on the scene of a deadly shooting, this in act achy. derrick ward has the overnight developments. >> reporter: yes, miss are still on the -- police are still on the scene in the farmington woods development. just off of indian head highway in accokeek. i talked to some neighbors who say the house is the source of some problems. 1:00 a.m., when a large party was going on in this house, with cars parked all along a road that leads in to this community. a road that leads from the community to indian head higherway. one person was shot and pronounced dead at the nearby hospital and several cars were towed away from the scene of the shooting. but it stems from this house party. neighbors say that this house has had two owners and it's been a problem spot in the community. large parties, fight parties and other parties on different

ichord was apparently upset over the 2008 vote to send her kids to separate high schools. smith voted in favor of the school boundary swap. smith tells "the washington post" she plans to be back out canvassing again today. today there will be -- a 9-year-old boy who died because he was beaten after eating a birthday cake. jacks garcia died days after his birthday.with first degree assault and child abuse. prosecutors say they're considering more charges. we're working to find out the conditions of three people taken to hospital following severe turbulence. here's what happened. they were on board a united airlines flight, going from puerto rico to dulles. reuters reports two flight attendants were hurt.

another flight hit some pretty bad turbulence but folks didn't need any medical attention. right now, eurozone finance ministers are meeting in greece where the prime minister to talk about a possible bailout. today could be greece's last chance to convince creditors it deserves more financial help to rescue it from the financial crisis. some european finance leaders say they want specific and binding commitments from greece before they agree to the third bailout. we just got this in to our news4 newsroom. negotiators could reach a deal with iran today. two diplomats tell the associated press the agreement will be sent for review and the nuclear deal could be announced as soon as tomorrow. now, the talks they're going on in vienna. the deal could bring to an end nearly a decade of negotiations. the current round of talks has lasted more than two weeks. right now there are several online petitions asking for the removal of the name jefferson davis from route 1 in northern

virginia. the united daughters of confederacy asked the highway be named in the honor of the confederate deal. it runs through arlington, alexandria and fairfax. it stretches down into prince william, stafford and spotsylvania counties. jackie jackie bensen spoke with the man who started one of the fe titions. >> reporter: most people don't even register the official name of the significant part of route 1 as it threads through northern virginia. it bears the name of the president of the confederacy, jefferson davis. >> it was six weeks before the charleston massacre that dreadful charleston massacre. >> reporter: the reaction to the pet >> 3,000 people have signed it so far last time i looked. i also had some negative reaction to it as well. which is expected and those

>> a developing story this morning. mexico's most notorious drug lord is on the run again. we just learned joaquin guzman known as el chapo escaped through an elaborate tunnel in his cell. mexican security officials say the tunnel was more than 1,500 meters long. it had ventilation and stairs. on the other end officials found a motorcycle what thb used -- that had been used to remove dirt. this is guzman's second prison escape. in 2001, the leader of the notorious sinaloa cartel broke out of a maximum security facility as well with the help of guards. he was recaptured last year. a manhunt underway for the father of a missing 6-month-old baby. police in northern california

called the man a person of interest last week and they believe he's armed with a stolen gun. the man is a convicted felon. and also in california, some incredible video. police now looking for whoever was driving this car. you'll notice the car is going the wrong way. someone drove this car backwards down this winding road. this is near los angeles. the driver did this for more than two miles without running into anyone or anything. police now checking the car's license plate to try to find that owner. dangerous. new details on a blast that knocked a beach goer to the ground in rhode island. what police did not find that's creating mystery around what exactly happened. and let's take you outside for a live look right now. a beautiful start on the sunday. it seems like it will hold that way f

new this morning a rhode island beach is going to reopen after an explosion that sent a woman to the hospital. this happened in narragansett, rhode island, yesterday. the woman was sitting on the beach near the water when this was a loud boom. she was catapulted six weeks into the air. and authorities searched the beach and didn't find any kind of explosive device. they say there's no further threat to other beachgoers. looking at the week ahead. starting tomorrow, crews will close lanes on i-66 between

route 29 in gainesville and in haymarket. crews will set new steel beams for the new old carolina bridge. they will rebuild the overpass. more than four miles of this -- of 66 through haymarket will be widened. the $73.5 million project is expected to be completed august of next year. if you live in prince william county you're enjoying the brand new way the get on to i-66, similar to the area where kristin was telling you about. county leaders opened up this brand new interchange in gainesville. news4's transportation reporter adam tuss has more. >> virginia for you. >> it is more. >> more and more traffic. >> reporter: mixing with a freight railroad line. terrible things would happen to folks involved in that. >> reporter: so you build an interchange to help. and cut a ribbon. >> thank you, vdot.

