hits home. the new twist in that tennessee shooting spree. that could spring the victims to part of our area. >> and right now, some ominous skies over the area. are you dolinge dealing are rain later today. >> and first a shocking scene. two securities targeted in the middle of the night. >> and we are following interesting developments in that area. megan mcgrath starts off. what are you learning, meghan? >> reporter: well there's been a lot of police activity at this participant complex. take a look at this video. we shot this about an hour ago.

police returning to the central gardens of apartments. this is where the two security guards were shot overnight. you can see the officers are putting three men in handcuffs. these three individuals were then taken by police from the scene. now this happened just about an hour ago not far from where the shooting happened. these men were over by the pool area just behind the building where the shooting happened. police, we should say, put out a tweet just a short time ago saying that there have been no arrests in connection with the murder of a security guard in capitol heights and they will announce any significant updates as they happen. it was 1:00 in the morning. two security guards were here doing their jobs. they were working when somebody opened fire. >> this woman lights a candle near the spot where the two security guards were shot.

she said the guards were friendly and there to protect them. >> they were kind. they just had to do their jobs. >> reporter: it was 1:00 in the morning. the security guards were on duty at the central gardens apartments when someone opened fire. one of the guards was killed and police say this was no random act of violence. >> at the time of the shooting, it appears the guards were inside their vehicle doing paperwork. >> and it appears they were targeted? >> yes, ma'am. were two cars were towed from the scene. investigators left with several bags of ed as well, includeing what looked like a bullet proof vest. regulars say the guards are armed. it's unclear if either of the victims returned fire. >> it's so sad. >> reporter: this woman didn't want her face shown but she says the guard who was killed was a

young man and a dedicated father. >> the sad thing about it, he was so young. his daughter is about two or three years old. he would talk to us. >> reporter: and police say that after the murder, a black dodge charger was seen speeding away from the scene going toward central avenue. they are asking any witnesses to come forward. police saying at this point no arrests have been made. back to you. >> also happening right now in prince george's county firefighters going through an apartment building that burned this morning in new carrollton. just off annapolis road inside the beltdway, we're waiting to here what caused the fire and whether or not anybody was hurt. >> and this just breaking now. we understand that five vehicles carrying the four marines killed in chattanooga are on their way to virginia from tennessee. we do not know exactly where

those bodies are being carried to. we understand that the suspected shooter's body is also in this caravan being accompanied by police cars. at the same time, we're learning more about two of the marines who were killed. skip wells was 21 years old and from georgia and thomas sullivan was 40 years and from massachusetts. served two tours of duty in iraq and earned a purple heart. a againman opened fire on thursday killing two marines. we are working to find out more about the other two marines who were killed. the t gunman was killed in a fire fight with police. this morning the fbi is digging into the the life of mohammad youssuf abdulazeez. they say he was not under fbi surveillance and was not on any

but it's really raw. three people have been infected so far. earlier this week barbara foods of maine recalled 1.3 million pounds of chicken over concerns. >> the trial of james holmes is heading into the sentencing phase now. jurors will decide if he gets the death penalty. a jury found him guilty on 165 counts yesterday h.. he killed 12 people and wounded dozens of others. jurors rejected the idea that he was legally insane. if a single juror disagrees with the death sentence he'll be sent to prison for life. new details about the brazen escape of a drug lord. it was 18 minutes before anybody was alerted about the escape of the man. that's according to two mexican lawmakers. we know the story by now.

he sneaked into a mile-long tunnel saturday night and now a massive man hunt is underway. mexico's interior minister says anybody who helped him will be punished. suge knight is headed back to court to argue his bail in his murder case should be reduced to $10 million. right now bail is set at $25 million million. they say it is excessive. they say it is appropriate given his failure to appear for hearings from previous cases. he has been in court for allegedly running over two men with his truck. one of the men died. knight has pleaded not guilty. police are asking nicely for you n if you scooped up any of the money that fell out of an armored truck, please return it. thousands of dollars flew out of the truck wednesday night in the baltimore harbor tunnel.

we are live in capital heights where a deadly shooting happened early this morning in this parking lot at the central gashdens apartments. two security guards were in their cars filling out paperwork around 1:00 this morning when they were fired upon. one of the guards was killed. now, investigators say this was no random act of violence. they say the security guards

things are moving forward for maryland east purple line. we have a tentative start date for the construction. "the washington post" reports the board of public works will pick a contractor by january 15th. the purple line will connect montgomery and prince george's county. if you get a call from the sheriff's office asking for money, it is a scam. the sheriff's office says it never solicits funds over the phone. if you've received a call from anyone claiming to be from the sheriff's office, they want to hear from you. they're calling it the donald trump effect. trump apparently has made a much bigger impact than expected in the race for the white house. now there is a spiraling war of words between trump and his rivals. our white house responsibility has -- correspondent has the latest for us.
