seeing if there are any delays. a suspected murderer who raised a lot of eyebrows after a judge set him free is now back in jail this morning. what police say he did that landed him back behind bars. but first a line of storms as it pushes toward the d.c. area this morning. storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein with more on that and the heat relief you'll notice outside today. tom? >> yeah, a closer view showing the showers pulling out of west virginia and coming into the shenandoah valley around 8 clo:00 this morning. and maybe around noontime a few sprinkles coming through. eastern shore getting a few showers where route 50 down to 301. those showers are passing off to the east. don't have any thunder and lightning. near 80 right by the bay. oppressive humidity with us now. the feels like forecast, well it's going to be much better by the time we get into tomorrow. humidity levels drop absolutely

gorgeous weather moving in as the heat wave ends later on today. next weather and traffic on the 1s your drive time forecast at 6:11. >> thank you. 6:01. we are keeping an eye on the marc train brunswick line after a crash involving a train and a truck. chopper 4 flew over the scene last night. this is at the cross on forest glen road and trains are running on time this morning we are being told. molette green live at the kensington station with a look there. how is it going? >> reporter: aaron, good morning. a couple of minutes ago, the first few passengers boarded the train here in kensington. it was not expected to be crowded. it wasn't crowded. they got on board and went along their way into union station. we got word early that some of the brunswick line trains would be running with one conductor and to expect delays of course throughout the morning. and also, some -- one train with two fewer rail cars and people knew that they're well in tune to what's going on on this line.

the whole situation started with these delays yesterday evening during the rush hour when the maintenance truck was on the tracks and a train full of passengers more than 600 people, slammed right into it. i talked to one gentleman who just left a few moments ago. he was on -- he was a passenger who took a train after that late into the evening yesterday. here's what he had to say. >> last train out and it was almost empty. because everybody else had taken the metro. >> what time was that last train out? >> it was at 7:25. >> okay. so you were able to avoid some of the delay? >> yes. i was -- about half an hour late. >> reporter: people are coming with realistic expectations,

there might be some delays or crowded trains. they know how to avoid them and get around this as best they can. live from kensington. back to you. thank you, molette. so as molette is saying, as far as the brunswick line goes, supposed to be on time. looking good in kensington. could see some crowding because of fewer conductors this morning. right now chopper over top of the beltway. nice, light volume. pennsylvania avenue inbound dower house road, a crash there. a little bit of a slowdown inbound and outbound. inbound manassas and 95 through dale city also going 40 miles an hour. travel times in ten minutes. see you then. a broken main pipe is causing problems. it broke yesterday and the road is closed between chillum place and sheridan street and that could take four to six hours to be fixed. police need your help after a man was shot and killed.

this happened around 8:00 last night on maury avenue in oxon hill. officers responded to a call and found a man shot to death. police say it doesn't seem to be a random shooting. if you do have any information police would like to hear from you. a murder suspect released by a judge is expected to be back in a montgomery county courtroom. we brought you this story first on 4. a judge released dion sobotker last wednesday on half a million dollars unsecured bond which means he wasn't required to put up any money. sobotker never showed up to get his electronic monitoring device on thursday. well by friday, a warrant was out for his arrest. he's now back in custody. sobotker is one of three people charged in the death of 26-year-old jonathan harris during a robbery back in december. d.c. police arrested more than two dozen men in a prostitution bust in downtown d.c. police say 30 men are facing charges as part of a new prostitution enforcement operation that began last tuesday. this comes as ward 2 council

member jack evans introduced a big nicknamed honey, i lost the car. it would require police to tow a car if they have probable cause the driver may have picked up a prostitute. now, we are working to find out more about an accident that left a fairfax county boy dead. the crash happened when a car and an suv collided head on. three other people seriously hurt there and they remain in the hospital. we're learning that young boy who was riding in the car died at the scene. today, we expect the governor of a critical 2016 swing state to join the republican primary. ohio governor john kasich is expected to announce a bid in columbus. well kasich has generally good approval ratings in his state and he as a war chest waiting for him. two groups have brought in more than $10 million for him. right now, presidential candidate donald trump though still defending himself over harsh comments about senator john mccain.