bit down the road. for now, here in gainesville, time to learn this new route. >> i got turned around and took me way longer than it was supposed to. >> reporter: right. a lot of twists around turns now. >> yeah. absolutely. well this morning a man and his dog are safe after the coast guard rescued them from the gulf of mexico. pretty dramatic here. they were sailing from new orleans to tampa. here they are after the rescue. their boat became disabled and went adrift for three days. and then the boat contact fire. while they boat got into the dinghy and the man sent out a distress call. >> there was a lot of smoke. not much left of the boat. >> when i saw the smoke i knew that we found what we were looking for. so that actually made it easier. you know? so we were about ten nautical miles away when i started to see the smoke in the distance. >> well the boater said he did take in some smoke before getting off the sailboat. rescuers found him clinging to his dog.

amazing they made it through that. >> yeah. people don't realize when you're visiting the gulf, the water is very, very warm. mid to upper 80s and that's great. but if you're in the water long enough, hypothermia is a real problem because you can't get your core temperature down that low. dangerous stuff. he's a lucky guy for sure. >> and the dog. >> lucky dog to boot and best friend. made it easier for him over the three days to have his best buddy with him. we have very little in the way of weather concerns for today. as you get into the tuesday afternoon time frame, weather eye to the sky for sure. could be facing strong to severe thunderstorms coming our way on tuesday. between now and then should be relatively quiet. outside on a hazy start to a sunday now. it's a beautiful looking shot over downtown d.c. the monument and the jefferson memorial in the sunshine. we're at 79 at reagan national. not much of a breeze, not the

by 11:00. mild start later on this afternoon. mid to upper 80s for most, the only real shower chance is along interstate 81 and that's a low threat for rain. open the top and enjoy your sunday. at least 100 people are staying with hotels or with relatives in washington state all because of a wildfire. this is burning across central washington. we can show you where. firefighters are calling in reinforcements at this hour because the fire is about 10,000 acres wide. so far it's only threatened houses in the rural communities. there have been more than 300 fires in washington state this year alone. two people are recovering in the hospital right now after they were hit by a car in ocean city, maryland. not clear if they were there on vacation or what but we're told the car hit them yesterday when it swerved right an to the sidewalk. no word on why the driver lost control. the people hit are okay. a man accused of crashing

into a state trooper while under the influence. police arrested dilzzola kunia. they say he crashed into the back of the cruiser. the trooper was treated for minor head injures. the crash happened yesterday morning of 395 in alexandria. it happened while the trooper was on the scene of another dui stop. removal of the confederate flag from the south carolina state house has evoked strong emotions. it continues over whether it's a symbol of hate or heritage. nbc's curtis mcleod spoke with one group in virginia who says it's a symbol of their southern heritage. >> reporter: with flags held high engines roaring, nearly 200 people came out standing in solidarity to pay tribute and honor the confederate flag. >> whether you're red, white, black or yellow, come and join. >> reporter: many did, coming from all across the state and some from the carolinas.

the days are starting to get shorter, but perfect outdoor weather for your evening. here is the future weather. not much to worry about for now. the mid to high level clouds from the west. they may bring a small chance for a few showers out into the shenandoah valley. future weather by 6:00 today. so the bulk of the daylight hours, nothing to worry about, but late afternoon into early evening could see showers out to winchester. a little cluster of showers most are going southeast bound. so they'll be in far west virginia and tennessee. no severe weather threat for us today. but a moderate risk for severe weather up to the twin cities chicago to indianapolis, to cincinnati, threat for severe weather tomorrow. that's a severe weather threat for us as we get into the day on tuesday. so that'll probably be the one day this week where we need to focus on the most. it will be your tuesday. today not much to worry about.
