your what to wear forecast is coming up. >> thank you, tom. right now your morning commute in bethesda could be impacted by this scene here. a water main ruptured on bradley boulevard. and the road is closed. news4's zachary kiesch is live now with why crews have to work so slowly to repair this break. good morning. >> reporter: eun, i have some -- good morning i have some new information here. the most alarming part of this they still don't know exactly what it will take to fix it. they don't know if it's one or two sections. this pipe runs right through the intersection here of bradley boulevard and huntington parkway. they say there's six to eight inches of water that needs pumped out. the pump is working as hard as it can, but there's a lot of water in the hole they need to get out of there so they can get to this water main break and find out exactly what the problem is. we know it's about a 60-year-old

plus water main break. that pipe down there. there are a number of residents in the community that are being affected, about 25 without water. the other real important thing to note here is i have asked when can we expect this to be fixed? they said it's still too premature to say if this is going to be done by the evening commute which means it could cause headaches on the front end and on the back end. melissa, back to you in the studio. >> thank you, zachary. so as far as getting around this mess, again, going to be pretty nasty. we have to deal with this throughout the entire day. bradley boulevard at huntington parkway. you can do wilson or old georgetown. just avoid this section. you have to work your way through the neighborhoods. 95 northbound at 630 stafford still slow here. two different crashes with that left lane blocked this morning. rest of 95 looking typical. big look at the beltway coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you, melissa. it's 6:02.

today the woman accused of helping two inmates escape in upstate new york is expected to plead guilty in court. police say that joyce mitchell hid hacksaw blades in meat. she backed out at the last moment and one of the inmates was killed, another captured. mitchell faces up to seven years in prison. also today, we expect new calls for witnesses to help solve a murder in montgomery county. 60-year-old bradley colmes was beaten outside his montgomery village townhouse on june 12th. he died in the hospital five days later. this afternoon the montgomery county police director of major crimes and his family will again press people to come forward if they know anything. that's a reward for information. right now the police are searching for a driver in leesburg who hit a pedestrian and kept driving. police say a man was crossing plaza street northeast when a pickup truck hit him. this happened during rush hour

on monday night. the man was flown to inova fairfax. police have released the picture of the man they believe hit the man. witnesses say there was also a child riding in that truck. today the montgomery county council votes on a plan to slash more than $50 million from the budget. the police body camera program, school staffing and library hours are all on the chopping block. montgomery county executive ike leggett said less tax money and a supreme court decision caused the deficit. this morning, the county's rules could be rewritten for alcohol. the council is urged to allow private businesses to sell certain kinds of beer and wine. right now, alcohol is only sold at county owned liquor stores. the proposal would allow private stores to sell special order beer and wine. montgomery county would then tax those stores. coming up on 6:05.

metro says the silver spring transit center needs more money and work. this comes one day after bus drivers began training inside that facility. "the washington post" reporting metro says some of the recent repairs are showing signs of degradation. it is asking montgomery county for $15 million to cover future upkeep and repairs. they're accused of holding it hostage and the three level commuter hub is three years behind schedule and $50 million overbudget. a former nih employee is facing charges. francesco daniele is accused of going shopping with her government credit card last year. the maryland state's attorney office says she used the card to buy more than $21,000 of electronics, food and clothes. she could face 20 years in prison if convicted. >> we made very clear in march what our time frame was associated with this, and we made clear that we were not going to have this report until some time around the beginning of august. and nobody ever said that was a problem until about a week ago.

>> boston is out of the running to be the host city for the 2024 olympic games. the mayor says he wouldn't commit to taxpayers footing the bill for the olympic cost overruns. and the governor was reluctant too. with boston out that means d.c. could be back in the bidding to become a host city. the original plan for hosting the games included using venues in d.c., maryland and virginia. you remember this video campaign that was used a few months back to talk about d.c. -- this region hosting the olympics. ward 2 council member here jack evans said it wouldn't be a burden. the u.s. olympic committee has less than two months to submit a bid for the 2024 summer olympics. los angeles could be chosen as a backup city. it's video of the old mall that's gone viral. coming up, how this drone footage could end up playing a

it is 6:10. a developing story in california right now. several wildfires are burning across the state. a man is suspected of starting a grass fire north of sacramento. another wildfire is threatening 450 structures near fresno. camp grounds near the sierra national forest were evacuated as a precaution. that fire is only 20% contained.

camera surveillance video captured him tossing food to a handcuffed suspect at the county jail. the suspect had to eat the food off the floor. the police chief said she was disappointed by what she saw in the video. internal affairs now investigating. it's 6:15 right now. a special committee of attorneys will assist the texas d.a. investigating sandra bland's death. this comes as the toxicology reports reveal that bland may have used marijuana while in custody. bland died in a texas jail three days after she was pulled over for a traffic violation. texas officials say that she committed suicide. her family has asked for a private autopsy. the officer who first pulled her over has been suspended for violating protocol. a developing story in california right now. police in santa cruz believe they found the body of an 8-year-old missing girl. the detectives believe madison middleton's body was found last night inside a dumpster. middleton vanished sunday afternoon.

