will be a weather alert day coming up in ten minutes. >> we'll get ready for it thanks. a developing story, one man dead and two others in the hospital after a tripping shooting in the district. it happened on edgewood street. they may have been playing a dice game which led to an argument. the two others were taken to the hospital. they are expected to be okay. a protest the symbol of the confederacy. naacp will hold for a ceremony asking for the removal of a bronze statue. the statue is a confederate soldier with a bronze rifle. it's protected by virginia law from removing it. naacp says it isn't an appropriate representation of loudoun's history. >> we following a fast moving wildfire that swept across a freeway in california.

it continues to burn. check out the images. look at the incredible video. it's burning up that car and moving through the tractor trailer. 20 vehicles were torched as the fire swept across the freeway near l.a. five homes destroyed. crews trying to fight the fire were delayed by drones in the area. the helicopters dropped huge amounts of fire retardant. thick, black smoke followed up i-15, the main road to get from vega to california. drivers were eventually forced to abandon their vehicles. >> get your stuff and go and we did. >> california is in the midst of a severe drought, as you know, and wildfires are very common. some break out near freeways,

but for unusual to have vehicles caught in the flame. the blaze is around 5% contained. >> if you recognize this man, you may be able to help police in d.c. the video shows the man police want to talk to about a shootout at a d.c. playground full of kids. it happened in columbia heights. a man ran through the playground and started firing at men in a nearby alley. if you have information police want to hear from you. the families of four marines killed in tennessee are planning their funerals. a solemn 700 mile trip from chattanooga to dover air force base. they passed through parts of northern virginia. the escort brought them to manassas airport before transferring them to dover. one was awarded the purple heart. >> as families mourn, the fbi is

digging deeper into the suspects past, his background. authorities found a disturbing blog post and reports his behavior changed in the fall of last year. dan has the latest on the investigation into abdulzeez. >> reporter: an fbi team continues to scour the home where 24-year-old gunman abdulzeez lived with his family. nothing is found that links him to isis, the fbi is investigating the shootings as an act of terrorism. >> we are conducting a thorough investigation to determine whether he acted alone and we'll exhaust all efforts in determining why or how it happened. >> reporter: a final post three days before the shooting. the post says this life is short and bitter. the opportunity to submit to allah may pass you by. authorities found a visit to the

middle east entering jordan. he carried u.s. and jordanian passports. when he returned to the states he had a beard and went to church services regularly. >> something happened in the last couple years. you can usually get a creepy vibe off someone. he didn't offer that vibe. >> reporter: chattanooga remembers the victims. a church service brought together people of all faiths. >> our brothers and sisters and we stand united together as one. >> reporter: chattanooga and the country are in mourning for four u.s. marines killed on u.s. soil. >> chattanooga city police officer hurt in that shooting. dennis is a 17 year veteran of the force. he was shot in the ankle and pulled to safety by fellow officers. his family released a statement

saying he's in good spirits and thanked the community for their thoughts and prayers. a doubleheader against the los angeles dodgers. the game had to be suspended because of lighting issues. the second game will begin at 4:05 or 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. last night's game was suspended after a bank of lights went out for the third time. it came after two delays. one nearly an hour and a half long and fans as you can imagine not happy. >> i think they should give us our money back. people paid a lot of money to come to the game. for this to happen is you know, just not acceptable. >> tickets from friday night's game are not valid for either game today. if you have a ticket you can change it for another game later this season. >> fans have more ways to stay cool this weekend as the mercury continues to rise. cooling stations will be set up

new this morning four people are recovering after a plane crash in southeast alaska. one person killed in the crash yesterday. rain and poor weather conditions hampered rescue efforts. the four survivors were taken to the hospital. they are expected to be okay. the plane was operated by wings of alaska. no word, yet, on what caused the crash. >> large wedge. >> take a look at that. columns touching down from one tornado. you can see the flash. that twister cut across power lines.

this is outside monmouth illinois. from the east, a path of destruction. two ef-2 twisters went through with winds of 125 miles per hour. at least 55 homes damaged. 15 of them, a total loss. powerful storms, no one was hurt. this morning, a texas state trooper on administrative leave for violating traffic stop procedures. one led to a woman hanging herself in a cell. the officer who pulled over and arrested sandra bland violated the policy. she was found dead inside her cell earlier this week. jail officials say she hanged herself. family members and friend haves a different story. they said bland would never hurt herself. the texas rangers and fbi investigating. maryland state police say terrence died from asphyxia in

this morning, friends of a security guard shot on the job are trying to help his mom pay for the funeral. they set up a gofundme page. someone shot him in capital heights yesterday morning. another guard was also shot. the guards were targeted, but haven't said much more about a possible motive. >> a massive pile of dirt is blamed for the collapse of a parking garage at the watergate hotel. they say the weight of all the dirt on top of the garage exceeded what it's designed to support. a construction company and land

caping company have been cited for piling up the dirt. two people were hurt and several cars crushed when it collapsed in may. cvs pharmacy's site is shut down because of a possible breach. they use an outside vendor to collect information. cvs wants customers to check their credit card statements. no word on how many may have been impacted. pluto has social media buzzing. scientists discovered vast frozen plains and next to pluto, they look like frozen mud cracks in the earth. they span a couple hundred miles and located in the bright area of pluto. the team says the planet is young, only 100 million years old. >> so young there. here is why angie loves

in today's top story a deadly night in the district. two men shot after 1:00 this morning. it happened on 13th place southeast and the second on ridge street in northwest. the policeidentify suspects in both shootings. a wildfire that swept across a freeway in california continue to burn. drivers abandoned their vehicles on i-15 near los angeles yesterday. 20 vehicles and 15 homes destroyed so far. today, the nationals will play a doubleheader. last night's game had to be suspended. they will take the field at 2:05 to resume the game.

"rolling stones" wants the suit thrown out. three of the six baltimore police officers charged in the death of freddie gray said they gave statements under duress. they gave statements in fear of losing their jobs. two thought they were being

interviewed as witnesses, not suspects. another wasn't advised of the miranda rights. she was asked to return several days later for a second statement. on that occasion, she was read her rights. they are key evidence in the case. a statue of a confederate soldier removed. they want the 102-year-old statue taken from the lawn. the council is scheduled to hold a hearing on monday to discuss the proposed removal. the first african-american to serve on the montgomery council and be elected. the deadly attack in choot chattanooga could make a change. defense secretary, ash carter wants a report by the end of the week to see what steps can be taken to ensure safety at recruiting and reserve offices.

minidam. i'm thankful that the kid who jumped in to get me, we didn't know each other. he jumped in to get me. we are still friends now. >> the helicopter helped rescue the exhausted swimmers. they po troll this park with the mission of stopping a rescue before it becomes necessary. they know the vast majority of drownings are between 18 and 25 and think it won't happen to them. >> they get out of the water when they see us. unfortunately, we give them warnings, then go back in. >> reporter: they patrol in an atv. if you are wearing a swimsuit, they will probably talk to you. >> you didn't come to swim did you? >> oh no. >> reporter: they are making more warning contacts than ever. park visitors are still getting in the river. >> in 2014 there were 130 search and rescue missions.