trump's twitter feed is full of retweets from supporters this morning and he's leading in "the washington post"/abc poll, but the caveat, it was taken over the weekend before most of this happened. one of trump's comments about mccain picked up steam and there was a significant drop for trump after that. last night, trump went on fox news to clarify his comments. he says hes mccain and called the comments a miss understanding but he did not apologize. you may see some people carrying guns outside military recruiting centers in the future. if you look here this shows volunteers guarding recruiting centers in alabama and georgia. the military says it's increasing security at those places following last week's shootings in chattanooga, tennessee. a sailor and four marines died in those shootings. several states are now allowing -- are now moving national guard troops with guns -- they're moving to equip

them with guns. the dod is not planning any effort to arm army reservists or recruiters. today, lawmakers will ask metro officials about the deadly l'enfant plaza accident. a u.s. house committee wants to know what is being done to fix the electrical issue that led to january's smoke filled tunnel incident. yesterday, metro introduced a new uniformed fire officer who will coordinate between metro and first responders. some changes coming to redskins redskin's training camp this year. first, they'll start at 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon instead of in the morning and the parking rates are going up. the paper says there will be fewer -- fewer food vendors outside the park. and none from last year. camp begins on july 30th and ends august 16th. okay. we can't get enough of this, this video that has a lot of us talking. yes, that surfer right there, miraculously escaping harm after

new this morning -- new this morning the three-time world surfing champion who survived a shark attack is back home in australia. mick fanning arrived in sydney a few hours ago. the shark bumped him off the board during a competition on live tv over the weekend.

fanning said he cold feel some -- could feel a presence coming up behind him. >> sort of came up and went for the board. i don't know, you know, why -- whatever. my board is fine too. >> now fanning actually punched the shark a few times before he was able to get picked up by the rescue crews. fanning said he was lucky, but he's taking some time to recover from the emotional trauma of that incident. and talking a about getting into the water he said not right away, but he plans to surf the same waves and take the risks again. because that's what they do. >> he's taking a break. is there a break in the weather? >> right now some clouds and rather muggy in the metro area. showers headed for the shenandoah valley, arriving there out of west virginia around 8:00. maybe hagerstown getting a few sprinkles as well over the next hour or so. getting a few light sprinkles and a few showers centreville. on the eastern shore now east of route 50 along 404. for the morning commute we'll have dry roads most area in the

right now a massive and i mean huge wildfire is burning in croatia. we have pictures of it from this morning. it's just fire everywhere.

burning across a vineyard there in croatia. also near homes. several dozen residents have been evacuated from this area. firefighters dealing with a fire line of more than one mile long. just devouring a pine forest as well as vineyards and a popular wine growing area. croatia has had a really hot week there, aaron, with temperatures close to 104 degrees making wildfires like this more likely. unfortunately. back to you. >> kristin wright, thank you. 6:17 now the california bridge that collapsed because of heavy flooding passed an inspection. the federal highway inspection gave it an "a" rating last year. heavy rain caused a 30-foot section to collapse on sunday and his fiance said it's a miracle he is still alive.

>> [ indiscernible ]. concrete falling on top of them. because of the water going so fast and so high. >> now, that man has a shattered leg, broken ribs and a punctured liver. possibly from falling cement. his fiancee said he could go home this week. officials believe water rushing through the normally dry desert eroded the road around that bridge and caused the collapse. right now police need your help finding this missing man. he was last seen near the lowe's in woodbridge yesterday afternoon. police say he may need assistance and that is why he is listed as in danger. if you have seen roe, call prince william county police. police arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the trashing incident at a convenience store in northwest d.c. the takoma park man is charged with felony destruction of property. this happened at 77 market

convenience store right at the corner of georgia avenue and irving street in northwest. in the coming weeks we could learn more about what happened when freddie gray died in police custody. a judge ruled that evidence can be shown to the public. the state's attorney wanted to prevent it from being released. gray died of a severe spinal injury while in a police van back in april. six police officers are now facing charges for his death. and today, police in texas will release dash cam video from the arrest of a woman who died in jail. that comes as we get our first look at the moments police discovered sandra bland's body. police say she hanged herself in her jail cell last week. bland's family doesn't believe her death was a suicide. jail officials say no one entered or left her jail cell in the 90 minutes before her body was found. she was allegedly combative during a traffic stop. more evidence in the case of the quadruple murder in

northwest d.c. the suspect daron wint had a preliminary hearing yesterday. police say he killed three members of the savopoulos family and housekeeper back in may. at that hearing, a police detective testified wint's dna was on a construction vest in savopoulos' car. that car had been stolen and set on fire. the detective also said investigators recovered three-quarters of a $40,000 ransom in this case. today, a woman killed in san francisco is -- her father is expected to testify on capitol hill. kathryn steinle was shot and killed while walkingen a pier earlier this month. the suspect came back to the u.s. after being deported five times and the victim's father will testify before the senate judiciary committee at 10:00 this morning. the committee is looking into immigration enforcement. virginia governor terry mcauliffe may be willing to change the name of jefferson davis highway route 1 through much of virginia. that highway runs through parts

