time to time. she watched, she took notes, she heard it all. today, new autopsy results. a detective at superior court says savava savopoulos and the family's housekeeper, vera figueroa, were murdered by strangulation. they were two of the four victims in this horrific quadruple murder at this mansion in woodley park. also killed savava savopoulos' wife, amy, stabbed to death and their 10-year-old son, phillip, burned to death. there is evidence they were tied and possibly tortured. police say the weapons include a baseball bat samurai swords and an unthen sharp object. charged in the case, darren wint. police say his dna was found on a peas of uneaten pizza at the murder scene. today they say wint's dna was also found on the scene of this burning porsche car, stolen from the mansion on the day of the

going to be made so avotedid the area, if i can. an 18-year-old man in fairfax county facing charges after an incident with a 13-year-old boy in a locked room. he was in the changing room when he was approached by the 81-year-old, arrest and charged with indecent exposure. this incident happened on cavalier landing court in fairfax. we just learned the name of a man killed in a motorcycle crash in gatorsburg. he was riding his motor bike on south bound frederick road saturday night when, according to investigators, he hit a suv that was making a u-turn. the three people in the suv were not hurt. police want to hear from anyone who may have seen this accident. gunfire on a local road sends one man to the hospital and now, police are looking for the shooters and they want to know why the two cars were traveling on route 50 south of landover road early this morning.

tracee wilkins as soon as live in college park with an update on this. >> reporter: police are trying to figure out exactly why this shootout happened. they talked to a few of the people who were in that vehicle, finding out where they were and what happened before they got on the road and it's not making sense, not yet. just after 4 this morning, a man suffering from gunshot wounds shows up at doctor's hospital in lanham. >> they drove to doctors community hospital and dropped off an injured party. >> reporter: according to maryland state police, the man whose name has not been released was riding in the back seat of a jaguar route 50 heading from d.c. 202 in landover when -- >> described as a black or dark blue honda accord drove past them and fired several shots into the vehicle. >> reporter: police say there were three men in the car but only one was shot in the leg and treated for non-life threatening injuries. why the shooting happened is still unclear. police are in the process of trying to interview everyone who was in the victim's vehicle. >> still trying to finds everyone who was in the car, cause they dropped the passenger

on news4 tonight brand-new details about an explosion at a government lab. learned chemical used to make meth were found at that blast site. this happened saturday amount campus of the national institute of standards and technology in gaithersburg. news4's jackie bensen there live with exclusive details for us. jackie? >> reporter: odd behavior, keywords here. sources tell news4 after police and firefighters arrived here after 7:30 that indicated an alarm and explosion at building 236, they observed odd behavior by one of the members of the institute's police force, a lieutenant who had recently acted as acting chief of that police force. now, sources tell us he was seen

throwing something into the trash and putting a duffel bag in his car and was trying to leave the scene. now the sources say that that officer appeared to have been burped on his hands and arms and had to be convinced to be transported to a local hospital. inside lab, according to investigators, investigators found the blast shield blown a considerable distance, possibly as far as 25 feet. we are told by those sources that the investigators also found sudafed drain tablets drain opener and other chemicals and a recipe to make met -- met amphetamine. we are still investigating and this could be a chemical reaction due to the manufacturing of drugs. >> reporter: at this time no arrests have been made. the lieutenant did resign over the weekend. at 6:00, we will tell you what

avenue. tonight's meeting is from 6:30 to 8:30 at centerville and another meeting wednesday night in manassas park. you can hop aboard and ride met trees newest metro's newest cars on the orange line. the 7,000 cars made their debut on the blue line in april. the cars have electronic signs, padded seats but no carpet. they also have closed-circuit cameras for added security. one of the eight people killed when a train going eight miles per hour derailed outside of philadelphia's family has filed a lawsuit. the train engineer, brandon bostian, was reckless in operating that train the lawsuit claims. it claims amtrak knowingly and intentionally failed to equip both the train and tracks with a safety device that could have prevented the crash and did that to save money.

had cloud cover, not much, seeing a lot of sun, 95, heat index over 100. 101, current heat index inside. the heat index is the temperature and the relative humidity combined to give us that index. that's how we get the heat index, pretty much what the -- what your body feels the actual temperature is. so 88 degrees currently in gaithersburg the temperature, 91, leesburg, 91, manassas, 94 hunting town. a very warm day, heat advisory extends until 8:00 tonight for all of the areas highlighted but even back toward lovetsville frederick county, still hot and very humid tonight, the heat advisory at 8:00. tomorrow, no heat advisory but still going to be rather warm. storm team4 radar not showing any storms out there now, that is going to be the case as we move on through the rest of the night tonight. we are watching one system back to the west and then another system well back to the north and west, around the chicagoland area. this is a cold front man do we wish this was a cold front that's really going to bring in some changes. it will bring changes starting on wednesday, tomorrow, bring us showers and storms.

here at the live desk following breaking news a major commuter line in our area, the service has been suspended with no word on when it's going to reopen. chopper4 now live above the scene in forest glenn where you can see a train a commuter train, a marc commuter train has collided with a vehicle there you can see first responders on the scene now as well as some of the engineers. now this happened at the crossing on forest glenn road

and seminary road that's in forest glenn. this happened just in the last 30 minutes. now, we were told there were passengers on board that marc commuter train but at first report there are no injuries to them, although they are checking out the engineer. also, train traffic stopped. the driver of that vehicle was reportedly not injured as well. right now, investigators on the scene trying to figure out how this happened. the crash did occur at a grade crossing. we can tell you that news4's shomari stone is just arriving it the scene right now. he is going to be updating this story live on the ground in the next half an hour. for now, live at the live desk, i'm chris lawrence. >> thank you, chris. seems like smoke and fire issues have become a daily issue for metro. now the transit agency tells us it has taken an important step to improve your safety. >> for the first time a uniformed fire official is now sitting inside metro's control center. our transportation reporter

filled about flowers, american flags and balloons. the world's largest defense contractor is landing the company that makes black hawk helicopters. lockheed martin is spending $9 billion to acquire sikorsky aircraft. lockheed martin is based in bethesda. it plans to add the company to its mission systems and training unit. financial analyst says this acquisition cements lockheed martin's dominance as a weaponsmaker. in fiscal year 2014, the company received more than $22 billion in u.s. defense department contracts. we now have new information on a deadly midair collision between an f-16 fighter jet and a cessna airplane. the pilot of the air force fighter jet was warped about a -- about traffic ahead moments before impact. that crash happened above charleston, south carolina, earlier this month, you recall. the ntsb released its preliminary reports saying the f-16 couldn't maneuver in time to miss the smaller plane. the father and son aboard the

last week an i-team investigation reveals dozens of army parents filed formal complaints about the fee assistance program, claiming backlogs red tape late payments from the feds. >> after seeing scott macfarlane's report, a member of the senate education committee is launching his own review.

over the weekend. our jackie bensen is there now with our report. jackie? >> reporter: jim, sources tell news4 that the police officer told investigators he was burned trying to fill his by cane lighter. sources tell news4 that shortly after firefighters and police arrived at building 236 for an alarm this and i cated fire and explosion, they observed some odd behavior by one of the members of the institute's police force, a lieutenant who had recently served as the acting chief. sources tell us he was seen throwing something in the trash and putting a duffel bag in his car and trying to leave the scene. those sources say the officer appeared to have been burned on his hands and arms and was convinced to be transported to a local hospital. inside lab, according to sources, investigators found the blast shield blown a considerable distance. those sources say
