters in and out of that region. three people got infected with ebola. a 17-year-old boy died earlier this week. he was the first recorded case in that country since it declared it was free of the deadly virus just last month. the government says two other people who shared a meal with the teenager have also been infected. the court clerk in kentucky being sued because she won't issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. four couples -- davis says her christian beliefs prevent her from going along with last week's supreme court ruling. the aclu joining this lawsuit to get around licenses to same-sex couples. davis has stopped issuing licenses to all people. >> it seems that a lot of people have turned to selfie sticks so why did it land a montgomery county man in jail. that's questions coming up. 5:37.
