we are tracking the heat. nats fans you will feel the heat. they will play a doubleheader against the l.a. dodgers. last night's game had to be suspended because of the lighten issues. derrick ward is joining me live there with his umbrella. you know, derrick, as people head to the park they are going to bend the rules for those willing to brave the heat. >> reporter: they are. they are going to make it easier for you to stay hydrated. it's not electricity they have to deal with today it is the heat. the lights went out yesterday. that caused them to cancel the game against the l.a. dodgers. they are going to finish up today. they are going to pick up at 2:00 this afternoon. if you are coming down for that game, you will be allowed to bring unopened water bottles into the stadium. that's something they don't normally do. they want to make sure you stay hydrated. also, there will be cooling stations throughout the stadium look for the misting fans. look for the crowds.

northwest. it happened before 2:00 this morning. someone shot and killed a man there. police working to identify a suspect in that shooting as well. one man dead, two others in the hospital after a triple shooting in the district. this happened around 9:00 p.m. in northeast. the men may have been playing a dice game that led to an argument. they were taken to the hospital and expected to be okay. we expect to hear about a rally protesting the confederacy. at 10:30, the naacp will ask for the removal of a bronze statue in downtown leesburg. it's of confederate soldiers protected by a virginia law that prohibits local authorities from removing it si an established war memorial. the naacp says it's not an appropriate representation of the civil war history. in south carolina, the ku klux klan will rally today. the group will protest on the

steps of the capitol to protest the removal of the confederate flag. the kkk is the largest klan in the u.s. they have received more than 6,000 membership applications in the past two weeks. a big story we are following. 20 vehicles burned after a swift moving fire goes across the highway in california. this is along interstate 15, the main route to get from southern california to las vegas. tony shin has the latest. >> reporter: the cars actually caught on fire. it looked like a scene from a hollywood movie. for drivers on interstate 15, it was all too real. >> i saw the flames, grabbed my water and bag. >> reporter: igor was sitting in his truck, in the middle of the fire storm. all he could do is leave his burning truck behind and run for

his life. >> i'm out of work and i lost my truck. >> reporter: other drivers followed. they ran to safety and watched their vehicles burn as the wind fans the flames across interstate 15. one by one, more and more caught on fire, including a big rig carrying cars. chp officers tried to control the chaos. >> it was too chaotic. there have to be certain safety measures in place. >> 1,000 gallons of water. >> reporter: they dropped water on the burning big rigs and cars hoping to stop the devastation. >> it spread quick. >> my husband said get your stuff and go and we did. >> reporter: some drivers were lucky. his family left behind their suv and came back to find it melted but drivable. >> the car was parked on the outside edge when the fire hit it. >> able to turn around, drive up the divider 200 or 300 yards.

military center in chattanooga, tennessee. randall smith died. more on him in a moment. turning to the investigation, the fbi is uncovering new information on the suspected shooter in that deadly military center attack in tennessee. authorities found a disturbing blog post and reports his behavior changed in the fall of last year. dan has the latest on the investigation into abdulzeez. >> reporter: an fbi team continues to scour the home where the 24-year-old gunman, abdulzeez lived with his family. nothing found has to do with isis, but they are looking at it as an act of terrorism. >> we are conducting a thorough investigation to determine if he acted alone and we'll exhaust all efforts into why that happened. >> reporter: they found a blog

>> dan mentioned the four marines there. as we have been telling you, a fifth service member died this morning following the deadly shootings. the u.s. navy confirming a petty officer passed away a year ago. he was a lodgistic coordinator in the city. 26-year-old randall smith was critically injured in thursday's shooting. we know he spent several hours in surgery. there was hope and prayers, unfortunately, he passed away. as for the other victims we want to tell you about them. david wyatt 37 years ode served in iraq and afghanistan, earned several awards. he survived by his wife and two children. skip well 21 years old a georgia native. he enlisted in the marines to follow in his moms fool steps. thomas sullivan two tours of duty in iraq and awarded the

this morning, friends of a security guard shot on the job are trying to help his mom pay for the funeral. his friend set up a gofundme page for him. you can find a link on our nbc washington app. someone shot him in capital heights. it happened yesterday morning. another guard was shot. the guards were targeted, but haven't said much about a possible motive. the district will come together to honor the life of nelson mandela. the em baa say wants you to volunteer for 67 minutes a minute for each year of his service. it starts at 9:00 this morning. >> this story is getting a lot of attention online. a stuffed toy may have saved the life of a toddler in florida.