police arrested a 15-year-old neighbor as part of their homicide investigation. new video this morning. a man police say opened fire in a lafayette movie theater. you can see john houser checking into a motel in louisiana. police say this video was recorded less than two weeks before he shot and injured 11 people. two people died in the shooting. he shot and killed himself. we are learning that he was denied a concealed weapons permit in alabama in 2006 because of a domestic violence complaint. a fire that broke out inside a prince george's county home appears to be arson. you can see some pretty intense flames here coming from the second floor of this house. this is on sunday on walters place in district heights. we are told that home is actually vacant and listed as bank owned. people in the area told firefighters they have seen people coming in and out of that house. the st. mary's county office said it captured and arrested alan rangel yesterday. he is charged with shooting and

killing cody lacey at a house party in mechanicsville on saturday. over weekend deputies arrested his alleged accomplices burks-jeffrey and braithwaite. today the dispute over the lake land mall is going to court. lord & taylor is suing the mall's owners who want to redevelop that property. the trial starts today. lord & taylor claims that it suffered damages because all the other stores in the mall closed. the owners say they plan to use the video of the mall's empty interior as part of their case. religious groups now responding to the boy scouts decision to let gay adults serve as leaders. the mormon church found it deeply troubling. the national catholic committee on scouting voiced some concerns. boy scouts will still allow church sponsored units to reject gay leaders for religious reasons. a developing story right now. turkey's energy ministry says that this explosion on a natural

gas pipeline between iran and turkey shut down the flow of gas. the minister is blaming kurdish rebels for yesterday's explosion. this comes about a week after turkey launched raids against kurdish rebels bases in northern iraq. we are hearing new reports out of iran this morning about "the washington post" reports on who has been jailed there for more than a year. an iranian news agency is quoting jason rezaian's lawyer who said her client should be freed. this is from the semi-official news agency. rezaian is accused of spying, his lawyer says she expects him to be acquitted. u.s. officials and human rights groups have criticized his trial. today an important announcement will come out of the smithsonian. the museum has not said exactly what that announcement is except it involves the founders of the jamestown colony. the museum of natural history will host it at 11:30.

we expect new ma'ams from pluto from nasa today -- new photos from pluto from nasa today. so far it's only received 5% of the pictures from the new horizons spacecraft. it won't have everything until the fall of 2016. an oklahoma mother says her two sons are in the hospital right now after suffering severe sun burns while at day care. we want to warn you this video is tough to watch. 7-year-old connor and 5-year-old tray both have second and third degree burns covering their bodies. the boys were sun burned friday while at a water park with their day care at the time. oklahoma was under a heat warning as a heat index approached 110 degrees. the day care workers let the boys play outside almost the entire day without any sunscreen. the day-care center is now closed while police investigate. terrible situation. >> yeah. we are moving into a heat wave starting today.

6:21 now. >> we're going to need the sunscreen too. storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein is telling us what to expect. dangerous heat? >> yeah, you think it's not as bad as when we have a blue sky but with the hazy sky you can get a quick burn. that sun is climbing in a murky sky. it is hot pink and coming up as it rises, we have temperatures rising as well. in the low to mid 70s. but jumping to near 80. and then by late in the afternoon ought to be reaching the low 90s. that's going to be around 3:00 or 4:00. after that might get an isolated thundershower. a small chance not nearly as numerous as we had yesterday. and here's the hour by hour timing on that. things should be all settled, hazy sunshine through noontime. then the areas in green might get a few isolated showers on the eastern shore. a thunderstorm may get going in the panhandle of west virginia around 2:00. then around 3:00 or 4:00 a few

parking lot with a ribbon cutting on atlantic boulevard and dulles center boulevard. when the project is completed it will bring 300 new parking spaces to the park and ride and now there are a hundred spaces that are completed. if you own an android phone, you should know about a new virus that could compromise your phone. the security firm says that the flaw could critically expose 95% of android devices. the stage fright bug lets people send a video to an android phone via a multimedia message. you don't have to open it to have your phone corrupted. google said it's developed a patch for it. the second biggest shopping event of the year is shaping up to be not much of an event at all. a new study from deloitte says parents spend on spending $434 on back to school items, that's 20% less than last year. deloitte says nearly half of the parents plan on reusing last year's items.

baltimore police officer shot a man during a traffic stop. we're told that it happened when police got a call about reports of a gun -- of gun fire. they came out patrolling the area, pulled over a car and then we're told the driver of that car pinned the officer against his patrol car and that is when the officer fired. that suspect then we're told tried to still get away after he was shot in the face. and then he gave himself up and warned police officers that he had a weapon. that suspect we're told is likely to recover. the officer fortunately just has minor injuries. police right now looking for another man who got out of that car and ran. aaron? >> all right, thank you. 6:32. d.c. police are investigating a murder that happened near police headquarters. investigators say two people pulled out knives and attacked a man at fourth and "e" streets northwest.