of northern virginia into prince william and spotsylvania county. it is named for the confederacy's first president and only president for that matter. several have signed online petitions asking for name change calling davis a racist. mcauliffe has indicated he would sign a bill changing the name if it crossed his desk. a new study shows the number of children living in poverty in the u.s. is on the rise. according to a new report by the casey foundation, 22% of children in the u.s. were living below the poverty line in 2013. that's up from the 18% recorded in 2008. one in four children around 18 million kids lived in low income families in 2013. data for the study was taken from several federal agencies. poverty experts say the rate may be slightly lower now that unemployment rate has dropped. a seattle ceo who set a $70,000 minimum wage for all

employees is being sued by his brother. we first told you about dan price back in may and lucas price is accusing his brother of violating his rights as a minority shareholder in gravity payments as well as breaching duties and contracts. lucas price' attorney said it's in response to a series of events over years. not just the announcement. looking at 6:22 right now. and still a steamy start to our tuesday. but looks like relief is on the way. >> tom kierein is here to explain it all for us. >> one more day with steamy humidity but thankfully, not as hot today as it has been the last couple of days. storm team 4 radar shows showers pulling out of west virginia and getting closer to the shenandoah valley. right along i-81 from harrison burg to luray. some showers, no thunder and lightning with that. hour by hour new timing just coming in, new model showing maybe a few sprinkles north and

west of the metro area by noontime. most of the region a lot of clouds around. maybe a little sun. after that, maybe some thundershowers start to get closer to the metro area by around 2:00 p.m. mainly south of washington between 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. from the beltway to fredericksburg and then south of there, northern neck lower part of southern maryland around 5:00 or 6:00 they roll on through. very low risk of tornadoes or hail. maybe a little higher risk of high winds or heavy rain that may cause brief ponding of water when the thundershowers come through. but for most they will not be severe. right now in the muggy 70s to near 80 degrees. then after 2:00 once the rain comes through it will cool things down. and then after that overnight tonight by this time tomorrow morning noticeably less humid and more comfortable. lower humidity in place with highs in the 80s and sunshine wednesday, thursday friday wonderful summer days coming up. we'll keep that going on

california. the police department there tweeting out we felt it lots of calls coming in from nervous and scared residents. so far, good news, no reports of injuries or damage. 2.7 aftershock felt as well in the same area near fremont. we'll watch it, angie. hopefully no more activity. spacex believes they know what caused a space capsule to explode. it blew up an disintegrated right there at cape canaveral last month. spacex said it happened because a two-foot steel bar broke. the company says ground testing on the equipment did not measure up to what happen in the flight. multiple launch problems has suspended space launches here in the u.s. we are learning about a new lawsuit being filed against amtrak for that deadly train derailment back in may. it was filed by the wife of abid gilani. the lawsuit says that the

engineer was reckless and that amtrak failed to equip both the train and the tracks with the safety device that could have prevented the derailment. we reached out the amtrak but it had no comment on the lawsuit. well there's a troubling new study about how the amount of television you watch could affect whether you develop dementia. this is according to the alzheimer's association. researchers found that people who watch more than four hours of tv a day have lower scores on cognitive tests in middle age. researchers say this shows that early and mid adulthood activity is critical for your brain later on. a push to protect you from predatory towing. the steps in the day ahead that could put an end to the practice in montgomery county. and those extreme temperatures we have been dealing with are sure to take a toll on the energy bill. how pepco helping you save some money and you might notice a difference outside today as we get a break from the extreme

it's a huge issue for many folks in this county. now, many folks have been complaining about predatory towing where spotters are actually watching drivers for the opportunity to swoop in and tow their car away. council member roger berliner introduced the bill that will crack down on what many are calling an unfair practice. the bill would make spotting illegal and tow companies would need photo evidence of those who broke parking rules. the law also calls for a single regulated fee for those whose cars are towed away. now, that council meeting is set to kick off at 9:30 this morning. angie, we are expecting a vote to come shortly thereafter. >> thanks for the update. also in montgomery county today the council has a hearing about liquor stores and incentives started after a news4 i-team investigation. our reporters discovered problems at county owned liquor stores and now they want private stores to sell craft beer. you can let the council know what you think tonight at 7:30 at the council headquarters.

happening today, this man will be sentenced for trying to rape an employee at a mr. smoothie in rockville. yera basnueva was convicted of attempted rape and assault. he tried to sexually assault an employee in the middle of the day at the mr. smoothie back in 2013. well, he also punched the victim in the face. the victim fought back and was able to run out of the store. take a look at your tv screen here. d.c. police need your help finding this man. they say he sexually assaulted a woman in the district. this is him caught by surveillance camera as the attack happened in an alley on 19th street north east near bening road yesterday morning. a federal police lieutenant resigned following the explosion at a government lab in maryland. that's what sources are telling news4. it was a story you saw first on news4. it happened at the national institute of standards and technology in gaithersburg on saturday. sources say firefighters and police saw the lieutenant throw something in the trash and then put a duffel bag in his car.

