meteorologist lauren ricketts breaked down the start of a heat wave. >> it will be a warm one out there. not only was it warm today but lucky for us we had showers and thunderstorms early this morning. but once we head into the rest of the workweek -- or weekend into the next week oh, boy we'll see things heat up. and here is the current temperatures out there. 87 is our temperature here in washington. 91 in frederick. 90 in leesberg. what constitutes a heat wave here in d.c., three consecutive days above 90. d.c. not so much, but if you are headed out to dinner partly cloudy, hot and humid a passing shower but this is what we are worried about tomorrow. excessive heat. and we have a heat vise in place. we'll let you know how hot it will get coming up. >> cooling centers are opening up. you can go to the reefs center and libraries and community

centers and senior centers in fairfax, montgomery and prince george's county. and we have a list of cooler centers and six things you need to know about this heat wave. an early morning knock on the door and it is the police telling you your car has been torched. that happened to several people today after a string of car fires police say were deliberately set. darcy spencer is live in centerville talking to one person whose truck is absolutely charred. my goodness that is something else. >> reporter: it certainly is. we're live along heart forest drive and you look along this street, just the devastation. can you imagine getting that wake-up call early this morning that your vehicle has been torched. we'll hear from the opener of this -- the owner of this pickup truck in a moment. he said police came to his door at 4:00 this morning and this is his girlfriends car parked right in front of him. that car was torched as well.

fairfax county police say the fire -- the arsons happened around 4:00 this morning. seven vehicles in all were torched in neighborhoods within about a mile a mile and a half from one another, on four different streets. that is heart forest drive laurel rock rock forest drive and rockland drive and let's hear from the owner of the truck. >> i was woke ebb up at -- woken up at about 4:00 in the morning learning that my vehicle was involved in a fire. >> what did you think when you came out and saw this. >> the first thing i saw i thought it was vandalism but it was shocking in this neighborhood. it is a pretty good neighborhood. >> it looks like a teenage type of prank but it is severe. i've been here 11 years so this is not something that makes me happy at all. >> reporter: now, the owner of the pickup truck told me that authorities last night believes someone used an excel rant like

gasoline to set the fires on the different streets. they are not sure if the same people are involved. there is an active investigation. if you have information you are asked to call fairfax county police or the fire marshal's office. back to you. >> darcy spencer, thank you very much. a fifth member of the military, a sailer has died in the wake of the terrorist attack on a military center. he is randall smith, an ohio native. the bodies of the four marines that died previously in chattanooga arrived in dover, delaware, yesterday. from there they will move from where their families want them buried. it has been a hard time for authorities to get answers to questions about the young terrorists who attacked the military center. his father is from jordan and the gunman held two passports. one morn one jordan and that is making it hard to track his move and find out what his moves to the middle east really meant. a call for help after shots are fired in northwest d.c. late

last night and now police are offering a $25000 reward to help catch a killer. gunshots could be heard along 13 blg street and riggs road. police got there at 2:00 and find charles douglas suffering from a gunshot. they rushed him to the hospital but he didn't make it. he lived in district heights. police have little to go on and are in need of help from the public. a man from edgewood maryland, has been arrested for setting fire to a number of trash dumpsters over the past weekend. no serious damage was reported. but allen curtis stewart has been charged with six counts of arson and six counts of malicious burning. hartford county sheriffs said surveillance video helped them catch stewart. a new twist on twinkies. but sinking your teeth into the sweet treat will cost a pretty penny. after a lights out performance by the nats last night one of the best players

he's a war hero because he was captured. i like people that weren't captured, okay. i hate to tell you. he's a war hero because he was captured. >> that is the latest comment from donald trump being criticized. he's referring to john mccain who was shot down over north vietnam and spent five years as a p.o.w., failing to realize that he flied combat missions and awarded a bronze star before he was captured. and he attacked his performance at the naval academy. >> he graduated last in his class at annapolis. nobody knows that. he graduated last in his class in annapolis and he was upset. for what? for telling the truth. >> virtually every republican criticized trump for his comments as did many veteran groups. trump did not serve in vietnam.

monday. that means that the heat will be out there. not necessarily talking about severe weather but the severity of the heat that is coming at us. and we do have storms possible here and there into this week as well. 87 is our current temperature right now in d.c. it is 88 in manassas. 90 in leesberg. so there are the 90s i was talking about. so some areas already at 90. and right now, the 6:00 hour radar dry here in the area. showers and thunderstorms through central shenandoah valley but that is about it. so right now, outside of the studios here, 87 degrees. but it is warm up to about 11:00 tonight and even overnight. temperatures only falling into the 70s. and this is where we'll top out tomorrow, at 97 is where we are here in d.c. 96 in manassas. 97 in lees being -- leesberg and near 99 and i bet we'll have 100 degree temperatures tomorrow. with the heat and humidity combined here is what it will

feel like. by 8:15 it will feel like the upper 80s. near 11:30 it will feel near 100 and by 110 into the afternoon. and even tomorrow night feeling warm. so it will be a warm day. and same deal on monday. not much relief. maybe a few isolated showers and storms tomorrow afternoon to cool us off and that is about it otherwise dealing with the heat. we do have a heat advisory east of the blue ridge mountains and that is going for much of tomorrow. i want to mention extreme heat. drink plenty of water. dress in light and loose colored clothes and avoid strenuous activity and spend time indoors. and definitely in the air-conditioning if you have it. or maybe try to get to the pool. we have your seven-day coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks lauryn. kevin bacon and his brother michael gave a surprise pop-up show at the girard children's community garden. they played a short set.

boy, some excitement last night for the nats and today it is like a game and a half. >> longest game of the weekend at nationals park. it took longer than expected but they started the second half of the season with a victory. last night delayed because of a faulty circuit breaker according to the team.