this is wednesday afternoon. they took off down "e" street. police have not released a motive for the stabbing. also in the district, a man died after being shot near nationals park. police found him inside a home on first street north best. officers are still searching for the shooter. we now know the name of man who stabbed a couple at a korean church. song su kim confessed to the attack and according to court documents he wanted to retaliate against koreans. it happened two days ago at the anna prayer mountain church. we talked to one man who attended there for decades. >> this kind of thing, this is the very first time in the past 35 years. so it really a tragedy you know? >> the deputies say 63-year-old chung hwan park died in the attack. his wife was hurt trying to save him. she's in the congress right now. congress up against hard

deadline and trapped in a stalemate. this is all about the transportation bill. it will affect everything from your commute to your safety on the road. every time you pump gas, you pay an 18 cent federal gas tax, but now that's not enough to maintain roads, bridges and construction projects. those projects will be on hold if congress can't make a deal on this bill by friday. the house wants to pass an extension. senators want a more permanent fix. now to the developing story in florida. search crews are racing against the clock to find two teenagers lost at sea. the two 14-year-olds disappeared during a fishing trip on friday. the navy has joined the search for austin stephanos and perry cohen. on sunday crews found their cap sided boat 170 miles from where they started. the coast guard has searched more than 28,000 nautical miles for the teens. perry cohen's mother says she feels helpless waiting on word. >> it's terrifying to know that your child is out there without you and that if they need help

that you can't reach out your hand and give them the help that they need. >> one theory is that the boys may be caught in the gulf stream that's sweeping them north up the coast. calvert county investigators believe they found the body of a man who went missing while swimming. daniel brown's body was recovered a few days ago and we're now waiting on the ed medical examiner to confirm. when you register to vote you have to check if you're a u.s. citizen and whether you're a felon. if you don't, your voter registration will be turned down. the proposed changes aim to simplify the registration process. you will still have to answer the questions but only by signing the application next to the correct statement. only on news4 this morning a new police station in prince george's county will sit empty as there is no money to staff it.

the district 7 station in ft. washington is a month from colleagues. the prince george's county doesn't have the money to hire new staff. we're learning that the $14 million building will sit empty until next september. county executive baker blames the county council for the delay because they didn't pass his budget. starting next year students applying to george washington university won't have to include s.a.t. scores in the application. standardized test scores will no longer be mandatory. school officials say students' high school records and gpa are better indicators of performance than s.a.t. or a.c.t. scores. hundreds of colleges have made testing optional in recent years. and coming up in just a couple of minutes here we'll talk about some metro delays we have this morning and then a problem in bethesda. you'll want to hear this one coming up. criticism for mike huckabee of some controversial comments about president obama. what he said referring to the president's deal with iran. and a close call with a

why crews have to work so slowly. >> reporter: the bottom line here is stay away. if bradley boulevard is part of your morning commute you don't want anything to do with this. there's not a whole lot they can do until they pump the water out of the hole behind me. there's two big ones. one, there's a gas line down there which allowed this to be kind of a slow and tedious process. and the other thing is the water is draining to the low point down here. that is just kind of making this a headache for all the folks here. you can see the water being pumped out. they have been here all night long. couple details we do have is that there are customers in this area being affected. about 25 we know that this is in the old pipe that needs to be replaced. but with edon't know exactly -- we don't know the extent of how long this will take because they haven't gotten to it yet. that's the main thing here. they could actually have to expand this hole and determine whether it's one section or two sections. they also don't know when this is going to open back up, so plan accordingly for your morning and evening commute. back to you in the studio. >> zachary kiesch, thank you. secretary of state john

kerry returns to the hill for another grilling over the nuclear agreement with iran. the deal gives economic relief to iran if the country meets restrictions that ensure the nuclear program is peaceful. kerry isn't the only one pressing lawmakers today. members of a pro israel lobby is sending hundreds of its members to convince lawmakers to disapprove o and we'll soon hear directly from mike huckabee who was outraged about this deal with iran. huckabee is on the defense after saying the deal will march the israeli people quote to the door of the oven. he made those comments in a saturday interview and the outcry was nearly instant. president obama yesterday called the comments quote sad. and the president suggested that they're using this language to steal spotlight back from donald trump. very soon, huckabee will speak

on monday night. the man was flown to the inova hospital. now, police have released this picture of the truck that they believe hit the man. you see it right here. it's a chevy silverado with temporary virginia tags. g 85514. now witnesses say there was also a child riding in that truck. police need your help finding the man who they believe sexually assaulted a woman in arlington county. police tell us the woman was forced into some bushes by a man while she was walking home saturday night. this happened on clarendon boulevard. that woman fought off the attacker and escaped without being hurt. if you have any information police would like the hear from you.

associated with this and we made pretty clear that we were not going to have this report until some time around the beginning of august. and nobody ever said that was a problem until about a week ago. >> boston is out of the running to be the host city for the 2024 olympic games. boston's mayor says he wouldn't commit the taxpayers to foot the bill for olympics costs overruns. governor baker said he was reluctant to make a commitment before looking over a consultant's bill due out next month. with boston out that means d.c. could be back in the bidding to become a host city. you might remember this ad from 2014. the original plan included using venues in d.c., maryland and virginia. ward 2 council member jack evans said it wouldn't be a burden on the district's finances but not everyone agrees. >> we're talking about our schools and infrastructure and everything. pick that first. then the olympics. >> other cities have not done