when investigators noticed he had burns on his hands they say that he said they came from filling a butane lighter. that explosion halved chemicals used to make meth. virginia governor terry mcauliffe is taking steps that could reinstate -- >> could reinstate parole in the commonwealth. republican lawmakers are upset about this. they say the current criminal justice system works by keeping violent criminals behind bars. it's been 20 years since virginia abolished parole and it will make the initial recommendations by november 2. a new gunshot in arlington will not be opening after push back from locals. a former marine planned to open the shop in the cherrydale neighborhood. there's a new sign outside the shop where nova firearms wanted to open. it's off lee highway, and some customers threatened to stop shopping at the other businesses

if the gun shop opened. neighbors of the proposed shop say there are several schools nearby and parents were worried about a gun store being so close to the kids. new this morning, we have the result of a new poll about what you think of cuba. the a.p. and jfk interviewed many people and they believed the u.s. should have diplomatic relations with cuba. 58% said they approved of how the president handled the relationship with cuba this years. americans were split on the cuban embargo, however. 48% of people said it should end or be decreased. 47% said it should increase or stay where it is. it's a busy day ahead for president obama. he'll be heading to pittsburgh this morning to speak at the veterans of foreign wars 116th convention. he signed a bill to allow all honorably discharged veterans to get an i.d. card. and then he'll head for an appearance on "the jon stewart

money by helping them prevent a major outage. the power company wants maryland customers to conserve energy today between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. now, if you manage to cut down on your power use, you could get a credit on your next bill. well, this next story is a parent's worst nightmare. you step out of the car and before you can turn around, your kids -- your children are locked inside. that is what happened to one woman near philadelphia. take a look at this. temperatures already in the mid 90s yesterday. she called 911. police came, you saw them break that window and now opening up the door of the passenger side. both kids were rushed into the air conditioned patrol car. fortunately nobody was hurt. but you know this happens more than you think. >> yeah. >> by accident. >> right. >> and with animals as well. and it's just important to realize even when it's not dangerously hot out there, it could be -- or if it doesn't -- if it feels cool outside it could be dangerously hot inside the car as well. something to be mindful of.

is telling trump to go. the des moines register said he is not only unfit to hold office, but unfit to stand on the same stage as his republican opponents. yet, trump is leading in the most recent poll. he's at 24% in the latest "washington post"/abc news poll. but a big caveat here. that poll was taken over the weekend. once trump's comments about mccain picked up steam, there was a significant drop in support. last night, trump went on fox news to clarify again his comments. he said he respects john mccain and called the comments a misunderstanding. he did not apologize though. a boy pointed what looked like a rifle at fbi agents investigating last week's shooting in chattanooga. investigators say they found a possible connection to be the shooter in the apartment complex in tennessee. when agencies got there, they say is a 15-year-old boy pointed an apparent rifle at them. it turned out to be an air gun.

a sailor and four marines died in those shootings. now, the military is making changes to step up security in response. they are posting armed volunteers outside the centers. you can see the volunteers guarding centers. this is in georgia and alabama. several states are moving to equip national guard troops with guns. the department of defense says it is not planning to arm army reservists or recruiters. well, you may have a hard time developing your family's summer vacation photos. several stores took down the online photo services after a suspected breach. last week cvs disabled the photo portion of the website after realizing customer credit card information had been potentially compromised. cvs photo.com uses an outside vendor to collect payment information. now, costco and sam's club will use the same vendor and are taking down the photo services. well, we probably know someone who uses amazon's popular prime service. now, a new e tailor is promising

l'enfant plaza accident. they want to know what is being done to fix the electrical issue that led to the smoke filled tunnel incident. yesterday, metro introduced a new uniformed officer who will coordinate issues. and we are learning more about a fairfax county accident that left a young boy dead. the crash happened when a car and an suv collided head on. there are other people who were seriously hurt. they remain in the hospital. we are learning that the young boy who was riding in the car did die -- died at the scene. d.c. police arrested more than two dozen men in a prostitution bust in downtown d.c. 30 men are facing charges as part of the new prostitution enforcement operation that started last tuesday. this comes as jack evans introduced a bill last week nicknamed honey i lost the car. it would require police to tow a car if officers have probable cause that thor may have picked up a prostitute.
