near 92 degrees. we'll talk about your sunday rain chances in a few minutes. >> thank you, chuck. 6:01 right now. a man died following a shooting in the district. this is not far from alabama avenue southeast in the fort stanton neighborhood. we brought it to you as breaking news last night at 11:00. her rushing to the hospital. the coast guard searching for two men who disappeared while swimming off the life station in calvert county maryland. they vanished around 7:30. chopper 4 was up above. you can see them there shining lights on the water. calvert county fire and police helping out with the search. they are going to be back out there this morning. many people are now mourning

the lives lost in the movie heater shooting in louisiana. last night, students at the university of louisiana in la fayette had a candle light vigil. several people from the community came together to show respect and solidarity. >> they are trying to find out why he opened fire. >> he planned to escape, but then killed himself as officers responded. jay gray reports. >> reporter: panic after shocked ring out at a movie theater. >> chaos everywhere cops and sirens. >> reporter: a day after, there's an erie silence here. police and federal agents continue their investigation inside the grand theater. a scene so grisly, it rattled police officers. >> it was a horrific scene. to see the blood on the floor, to actually smell it.

today sandra blands family will hold her funeral. a prosecutor says the medical examiner ruled her death suicide by hanging. the 28-year-old was found dead in her jail cell last week. the family maintains she would not have taken her own life.

the autopsy found no defensive wounds or sign of a struggle. her death and arrest are under investigation. she was pulled over in a routine stop that turned bad. january bailly accused of yelling racial slurs. they thought they saw a knife. he was carrying scissors when arrest arrested. a man charged in a deadly stabbing at a metro train will go under an evaluation. he's charged with killing 24-year-old kevin sutherland on july 4th. there's new video that shows the suspect before and after the crime. >> reporter: prosecutors say this just released video shows metro murder suspect jasper

spires. he was wearing a red bandana carrying a nike backpack, running through the station after stabbing a man to death on a train. at one point he stops and turns around. that's when investigators testify, he believes he ran to a trash can and dumped knife used to kill kevin sutherland. that knife was taken from the can with his dna. spires brought items and keep going. earlier in the series of videos played in court the investigator points out he put on a pair of gloves as he got to the top of the escalator before the crime and again, before the killing, it shows fires at the card machine, looking for victims to rob pretenting to get a fare card and following a

others. closures on the beltway in prince george's county. part of the road on the beltway will be shut down one lane at a time until noon after three lanes can be closed at any one time until 5:00 monday morning. melissa mollet is looking at another traffic back up. >> i'm melissa mollet with your first 4 traffic in the glenmont area. this is georgia avenue at randolph road. one lane going to be open in each direction friday night until 5:00 a.m. monday morning is when it will wrap up. drivers will be able to turn at georgia and randolph. 15 minute closures there with crews on scene. pedestrians will be able to get through tharks is good. take the alternate connecticut avenue is going to be your best friend when dealing with it. expect delays when you decide to

highs. plan on it being hot. not terribly humidity, yet. a rain chance as well. we'll detail that coming up. >> thank you chuck. police looking into a shooting in alexandria. it happened outside the fields of oldtown apartment complex on north quaker lane. it's not far from tc williams high school. the victim is expected to be okay. several men with guns are guarding military recruiting centers. they are standing outside centers in spotsylvania county. it's in response to the chattanooga shootings. the gunman turned the gun on himself. the shooting at the la fayette movie theater, many wondering, how did this happen again. we have more on how this is sadly becoming the new normal.

>> reporter: in someone asks about the movie theater shooting, the response could be which one. right now, a colorado jury is deliberating whether james holmes should face the death penalty after this massacre three years ago. it's deja vu for the parents of jessica. >> at what point are we saturated or become numb? >> there are mass murders every week now. come on, let's do something. >> reporter: across america, dozens of mass shootings since the newtown massacre in 2012, at a church, a school a military recruiting center. president obama told the bbc, the failure to pass tougher gun safety laws has been the greatest frustration of his presidency. >> if you look at the number of americans killed since 9/11, it's less than 100. if you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it's in the tens of thousands. >> reporter: a few polls show

