temperature in the afternoon. we'll talk about monday and tuesday rain chances when i come back. >> thanks. we are staying on top of what is a developing story. a man shot and killed overnight in accokeek. neighbors say it happened during a house party. >> news4's derrick ward just spoke to a neighbor. derrick? >> reporter: well, good morning, again. we are outside the farmington woods community. a single family development tucked away off route 410, indian head highway in accokeek. see this house behind me? this is the premiere house in the development, but neighbors say it's the source of trouble. loud and boisterous parties and often block neighbors from getting to their house. outside the development is where a lot of cars parked to attend the party. there's the obligatory plastic cups to say there was a party here and there was something else last night. 1:00 a.m. when police responded

to this place outside the development where they found an adult male who had been shot and that person later died at the hospital. we don't have an identity of that victim or any sort of suspect lookout. but we talked to neighbors around here, they said that last night was one of those parties that they have so often talked about. and some have complained about. this man tell us what he saw. >> when i was coming through here yesterday, there was maybe three -- i would say had to be at least 300 people in there. it was so many -- you couldn't even get past here really. it was cars on both sides all the way down each side, all where the restaurants are. it was -- i thought there was something serious happening. >> reporter: we actually understand that some of the neighbors actually complained to police about not being able to get to their homes. we don't know what the response was. you know, there was a point in prince george's county where they had considered sort of having police stationed outside of large parties like this

because there had been several incidents maybe a year or two ago where they had resulted in violence. we don't know if that law went into effect or if it was in play here. again, investigating a homicide around 1:00 a.m. this morning. derrick ward, news4. >> thank you very much. new this morning a fairfax county school board members says a woman attacked here while canvassing for votes this week. kathy smith was out canvassing yesterday and pamela ichord then attacked smith. smith said ichord ran toward her screaming, ripped a clipboard out of her hands and ripped her sunglasses off her face. ichord was upset over a vote that sent her kids to separate high schools. smith vote in favor of the school boundary swap. smith plans to be back out canvassing on that very same street today. well, today there's going to be a vigil for a 9-year-old boy who died after being beaten

after eating a piece of birthday cake. the vigil is at 7:30 tonight at hagerstown. jack garcia died days after his birthday. police say his mother's boyfriend robert wilson handcuffed and beat the boy for eating cake without permission. wilson is charged with first degree assault and child abuse. prosecutors say they are considering other charges as well. we're working to find out the conditions of three people taken to the hospital following severe turbulence. they were aboard a united airlines flight flying from puerto rico to dulles. reuters reports two flight attendants also hurt. another flight from san francisco ran into bad turbulence but folks aboard that plane didn't need any medical attention. right now, a possible deal to bail out greece could be in the works. after days of negotiating, greek's prime minister says he is ready for a compromise. european finance ministers say

they do want specific and binding commitments before an agreement. negotiators could reach a nuclear deal with iran today. two diplomats tell the associated press the agreement will be sent for review and barring last minute objections the deal could be announced as soon as tomorrow. the talks are going on in vienna. secretary of state john kerry and his western allies are working to keep iran from developing nuclear weapons. here is what is coming up in the week ahead. tomorrow, montgomery county leaders will talk about the purple line. the county council is meeting to talk about new proposals to scale plans for the light rail plan back. they'll discuss budget plans proposed last week. and then friday, an 18-year-old accused of killing a man on a metro train will be in court. d.c. police arrested jasper spires, they say he stabbed american university graduate kevin sutherland to death on a

started to be aggressive. >> reporter: by nature they're timid animals but now they fear the coyotes more than the coyotes fear them. jesse smith is relieved her baby wasn't with her when she came face to face with him. >> i yelled and started waving my feet and he didn't back off. >> reporter: irvine has seen four coyote attacks each getting more brazen. the first in a park, the other near a playground and then a small child attacked in the garage and the 7-year-old scratched inside her family living room. thankfully, none of the injuries were life threatening. >> i moved out here because it's more rural but i didn't expect the coyotes down the street. >> reporter: wildlife experts say the drought isn't helping and pushing them into more populated areas for food and water. coyotes have been adapting to city life. in chicago watch as this coyote fitted with a gps collar and

you're watching "news4 today." >> back at 10:15. this morning south carolina's governor nikki haley emerging as a rising star within the gop. >> yeah. this comes after an historic week in her state and friday's removal of the confederate flag from the capitol grounds of course. a move that she championed. chuck todd sits down with governor haley this morning. we want to know if it will serve as momentum for other states to remove confederate flags --

symbols of the confederacy. virginia and the federal government is deal withing this right now. >> you'd think of the symbolic nature of south carolina, this is first state that seceded from the union and now the first state to fully bury the confederate flag under all parts of the designation and look other southern states have slowly gotten rid of it. i'll be curious about mississippi georgia which still uses -- which models the state flag after the original flag of the confederacy. i think you'll see the movements happen fairly quickly because if south carolina did it why can't you? right? that's sort of the -- the brand new charge a little bit. it's a fascinating contrast thinking of this ending to the confederate flag, flying up on one hand and then what we have with donald trump. this should be a momentous occasion and then trump is leading them down another path. >> got governor haley on your

mind. national chatter she is a vp contender. >> i think she might have been before hand, but this puts her in. she'll be a voice for how conservatives can have a good conversation on racial reconciliation. you know, that had not always seemed to go family together. that puts her as an important voice there. i asked her about it. she gives a fascinating answer about all the new attention. you don't want to miss that she has to say about that. >> and you mentioned donald trump. still doing very well in the polls despite what he said. how is the gop going to navigate this? >> use whatever metaphor you want, ticking time bomb. they're trying to find this wire act of condemning trump, but he's such a problem, such a lightning rod that republican candidates are going to have to ask themselves what is this going to look like in a year? what are their actions going to look like a year from now? i think i have a feeling this

could be a week that the party truly comes down harder on him. >> all right. chuck todd, got about 12 minutes. >> you got it. >> you'll head over to that studio right now. you can see "meet the press" at 10:30 right after "news4 today." and new this morning a rhode island beach back open after an explosion sent a woman to the hospital. that happened near narragansett, rhode island, yesterday, the woman was sitting on the beach when there was a loud boom and then she was thrown against the rock wall. the authorities didn't find any kind of explosive device. they're telling other beachgoers not to worry. we want you do look a this. it's a volcano in mexico sending ash and smoke into the air. it's also closed the airport in the area. the volcano of fire is forcing people from their homes. the latest activities started thursday. two inches of inch so far has

75 in toms brick, virginia, this morning. hourly temperatures here, climbing into the upper 80s. downtown locations might touch 90 degrees but most of the suburbs are under mid and high level clouds but not rain makers. 88 in baltimore. about 90 in washington and fredericksburg. about 88 for a high today in culpepper. future weather carries the clouds into the area here later this morning and into the early afternoon hours. there may be a few showers late today. this is 8:00 on our future weather here. maybe a few showers just as the sun goes down in parts of the shenandoah valley. but by and large, not much going on anywhere too close to us. that shower chance coming from this disturbance here. falling apart as it comes farther and farther off from the east. tomorrow showers possible in the morning. out to the west of the metro