more americans support gun rights than gun control. the louisiana killer, john houser not only had a gun, but history of mental illness. the family tryied to get him treated for bipolar committing him in a hospital as a danger to himself and others. that was a temporary solution. >> you have individuals who aren't getting the treatment they need. you have individuals fall through the system, fall through the cracks. >> reporter: now, john houser joins a lineup of mass shooters with mental illness that wasn't treated. this morning an australia man says he was forced by isis to work as a nurse made his first court appearance. he landed in sydney last night. the arrest is related to his alleged involvement in a conflict in syria. isis forced him to work as a medic. bob mcdonal wants the entire

court of appeals to hear his case. a three-judge panel upheld the decision. mcdonald's lawyers say they did not outline the difference between briberies. they found him and his wife guilty for political favors in exchange for $165,000 for gifts. montgomery county is going to change things up. you can apply for a job, even if you never went to college. the department usually requires folks to have 60 hours of college credits. for today only, they are relaxing that requirement. if you spend time on the police force, apply through the website. if you missed today's window you have to wait until october for another chance. a northern virginia couple face child neglect charges after finding drugs in their son's system. the specific thing all parents can do to make sure their kids

the parents of a 4-year-old virginia boy charged with child neglect. on july 16th parents rushed him to stafford hospital after he was after seizures. they found drugs in his bloodstream. he had opiates and marijuana in his system. both parents have been arrested. we spoke to a doctor who spoke of the dangers of drugs legal

and illegal in the house when it comes to small children. the biggest precaution you can take, lock them in your cabinet. >> it's one thing to have them in a cabinet to open. you need a locked case in an arena that we live in where opiate addiction is at an all-time historic high. >> the doctor goes on to say you should lock up your medications, even as your children continue to grow up. the risk becomes as teens them selling those medications. a black college in atlanta is cutting ties with bill cosby. the move comes after the release of the deposition that reveals cosby admitted he obtained drugs to get to women. they donated $20 million to the school back in 1988. more sun and heat today.

he was not legally drunk. his blood however was drawn 40 minutes after the crash. forensic analysts say it may have been above the limit at the time of the accident. toxicologists are working to determine if he had drugs in his system. four women died in the crash. in news 4 your health, a maryland man diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. the only hope was an experimental treatment. it helps the body fight the cancer without toxic chemotherapy drugs. >> reporter: robert suffered from a lingering cough for weeks. the doctors thought it wauz cold. when it didn't go away the scans showed something frightening. inoperable lung cancer. >> robert would not be expected to survive more than a year or two. >> doctors said there was one option left, but it was experimental.

a treatment calls immunotherapy. >> it's our future. it's more powerful than chemotherapy. >> reporter: they say patients undergoing immunotherapy get drug treatments specific to their needs. it's so the body destroys the cancer on its own. >> we can have responses much more durable with minimal side effects. >> it's different from chemotherapy which works by giving patients toxic drug that is destroy the cancer cells and do other damage, too. that's why chemotherapy patients experience nausea vomiting hair loss and fatigue. at the infusion center, nurses greet him warmly. they like to call him the king.

he likes to sit at the end of the hallway and watch over everyone. they give him that crown to wear during treatment. >> every time i came up here. >> reporter: he says it happened very quickly, soon after he started the treatment the scan showed his tumor starting to shrink. you can see it in the two images. one at the time of diagnosis, the other three months later. the tumor is gone. >> i got to a point where they said, i don't think it's there. >> reporter: no one know what is the future holds for robert but there's a good chance he's cured. that's because his immune system should have the ability to fight the cancer if it comes back. since this is so new, doctors don't know what will happen. in the meantime he continues getting immunotherapy infusions once a month. >> a happy camper. definitely a happy camper. we have to hope it don't ever come back. >> doreen gentzler news 4.

i guess i never really gave much thought to the acidity in any foods. never thought about the coffee i was drinking having acids. it never dawned on me that it could hurt your teeth. my dentist has told me your enamel is wearing away, and that sounded really scary to me and i was like well can you fix it can you paint it back on and he explained that it was not something that grows back, it's kind of a one-time shot and you have to care for it. he told me to use pronamel. it's gonna help protect the enamel in your teeth. it allows me to continue to drink my coffee and to eat healthier and it was a real easy switch to make.
